Among Whisky circles this whisky gets slated, usually by whisky connoisseurs of a certain age. I myself who are 26 have been tasting and enjoying whisky for the past two years and have to say that this one is pretty consistent from bottle to bottle.Aged in ex-bourbon casks for most of the 12 year period and then half is matured for a finishing period in ex-sherry casks, it is then brought back together at 12 years of age to create this superb single malt. Before i talk about my tasting notes i want to say a little about the box which is of quality construction and looks ideal for presentation purposes but also aids in protecting the valuable bottle. The bottle is a standard size 70cl(750ml)bottle and features a cork stopper (always adds a touch of class) and a plastic but highly effective stag on the front which is the emblem of the Dalmore brand. This Whisky is bottled at 40% and has been chill-filtered. It does not state whether or not it is the natural colour or whether colourant has been added!Tasting notes based on the last bottle i purchased in July 2013 which was bottled in December 2012:NOSE Before Water: Overall quite sweet on the nose with warm spice and white pepper with a small hint of raisins. With a few drops of Water added : you get added dried fruits and eventually chocolateTASTE Neat: Strong spice, vanilla and chocolate. Taste with water: Similar to neat but less of a nip on the tongue and a hint of lemon zest comes throughFINISH: Spice and orange notes that last for a few minutes-------------------------------------Very much a pleasant and easy to drink whisky, a few drops of water are essential to truly bring the flavors and aromas out but like all whisky, taste it neat first so you have a reference point. Once a few drops of water are added leave for 15 minutes to allow it to open up. Ideally use the right kind of glass, a glencairn glass would be best but if you don't have one then a wine glass is better than nothing. You can tell the influence the bourbon cask has had and you can tell good barrels have been used in maturation. Most certainly a good whisky to introduce people to and won't over-face anyone. I do take issue with the price which is on the high side (i paid £38) but given it's something you'd only buy once in a while i can't complain too much!Very pleasant and easy to drink and offers a wide range of aromas and taste on the palate. Well crafted and good quality considering it's 12 years old! RECOMMENDED!p.s. i also have a bottle of the 15 year old and hope to review that one soon too!

I had been holding off of buying this whisky for a long, long time. Perhaps I was over hyped and expected this whisky to taste absolutely amazing or even better than the scotch that I have at home. Don't get me wrong, The Dalmore 12 year old is lovely and smooth and goes down well neat. Splash a tiny bit of water in that and you get more enhanced flavours which taste great. I do prefer it neat all the way though, but you do get some nice flavours such as dark chocolate, cherry, tiny bit of vanilla, and you can taste the sherry butts in there too which gives it a unique flavour. But I thought it would taste much much better, but I do feel like I had too much expectations and that's why I feel like this.Perhaps I need to try the 15 year old one next.I do recommend trying this whisky as it does have lovely tasting notes too it and the smokey aspect to it isn't too strong so any one, I feel like, would enjoy this if you're new to scotch. Especially single malts. Here's to The Dalmore experience, cheers!

I have only really been drinking whisky with any passion for a year now but I’ve extensively expanded my collection of different whiskies; The Dalmore 12 gift pack was one of my first purchases. The pack would make a great gift for any whisky lover, the glasses while delicate are beautiful and give an excellent experience of nosing the whisky, in the case of a Dalmore 12 you can experience a nose of Orange, Marzipan and dark chocolate with rich fruits. On the palate it’s spices like cinnamon and nutmeg more dark chocolate with notes of citrus and dark fruits. It’s almost Christmas cake which is expected for a sherried whisky; for comparison it can be compared to Glenmorangie A Midwinter Nights Dram or glenfarclas 12 year old.A thoroughly enjoyable whisky that I will always keep in my collection.

