SO, set it up as per instructions, but first download Google Home which leads you to Google Play Music.Get the companion app for your music server/source PC and upload your audio mp3/FLAC/WAV to Google for free. The APP is Called GOOGLE MUSIC MANAGER.Google Play is a subscription service but also gives you the ability to upload ans store up to 50 thousand tracks of any length, online/cloud for free. It does the soft sell on its subscription service like TIDAL or SPOTIFY but goes one better, it still lets you archive and use your own music and benefit from the full functionality of the Chromecast Audio when you want to.Google will 'fingerprint' your music and then let you effectively store and use the music anywhere, home or away, CHromecast or just listening via the App. It's awesome.I won't go into the functionality of the device, or the capabilities of the software across the iOS or Android plaforrms, but it works well to cast to your own amplifier via home network, without too much hassle at all.The big thing is here: It's a SONOS killer. You need to have an amplifier and speakers in each room. Go buy them at a charity shop or on this very site. Get secondhand stuff and do your homework.Time to fully exploit this hardware!Right, are you ready? Get a cheapo DAC "Digital to Audio Analog Optical Coax Coaxial Toslink RCA R/L Converter Adapter"Get a TOSLINK to Mini TOSLINK fibre optic cableThis means you get top quality audio, and the fibre means it will be clean and without interference when it goes into the amp.You next want to skip the WIFI connection and the laggy horridness and go straight to wired networking. You'll need to get a nice CAT5 ethernet cable, maybe 10M long, check where you want to put the Chromecast Audio. The Chromecast Audio supports having ethernet through its power cable, and they sell an accessory, if you can find one. If you can, get it.If you can't, you'll need an adapter to join the USB-mains power adapter into the network ethernet cable. You'll also need a USB-ethernet/CAT5 dongle. These work:eBay item number: 272287853295eBay item number: 162019978040Y-cable: eBay item number: 272287853295Plug all that badness in, you can't really go wrong, it's geeky but you'll get it if you got this far!USB power is provided from the Chromecast mains adapter, which then powers the Chromecast, the Ethernet-USB adapter and wires through that Y cable. Why?: Because, if you go into the App settings and select HiDef audio, or something like, you'll get the full 192kHz quality, without the buzz from direct wire with that yellow horrid wire, without the lag of wifi. The audio-out of the Chromecast Audio puck supports NOT ONLY 3.5mm line-level audio BUT ALSO fibre-optic light. Same hole! SAME HOLE. It's got its own DAC but if there's a buzz on the system, it gets carried over. Best avoided. This system optically decouples any sources of ground-loop interference or mains buzz to your amplifier and speakers. The five-quid cheapo DAC is superb. DOn't believe the twonks who deny it's any good. I've had two, both working.I use FLAC (from my home server) and Chromecast Audio AND CD through the same amplifier, and I can report, without doubt, that this setup really kicks the spots off any SONOS or similar system. It kills BT audio, it KILLS AptX, you can control it, you don't have to buy any more crappy subscriptions if you already have the music you like. You have the music at home or away, anywhere you have 3G/4GLTE/WIFIIt's through any Android or iOS device.Your ears will be bathed in warm honey.Read full review...

Bought 3 CC Audio's from Curry's /PC World. Not new but everyone of the units looked new inside the box. The outside of the box was slightly scuffed (Who cares they go straight in the recycling anyway).1. Plugged the first unit into an old stereo in my home office, Chromecast app (Android) found it straightaway, renamed the unit and played a test tone. Spotify app picked up the device straight away !2. 2nd unit went in a Sony portable speaker, plugged into the aux in, set up took less than 1minute, on setting the second unit I was then able to create a group for the two units from the CC app.3. 3rd unit went into my Denon AV amp - temporary connection via the analogue link (CC unit can take an optical cable so have ordered one ).Added this unit to the group I created in (2), Amazing running via Spotify which picks up the individual or groups set up via CC. Who needs to spend thousands on Sonos this works so well, the 3 units cost me 60 pounds and I am so impressed with the quality of the sound and the ability to listen to Spotify using extreme sound quality.Streaming music through the whole house - Sorted :)Read full review...

Prior to buying this gadget, if I wanted to hear Internet radio on my domestic HiFi system, I had to connect my smartphone, or tablet, via the Aux connection. With this clever and tiny device, just connect it instead to your HiFi's Aux input, plus to the mains supply via the supplied lead. Download the Chromecast App onto your smartphone. Power-up the Chromecast and then follow directions given on the App. Very straightforward. Then you can use a Chromecast-enabled Internet radio provider like DI or TuneIn radio and just press the CAST button that appears, to divert the D/A conversion to the Chromecast and hence to your HiFi. Quality is good (but see note below)and I'd say at least as good as a CD provided the station is of decent data rate. Two pieces of advice: 1) I had to reboot the Chromecast after first installing it before it would operate properly. You can reboot using the software, or just switch the main supply off and on. 2) If you're using a decent HiFi system, then make sure the Chromecast setting for High Dynamic Range is set to on. It isn't by default. At the price I paid this is a real bargain!Read full review...

Since selling my CD player years ago I've had to connect my amplifier by cable to either my laptop or phone to play music on my old-but-wonderful hi fi system. For a relatively modest outlay, this little device has changed all of that. I now stream effortlessly from my (Windows) laptop and (Samsung) phone (I don't know if Apple devices work). The sound quality is superb, easily as good as being plugged-in, no hissing, crackling etc. I didn't want a Bluetooth connection as I have read that the sound quality isn't as good. I understand that the DAC in the Chromecast is of reasonable quality but it can be bypassed if you have another DAC to use.'Casting' is easily accomplished from apps like Spotify,Tune-in radio and Youtube. Local files on your laptop and phone can be (slightly) trickier to cast. I find the easiest way is to use VLC for laptop and phone- both play flawleslyRead full review...

