I have used the Aqua Optima water filter for 5 years. This was when water quality became a real cause for concern due to scandals of silage leaks and even large farms and factories criminally discharging poisonous industrial chemicals into rivers thus the water table. There were also incidents of water filtration plants going into meltdown with sewage mixed in with clean water and (sometimes toxic) chlorine overload levels due to faulty equipment. There was one incident where a potential human catastrophe was only averted by an automatic shut down system that cut off the water supply when, at that specific time, it was unmanned. There are often reports of algae and even tiny bugs surviving in tap water systems and how often have you seen news reports of water tanks in areas after a major water pollution incident? It's all over the media and an internet search will find page upon page of incidents such as these. In normal tap water, no matter where you live, there are fertilisers, pesticides, heavy metals (read mildly toxic and slightly radioactive) and obviously chlorine (used to kill bacteria in the treatment works) still present at the tap. Many water filtration plants use fresh reservoir (river and rain) water and filter it by running it through gravel and fine sand filter beds and then purify it further and add chlorine and flouride and other chemicals to it. Some are part fresh water and/or sewage-only water treatment plants that recycle human urine and faeces. After it is processed in a bacterial soup to convert the solids and bacteria to a very thin murky fluid it is then fine-filtered and the necessary chemicals are added, as per a fresh water treatment works, to produce clean drinking water. But imagine what bacteria, viruses, drugs, chemicals and pollutants it contained beforehand. There is also pollution after the plant pumps the water towards you due to repair work on underground burst mains and the lead from internal household pipework which by law may still be pipes made from solid lead. It is only external, mains water pipes that must not be lead. All this pollution is default in standard tap water everywhere. The Optima filter cartridges reduce these pollution levels by around 80% minimum and totally eliminate small particles of rust and other detrius that may be present. These are trapped inside the filter due to a fine mesh filter. The filter reduces, or eliminates completely, contaminants such as lime-scale, chlorine, heavy metals, herbicides and pesticides but retains beneficial elements, including fluoride and potassium which are essential to good health. These filters deliver purer water and provide a highly convenient way to enhance the taste of hot and cold drinks and meals, whilst greatly extending the life of kettles and other domestic appliances, such as steam irons and hair curlers if you use it in them. However, it does not filter limitless amounts of water for these specified 60 days. There is a limit as to how much water can be fully purified before the cartridge is no longer effective. This is about 200 litres of water so just 4 on average (1.0 litre mark) filled jugs a day for 60 days gives 240 litres and 40 litres over-or 10 average days. If you did deduce such average usage then change the filter 10 days earlier at 50, not 60 days, instead. Monitor how often you fill the jug to that mark and change the filter when needed and you should get the full benefit. But also remember to regularly and thoroughly wash out your Optima jug and lid and descale it, with cilit bang or similar, then rinse it scrupulously. And as a separate measure also carefully clean the jug-to-filter white latex sealing ring with mild washing up liquid then give the filter itself a very light rub with a plastic scouring sponge all over (but don't use any detergent or cleaner on the filter itself, obviously.)If you follow all the above tips carefully you will be exposed to less toxicity and feel healthier. The water will also taste a whole lot better and your kettle will have less lime-scale build-up and, most importantly, you and your guests, family and particularly your children won't be exposed to brain damaging chemicals, particularly lead. You will know you are drinking cleaner water and the psychological comfort that brings is only positive.I hope this review is helpful. I always tell it as it is without fear nor favour.

I brought these when they were selling for 20 pounds for 12 pack of 60 days filter from amazon directly including free delivery. Very good pricing considering they not only cheaper but double the lifetime of 60 days compared to the normal 30 ones.I own and have been using both Brita and Aqua filter and jugs in the past. In terms of water quality, I do not see much difference between these aqua evolve compared with Brita Maxtra or the old style aqua filters. Very nice tasting water, which is exactly what I wanted. Also I use filtered water to pour into my kettle for boiling. This helped in preventing lime scale build up a lot.In terms of fitting, these Aqua Evolve have 3 filter holes in the bottom to acclerate water passage.Much quicker filtering compared to the Brita Maxtra or the old style Aqua filters.I have tried to use these Aqua Evolve filters to fit into both Brita and Aqua filter jugs. When fitted into the Brita jugs, it fits alright, unlikely some other reviewers, I cannot detect any leakage of water bypassing the filter. When the Aqua Evolve is being fitted to the normal Aqua jugs, however, I have noitced a small leak on the side by passing the filter. It does not really affect the water quality, as the quantity is very small. It's just a bit annoying considering Aqua have launched a product that filts their competitor's (Brita) jug better (as far I as can tell, without leakage). However, when the same filter is being fitted to their own jug, it produce a minor leak.'Overall, very good pricing filters that can potentially fit both Brita and Aqua jug designs.Good quality water, indistinguishable from Brita Maxtra or normal Aqua filters.Good fit for Brita, small leak when fitted to Aqua jugs.

