I've been using this for five months now, replacing the Xiaomi Yi that I'd previously used. First hurdle, having to install new firmware out of the box was a bit annoying and a somewhat irksome process - however having read numerous reviews about the battery issue with old firmware I wasn't going to try without the upgrade. The firmware fix seems to work for me at least - no issues with fully charging the device or inaccurate charge levels. I've never bothered to try connecting it to Garmins or anything, its purely a safety device for me. For that purpose it works very well - the footage is very high quality. For what it's worth, the mic only captures sound from behind you. Not an issue generally,as my front cam gets everything else - but, for instance, the Cycliq rear camera is very unlikely to capture anything verbal interaction you may have. This is a "to be aware" point rather than a criticism. So what is wrong with it? Basically a few difficult to comprehend design / UI decisions. For instance, the decision to make the only attachment mechanism a .... velcro strap? This just feels completely inappropriate. On the Brompton it's tricky to actually get the velcro strips to match up - and actually keeping the device positioned where you want it is literally a constant battle. You have to check after any bump in the road that it hasn't been jolted to face outward, or loosened enough to slide down the seatpost. This would be bad enough if a fixed mount was an add-on purchase - but it's worse than that - there isn't even fixed mount made for this thing. So yes, this light is only for you if you're either (a) not worried about losing £150-odd worth of camera/light via a velcro strap unfixing itself, or (b) happy to use the carry string to tie on to somewhere on your bike to ensure that if it does come loose it at least doesn't bounce off down the street behind you.Other minor gripes - the buttons. You need to do quite a long press on the LHS button to turn on (unecessarily long in fact ... why not just a normal press?). It also needs to be pressed quite hard and in the right part of the button. It's basically rather annoying. The positioning of the other button on the RHS would be fine except .... that holding down both together performs a factory reset. This means that you have to be really quite cautious about how you grip in order to do the hard long press to turn the device on, otherwise you could be inadvertently resetting the whole thing.Last but not least, the memory card slot. It's really tricky to access, especially without taking the light off the bike. It's right by the hinge of the rubber protective flap for the slot and the charging port, so very fiddly to manipulate a micro SD while holding the rubber flap out of the way. When you push-down release the micro sd to extract, either there is only a tiny length protruding in a quite inaccessible space that you have to somehow get hold of to extract - good luck if you have big fingers!! - or else it pings right out at high velocity. I've lost one mirco SD that way because it just pinged out, riccocheted off the luggage rack on the train and fell down a ventilation grate under the seats. Fortunately it didn't have anything important on and micro SDs are now very cheap ...So why still four stars? Well, as long as you know about these things they are largely manageable. It's also still the only decent quality combination rear light and camera that I've found, so frankly, if that's what you are looking for this is definitely the answer at the moment. It comes with a lot of bells and whistles that I imagine most users won't take advantage of, which somewhat bizarrely appear to have been prioritised both at the outset and in later iterations, over more basic usability considerations.

After 9 months of constant use, I like this product quite a bit.Context:I commute 5 days a week, for a total of of 1 hour’s riding per day, and the occasional weekend ride. I don’t try to turn my ride videos into edited Strava gloriousness so those features are irrelevant to me.Pros:- the image quality is pretty good; you’ll have to use 60 fps to capture license plates but you only need that if the car is super close anyway. I had the chance to test this when a car buzzed me at 50 mph from about a foot away, and I was able to see the license plate and report the driver for dangerous driving. There’s a wide enough angle and daytime image quality is excellent. Night-time quality is decent for the purpose. If you get hit at night, the light will be bright enough to capture the license plate- the 100 lumen light is pretty good, and you can customize both light intensity and flash modes from the app(s)- operation is very simple, and the light stays in the mode you left it on last- the light beeps when turning it on, and the number of beeps corresponds to the charge level, so it’s a great reminder to charge when low without having to check each time- I haven’t ridden this in rain but I did ride it in heavy fog/drizzle and the light worked just fine- I only have to charge this maybe once in 6 days, and I do that at work or Sunday night and it’s actually not an effort- USB-C! Thank goodness for moving to a standard that’s becoming more widespread and will be the future standard. The connector is a lot more reliable and less prone to breakage than USB micro- The mounting hardware is sufficient, and there are plenty of options for whatever kind of seat post you have- The crash detection works well to lock image footage if you go downCons:- the buttons are a bit weird, you accidentally end up pressing the photo button when turning the light on- you won’t get the 7 hour battery charge unless you’re running at 720 x 60fps; bump up the resolution or turn on image stabilization or auto-idle and you won’t get that.- The phone app doesn’t always reliably connect.. The same with plugging it in to my laptop - it doesn’t always connect, and it depends on the cable you use. But then I don’t usually need to. YMMV.- There’s no auto-start, only an auto-stop. That’s dangerous.- The alarm mode is pretty pathetic, given how poor the Bluetooth connection is. I left it just out of sight at a bar and I was nervous the whole time.Improvements I’d like to see:- Better usability with the app- Ability to view videos from the phone to read license plates and give that info to the police without having to wait until you get to a computer- A way to coordinate the Fly12 model so one only has to turn on/off one light to have both turn on and off.- A steady flash mode so drivers can better estimate distance- New bike mounts are a bit expensive: I recently had my bike stolen so I needed a replacement mount but that’s going to set me back $25- The charging port moved to the bottom so it’s more water resistant- Longer radius of Bluetooth connection, but that’s unlikely to happen until the new BT standard becomes currentI haven’t noticed any issues with battery life or mounting becoming less stable.Bottom line: for a rear camera that gives you peace of mind, this is a perfectly good product. More battery life and higher resolution would be nice, but it’s not really necessary for commuting. There’s nothing else that’s this well designed and produced, so I think it’s a good idea to support them.If what you want is a camera to capture your rides, just get a Go-Pro, but if you’re looking for some insurance defense, this is a great product.

