So, Google recently released their newest innovation – the Pixel. The Pixel is the first smartphone designed by Google in-house, unlike the Nexus range which has more designing companies than I have had smartphones in my lifetime.I will freely admit that I was uncertain whether or not I wanted to buy the Pixel when it came around to getting a new phone. Having always been an Apple user, you could say that the idea of having to use an Android phone wasn’t particularly enticing. But I’d gathered the money and the iPhone 7’s lack of a 3.5mm headphone jack gave me more than enough reason to make the big switch.I decided to go for the most basic model of the Pixel.I chose the standard 5″ size with 32GB storage in ‘Quite Black’.I was so apprehensive for its arrival. As soon as I got it I was ripping off the delivery packaging to reveal the nice Google-y box underneath. The phone came with some documents, one of those things you use to open the SIM tray, 2 charging cables (USB-C to USB-C and USB-C to USB) and a charger head. The phone itself is very nice to look at and feels great in your hand. It’s so lightweight and the beautiful blend of aluminium and glass on the back gives it a fine finish. The fingerprint sensor is also on the back and is made of a tough rubber and is slightly indented into the phone so you can find it easily. One design feature that made this phone really stand out from the iPhone 7 is the lack of a camera hump. The camera (which we will get onto later) sits flush with the back of the phone.Going round to the side of the phone you notice that the power button and the volume up/down buttons are both on the right-hand side, unlike the latest Apple and Samsung phones. However, this does not pose a problem because the power button is textured and easily distinguishable from the volume button even when you’re not looking. The SIM tray is on the opposite side and the 3.5mm headphone jack sits on the top of the phone. The bottom of the phone holds the super-fast charging port (USB-C) and the speakers and microphone.Moving to the front of the phone you will notice that there are no physical buttons. This is due to the back, home and multitask buttons being part of Android 7 Nougat and are on-screen. Whilst some people might find this annoying, it helps make the phone more water resistant. What you will see on the front, however, is the front facing camera, the speaker and what I can only assume to be the light sensor. The front of the phone hides a little secret – there’s a notification light in the speaker that will blink different colours when you get a notification. This is not enabled by default so you’ll have to turn it on by going to Settings>Notifications and clicking the gear icon in the top right corner. Then turn ‘Pulse notification light’ on and be on your merry way.Enough talking about what the phone looks like, let’s get into how it operates. When turned on for the first time you’ll be asked to sign in to your Google account and connect to wifi. All pretty normal stuff. One thing that sets this apart from other phones is the ability to port all your data over, not just from an old Android phone, but an iPhone too. If you’re porting from iPhone just make sure that your last PC backup was not encrypted, or some things like contacts won’t be imported (you can move your contacts manually later). To do this you’ll have to use the Quick Switch adapter that you’ll get in the box, but there are plenty of videos online about how to do it.Once your phone is set up you’ll notice a couple of things. The first is the colour vibrancy. The Pixel has an Organic LED screen (OLED) which produces some fantastic colour. You’ll also notice that there’s a little Google tab in the top left corner. You can remove this but I find it quite useful. The phone runs really well for games, YouTube and anything you’d really want. The 5″ screen is a massive improvement from my old iPhone 5S and I now find it far easier to get things done on the go.The last thing I want to say about the phone is its camera quality. The Pixel’s camera achieved a score of 89 from the experts at DxOMark Mobile – that’s the highest of any mobile phone they’ve ever tested! This is higher than both the iPhone 7 and the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, which scores 86 and 88 respectively. I love its camera and some of the pictures it takes are amazing! It has this really cool lens blur feature that allows for really nice close-up shots of objects. It also has a Photo Sphere option as well as the standard slow motion video and panoramic shots. The camera is great in low-light situations too. I've included an image of my microphone that I took using the Lens Blur feature. It looks great!Protecting your PixelI really like my new Pixel and I want to preserve it for as long as possible. I wanted to buy a case that would protect my phone, but would still let me appreciate it’s beauty. I decided to go for the

The main draw to me was a pure android experience and daydream. I'm pretty into VR (I have a vive, rift and gearVR) and I wanted to see how it worked with Google. Here are some positives and negatives of the Pixel phone from me:Pros:Daydream - I prefer it to GearVR as it's open to all manufacturers, where GearVR is Samsung Galaxy only and cardboard is by far an inferior experience. The pixel is 1080p so it appears more pixelated than the 1440p displays on samsung s6/s7 phones. The pixel also seems to use pentile which isn't the best for VR (lots of space between pixels, creating the screen door effect) but it's very common in VR as it makes high resolution easier.Android - I do like this version of android. The app draw is really smart, it's fast and google assistant is heavily baked inFast - This is currently the fastest android phone as far as I am aware with the Snapdragon 821.Design - It's light and feels good in the hand. Also I'm really happy that they removed the camera bump. The camera is still excellent (though OIS was sacraficed) but I'd take that happily for the flat back.Cons:Speed: Though this was in the pros, I think they should have waited until early next year for the new 10nm processors. The snapdragon 830 / new Exynos chips shouldn't be far away and they're going to be a far more significant leap than from the 820-821. I'd rather a phone that I'm going to keep for 2 or so years be at the top of the game for a while (which anything with the 830 will be for around 12 months, with the 831 being marginally better after) rather than a short time at the top.Colour options - I wish they had the 'really blue' colour in the UK. It's not to everyone's taste but I like it!If you're looking for an android phone today, this is the best... But with MWC next year it may look fairly out-of-date about 4 months from now.