I bought three of these so I can play the same audio throughout the grind floor of my house. Works perfectly & easy to set up. Just use Google's 'Home' app and it guides you through. I had a wee issue at the start with stuttering audio but this was easily resolved by changing the quality of my streamed music down to suit my terrible internet connection. Just a wee note to watch out for the connections in the back of your speaker/stereo. 2 of mine required the split red/white audio cables rather than the supplied single line cable for 'aux in" so check & order the right cables at the same time so you're not stuck unable to use them when they arrive!Overall, I'd highly recommend Chromecast Audio because they are small, ready to set up, easy to use and work brilliantly with any streaming service that supports Chromecast.Read full review...

I needed a streaming dongle to stream music from my PC to hifi and judging by all the positive reviews, I opted for the Google Chromecast Audio. I also ordered a 3.5mm to Phono lead to connect into the amp. I found it a bit of a faff when using my tablet to set up the dongle as the App would just freeze - or so I thought. I left it a while (10-mins) and on my return the setup had completed. Streaming from my PC was another problem as it didn't 'see' the dongle on the network. Searching the Internet revealed it was a known problem but offered little in the way of how to overcome it. Luckily I later came across a blog who suggested using BubbleUPnP. Installing this solved the problem.I can now stream music from windows media player without any problems and the sound quality is excellent.

I am an OAP and I used it to play music etc on my old (non Bluetooth, non WiFi) amplifier and speakers. It is really great to be able to play music.etc.through my beloved amp again. The sound is first class. The item itself is very small but powerful. The cost is negligible compared to having to buy new kit and having the amp gather dust in a corner. I am disappointed that I cannot stream my Audible books but I know that is a technical issue with DRM .Other than that I really am delighted. You can teach old dogs new tricks!. I am sorry that Google have ceased producing this as many others in my situation would benefit by knowing of its existence and availability.I am delighted that I was able tobuy the Chromecast Audio from this seller. It was delivered very promptly

It allows, in one cheap, easy-to-set-up and easy to use package, any old school, 'pre-streaming' hifi to be upgraded to the 21st century in a totally painless way. Sound quality via a toslink optical cable is limited only by the quality of your DAC and downstream gear. I bought a couple to allow every sound system in my home to be controlled centrally using Roon. An excellent upgrade. One note: I had some difficultly with the first CCA I bought since the Google Home app couldn't see it. This was because - despite having great wifi coverage all over my home - I was trying to set the CCA up too far from my router. So, for set up, get close to your router. Thereafter, you can place the CCA anywhere there is wifi access and it works brilliantly.

Brilliantbkittle device for converting a Bluetooth speaker or a Hifi into a streaming system. Much better than Bluetooth as it streams directly from online, so you don't lose signal if you take your phone out of the room. Digital output means it is equally at home in any HiFi and limited only by the quality of the source and the DAC in the HiFi itself, though the built in DAC is already very good if you just want to use the 3.3mm audio jack. Chromecast ability to stream directly from source gives it an advantage over airplay and Bluetooth apt and means it is likely to be adopted as a standard. Naim have already committed to using it in their future streamers (savings you buying this dongle)

I bought three of these to provide multiroom streaming of both internet radio and a DLNA feed of my own music collection. They do these tasks fantastically well and would doubtless stream an Online music subscription service just as well, (if I wanted to pay for that). The choice of 3.5mm, RCA or optical connections gave me the flexibility to add the Chromecasts to different generations of music systems, including a 25 year old HiFi amplifier, giving it a new lease of life. I'm thinking about buying a fourth to use on my bluetooth speaker in the garden.Highly recommended.

Cheap way of revitalising an old hi-fi system or any amplified speaker with an aux in jack. Can synchronise one or more of these to produce a linked system with no lag. Ideal Sonos alternative. Great for parties and for those that like to have the same music playing in multiple rooms. Fully customisable better than Bluetooth. Make sure you get the best price as you will need one for each speaker unit that you want to link. Set up is easy using the Google app on a smartphone. Works well with Google Home or Spotify.

I wasn't expecting a great deal from the CCA at the price, but I've been impressed with its performance, both technically and in regard to the audio quality. It's a doddle to set up, you can easily cast to it from Spotify and Tidal from phone, tablet or iPad, and it sounds surprisingly good (as long as you remember to turn on the full dynamic range setting in the settings menu). It streams reliably (over wifi too) and I've not had any problems with dropouts or noise. It just works - well done Google!

We have 4 of these. One on the DAC in the lounge, one on a Bose SoundDock in the kitchen, one on a Philips Fidelio iPod dock in the study and one on a Bose Wave Radio in the bedroom. All on a group so internet radio can be streamed all over the house. Perfect, they even have a time delay adjustment so you never get the annoying echo. They reliant on a good internet connection and a robust router. I use a Ubiquiti Unifi AC Lite AP in conjunction with a Draytek wired router.Well recommended.

simple to plug in. you need a usb 'mains' supply.easy to set up using the Google Home chromecast 'app'.Simple way to enable wi-fi audio in your household.Does not add much if you already have nfc/bluetooth 'speaker bars' as the casting is already built in.However, it really comes into its own by bringing your speakers into the 'ok google' google assistant world.it's a 'no brainer' if you have a decent set of speakers or an amplifier that is not already bluetooth or wifi connected.

Product came as described. The only thing I would say is that (my fault entirely) I didn't check that I had a headphone jack input (the only cable type it comes with unless you buy the optical cable) at the back of my stereo (oldish Yamaha) so had to use phono to jack cable for this to work. Connected to my wifi and google home very easily. Sound quality is great! Awesome being able to use Google assistant with Google play music for all my music needs without having to buy a new unit.