This camera lacks WiFi or any way to browse or preview your videos directly on your phone which would be a nice feature. You can't update your firmware over the mobile app either, and there are actually 2 apps on Windows you can use, one which updates the firmware. The apps are a bit buggy still, and especially the mobile app has questionable value most of the time. They do have a feature where you pull the microSD card and sync with Strava and recode your video with data overlays which is neat.Honestly if they priced this under $120 and left out most of the half baked connectivity features I would prefer that. Otherwise if you view this as a pretty good rear safety light combined with a pretty good rear view camera it's great, and I can't find anything comparable that does that in a neat package like this. The attachments that they give you to mount the camera is very well designed and there are lots of rubber spacers for different seatposts. The camera isn't waterproof, and it just relies of little rubber gasket inserts to access the microSD/USB-C slots on top. There is also little rubber inserts for a lanyard, though they instruct you to remove a gasket to insert the lanyard and then replace the gasket, but it doesn't make any sense as you cannot get the gasket back in with the lanyard string there. I don't see the point of the lanyard really though, I guess you could attach it to the seat rails as a backup but that would be annoying an unnecessary as the turnlock attachment seems pretty secure. It should be mentioned that you cannot use a USB-C charger to charge this it won't work. You need to use a standard USB-A charger (not supplied) with a USB-A to C cable for charging. Also you cannot use a USB-C to C cable to attach to your phone. You can remove the SD card and use a standard USB otg type cable and SD card reader. I actually found a nice little one on Amazon that goes right from USB-C to uSD and had a loop for a lanyard which works well for my Pixel 2. If interested search "KYCC-4001". It is disappointing that this doesn't seem to be a fully USBC compliant product.Cycliq recommends a few select high speed SD cards but I used a couple year old Samsung EVO 64GB which seems to operate just fine. Loop recording is hard on SD cards so will monitor it and make sure it is still working well. All in this is a good product that I recommend, but the connectivity features are just too half baked to be more than a gimmick right now. To justify the price they really need a easy to use WiFi preview, maybe even a live mode, and if you want to get real fancy maybe some car detection algorithm like Varia radar? They should also release a cheaper version that's just a camera and light.

Not water tight. Received from Amazon on May 2, 2018. Pros: The image is pretty good. I can read license plates (after all, isn’t that why we buy these?) most of the time. However, as a car passes from the rear - it (hopefully) moves over. The further it moves over (which is not bad) the harder to read (and more likely to be a non issue). Cons: Right out of the box it obviously has some design issues: the rubber cover for the micro SD card and charging port does not close securely. It tends to pop up. I suspect that is why I have moisture behind the lens after getting caught in a shower the other day on a ride. Now, the road side of the image is hazy and useless to read license plates. Moreover,it is clear that after some usage, this rubber cover is going to break off. The new Fly 12 has a much better design for the same function. I suspect that a redesigned Fly 6 will have the more water-tight closure. The Cycliq App is a flimsy platform. There are some functions on the app - like disc reformatting - that do not work. Moreover, because the app acts so fragile, I am afraid to make any changes in fear of ending up with some set up that I do not like. The microphone on the rear picks up mostly the noise from my wheel. However, I suspect it would do well with that driver who lays on the horn or worse.Update: March 16,2019: in retrospect, I think I didn’t close the rubber “door” where the small card goes. If closed properly, water doesn’t get in. Cyclic replaced the water-damaged one without complaint. I do think the closing mechanism should be redesigned like the front one -the Fly 12. Overall, this is a good device and should come in handy for your heirs if that day comes.I upped my rating from 2 to 4 stars because I think I’m partly to blame for my water issue and it’s just a good product. Make the sd card closer better and don’t quit improving your app and it’s a 5.

