This is an excellent Lego subject – one of London’s best views, Trafalgar Square looking towards the National Gallery. I like looking at these large Lego models, but I haven’t the patience to actually complete them, so I passed this over to my wife instead. All I will say personally is that it’s a lot of work – 1,190 pieces, see attached photo.“This is amazing. I had Lego when I was a child many moons ago, and I loved the little sets you could buy - letters and numbers, lights that you could put into houses and the small boxes of roof tiles and building bricks. My children had sets too, more sophisticated than min; they had vehicles and flowers for the garden, road layouts and traffic signals, but this set beats them all hands down. My grandchildren have even better sets. which proves that Lego moves with the times and brings out more and more intricate and absorbing products all the time.My husband recently gave me the Big Bang living room to build. That took me a few weeks to complete, because I had forgotten just how much fun it is to build Lego into actual objects. This set is another level.I have not finished it yet. I have a long way to go, but I am deliberately taking it slowly as I am having so much fun with it. The instruction booklet is simple and many pages long. It gives you detailed diagrams on what order to build the component parts and which bricks to put together for each of them - for example the two buses and the two black cabs, as you need to build even these. You get all the bricks you need in the box, and in each are bags with numbers on them to help you to construct in the correct order.I will buy another set when I’ve finished this one. They are not cheap, but if you think of the hours of fun they give they are worth it.I like the architecture theme, which I have not seen before, and it is one way to see the world from your dining room table. a really good idea.Well worth the outlay for the many hours fun you will have with it.”[Despite the intricate detail, the finished model is very compact - 12 cm high x 24 cm wide x 20 cm deep.]

I used to walk through Trafalgar Square nearly every day as a London tour guide and I was astonished with the detail they've managed to squeeze into this scaled down version. Memories came flooding back as I pictured a miniscule me walking around the square. There are some really neat building techniques, no stickers whatsoever and the final product is very visually pleasing. My only gripe is that the paintings inside the National Gallery appear to be random printed tiles from other sets, including a control panel from the Star Wars line and a bright unicorn. This was a little disappointing as the Gallery is not famed for its stock of modern /pop art and I would have loved to have seen tiny versions of JMW Turner's Fighting Temeraires or Vincent van Gogh's Sunflowers instead. However this is a minor thing and once you've built the model you won't be looking inside the gallery that often anyway. Overall I'm very pleased with the build and it sits proudly on my desk where I can reminisce about the years I spent in London as often as I like.

The Lego designers have done an excellent job representing Trafalgar Square and the National Gallery at such a small size. I particularly liked the tree build and fountains. I liked the hidden galleries behind the building but thought the printed tiles used for the art where a bit childish in design but full marks for having no dreaded stickers. There are some nice techniques used to create the stairs and only gets a little repetitive trying to line up all the one by one plates. My only real complaint is with one particular part 6167602 (minifigs neck bracket). About a 1/3 of the 24 parts supplied had a different thickness to the rest. The thicker ones had the markings 23-03 and the thinner ones had the markings (c)2002 Lego. As these had been used to create ledges it does make the building look a bit inconsistent and a little distracting.

This set not only looks great—it's so much fun to build! It uses several building techniques I've never seen before (such as in the stairs), and the attention to detail is amazing. The information in the instruction booklet is interesting, and I like how it gives you fun facts about the part you're building while you're building it (e.g. facts about the buses on the page showing you how to assemble the buses). The only 2 nitpicks I have for this set are: 1) The brown telescope pieces used as tree trunks don't show up well on the black background in the instructions, and 2) Attaching the 1x1 round plates to the 2x2 round plates when building the trees is difficult and hurts your fingers. Those are my ONLY two quibbles, however. I cannot recommend this set highly enough!

Firstly it's great fun to assemble; the instructions are clear and being Lego all the parts fit together as you would expect them to. It's smaller than I expected, I guess living and working close to the real thing I had an unrealistic expectation of scale. This wasn't helped by what I assumed was a standard mini-figure for Nelson, but what turns out to be a scaled down mini-mini-figure.I particularly liked the underground rooms in the National Gallery, I am fond of these hidden details and appreciate them. What I didn't like was the poor scaling of things. I realise this is Lego, but if you compare the size of lamposts compared to NT columns, or buses, or even Nelson, it's all over the place.Hence four stars.

