This Zyliss Potato and Vegetable Chipper is of mainly plastic construction with the exception of the cutters. In the box apart from the chipper you get two sizes of cutters with matching pusher plates - 7mm and 9mm. The unit which carries a 5 year warranty looks and feels well made and features non-slip rubber feet with rubber inserts on the handle. I couldn't find any indication of whether the unit is dishwasher safe or not.I've used some similar products before and this one feels much more robust than previous versions, in addition, thanks to the long lever handle, less force is required, for example, when chipping potatoes plus there's a palm rest which helps steady the unit. This unit works best with harder/crisper potatoes, carrots, onions, radish and some fruits. The chamber for the the vegetables is better suited to round shapes rather than longer types so you might need to cut down large potatoes etc. before chipping them. The output is attractive and the bigger 9mm cutter is best suited to potato chips. The chipper works well, is easy to clean (but the issue of dishwasher suitability should be cleared up) and has a reasonably compact footprint. In addition, even quite dense vegetables don't need too much physical force to chip thanks to the leverage of the handle. All these sorts of gadgets take up a bit of storage space but this one can be stored upright which occupies very little space. Although, the price tag is reasonably high this is a quality product which feels as though it will last.

It's a quality product and this is reflected in the £32 price tag as at 10th May 2018 and also comes complete with a 5 year warranty, which based on what I have seen so far is unlikely to be needed; I see the main parts of this item lasting a lifetime. Basically Zylis make good products and this item is no exception.Set-up is easy, with a minimum of changeable parts, other than than the frames for cutting different sizes of chips/vegetables. Operation is very simple, which unlike cheaper variants has only one point of leverage, without the rails systems of some models. Making chips is simple, insert the size frame that you require and press down. It renders a potato to chips very quickly. In terms of stability, the base grips work surfaces very firmly and so far has not slipped in use, be it on a glass or wooden surface. I have also experimented with carrot batons: you need a little practice, but you can make them, so cucumber and other vegetables can also be created in uniform shapes.Storage is simple and the item can be laid flat or upright. Cleaning is easy, I wash the main uint and blades in a bowl of soapy water and have also washed the blades and detachable plastic parts in the dishwasher with no adverse effects.Overall a 5 star item, yes there are cheaper models available, but if you try them and this item, despite the price, this is the item that I would choose every time.

this cutter works extremely well on potatoes and on softer things like cooked vegetables. it will also work well on hard vegatables like carrots and onions if you cut them inot smaller pieces and run them through one piece at a time ( which actually doesnt take that long ). I have found you can use it to cube them if you collect the chip shaped pieces that come out and run them through again.very good productprobably better than lever based cutters which in my view dont make much sense physically.only thing I would have wanted is a third cutter size for something like potato wedges.those having trouble with the amount of force being too high its probably coz of 2 reasons related to incorrect use1.if something catches on the side as it goes through you are going to need to hammer it to go through. make sure what you want to cut is smaller than the width of the cutter. another important point is to ensure the vegetable goes through at the right angle if the angle is awkward thats when it twists as it goes through. this would obviously increase the force needed to push it through. 90 degree angle orientation is best2 dnt try to cut huge things in one go. if the lever contacts the potato after only 10 degrees of motion relative to its starting point at the top of its motion, obviously its going to get stuckthus with proper use this thing is a joy to usedefinitely recommend

The Zyliss chopper is a big beast, so do review the dimensions before ordering because it takes up a decent wedge of drawer space. This big contraption is well thought through, though, with non-slippy base, soft-touch ergonomics on the contact points and tough metal parts where the action happens. The rest of the unit is made from hard plastic, and this seems strong enough to cope. The chipper has two inserts - one for chips (although more like French fries, so lovers of fat chips will not be well served here), and another for even thinner fries (better suited to cutting veg). Both work well.I only take a star off for the relatively high price for what is a single-purpose device, which does takes up a lot of space. It works well, and it is quicker and more consistent than using a knife, so if you make a lot of home-cooked chips, you might find it good value. Of course, you can use it chop other veg, too, which is good for salads, but on the whole, I can't see us using it for anything other than potatoes. For that reason, I think it's slightly over-priced.