AWESOME &. MUST HAVE. Let me start by saying having read all the reviews I was concerned that there were technical issues. Any technical issue I read about has been resolved on the latest camera as well as with the software. 10 thumbs up! I’m an avid cyclist that has been hit by a car four times. The first time I was in A near accident suffered very long list of broken and shattered bones and the most of your Trumatic brain injury you can sustain. It was so bad the trauma team directed the police to conduct a fatal accident investigation. Thankfully I survived and I am back on the bike. Since then I was hit three more times. After the third time I decided it was time to buy cameras.I bought the FLY6 (rear) and FLY12 CE (front). If you’re a cyclist YOU MUST buy them both. This last time I was rear ended, on purpose if you can believe it, by an a$$hole who wanted to make a right turn on red when I was in his lane and going straight. Before the light turned green as he was inching up and cursing at me and he decided it was time to give me a bump with his car. It was only a tap, but it turned into a bump and run. He pulled away and left the scene. Thankfully I had my FLY6. The video quality is unbelievable. Not only did it capture his license plate, but the entire incident. I turned it over to the police who investigated and pressed multiple charges for hit-and-run, tailgating, and leaving the scene of an accident. After the third accident I was hoping I would never need this because most likely if you need it it’s not going to end up well. I will never ride without both cameras. If you only want one you can only buy the FLY6 (rear), but the FLY12 CE (front) is great to have for any frontal collisions, but also because it will show the police exactly where your bicycle was located in relation to the road and travel lanes. A MUST HAVE!

I originally gave this product 2 stars for two reasons: 1) The learning curve (at least for me) is pretty steep. The units (I bought a Fly12 CE and a Fly 6CE) beep, flash, lock and turn off for reasons that are very logical, yet not readily apparent to the user. These are definitely NOT simple charge and use tools! I tried to master their use on the first day of a cycling trip on the Erie Canal. Big mistake, 2) It took me SEVERAL rides and explorations through the tech manual and their email tech support to figure them both out. I now have them working fairly well, but still have much to learn. But there is no 1-800 number to call. Only email.I've upgraded my review to 4 stars for two reasons: 1)The resolution and clarity of the videos these cameras provide is AWESOME! In addition, they have a 360 degree feature in playback that allows you to explore the image almost in a virtual reality type format. For example, when you put the playback in 360 degree mode you can literally turn the device your viewing the video on and see left, right, up and down of the original image. This is way cool!2) My second reason for upgrading my review is that the tech support they provide through email is pretty good. They respond within a day and give you feedback that is useful. The bottom line is these are great integrated camera/lights. But be warned that you don't just charge them and turn them on. Depending on your tech-spertise, you will spend anywhere from a few hours, to several weeks learning how to make them work well.

I am giving this camera a 2nd chance. First I have to say that I really like the camera quality - the pictures are great and the system is very easy to use. Compare to go-pro this is much easier and you don't have to worry about having to download your videos every time you ride, as the system will automatically over-write the old films if you are out of memory. I like the security option as I leave my bike unattended many times. I like the app and it is easy to use. Overall I was very happy with this purchase, I thought it was fair price. My problems started after 3 months of using it, during my 2nd ride in September on a rainy day. If you are going to use it in rainy days you have to be very careful and make sure the water does not enter the USB /SD card compartment. That day it I got back home and the camera stop working due to water entrance to the memory compartment. Fortunately, I contacted the company and they offered a replacement - I think their customer service is great and I have been using my new camera without problems. This time, I decided to double check that the top of the camera is tightly closed and I added extra protection to prevent water from damaging the camera. So far doing good despite the rain. I still think it was a good purchase and is one of the best cameras for cyclists that commute to work or bike every day.