I loved making this Lego Trafalgar Square but it was over too quickly. I enjoyed the techniques employed to build the whole structure from the base, to the steps, to the structure of the National Art Gallery. For the price it would have been nice to have had something other than Lego dots pieces to display in the gallery but the fact there is art in there at all is a nice touch. Nelson’s column looked good, the lions were a bit dodgy but suffice. I think I assumed it would take longer and be more of a project. I stopped myself so I could spread the build over two days. It is a very clever set and looks cool when complete, I guess I just need to get more but it’s so expensive!

With over 1100 pieces, the majority of which are at the much smaller end of the scale, this is a set that can challenge the manual dexterity of anyone but a seasoned builder or AFOL - however, do not let that put you off. Persevere and with Lego's clear & precise instructions as usual, you will create a fantastically recognisable vignette or snap shot of an iconic part of central London. As others have mentioned, there is limited scope for this and most other Architecture sets, but this doesn't matter, the set itself can be displayed with pride, both at your perseverance & skill as well as at the skill of the designer & Lego itself. A gorgeous set.

Totally agree with two previous reviewers:- the artwork in the Nation Gallery is ridiculous, as one reviewer said, no Van Gogh/Turner etc but instead a ‘cat with a party hat’ and a unicorn. - the lions, their heads are just circlesThe artwork is mainly hidden but the lions really annoy me, I used to climb up and sit on them as a child on trips to London. And you say in the instruction manual the sculptor based the lions on a real lion, shame Lego couldn’t do the same.Having said that, really enjoyed building it especially the National Gallery, very clever use of Lego on its side

It’s a tough ask for a set to be released on the same day as the largest architecture set of all time and not to be overlooked, from my building experience with it in happy to see familiar architecture techniques and new ones like the wonderful staircase technique, for future customers buying the set the only part of this build you may notice that the piece numbered 6167602 which is a right angled white piece seem to be different sizes to each other. I did find it strange however it didn’t effect the build. In conclusion a beautiful build I’d recommend for anyone’s collection.

Lego Trafalgar Square Building SetThis is a wonderful set.It is lego so you know it is going to be brilliant anywayLooks very much like Trafalgar Square, just a bit smallerThe lego bits are a little different to the normal lego, but work in the same wayMy only issue was the box seemed a little small when it arrived, not tiny but for £60 plus i was expecting it to be a bit bigger, but it builds to a decent sizetook me about 3 hours taking my time

I love the Lego architecture series, but some of the constructions can appear rather bland in color; however, this Trafalgar Square set is not like those. It is visually striking and vibrant! What's more, the clever use of Lego pieces to create the building and the stairwell is nothing short of genius. I'm actually suprised that this set doesn't get more love. A wonderful build at an excellent value: I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Looking at the product picture I kind of assumed this would be a rapid build. In fact there's a 1000+ parts that fill a box similar in size to a shoe box. While the subject matter is usual for a Lego kit, their attention to detail is up the usual standards and I suspect most lego die hards will be happy with this kit, although it seems a bit expensive for what is a pretty straight forward kit.

It's an amazing set I particularly love the way you make the stairs and the use of the mini-mini figures as statues I took a break from making it as the side windows of the building had hurts my fingers this made me worry about what the rest of the building experience would be like but it was enjoyable as lego could be this set isn't a regrettable purchase highly recommended.

just finished my trafalgar square which was a very good build and looks great finished. Trees were a bit tricky to get in place and get the staying there as are a tight fit. The only 'design' fault i find is that i am very dissappointed on the Lions. If you did not know that they are Lions i dont think you would be able to tell which i think is a great shame.

Lego Architecture have really upped Lego’s game. Unprecedented level of detail in this replica of Trafalgar Square in London. The National Gallery has (child-friendly) paintings on the walls inside the building!Wow. This has taken our son three days to complete - and besotted with it - and it’s taking place of honour on our bookshelf.
