I got this as a gift for the in laws as they were complaining about the taste of their water.I already have this jug and am so impressed with it I didn’t have to pick and choose I went straight for this. Our tap water tastes awful and tea and coffee are almost undrinkable. I had started to but large bottles of water, however I was aware of the amount of plastic I was using never mind the cost: I chose this make as you can buy biodegrade filters for it.Simple to set up and use, just make sure that you clean the filter by filling the jug three times and empty that water away.I fill filter and use. You do not need to let the water stand for it to remove the taste of Chlorine,it does it almost immediately.People tell me that I am not saving money as I have to buy the filters which are expensive well they are not really. Amazon make a filter that fits into this jug, and if you forget to order and go out shopping the orange shop starting with an S also sell filters for this. The filter timer on top can be reset without changing the filter. I only change mine after about three months, it is still effective at removing Chlorine for up to four months so even if you are on a budget you can really stretch these out.If you are letting the water stand and if you stand it in bright sunshine then you may have some algae form like in those pictured but just stand it to the side or put it in the fridge. If you are not changing the filter all the time then just remember to give the jug a proper clean now and again as bacteria and germs obviously build up. I have never had any discolouration of the water or any problems with this product at all and have enjoyed thousands of beautiful cuppers where all I taste is tea!

Marella XL water jug is a bigger water jug that can hold 2.4 litres of filtered water and 3.5 litres in total which should last you a day as it is recommended to drink 8 glasses a water per day. We use the water for cooking and kettles as well as for drinking, however, I wouldn't recommend using it for iron, it definitely helps to reduce limescale but for iron, I would always go for deionised or distilled water. The jug looks nice and is sturdy, however, the lid flaps feel flimsy and if hit they could easily break. The handle is sturdy and comfortable but it is positioned in such a way that if the jug is full it is hard to hold it.I have tested the throughput of the cartridges and found thatit takes approximately 6 minutes to filter one litre of water.I have found the filters to be very good at removal of chlorine from tap water which is by far my main reason why I didn't drink tap water as the taste did bother me. By bringing both filtered and unfiltered water under the light there is a visible difference in the number of particles in the water, the filtered water had none floating about (these are not dangerous). I conducted a blind test to verify if the taste of the filtered water was truly better at least to me personally and I have found that in 90 per cent of cases it did. However, from time to time the water did taste sweet to me.I used to buy bottled water which can rack up expenses and it does create unnecessary plastic waste I felt guilty for, now I can enjoy the water at home with great taste and fewer contaminants but also at a much cheaper price per litre.Overall, I would recommend this product as it is trusted by many and provides a great solution to picky taste buds.

I bought this because about 6 months ago I poured a glass of water from my tap in Plymouth (Devon) and was disgusted by the quality of it. The water was slightly misty but didn't look clear at all. Then I realised I had been drinking misty water for months. I bought this product for £14 so I'm surprised to see it has increased to more than £20. When the jug arrived, there was a big manual included.SetupThe setup was fairly easy, you take the filter out the packet and stick it in the jug.DesignThe design is okay, but it could be improved. The shell uses high quality plastic and the handle is easy to grip. The transparent plastic is useful to see how effective the filter is.I have found the tip of the jug is sometimes annoying when pouring. If the jug isn't at the right angle, water will flow down the base and spill. When you put water into the jug, the liquid stays separate so you can pour and filter at the same time.ValueThe value of the product when I bought it was great, but it's a shame to see it has gone up in price. The filters are expensive. I recently got a three pack of filters which was reduced to £10 at Tesco so I think £3.3 a filter isn't that bad. The reader on the jug says they need replacing every month. I replace my filters every 3-4 months because the water remains clear to me when it's filter. On Amazon a three pack of filters is £16, so £5.3 for each filter is quite expensive to me. That's probably my water bill for 2 weeks. Overall, I think the water is still good. You can buy cheaper water filters from brands like Wilkos, but I can't say whether they will be as effective.