I love this phone. I've had it for a few weeks now and the most amazing thing about it is the battery life. It's lasting all day and when I go to bed it still has battery to last all might. I plug it in when I wake up and by the time I leave the house it's full charge again. I think 45mins to an hour if it's running massively low but often it's not even as much time as this. This includes regular usage messaging, browsing, watching videos, using GPS and maps, WiFi etc. After extended use on Daydream View (Google's VR) the battery is normally down a little bit and the phone can get quite hot, but Daydream view is incredible. Would definitely recommend getting the headset to go with the phone if you want to get the most out of your device.Performance is fast and it's able to handle multiple tasks with ease (no freezing or stuttering, which is a blessing compared to my last phone.).The missing accessories (manual and sim card tool) are really irrelevant. All instructions can be found online and any small pin like an earing or paperclip can be used as substitutes for the tool.Read full review...

Well, for my birthday I thought I would treat myself.Having read a little about it, I took the plunge. Apparently the Pixel is Made for Google (by HTC), the way Google intended it to be.What I like after almost a week:Very fast, boot up and configuration is quick.Google Assistant is good / almost as good as Amazon Alexa. The screen resolution is super sharp.Camera front and back are as good as any other phone I have played with even in low lightThe battery seems good, easily lasting the day. What I do not like:With my old phone I could find my phone with voice activation. This does not have it.It is nice looking, but not so keen on the two tone back. (minor detail, which I can hide with a case)Some say it looks like an iPhone rip-off.The price (but I knew that when I bought it, so will not consider in my scoring).Other than that a great phone, although still too expensive.Still 4.5* / 5*

I lost my Galaxy phone last year and have been saving for a new one ever since but then my vacuum cleaner broke and before I knew it, I was facing the prospect of another six months with a very cheap basic phone when I stumbled on the Google phones. I bought a second hand one for about a third of what I had budgeted for. Obviously any secondhand phone has it's issues and this one is no different - in theory. The phone I received is 2 years old and has been used but is in amazing condition. The transfer of data from old to new phone was seamless and so thorough that it was a bit strange! I have a couple of Google Home Minis and this phone works straight away with them.I intend adding more Google gadgets in the future as this seems like a trusted company that provides a decent quality of products. As a first model, I think this makes an excellent budget Android and would recommend it.Read full review...

I have the phone for a week and so far, I cannot complain. It is a great product which was sold at a reasonable price despite being new (even though not in original packaging). The charger and cable received along with the phone was a reversible micro usb from both ends therefore, I might need to purchase an additional cable for interface with a PC.Bottom line, i am happy with the product and it is the best phone I have ever owned.Great camera quality even compared with other phones.Unlimited storage on google photos.Google assistant is very handy and user friendly.

Bought mine through Carphone warehouse black Friday sale. This phone is a bit over priced, it's just crazy priced on Amazon, resellers trying to overcharge big time.Pro'sScreen is bright and clear (should be qhd though)Call quality is superb.Feels pretty quick when flicking through apps, games etc..Camera is fantastic.Con'sIts not the best looking phone available, but it does grow on you. Some reports of loose volume rocker key rattlePrice is far to high, especially via Amazon resellers it's not like there is a shortage of them!

Awesome phone.Takes beautiful photos and videos and has unlimited storage. I'm sick of filling up my apple icloud only to be told to keep upgrading and paying more.Pair this with the google daydream and you can view your panoramic photos in virtual reality with sound recording. It's like stepping into a memory. Hard to describe unless you try it yourself. Also the phone has an awesome battery, you don't have to keep thinking about recharging all the time.

Really fancy andriod phone for me!!! 5 inch is just perfect fit me, but I am really regret that I forgot to buy a case for my phone, lol. So far no big problem from the phonw, just I can't open my Google Play while connect my own wifi at home, but data can do it, and I dont why for now. And the price is really really high purchce on Amazon. But fro me, it's the only way to get this phone, so well, I have to accept it.

A review from an iOS and iPhone user!FYI: I am not leaving iPhone. Pixel is my secondary phone now. And it is amazing. I got great value deal and I cannot Not recommend it. Feels very smooth, comes close to iPhone 7 but...not quite. OS is fine, not too bad. You can get used to it.2 downsides: lack of SD card and waterproofing.Otherwise: great performer, outstanding battery and solid camera!

I purchased this via a UK retail store over a year ago and I've to say it's still an excellent phone one year on.I have had no issues with it and the camera is excellent. Even better than the iPhone as I've been told jealously by iPhone/Apple enthusiasts.I would highly recommend this product, or the latest version of the PIXEL phone from Google.

Fantastic smart phoneBattery life a lot better than my old Nexus 5Google Assistant a quirky addition, but it's growing on me.Chose 128GB model to take advantage of Google Play music downloads for my commutes.?

I couldn't bring myself to pay around £700 for the Pixel 2, so picked this up for under £300. By far the best phone I've owned. The camera is spot on too. Very lightweight but sturdy.

20.7.2017

Fantastic phone, upgraded from the Nexus 5 which held it's own. This sets the standard for Android.Delivered quickly and received as stated, excellent condition.

15.3.2017

Compared with iPhone is fare more superior.Samsung it had a better display and a slot for SD card. All in all is a fantastic phone.