The Dalmore is a cracking single malt scotch Whiskey and one that I have been wanting to try for a while. Firstly, the whiskey and glasses came in an exceptional box which really gives it the classy feel it deserves. The taste of the whiskey is absolute perfection. Its as smooth as anything and has a perfect flavour. Wait for it and you can really feel the whiskey warm you up inside. The glasses are made extremely well and came in perfect condition. This whisky really is the nectar of the gods, to be enjoyed how Richard Paterson intended it to be, and under no circumstances should you ever consider mixing a whiskey like this.

I’m a fan of the Dalmore and the 12 is a great everyday whisky. It still has the wonderful stag’s head bottle, but the liquid lacks the subtlety and complexity of its 15 and 18 year old cousins.18 is probably one of the greatest whiskies on the planet in my view - pound for pound, a real value proposition, as good as 3-400 pound bottles. Extraordinarily rich, this seems to be what the 12 wants to be.The 12 is simpler (and cheaper) creature but easy to love, with its balance of sweet, gentle nutmeg and raisin tones and a medium body and richness.Highly drinkable and decent value.

Got this as a christmas gift for a relative. The presentation was immaculate, and they were really happy with the gift.Being a Dalmore, it's going to be a good quality single malt whiskey, so there's no point talking about that except to say "yes" it's good. The bottle looks nice, the glass looks nice and the box it comes in really shows it off as a presentation pack.I got it in a flash deal for about 20% off, which was an even better deal.

Great whiskey. Love this with just a couple of drops of water. So easy to drink and has a nice after taste. Pretty good for a 12 year old single malt in my opinion. Tried Japanese whiskies a while ago which are a lot lighter. This whiskey has depth and complexity I think. Gift box is great and the glasses make the experience so much better. My second bottle and fast becoming my favourite alcoholic drink. Now where did I put that bottle.

I bought this for my son for Christmas and he loved it so I bought a second for a good friend. My son said it was one of the best whiskies that he has tasted - and he should know!!The downside was the packing - the Christmas bottle was beautifully packed with a strong extra box filled with an air-filled sleeve. The second one had a normal Amazon box and no protection so the box inside was damaged - not good, especially for a present.

I am very pleased with this whisky, it's smooth and full of flavour, I would recommend this to anyone. I am however, disappointed in the delivery service.. The carriers took the parcel directly to a collection facility. The did not leave me any notification of delivery, as I was home when they said they had delivered the package. It took me a week to learn what had happened to it. This has never happened with any other carrier.

I really like this a lot. It does occasionally drop in price and then becomes an absolute bargain. It is full of caramel flavours and oakey aromas.Sweet, but not cloying. Think of being held in the arms by your loved one.A real winter warmer, best had at room temperature. This has made it straight into my top 5 whiskies.A bit of a hidden gem.Oh, the bottle is also a thing of beauty.I hope you found this review helpful.

This is absolutely delicious. Really. So, so good.God, I love this whisky so much.(Sometimes a bit too much, apparently, according to my neighbours.)Reality is hard though, isn't it? I mean, you know, when the futility of existence gets a bit much? In my opinion, there's nothing wrong with trying to forget it for an evening, and if you're going to do that you may as well do it in style and get a bottle of this.

this whiskey was a gift it was so nice I bought two bottles for gifts then one for myself, it has a beautiful taste which is not harsh on the throat, you should save this bottle for that special occasion, it has wonderful undertones and quite aromatic, its a nice gift set and the glasses are an added bonus. you cant help but think your a specialist drinker sniffing the whiskey and swirling it around the glass lol

Whisky is terribly perception based and from my perspective this particular whisky is very pleasant indeed.I don't enjoy whiskies that are too "oaky" and prefer a better balance in the initial and aftertaste where the whisky is full bodied and not overpowered by the cask it matured in.This whisky is definitely worth a look in that respect and is a great digestif following a good meal and does not disappoint.

Being a whisky collector, no collection is complete without at least one (or three) bottles of Dalmore. This is a lovely whisky with a complex taste that, in myhumble opinion, benefits from a splash of water to open it up. It isnt an everyday whisky for me although I simply had to have this collectors box if only just to admire it. Thankfully I do have a bottle of Valour for normal drinking too!
