PROs- There is definitely a distinguishable improvement in the taste of the water. Some impurities are removed however the final taste does not compare to that of bottled water, I still prefer bottled water.- The filter itself has a rubber base allowing it to be impact resistant at the base and slip resistant.- The handle is also lined with rubber allowing comfortable non slip grip when holdingCONS- If you overfill through the pour thorough lid water leaks out through the sides and handle area - which can be a pain- If you filter through more than approx 2.5 litres at any one time waters collects in the central compartment that holds the filter in situ. You then have to take the filter out to remove this water - pain!- I also find that the filter meter technology is not accurate. It does not matter how frequently or minimally I use it. It last approx a month before I’m prompted to replace the filter.- To fill to full potential 3.5 litres would need to remove entire central unit which isn’t difficult to do however, filtering through 3.5 litres of water whilst central unit is in place is not achievable.- If you are looking to buy a filter as you under the impression filtered water is safer then me enlighten you; If you are living in a 1st world country your tap water is very very safe and a brita filter will do essentially nothing to the microbacterial content of the water, if anything by removing the chlorine disinfectant it will actually increase the pathogen content if filtered water is left sanding for too long.PRODUCT FEATURES- Large counter top design with 2.4 Litres filtered water capacity, 3.5 Litres total capacity- dishwasher safe (except lid) and with pour through lid and non slip base- Meter technology measures your water hardness, volume usage and time for accurate cartridge replacement- Features formula MAXTRA+ filter cartridge with 25 percent finer mesh for better reduction of coarse particles, lasts around one month- Micro carbon pearls reduce chlorine and organic impurities which affect taste and odour of food and drink- Ion exchange pearls permanently absorb lead and copper and reduce limescale, for household appliance protection- brita claims to remove impurities such as calcium, chlorine, magnesium and leadCONCLUSIONThe taste of the water is definitely improved by this filter therefore will continue to use it. (I’ve been using Brita filters for years and I personally feel that their filter quality has declined over the years).

I bought this Brita Elemaris XL water filter jug to replace the Brita Marella XL water filter jug...not because there was anything wrong with the Marella but it was blue...my husband bought a blue jug to go in a black/white kitchen....it's in the details I told him! Anyhow both jugs come in the bigger family size of 3.5 litres. The filtered water tastes good and as we live in a very hard water area, we pre-filter water before filling the kettle, iron etc. The water filters quickly too. Apart from being available in both black and white in the XL size (The Marella is Blue and White in the XL) there are some subtle differences. In my opinion, the Elemaris looks better and has a greater quality feel about it.It is easier to poor and easier to hold as the handle is better ergonomically. It is also easier to fill as the cap drops when the water hits it rather than having to hold the fill cap open. The Elemaris also has colour co-ordinated anti-slip feet at the bottom with gaps underneath that will allow any spilt water to dry rather than be trapped under the jug leaving a wet surface. However the Elemaris does have a couple of design flaws? The fill hole is at the front of the jug meaning that if you have unfiltered water in the fill chamber and you want to pour filtered water the unfiltered water comes out of the fill hole so the two mix. This only happens in the extreme if you have the fill chamber full but it can and does happen. I always use the jug when the fill chamber is empty or nearly empty. Secondly, If you fill the fill chamber quite high the wates escapes from the handle (Where the top of the jug and the handle meet) I kept getting little puddles on my work surface and couldn't fathom from where they came from until one day I felt it coming down the handle after I had filled the jug. It doesn't flood the surface because as soon as enough water has filtered through the water level has dropped below the leak line. I am aware of these flaws and they are easy to work around but I have given the jug 4 stars to reflect this. It doesn't affect the daily use of this filter jug and the Elemaris is the jug I prefer both in looks and ease of use. I would recommend this water filter jug.