Good solid plastic chipper.Had one like this for a year which broke, as all plastic devices under stress will do of course. This does seem a much tougher unit, much valued. There is no chamber to drop vegetables in, just a small socket under the handle. This will take a standard potato and the aseof slicing it to the the large over handle is super impressive, my wife says it is the best chipper yet!Very easy to push down and chip.Vegetables have to be cut into the right sized chunks first, but will do spuds and sweet potatoes easily. It does have non-slip feet and the blades are in two sizes, they come out when the handle is raised.Soak them in soapy water after use to remove the starch.

We make a lot of home made chips in our household which we cook in the actifry. It has always been a bit laborious cutting the potatoes carefully into chips so I was keen to try this gadget. It comes with two different size cutters. Both work well. I generally cut the potato in half before putting t in the device. It is then a simple push down of the handle and you have very precise looking chips!!I think it’s brilliant. I didn’t think it would be this good. But it makes everything so easy. The gadget is easily washed and I don’t think I would want to go back to cutting chips by hand again having used this.Would definitely recommend.

While you are limited to the length of a potato you can insert, this is the best chipper I've found so far. You must push the potato through in one fell swoop, otherwise you may find yourself jammed. Don't hesitate, just push with all your might all at once and follow through and it'll work like a charm. I cut my potatoes in half lengthwise. And yes, they are as skinny as McDonald's fries. I do wish I could make the chops longer, but given its design, the longest chip you can make is maybe 2.5 inches or so. Nothing beats a steel wall mounted chipper, but those are expensive and hard to find. This does the trick at a reasonable price.

This is a chunky beast but it makes light work of chipping vegetables. If you have room in your kitchen cupboard and you chip veg regularly then this is well worth it.It is easy to clean with the chipping parts being easily removable and then they can be easily washed or put in the dishwasher. The hand part is easily wiped clean and doesn't need much to be cleaned. The handle is strong and feels very robust.I've only tried it with potato so far but I'll be trying it with other veg. I'm already planning chipped courgette and chipped butternut squash. It comes with two different sized chipping attachments.

I’ve recently been getting into steamed beetroots lately (and raw, which seem a bit sweeter) as a health for and this chipper is brilliant for effortlessly cutting through these. It comes with 2 interchangeable sets of blades for slightly different sized chips but the only thing I’d raise as a point to note (not even a ‘concern’ is that the ‘arc’ of the pusher is reflected in the chips; buy that I mean that as the ‘push’ section swings down in an arc (instead pressing the veg in a straight line) the strips also have this arc… no big deal really, just that I didn’t realise this would happen.

Zyliss is always about quality, and this is another example of it.There's perhaps nothing very technical about a potato chipper, but the design of this has real strengths: the cutting grid is not square right to the edge, but allows for wider slices at the edges. This means that unlike my current chipper, you don't end up with hundreds of tiny pieces of potato which have to be removed by hand before frying (or they quickly blacken and mar the taste)The downside is that it only takes medium sized potatoes, and the all plastic design is relatively bulky

Before I start remember THE BLADES ARE VERY SHARP I cut my finger just getting the spare blade out of the box. Zyliss are a well know company and this feels like a quality product easy to use easy to clean, I used the dishwasher even though it does not mention if you can or not but at ££££,s it should . Cuts everything into uniform size holds its position on the work surface and stores easily , I've kept mine in the box. Really pleased with this .

Just arrived, first use absolutely fantastic! Quite a lot of pressure is needed to cut the potato, but a couple bangs on the handle and the whole process is done! Super quick and am going to save so much time!! Yet to try the french fry cutter, but so far super impressed. I was very doubtful and didn’t have faith in the product due to reviews but this is super fantastic! Would recommend. Even my daughter was impressed

I'm not a frequent chip fryer so this is actually of limited utility to me for the core purpose, but it does a great job. It's not too heavy and also not flimsy. It's sufficiently robust and does its job with ease. You get a couple of blades and pushers that you use depending on size. It's easy to use and not a bother to clean. It takes up a fair bit of room so you might want to have some free space in your kitchen.

As a family of 4 we eat quite a few homemade chips. This chipper has reduced the time taken in making enough chips for us all. Slicing potatoes with a knife is now in the past, just pop them in the opening and press down the handle. Chips made and ready for soaking before cooking. We tried this on a carrot and think it will make chopping and slicing of vegetables much quicker.

So well made and does the job on potatoes and other similar density veg. I am perfectly happy with this and would recommend. Zyliss is a long established quality name. However, seen other reviews for this complaining about sweet potatoes ! In my opinion no make of chipper unless industrial, other than a knife itself would be expected to do turnip, swede or sweet potato.
