I wanted a heat detector for the kitchen to complete my fire safety meaures for the house. I did not want to risk going for a cheap unit and, at the same time, did not want to spend a lot of money (you can pay up to £60, £70 or more for some top end detectors). This suited perfectly. It is very standard in design & easy to put up (two screws - exactly as with any other detector) runs on a standard 9V battery (some use a couple of AA's but I think the 9V power-pack is a longer lasting option). The sounder is very loud and piercing as good as the detectors in the rest in the house. It has an easy to use press to test and also a low battery warning of a single beep every 45 seconds. It comes with a battery supplied. All in all exactly what I wanted at the price I wanted.

we were advised to get one of these by our local fireman. It has been great as we had three smoke detectors but the kitchen one used to go off every time we made toast. This would result in us having jump up and pull it down to whip out the batteries. This heat detector has replaced it and, with small kids in the house, it is reassuring to know that we have this alarm in the kitchen (as opposed to a smoke alarm on the counter with the batteries lying next to it). it is more pricey than the average smoke detetcor but whe we held a candle close - it did go off so it does work but does not interupt our cooking (or burning)! It fits in the same holes we had made for the smoke detector and is the same size.It is easy to test the batteries by pressing the central button.

My smoke detector just outside my kitchen stopped working. Well in fact it was working - it was ringing ALL the time.I went onto the net to find a replacement and discovered that in/near a kitchen it shouldn't be a smoke detector but a heat alarm.I ordered this heat alarm. Heat alarms have to be fitted on the ceiling, not on a wall. There was no template, but it was easy to make one out of a bit of cardboard. It wasn't the easiest thing to fit standing on steps, holding the alarm, screw and screwdriver, but it is possible - it must be, I managed it.I thought I had got the alarm at a good price, but then a few days later I saw the same alarm on special offer in Tesco's for £9.

I tested this unit using a hairdryer and it sounded after about 30 seconds -which apparently is "ok". I had previously purchased a different brand unit and the thing would not activate by hairdryer or even directly over an open fire - so testing is a must. The First Alert has to date not activated while in the kitchen even though and within 3 meters of the gas cooker. So very happy. I have smoke detectors very close to the kitchen door (outside the kitchen in the hallway) -just in case, but this alarm does seem to function as expected and provides some peace of mind.

Battery smoke alarms are easily obtained in your average DIY store but try and find a heat alarm and you need to search the internet. This heat alarm is no substitute for a smoke alarm but is very useful in a kitchen area where smoke can cause frequent false alarms. Best to have a smoke alarm as well somewhere else in the home. Only critcism is that it would be good if the alarm had a long life battery like te 10 year smoke alarm.

Just purchased three of these heat alarms, one for the kitchen and two for the living room (yes, I'm that bad a cook...). Delivered in a couple of days, they were easy to fit and they test ok. Hopefully they will never get to be put to genuine use, but for a fiver each its peace of mind at an excellent price. I'm a member of a large "cardholders only" warehouse group and even they cant match this price. Very pleased.

Packaging good, the item arrived intact. Instructions clear but very little information provided on interconnectivity with other alarms. I had to contact the maker for clarification. Easy to install; I used the two fixtures supplied plus some high-grab adhesive. We tested the alarm afterwards. It was as loud as required. Have not yet had a fire in the kitchen so cannot say how well it works.

An excellent product by all accounts which I hope will never have to be used for real. My only complaint is that the battery expired on September 30th 2012, over a year ago as this item was delivered today (5th Oct 2013). Hence only 4 stars. It was just bad luck on my part that the price was reduced from £15.89 to £12 odd between the order date and delivery date ! Not your fault or mine!!

My wife could burn a boiled egg - seriously.Every time we have a meal we run the gauntlet of nuked offerings. The last alarm was knackered, and I don't mean broken, I mean tired out.The poor thing was on more than the TV.This new alarm should make the house quieter. Now if amazon can supply something that stops the wife cooking I'd be a happy man.

I bought this due to last one kept going of when ever I was making anything. I was not sure it would actually work so held it over a candle and was perfect. Really would recommend in the kitchen. Also comes with its own battery. Only thing is no instructions in English but does not to a mastermind to hang a fire alarm.

Received in very good condition, and easy to install. Quick delivery was appreciated. Very robust as it slipped out of my hand during install and landed on the floor, but it didn't damage it at all, hope it never has need to go off, but is more reliable than smoke detectors especially in a kitchen.

Does exactly what it says. The amount of times i have had to disable the smoke alarm everytime i cook something under the grill. Now there is no need as the device works on sudden temperature changes. I hope i will never need to test this device out in anger but it does give you the piece of mind.

Really neat and unobtrusive and so glad to have a heat detector as well as a smoke detector in my home. I had to move the smoke detector as it was driving me nuts every time I was cooking, but this is ideal for next to the kitchen door and away from the cooker.

Technically this is foremost a heat alarm that I bought for the kitchen to detect flame/heat from the cookers where a smoke alarm alone would not be so effective. So the first thing that set it off was burning toast.....still, at least I know it works.

Put it up on ceiling & forget about it, you never know when it may save your life. This alarm detects high heat temperatures as opposed to smoke, so Kitchens ideal place or garage. I'm glad I've never had to test it, but better safe than sorry.