I've tried water filters before, and usually found them to be less than acceptable in terms of ease of use and effectiveness. Ironically, a few years back I bought a Brita kettle, that we ended up slinging, the taste was awful (and that wasn't cheap). So, somewhat reluctantly, and especially since it was such a good price, I decided to try this (Elemaris XL). Now insofar as the taste of our water (unfiltered), to be honest, I had no real problem with, but my wife doesn't like, and gets through 2l of bottled water a day to drink (she didn't mind tea and coffee with unfiltered water) Constantly buying cases of bottled water is both costly, and bulky, with the resultant plastic waste. So then,to this Jug filter. I have to say, it is brilliant, very well designed for ease of use, in fact it is a really quality piece of kit. The easy pour counterbalanced filling and pouring covers are superb. No flap to lift to fill, a delight to use. Water filter through into the main reservoir pretty quickly which is good, so even if totally empty you'll be good to go in a few short minutes. This is quite a big jug, with a large capacity (which is what we wanted), and we do now use for tea and coffee as well as purely plain drinking. My wife is very happy with the taste as am I, and no more constant bulk packs of bottled water. What we do is keep the jug filled and ready for tea and coffee etc; as well as filling a 2l lock and lock fridge door water jug. That way, chilled drinking water ready, and water ready for the kettle. The extra 2l for the fridge is a great standby for the kettle as well if you forget to refill the jug.Great product, great value, and well worth the money. I would definitely recommend. The taste is every bit as good as bottled water.I hope that you have found this review to be helpful.

I bought this one on july 2018, and a year after the handle broke, from the joint where the most stress falls when lifting the jug filled with water. This jug is big, less refilling of water needed, the taste of water is great, so different from tap water, your body will thank you for it, all limescale filtered. It needs regular cleaning tough, monthly or twice weekly, as it has many tiny gaps in between. The handle could be made stronger, but no worries, because if it doesn't resist the weight of the kettle when filled with water and brakes, you are covered by the warranty. Brita will modify their design if they receive many cases broken at the same place, but that is up to them.We just keep drinking water and reporting any faults or suggestions to them, they made it, they can also modify it to make it better.About my broken handle. I contacted Brita through their website, and they offered to help me promptly. They just needed pictures of where the fault it was to assess it if it was cover by the warranty.A few hours later they replied and offered to send me a replacement. This just made my day, amazing and professional service. After 3 days I received the replacement by Royal Mail; furthermore, I was thinking that they were going to send me just the base, but they send the whole thing and they even included a filter in it. : )So, yes, Brita is they one to go for. I just carry on as usual, changing my filter every month, regular cleaning and all should be fine.

I bought the Brita water filter jug now over two years ago and thought that it is the right time now to share my experience. (Back then I got the jug in a pack with 3 cartridges which is currently not available on Amazon)I love the product and I think it is the best alternative to store bought water bottles - definitely in regards to the environment. It is very easy to use / set up and the display is quite useful as a guidance to know when to replace the cartridges (although I keep them in until I start tasting the chlorine in the filtered water - which is still a lot of usages from the point where the display says 'new')I use the jug every day - several times,as I just cannot drink the unfiltered tab water or use it for cooking due to the chlorine taste (I lived many years in Germany and just never got used to the water taste in the UK).. It definitely saves you time running to the grocery store and carrying the heavy water bottles.I never calculated if it actually saves you money. But instead of the original Brita Maxtra filters you could get the Amazon Basic ones - those are definitely cheaper and lifespan and quality wise I would say they are the same, they are just a bit harder to get out of the jug when you replace them...)I would buy the jug again anytime and would recommend it to everyone - and I promise your tea will taste WAY better ;-)

I've been using a standard 1.4L water filter for many years now and only discovered the 3.5L XL filter when I went round a friends house and saw they had one. I just wish I'd made the switch years ago because it's so much easier to use. The problem with smaller version is that you have to fill it 3 times as often and constantly removing the lid every time can be a bit of a faff especially if you accidentally miss-align it with the container in the top. The Elemaris has a self closing fill hole in the top so there's no messing around with a removable lid - you just fill and go. The only drawback with the whole system is that the cost of the genuine MAXTRA filters can be expensive if you don't shop around but there are cheaper alternatives available if you really want to go down that route. And remember to make sure that the filter unit is not sitting in direct sunlight now that its summer as it will quickly turn green! (as I found out to my cost).Read full review...

My jug is 11 months old and I have just noticed cracks around the handle too, also minute cracks in the plastic around the spout. It also has never been dropped or banged. However realising it was under 12 months old, I emailed Brita this morning enclosing proof of purchase (photos of my Amazon purchase details) and photos of the cracks and within a couple of hours had received a reply apologising and stating they would send a replacement jug out to me as soon as I provided my address. By later in the afternoon another email arrived advising a replacement jug was on the way. You can’t beat that for customer service! On the size of the jug, I do find the handle awkward to hold when completely filling the jug,I think anyone with weaker wrists might struggle with it and yes of course it will leak if you overfill it. Probably would have been better off with the smaller jug for a two person family if I am honest but that has nothing to do with the quality.

