This is the second review I've written for Brita and it's simply because I just love the quality of the water they produce.First off these are great value for money: a 6 pack at £19.73 (with Prime) breaks down as £3.28 per cartridge. Over 30 days that's c.10 pence per day. To buy a 1.5 litre bottle of Volvic is about 64p from the supermarket, so that's a saving of almost 54p per day / c.£16.20 per month and a yearly saving of £194.40. It seems odd to do the calculation I know, but water should be a free resource and so it's madness to me that we are forced to pay 64p a bottle when we can just buy a filter cartridge and save 84%! Not to mention that fact that shop bought plastic bottles contain Phthalates.Although water, in and of itself, does not go bad, the plastic bottle it is contained in does "expire" and will eventually start leaching chemicals into the water. If you look at the expiry dates on bottled water, it's 2 years, so in theory that water could have been sitting on the shelf for that long! For me personally, I like cold fresh water, which I've filtered and from which I know the source. i.e. my kitchen tap!I've been using Maxtra Water Filter Cartridges for 5 years now and won't use anything else. My Brita fridge jug has also stood the test of time and is still going strong. My jug has a set timer which indicates when the cartridge needs replacing. I always make sure to give the jug a good clean each month before inserting the new cartridge. The cartridge is so easy to use. It comes in a sealed plastic bag, which is easy to open and has clear instructions. After I've cleaned the jug, I submerge the filter in water for 30 seconds to ensure it's fully soaked then insert it into the filter hole in the jug. From there I push down gently until I feel it click into place. After I add water and let it filter through, pour away then repeat twice more, close the lid, set the timer and place in the fridge to chill! That's it! Now I have fresh water for the next 30 days and at a fraction of the cost of what it would cost me to buy in the shops. The taste of the filtered water is very clean with no strange aftertaste - I often find that shop bought water has a slight metallic taste and bizarrely sometimes fails to quench my thirst. A truly great product and one that I'll continue to use for years to come. Thanks Brita for making such a quality product.

First off these are great value for money: a 12 pack breaks down as £2.49 per cartridge. Over 30 days that's 8 pence per day. To buy a 1.5 litre bottle of Volvic is about 64p from the supermarket, so that's a saving of 56p per day / £16.80 per month! We have been using these water filters cartridges with our water jug BRITA Elemaris Meter XL Black Water Filter Jug for some time now.We live on the Isle of Wight which is quite a hardwater area, and although I admit to being initially sceptical as to their use, thinking they were just another way to get me to part with money on a regular basis, I have been won over and can definitely see that they work! The technical description is that the cartridges reduce limescale, chlorine and impurities. In English they make the water taste better and really cut down on limescale forming in the kettle! The recommendation is that the cartridge should be changed once a month; we get through about two full jugs of water a day,and have found they are actually effective for upto nearly two months. The cartridges are very easy to install and are recyclable afterwards, most big supermarkets will take them (we drop off at a collection bin in our local Tesco's).These cartridges will fit in all BRITA MAXTRA jugs, but do bear in mind you buy the right filters for the right jug (something we didn't initially do!).The prices Amazon sell them for are generally better than the supermarkets, at the time of writing this review they are about £15.00 for this six pack (I have seen them in supermarkets at around the £30.00 mark for this number, so the Amazon price is a real bargain). These filters come in a variety of pack sizes, from individual to four packs, this six pack, and eight, twelve and even twenty packs.I really like this six pack size because we'll hopefully get just about a year out of it; so basically thats about £15 for the year, not too shabby!Overall a very good product, they definitely work and do make a considerable difference to the taste of the water, your cuppa will never have tasted so good!

We have been using these for years and our Bosch kettle is certainly appreciative as there has been no limescale build up over about 4-years of use. Have also recently purchased a Bosch Tassimo coffee maker which has a Brita Maxtra water tank meaning you can use the same cartridges in both the normal water tank and the coffee maker.Have to admit though I tend to swap over the one in the coffee machine once the month indicator comes up and then use it in the water filter which gets more use - after all it has not had much to do with 2 or 3 cups of coffee per day so it seems a waste! Always tend to go a week over the month indicator anyway and the kettle has not shown any impact from this.In terms of purchase the price can fluctuate wildly so I tend to hold one of these in my 'wish list'to get a view as to when the decrease comes along then buy a pack for several months use. The last time of ordering it was for twelve pounds for a pack of 6 so try to aim for something like this. You can recycle old cartridges - simply visit this website (cut and paste) and type in your Postcode. There should be a drop off very close to where you live and also in most major supermarkets: http://www.brita.co.uk/brita/en-GB/cms/dealerfinder/dealerfinder.gridOverall, a great purchase and if you buy at the right time very cost-effective