I originally bought these filters to use in a Brita jug, but like other reviewers I didn't like the way the top of the filter protruded a centimetre above the filter cavity in the jug, meaning some water was always left in the top water reservoir. So I bought the cheapest of the Aqua Optima jugs (reviewed separately) rather than try returning the unused filters or throwing them away.I have to say I'm impressed! The water quality has been very good (I'm now on the 5th filter) with no trace of chlorine or any other unwanted taste or smell. And my kettle has very little lime-scale build-up (I live in a very hard water area). It does pay not to refill the jug too many times, one immediately after the other - as recommended by the other, well known brand, after filling it twice let it rest for 15 minutes before filling again; otherwise there was a hint of chlorine. The filters appear to last the full 30 days without a problem - I refill the jug at least 6 times a day. And there seems to have been a change in the production process since some of the older reviews; I have not had any problems with filters not working when I followed the preparation instructions - the filters appear to be vacuum packed in their plastic bags, now, which may help. I haven't been able to determine whether they're packed wet or not, though. And finally, a hint to would-be purchasers: you will have seen some reviewers saying the filter rate was very slow. To avoid this, when you're filling the jug, make sure the stream of water from the tap hits the hole in the centre of the top surface of the cartridge - this seems to have the effect of kick-staring the filter, and mine have run at the same, reasonable, speed for the whole 30 days.

In all respects of usage and apparent quality of water, these filters seem to match the Brita ones and fit Maxtra jugs. The "fit" of the cartridge into the jug is not quite as tight as an orginal Brita filter. This looks as if it allows a percentage of unfiltered water to seep slowly down the sides of the filter. This is particularly relevant because the filter itself stands proud of the base of the fill part - about .7cm - whereas original Brita filters sit flush with the base. In my jug that means around 10% of the water appeared as if it wasn't being filtered. In my original review, I knocked off a star for this "defect".However, it turns out I was mistaken about the design.Aqua Optima Customer Services responded (see Comment below review) and told me this:"The Evolve filter are designed with additional height and side filtering capability ensuring 100% filtration of tap water, the advantages are:a. extra active ingredient when compared to other competitor filters (allows longer filter life)b. side filtering holes are designed to optimise flowrate, ensuring maximum contact time (improved filtration)c. side filtering holes ensure that all active ingredient is used within the filter (improved filtration & longer life)"So although some of the water appears not to be getting filtered, it is via the sides of the cartridge. The saving over original filters is reasonably significant and so this product gets 5 stars from me.EDITED: 7/11/11, for accuracy

Bought to fit the Brita Aluna Standard water filter jug.The filters fit very well and work brilliantly. I cannot detect any difference in taste between the Brita Maxtra filters (more expensive) and these evolve filters.I have seen that some reviews mention standing water in the un-filtered section of the jug due to this filter. There is about 1 cm of water sat in the bottom of the un-filtered water compartment as others state but NOT above the top of the filter. This is NOT a problem if you have the Brita Aluna Standard water filter jug (Maxtra filter type not the Maxtra+ type). The lid, as long as placed correctly, is designed so that if you pour water from the jug whilst there is still un-filtered water in the top,it will NOT contaminate the fresh filtered water as you pour. The reviews that claim this to be a problem do not state which jug they are using these filters on and so I presume do not have this feature. In short if you have a lid on your water filter jug that has a means to separate the un-filtered water from the fresh water, then these filters I can highly recommend.I will be ordering more of these in 6 months time when I need some more.Great product and great value for money!

I have used these both in my Brita filter kettle and my Aqua Optima filter jug. They seem to work fine in both and I would buy them again for the convenience of being able to use to both appliances. However, I would go for the 60-day filters to reduce the number of filter changes required. Three things to note with these filters:(1) I had an issue with them at first because they were not filtering water and appeared to be blocked. These filters require far greater preparation time spent submerged in water than the Brita filters - I think this is because they are packaged dry, unlike the wet Brita filters. Submerge them in water, shake and spin them around to get all the air bubbles out.Once it sinks it should be ok. I almost gave up on these at first use because of this issue.(2) The filters take up more headspace than Brita Maxtra filters - this has an impact on my Brita kettle because it takes less water now and so has to be filled up more often to give the same amount of filtered water.(3) These cannot be recycled, unlike Brita filters.

An excellent product which I'm currently using as a replacement for Brita Maxtra cartridges, the Maxtra filters being a more expensive and arguably inferior product. These cartridges claim to last 60 days each, a full 30 days more than what Brita offers. With regard to taste, the water filtered by these cartridges tastes noticeably different from unfiltered tap water, which is particularly hard in my area. I am unable to discern a difference in the taste of the water filtered by these Aqua Optima cartridges and the Brita Maxtra cartridges, though can easily identify filtered water and unfiltered water in a blind test. Both filters mentioned in this review filter tap water to the point at which there are no visible impurities, unlike unfiltered tap water, where impurities can be readily seen with the naked eye and from some distance.Overall, I'm extremely happy with my purchase and would recommend to others. I've received a product that's equal or superior to what Brita offers and for a fraction of the price.