If you're reading this, it is most likely that you and I are very alike. At some point in your life, it has become of you to buy a water filter. The first thing I asked myself is 'what's in water that I need to filter out? Surely if I turn a tap at home I can pour it into a cup a drink it right? Correct. Having researched (here's your 10mins back) where water comes from, the end result is much the same for many houses in UK. You turn a tap and safe drinking water appears. It doesn't taste great though. It also makes water marks on glass too. However sceptical I may have been, I have eaten my hat and I would absolutely recommend buying a britta filter to anyone who lives in a residential area of HARD water. If you're not sure if that's you, unless your show glass/window is streak and mark free, your water is '.hard'This Britta Filter Jug filters a large amount of water making it taste great and have health benefits. I wish I would have discovered one years ago!And the answer to the question everyone asks: Filters are not overly expensive and should be replaced every 40 gallons which should last at least 2 months.

I bought this as a replacement for my old jug, as the cover over the pouring spout had broken, and despite using every cleaning product I could imagine, the rubber ring, on the base to stop it slipping, always looked dirty & mouldy.I quite like the updated design, and the rubber ring has gone. This does mean that the jug can slide on a worktop quite easily.I was very confused by the design of the inner water reservoir, so much so that I called customer services! The old cylindrical filters drained completely into the jug, but these new Maxtra filters don't. There is a pool of water left in the base of the inner funnel. There appeared to be a punch hole in the base of the funnel, that I thought hadn't been punched correctly during manufacture, and despite trying to punch it out, it felt far to secure and I was frightened I'd break the part. Customer Services assured me there was no fault and this is the "new way", but couldn't say why. Personally, I think it poses a health risk if you don't use a lot of water (fortunately I do), as the water could end up sitting in the bottom of the reservoir for ages.

I’m really pleased with the Brita XL water filter. I bought one as I drink a lot of squash as I don’t like the taste of tap water but know I should drink more . We have a filter on our kitchen tap and on our fridge but this definitely makes a difference to the taste of water. It is a very large item and I didn’t really think about the size for going in the fridge door. I have a samsung American fridge/freezer and this fits in the door easily/luckily.The flip top makes refilling easy without having to take the lid off and the spout has a little flap meaning water comes out in a steady flow without gushing everywhere. The filter indicator on the top is handy although I doubt filters will last long as I've had it a week and it’s on 75%.As other reviewers have said the filter doesn’t fit flush to the bottom of the jug so some water does get trapped -not sure if this will cause an issue to the use or not.

This is a fantastic water filter, It Is very easy to use & Is good value for money as you not only get an XL Jug but also a free maxtra+ filter too. The water doesn't leak out while pouring as the lid is very firm but at the same time easy to open for cleaning, It also has a filter cage on the top of the lid so you know when to replace your Maxtra+.This Brita Jug Xl holds a good amount of water so you're not constantly having to top up as with previous smaller one and not only is this nice to have fresh drinking non-chlorine free water but it seems to get the kids to drink more too :) Our water has now lost the Awful metallic taste and chlorine smell, I now don't need to boil my water beforehand to add it to my cooking,I have also been having the best tasting scum free cups of tea :)Would highly recommend anyone to purchase one especially if they live in an extremely hard water area as I do.

I previously had a shop`s own brand smaller one (maxtra compatible), bought on the spur of the moment when I realised the old cartridges had been stopped...it was a bit of a nightmare constantly filling and the spout was splurty, so bought this instead. The capacity is much better & fairly easy to fill with the little inbuilt flip lid.Any larger and they would start to become unwieldy I suppose - this is much better either way.The lcd timer is a nice touch but yet another battery to change. The Asda Maxtra compatible cartridges fit OK.Edit: I have since discovered that you can not change the battery on the timer, they say it`s good for 5 years if I recall,so they expect you to replace the whole thing - nonsense of course but I don`t take much notice of it anyway, using it as more of a rough estimate of when it needs changing, the cartridges last more than a month here anyway.