Not sure what everyone else is doing but I’ve not had any issues with my Fly 6. Could the mounting mechanism be better? Yes, although I’ve purchased the pannier mount so that’s a bit of a mute point. Most garmin mounts attach using rubber bands, that might be an option on future versions. The Velcro band seems to work just fine.Would it be better if you could view and download video on the app? Possibly but this is a safety device, I’m not sure what people are wanting to do with the video and why they need immediate access to it on their phone.I’ve not had any issues with the battery so far, but I’ve only had the unit for a week so.... Having said that,I’d imagine it will suffer the same fate as all lithium ion devices and start to degrade after a year or too. A suggestion to Cycliq, make the battery user replaceable, the cost of your products is not insignificant. If not user replaceable, offer a cheap battery replacement by yourselves. The app works just fine for modifying settings although there should be a disconnect button as you have to make sure you quit the app otherwise a light remains lit on the fly6 to let you know theres an ongoing connection. All in all a good product. I’ll update this review in time if I encounter any issues as others have reported.

When I first got the device, I had a few battery problems, but I continued to use it and I'm becoming more and more happy with the device. There are a few knocks I would give it. The docs say it has a Garmin IQ software and I was very hopeful there would be. There's not :-(. However, you can control the light from your console (turn off, turn on...). The reason I think the IQ software would be useful is you can't fully control it (Sound level, light pattern, video size...). Having said all of that, it's relatively cheap for what it does and very functional. I've done a few rides over 5 hours and it did make it through the whole ride with full video. The video quality is pretty good. Net, Net,normally, when you find problems with a device, you give it fewer stars, but this device is so useful, that, even with the flaws, I think it's worthy of 5 stars. Hopefully they will fix a few of the quirks, but otherwise, I think it's a great device

Pros:1. it takes great video2. the video is broken up into easy to search chunks.Cons:It only lasts 2 -2.5 hours.Because I tend to ride longer than 2 hours, I have a backup light on my bike. I wish it lasted longer. It's finicky. You must use an SD card that is recommended. It won't work unless you do.If the light doesn't power on chances are, you are not using the right SD card.Don't use a larger card or one that is not approved. The SD cards seem to get corrupted. I have replaced the card several times. If fully charged, and you are certain you have the correct SD card and your light doesn't power on, pop the SD card out and push back in, chances are,the light will power on.I have a love/hate relationship with this light.I have used it for over 2 years, I ride 3-5 times a week and use it every ride. I don't like to ride without it (and a spare in case it is giving me a hard time. :) )It is well worth the money.

The light itself is very good - the max brightness is almost blindingly bright. You will be seen, day or night.I could not easily mount this light on the back of my 2012 Synapse. Granted, the seat-post situation does not leave a lot of real-estate to work with. I ended up having to ditch my saddle-bag (Topeak Wedge medium) in order to make it work. The daytime video is pretty good. I don't have any video from nighttime due to issues connecting it to my computer. I contacted the support team at Cycliq and the patiently walked through several possible solutions until we concluded that it was a hardware problem. The promptly sent a replacement in good faith.I love having a light and camera integrated in one unit.I don't have to have an ugly GoPro on the back.

Picture is clear, light is bright, and battery lasts long enough for my 28 mile round-trip commute. I also love that USB-C is used for charging instead of something like usb-micro. No more guessing at plug orientation and having to turn the plug 180 degrees and try again!Discounting a star because the app does not allow you to view camera footage. A recent update gives you the ability to do this if you have an SD card reader you can plug into your phone, but that's still pretty weak. I bought a lightning to SD adapter, but it's possible I could forget to put it in my bag some day. If I get hit I want to be able to give the police a license plate as soon as possible, which I hope would be sooner than I can reach a computer.

Quick FYI - There really aren't any instructions, but if you download the app, you'll be able to figure most stuff out. BUT NOTE: if it seems to be malfunctioning, like when recording stops for no apparent reason - it's not necessarily a defective unit. You may just need to update to the latest Firmware. It's easy to do, and if you google Fly 6CE Firmware Update, and the excellent instructions are online. Doing the firmware upgrade seems to have resolved my problems with my unit.As for my overall impression; I'm happy so far, but it's still pretty new to me - I need some time with it before reasonably passing judgement.

Very pleased with CE HD version which is a bit smaller than the original non CE Fly6. Only problem I haven’t yet solved is how to unlock the device from the plastic rear carrier mount for charging. Attaching the Fly6 to the mount involves a quarter turn to secure the Fly6 but this action locks in place two plastic lugs from the mount to the device with corresponding recesses. Turning in the opposite direction to remove would seem to require enough force to cause damage to the mount unless there is a special technique.

5.7.2018

No five stars because battery life (2 hrs) on blinking mode, no waterproof or water resistant, I got caught by heavy rain and it completely died, there is no warranty for water damage and Cycliq customer service and support is very bad, they never answer my emails.Yes, I bought another one, image quality is great, you can easily see the license plates in case of an accident or make videos of your rides. I’m not taking it out if there’s a chance of rain, I live in Texas we don’t have rain very often.