We have had various Brita jugs for over 20 years, and were prompted to purchase the jug initially following moving into a new house in another area of Essex, and having a strong chemical taste in our water which was very obvious in tea or coffee. Anglian Water advised that the water was within their stated limits. So we purchased our first jug. We are now on our third which uses the Maxtra filter, our previou jugs used the classic filter, and whilst we tried various generic alternative filters, they were not as good as the Brita original. The Maxtra filter is the best, but is expensive. On the odd occasion we could get them on offer from Tesco or Wilco but were still expensive. Before purchasing our next filter, had a look at Amazon and wow, a box of 6 for £15.99, if we were lucky we could get just 3 for that price, and they are genuine Brita originals. Placed our order and the box arrived the next morning, yet again great service from Amazon.Brita also offer a free jug timer replacement service, although I could not find this mentioned on their web. Ours has failed, so contacted Brita and a free replacement is in the post to us. Great product and great service from them. For what it's worth, we also use our filtered water to top up our fishtanks both freshwater and marine.

This product is good and price is also good. But just be careful about amazon prime membership. If amazon asked you to try a trial version of amazon prime, just be careful. If you accept it and the period of the trial is finished you will automatically become a member of amazon prime and amazon will charge you. In UK it is 79 GBP per a year. Apparently they send you an email with instruction on how to cancel your membership but if you don't see the email (like me and my colleague) among so many emails from amazon and don't follow the instruction and cancel your trial amazon prime membership then you become a member automatically. They don't send a paper receipt to your address so you wouldn't notice that they have debited your account.Today I and a colleague of mine noticed that we have been an amazon prime member and our accounts have been debited for 79 GBP. He could refund it but I could not because apparently I was unknowingly using the one day delivery service of amazon prime for the last 10 months, even though I had never used other services like watching movies... I just thought I share this information so that you also double check your account and make sure you are not an amazon prime member against your will.

We are blessed in the UK with probably one of the best, safest water supply systems on the planet. However, there is no doubt that in some parts of the country, it doesn't taste so good, even if it is perfectly safe and healthy. We don't have a water jug because of some misplaced idea that we're otherwise going to die of chemical poisoning, but we do have one because it improves the taste of the water. A glass of water out of the jug tastes noticeably better than straight from the tap. We routinely fill up our bean to cup coffee machine from the jug too. You really can tell the difference. Any hint of a chlorine-type taint is removed.I tend to run a filter for two cycles of the little 4-week timer on the jug, which gets filled several times a day. This doesn't seem to cause any discernible change in the quality of what comes through, just like dates on food I don't see why a filter should be fine after 3.5 weeks but not after 4, I'm sure they would probably be fine even after 3 months. So a pack of 6 will last us a year. This pack of 6 filters for around 15 pounds is by far the best value I can find. The same pack from our online supermarket is usually around 24 pounds.

For many years I have bought bottled water. I live in a hard water area but I grew up in a soft water area. I was OK drinking soft water from the tap but the hard water has a strong earthy taste. I was turned onto water filters after having dinner with friends. They served water from a BRITA Elemaris Water Filter Jug. I couldn't tell the difference between bottled water and this filtered water. I immediately bought the same BRITA jug and a pack of BRITA filters. I've been using the water filter for about 6 months now and I haven't bought a bottle of water since. One piece of advice. You can buy these filter cartridges in different pack sizes from Amazon.I've noticed that you don't necessarily get more value for money by ordering the larger pack sizes. It's worth checking the price per filter when choosing the pack size. For example, based on Amazon's prices today the cost per filter for the 4 pack is £2.50 but the cost per filter for the 15 pack is £2.93. Worth doing some simple maths before you order. If you're interested this is the jug that I ordered with these filters...BRITA Elemaris Water Filter Jug - 3.5 L, Black

The Brita filters are really great! The only problem I have with them is that they don't last the full 'four weeks' (as by our indicator on the Brita jug). We've had to have our water tested previously (For digestive health issues/problems) and at that time, there was no unusual amount of scale in the water (Which could have potentially explained why the cartridges didn't last as long). THAT Said, we still buy these, it's a VERY good alternative to polluting our 'bins' with excess and unnecessary bottled water! We can always buy our own re-usable bottles, and the cartridges are encouraged to be recycled (As well as all packaging). They are very easy to 'pop out' of the jug, very easy to 'soak, swish' and insert INto the jug container. And DO keep the water very clean!! Just wish they would last longer!! But we do keep getting these (I am on the prowl for a review out there that directs me to a filter and/or filter jug system that says WOW THESE ARE FANNNNNNNNTASTIC! lol) in the mean-time these are what we use! And are quite happy otherwise! Good packaging, service and delivery! No problems!! Thank you!