Why didn't I get one of these before? Who's the bigger idiot, me or me? Maybe it was after all, something in the water. You would have thought that living in an hard water area would have got the brain cells rattling a bit. Maybe I'm just not quick enough and it has taken me till now to come to my senses… Or has all that stuff the government has been putting in the water to suppress our thoughts really been delaying my fight back? After using this product, the water tastes better and has a clearer texture on the pallet. I now use my new filtered government-manipulated water for all my water consumption needs and my little friends also have it in their drinking water bottle. Remember,if you don't want the government to put something extra in your water to stunt your children's education, so you and your family never get out of the poverty-trap… Get one of these, NOW!

I just want to give some information for someone who wants to buy this product. I started using the jug and filter on 1st of July. There is an indicator on the lid of the jug which apparently tells you when you need to change for a new filter. I still don't know how the indicator works so far as I don't see any battery or any alike that drive this mechanism and the most important of all it is enclosed. It just works automatically all along since the first pouring of water out from the jug. Today, 29th of July, the indicator told me to change a new filter. A family of 4, use it for drinking water, cooking pasta and final rinse of the fruits for which the skin can be eaten. In these summer days,we drink very less just water, about 1 liter each day. We drink prepacked liquid from the stores, such as bubbling water, soda, fruit juice and milk.

Heads up, this is a large jug that probably won’t fit it the fridge and can be heavy to lift when full. As such you shouldn’t give negative feedback for discovering that its heavy and doesn’t fit in your fridge. Thats the published size.I've had 3 or 4 Brita jugs over the years, this has the newer style filter ( no idea if it’s backwards compatible with older jugs) and its the regular deal with the pointless digital counter in the lid and the expensive filters which you can usually find on offer. The only thing i dont like is that it has a rim on the underside, almost unnoticeable, but rapidly accumulates dirt on the underside which is usually wet so needs a constant scrub when it’s empty.Maybe a solid rubber/silicone non slip underside would be better.

We purchased a ‘BRITA Marella XL Water Filter’ some years ago and have always been completely delighted. Used primarily to fill the kettle and iron, the 'scaling' problems associated with our hard water simply disappeared altogether. When that jug was accidentally dropped and broken it was immediately replaced. Our kettle is boiled several times every day and is immediately refilled from the Water Filter - which is then topped up from the tap. The Filter clearly shows when the cartridge needs replacing and each one seem to last for about a month.A pack of 12, therefore, is a years supply (for us). More importantly,we don’t get those wretched bits of scaling which occasionally drop into your cup of tea or cooking (or whatever).NM

We’ve been increasingly noticing our water goes cloudy in the glass and tastes different. This solves that.Between two of us we discharged an entire monthly filter in 2 weeks, noticing that the water quality had returned. Perhaps we drink a lot, or the fact that this covers 100 litres is worth considering against your consumption, net result is 2 filters a month and they are not cheap. I tried a 3 rd party brand but they were awful so we’re sticking with Brita 6 packs at around £25 for 3 months. Quite a bit?I’m no fan of reading a manual but neither of us can fathom out the digital display and it didn’t tally up with when the filter ran out which truth be told was obvious, bit of a gimmick.

Very happy with this. After reading recent articles about microplastics and the like being in tap water I wanted a water filter for myself and the family to use at home. Having been a previous tap and bottled water drinker I can say it's well worth the purchase - saving money on bottles from the supermarket and less waste, and better tasting water than tap water. Very easy to set up and use, also easy to wash the jug and change the filter. I like the indicator - very handy in knowing when to change the filter. Good size and doesn't take up much room on my kitchen counter. Don't know why I waited so long to buy a water filter...definately worth the £26!

This is a great product. Tea and coffee taste so much better, cleaner and there is no hard water scum on the surface of tea when using tea bags in a mug. We find that to completely avoid tea bag scum on the surface of the tea that 3 to 3.5 weeks is probably the max time before changing the filter, but this is no problem compared to the benefits of using our Brita, and I guess is due to our hard water area. Be aware that if you have weak wrists, or arm strength, the Marcella XL is quite heavy when it’s full - ie you’d be lifting 3kgs of water to pour into the kettle. Full elderly people I would suggest a smaller model if wrist strength etc is a problem.