We recently moved into an area in the UK where the tap water was very chlorinated and wasn't very tasty to drink, which impacted our daily water consumption. To remedy this, we purchased the BRITA Elemaris XL and it's the best thing we could have done. The smell and taste of the chlorine has been fully removed, and the filter has also hopefully filtered out the other "toxins" that they claim to do (which we have no way of ascertaining). The XL jug is an excellent size for us and it takes about 2-3 minutes to filter the water to maximum. The cartridges typically last about a month, and there's a little mono screen on the lid that lets you know when the filter is at 100% (new), 75%, 50%,25% and when it requires changing.Generally, this jug and filter has worked far better than expected and would recommend it highly.

As our tap water has an obvious taste, we bought water in plastic bottles. This didn't sit well with us, because of the environment and plastic pollution. We decided we had to get a water filter. We chose this as we liked the large capacity. Really easy to use. It us quite heavy, so would recommend a smaller capacity for anyone with grip problems. Not experienced "leaking" or water coming over as some have mentioned, but then we don't overfill, as the capacity is more than enough for a day. We don't fill it from the tap, but fill a jug and take it to it so much easier. We like the fact that it has a meter to inform us when the filter is due for changing. All in all, a really useful addition to our kitchen. Can't fault it. AND it was half price!

Had little idea what I was ordering to be perfectly honest. I just knew we needed a new water filter since I stuck my fist through the first one because the top fell off (again), covering my kitchen side and kettle with water so just ordered the first Brita I saw. No idea this was a special edition at half price.Stylish to look at and love the water sensor actually tells you the life left in your filter rather than just say "ding, 1 month up, change the filter!". Its been two weeks now and still my kettle hasn't an ounce of limescale in it. Should have bought this model years back. Sounds silly to be so high on a water filter but as I fast approach 38 I notice little things like this and howthey make life better for us all.

I was so glad I got this jug, I only drink water or coffee, our tap water tastes horrible and bleachy. Having drunk bottled water for months I decided to take the plunge and get one of these brita jugs, I chose the largest jug because of the amount of water our household drinks. The initial cost of the jug was £20 with one filter that lasts a month. Then a further 3 filters for £12. I make massive savings by not buying water in plastic bottles and have also been more eco friendly, its a win- win. The brita filters really do make our tap water taste lovely and once the filters have been used I can just drop them in at my local supermarket to recycle them, recommend that everyone tries a brita filter jug

I've never really liked Water filters before, having tried several and friends' and families' houses. Most of them would never be big enough and they seemed to be replacing the filters all the time. However, I took a punt on this filter as it was supposed to be an XL size and the best quality filter yet. I have to say, I have been converted. Having just purchased a house in what turned out to be a "hard water" area, this has been an invaluable purchase over the last couple of weeks and I use it several times a day. It has an easy to read sensor on top so you can tell when to change the filter and an "easy fill" hole in the lid so you don't have to try and get it off and on every time!

This is my third, it is in waiting as my old one is now rather tatty around the edges and I don't think it will be with us for much longer. The water here is dreadful, so over chlorinated, my old dog got Chlorine Poisoning so bought a filter jug straight away, wouldn't go back to using the water straight from the tap.I buy the larger jug as I use filtered water for cooking as well as drinking, and fill up the water dispenser that is in the fridge door, so get through a lot of water every day, the small jug would not be feasible to use as filling it would almost be a constant exercise and there wouldn't be enough there when required!

16.10.2019

Easy to use, quick to filter, stylish to look at and easy the set up I love the water sensor actually tells me when to change the filter (Less than a month) as we have a very hard water. It does the job as No limescale is building in the kettle yet (we have a glass one so it is easy to notice the difference). The design is not that smart. When you fill the jug from the top and the pressure from the tap opens the flap of the collection tank. You can't pour the filtered water until it finishes filtering as the water from the top tank will leak from the flap, it would be better if the flap would opens to the back which will prevent this

I bought this to reduce impurities in the water as my husband uses a catheter and it was blocking up all the time. I have to say that it has helped greatly with this. Also my kettle is much cleaner and there is no scum on the top of the tea/coffee. The only downside is that when full it is heavy and it will not fit in my fridge door. I just decant the filtered water into a jug then put it in the fridge. I never have a drink without using the filtered water and it had just become part of my routine to keep it filled and also have some in the fridge all the time. It is easy to clean and the indicator on the top is very useful.