Following the instructions to prepare the cartridges to the letter, this item has been purchased by us along with an updated jug to replace one of the older versions with the original cartridges: they certainly seem to work better, although they use the same process as their predecessor. The throughput of filtered water is a much faster process than previously and it does seem to produce a slightly better result in water qualityI must admit that whilst they are good and do reduce the quantity of residue left in the cup etc, we find that due to the hardness of our water (Wimborne Dorset) that they do not remove all of the limescale held in suspension. On a positive note, they do help to make the water taste better and remove the scent and taste of chlorine, which is particularly strong in our area.I suppose that the proof of their worth to us is that whilst not a five star product in our eyes, we have been buying them or similar for a very long time and whilst they are not perfect for us, they do as good a job as they can and therefore 4 stars seems a fair rating.

We have been using Brita filters in one of there jugs for years, having recently brought a new jug and bulk order of these filters we noticed that a new filter was needed every two weeks made enquires from Brita. Only to be told they had altered the jugs monitor if you use a moderate amount of water it would say one would need to replace the cartridge every two weeks and not every four weeks . we thought that this should be told to customers when they buy a new jug. or else like us you need a new cartridge every two weeks not four as stated on the packet which we thought was was very misleading, they also said it would be cheaper to buy a taping filters, but not every body can afford a new tap after having a new tap just two years ago after having a kitchen fitted.I think this is very misleading they should be telling customers of the new way in a purchased of a new way not let them find out while using the new jug. Some customers would t be put off by the new information.as we were if they use a far amount of water.

I've been using these filters for Brita jugs for years and I am always happy with the quality of water you get. I always immerse the brand new filter into water till the bubbles come on top of it after which I insert it onto the jug. Once inserted in the jug, it is important to have two test-try it twice before you can drink of use the filtered water. I would pour water in the jug once, let it filter, then discard it and repeat the procedure a second time. After that it is OK to drink. I've also noticed that if not stored properly the filters can become moist. If they do become, it is best not to use them.Overall, I am very happy with these types of Brita filters and I plan to use them for more years to come.Buying them in bulk, x8, x16 or 32 is cheaper but you should take good care of them and store them in cool, dry place, away from water, e.g. in a cupboard.I certainly recommend them and I know for fact that the quality of water after it has been filtered by these Brita cartridges is quite notable.

These are expensive water filters, but they do their job. The pros and cons are as follows:Pros:- They make the water taste nicer (although not always as good as bottled water)- They are well-packaged and individually wrappedCons:- They are expensive (I bought these on offer)- They leave small black particles in your water, which detracts from the psychological idea that the water is "as good as bottle water"- They improve the taste of the water, but I'm not sure they 'clean' the water. If you read the Brita website, they use phrases such as "removes the chlorine taste" rather than "removes the chlorine".Summary:These are expensive, but I would recommend them to anybody who can afford them. They work at improving the taste of your drinking water, although the taste is not always as good as bottled water. If you want filters that actually clean your water, you may want to do some thorough research before purchasing a filter.

Living in a hard water area is quite a disadvantage - any piece of equipment that is exposed to untreated mains water gets furred up and eventually requires replacing - but calcium is good for the teeth, so that might explain why I still have all my own gnashers even though I am fairly advanced in years !These filters last us about 6 weeks and avoid the kettle getting furred up. It also provides us with soft water for our orchids, maidenhair ferns etc which will only accept calcium-free water. At over £3 each (RRP) they might appear to be expensive, but that works out at only 50p aweek - 7 pence a day. Replacing the filters in the jug is a pain but really doesnt take long. The local Argos store recycles spent filters so it is all very environment friendly.Overall this is a good product - but now I am looking at the possibility of treating all my incoming water so I dont have to change the hot water tank every 5 years !