I am very pleased with this item - I use the filters in a Brita jug for standard Brita maxtra filters and although it looks as though there will be a vast amount of water left in the reservoir after filtering due to the size of them, these filters actually drain every last drop (and it isn't going down the edge past the seal) - I realise they must have built a syphon into them. I bought them back in September but have left it until now to review as I wanted to see the performance of one filter all the way - For years I have been using Maxtra filters for an extra 50% (2 bars) on the timer as I live alone and so use far less than 60 litres per month. As these are 2 month cartridges I have made this first one last 3 months and the water it produces is still nice tasting and doesn't fur up my kettle. So with the 3 I have left I still have 9 months left :-). These are a bargain. BTW I have found they filter the water at least as fast as an actual Brita filter unlike some people seem to be experiencing...

So, I had read all the reviews, the pros. the cons and I thought to myself "you know what, for that price, I will try it, even if they don't last as long as they say". For some time I have, like many, paid over the odds for Maxtra cartridges and over time I had noticed they were only filling them up half way with filtering materials and that they seemed to expire ever faster - all in a bit to make sure you're needing to buy a new one every four weeks and lower their manufacturing costs, of course. It has been 2 weeks since I installed my cartridge, unlike the Maxtra cartridges, two weeks later and I can still taste the filters affect on the water. I have noticed that it filters really quickly too.All said and done, these are great - I haven't crossed the two month line yet, but, at this rate, the cartridge is proving itself more effective and longer lasting than the Maxtra alternative and at this price who could complain? 5 stars from me, 5 stars well earned.

HiI bought this and a water filter jug for my mother to help her reduce her dependence on bottled water.I put the refill in the jug in 2 seconds just pop it in and slightly twist it to secure it then fill jug 3 times and it is ready to use.My mother liked the water's taste bearing in mind she had previously she said she wouldn't use the filter. Anyway, mother is now hooked. Today, I visited mum to find that she did not know how to put the filter back in when it had fallen out after refilled the unit. I showed her how simple it was. On another occasion my mother didn't know how to put the insert of the water filter the correct way around so the unit could close. I showed her how to do this.Mum is 79 apart from that mum has really taken to her water filter and I am impressed that the filter itself lasts 2 x months which is better value than my Brita filter (really old jug) and have ordered a new jug and these filters the same as mum's for myself.

I purchased these to use with my Bosch hot water dispenser which uses Brita filters. I got thoroughly sick of it demanding the filter be replaced after 21 days (which I only did once, I usually left it for 28-30 days), so I decided upon these handy 60-day filters. They arrived promptly and well-packaged. They are pretty straightforward to use: stick in a bowl/jug of water to push out air and run under a cold tap for 1 minute and flush through twice. It seems to work quite well and the water tastes fine. There are a couple of little niggles. It's quite large so the water does filter through far more slowly than the Brita (three times slower possibly?). Also the fit can be a little odd.The first filter was fine and all the water went through, with the second filter there always seems to be 5mm of water in the upper chamber. These don't affect the performance, but it does mean that you may need to wait a little longer for a drink.

I live in South East London where the tap water is extremely hard. I love drinking tea but hate the limescasle scum that floats on the top, so for many years I've used a Brita filter to get round this. I'd been looking for a more cost effective alternative to Brita's Maxtra cartridges for some time when I discovered the LAICA Biflux Water Filters here on Amazon. Unfortunately, even when using a brand new cartridge, there was still a little limescale scum on the surface, and by the fourth week it was almost as bad as using unfiltered water to make tea.I've just bought a 6-pack of Aqua Optima Evolve 60-Day Double Life Filters and have started to use them. Happily, they've produced excellent results immediately and my tea looks wonderful. Even if it stays scum-free for only one month instead of the promised two months these filters will have turned out to be a good buy. A full two month life will make it worth a fifth star!

These items are a small amount cheaper than the originals that we usually buy our Brita filter. They fit fine and I must admit that I can't really tell whether there is any difference in the quality or taste of the water when comparing water previously filtered by the Brita. All I know is that we get through one every month and my wife has not made any comment at all. They do seem to filter the water much faster than the Brita equivalent, which could be a good or a bad thing, but no-one in the family has commented that the quality of the filtered water has deteriorated, so I assume the increased speed of filtering has not effected the filtering. On the basis of my feedback I suppose that therating has to be awarded based on price and they are a few pounds cheaper for a 6 month supply than Brita originals and therefore worthy of the extra star that I gave to them. So five stars it is based upon savings made.

These filters are designed to fit from under the reservoir in Aqua Optima Evolve jugs etc, so they stand about 4mm proud of the bottom of the bit you put the water in.And as they get older, they get a tad slower. I'm sure there's a cliche about water filters not doing something. The easiest thing is to refill the reservoir when it's empty-ish after you've poured water. That's not rocket science.Apart from those rather minor gripes, these are fantastic - and expose how profitable consumables are for other brands . And, unlike some Maxtra-compatibles - here and on the high street - they don't leak charcoal into the filtered water chamber. This six-pack is equivalent to 12 Maxtra filters. For me,there's no going back to the bad value originals. And next time I buy a device - jug or kettle - that takes a filter I'll buy one from Aqua Optima Evolve. That will solve the first niggle.
