The Zyliss chopper is well designed and has a pleasant burgundy colour contrasted with off white plastic. It works manually by pressing the top plunger down a number of times, the more you plunge and chop the smaller the particles get. To place food into the chamber you turn it upside down, remove the base lid, put the food in, turn it the right way up, and then start plunging. It sound complicated but it only takes a few seconds. Alternatively the base lid can be left off and you can chop larger quantities of food on a normal kitchen chopping board. There is a knife blade locking device in extended mode. Although it is quick and easy to use, it takes much longer to clean than it does to chop. The capacity is about 100 ml or half the volume of a tea cup, and there are graduation marks on the transparent chamber which indicate millilitre and fractional cup size divisions, useful if a recipe requires precision. As you chop the knife blades automatically rotate so that every part of the food gets evenly chopped. There are also plastic wiper blades which automatically circulate and move particles, lodged against the chamber sides, back towards the middle, where they get chopped up efficiently with everything else.Zyliss state that the chopper is suitable for chopping garlic, tomatoes, chocolate, chilli and herbs. Yes, it works well on these foods, except for the tomatoes, pieces of which tend to get wedged and stuck in the zig-zag knives. In general it is excellent for dry solid foods such as nuts, cereals, spices, seasonings, etc. On vegetables such as beans, peppers, carrots, herbs etc. it is fine. But on wet soft foods it is less effective, and I found chopping apples very difficult because of the tendency for chunks to jam up in the knives, which then do not retract as they should, and require unclogging. If you find chopping onions with a knife leads to painful tears, then this solves the problem because placing the onion in the enclosed chamber prevents the sulphuric acid, released by the sliced onion cells, from reaching the eyes. Great!Cleaning the chopper is not straight forward. All the inner parts tend to get coated with food particles. Zyliss say you can use a brush to clean it, but using a 1 inch new paint brush I found the brush could not clean off and release all the particles wedged in at the apex of the zig-zag knives, and the knives also tended to fray the brush bristles. Cleaning involves taking it apart, folding down the two hinged flaps, and washing, with a brush, in soapy water, rinsing under a tap. You can't safely use a cloth on the razor sharp knives! All this is time consuming and you begin to ask yourself is it worth it?This chopper is fairly small and there is a limit how much you can get into it, but for most seasoning work, most vegetable and fruit chopping, most nuts and cereals, making baby food... it is adequate, just. There is a larger Zyliss model available if you think it too small. It has an advantage over the more conventional chopping on a board with a knife, in that the chopping takes place in a controlled sealed chamber and so chopped bits don't embarrassingly fly off anywhere.Do you need it?... perhaps not, unless onions cause you painful distress. Is it useful?... yes, for small batches. Is it desirable?... yes, it looks OK, and will be fine as an occasional kitchen tool. Is it well made?... not bad, possibly some plastic parts may snap in time? Is it worth it?... yes, just.

Zyliss Zick Mini Food Chopper is a handy little gadget for chopping small portions of ingredients such as parsley, tomato(though personally I would rather cut these more finely myself as this machine will cut them roughly), nuts, garlic etc. I do like the Zyliss for cutting herbs etc. as the chopper is supplied with a little cup which holds the herbs together without spillage and the finer I want the herbs etc. cut I only have to press the gadget for a longer length of time. I actually find the Zyliss Mini Food Chopper very easy to use and with the zig zag shaped blade, it is very easy to get finely chopped ingredients in a very short period of time with very little work from me.Why I like touse the Zyliss Zick Mini Food Chopper is mainly because it provides good results without any mess and with the little cup which is also see through I can see how fine or coarse the food I am chopping actually is. I find the Food Chopper very easy to wash as it is very easy to rinse through the actual blades as I find the top very easy to take apart though I am very careful with the actual blade as it is very sharp. I would recommend for you to use a brush to clean the blade as this would be much safer. The actual putting the blade and chopper back together can be a bit awkward though once inserted the actual chopper is easy to actually operate. The one main bonus I prefer to use the Zyliss Zick Mini Food Chopper takes very little force to press down the zig zag blade and with everything being enclosed I am not going to cut my fingers due to medical problems I am so pleased it takes light handed force to press the blades down no matter what I am chopping though the more tougher vegetables e.g. onions I find chopping these by pressing the Zyliss Zick Mini Food Chopper directly unto the chopping board, without using the cup which is attached to the actual chopper this advice is similar for larger foods. I find this can be done quickly and easily and as long as I take care there is very little mess. This is so much easier for me than using a knife as it seems to take less force to press the Zyliss Chopper down rather than a knife also I can chop the food such as onions a lot quicker though it is a rougher cut compared to being more directly cutting the food with a knife. The actual food chopper takes very little space to store and as it can be used for cutting small portions of ingredients i consider this to be a great little gadget.I am happy to recommend the Zyliss Zick Mini Food Chopper to anyone who wants a device to chop small portions of food quickly and tidily without any fuss.

Having had similar tool in the past, that did not work too well, I haven't expected much but I was positively surprised how good it is! It does the job and has simple, pretty design and the push button is nice and smooth in touch.WHAT IS IT FORThe chopper can be used in two ways, with the lid on or off.To chop little, dry things such as nuts, chocolate etc. or even herbs the grey lid can stay on and later the chopper can be opened with the clear part still attached so it works like a container. I really like it for this reason as chopping dark chocolate on a chopping board or trying to chop evenly running away nuts was always my nightmare (!)Or it can be used without the lid on the chopping board for bigger items...chillies, onion etc. In both cases it worked really well. The only thing I found difficult to chop were some soft / watery veggies such as tomatoes and cucumbers... plus the mini chopper is a bit too small for that anyway with only 75 ml capacity, there is bigger Zyliss chopper on the market designed for these.EASE OF WASHINGThe chopper is made out of only 4 parts:- main part with push button,- grey lid,- transparent cover/container with measurements,- red (white on the picture) piece "wiper blades" that rotates and removes bits from sides of the container. The chopper opens very easy and can be washed within seconds, even washing within the blades in relatively straightforward.

This is a neat little manual food chopper - which for me will almost solely be used for chopping small quantities of nuts, as when I use my food processor, I find it difficult to chop small quantities to the size I want without overchopping and when I chop by hand, bits ping off in all directions. This chopper has a small chopping cup, with measures of 25, 50 and 75ml on one side or 1/10, 1/5 or 1/3 cup on the other side, which is useful if your recipe calls for a volume of chopped nuts (or other ingredient). You don't have to use the cup - you can just use this straight onto a chopping board, but I like using the cup and keeping the chopped contents contained. The chopper is easy to use, pushing downwards on the rubber top, it is a bit smaller than the palm of my hand and whilst it is easy enough to push down with one hand, it feels very natural with one hand on top of the other to push down in a regular rhythm and with the zigzag blade, it chops quickly and easily, wiping any bits left on the blade off as you release the pressure and the top pops back up.It is easy to use and fairly easy to clean - although I found that the wiper blade a little tricky to reinsert after washing, but once you know how it fits, it's just a case of getting it in the right position to lock it back in place. This is a useful gadget, perhaps not a kitchen essential, but useful nonetheless.

This product comes complete with an inlay card of instructions which are pretty much fool proof, well illustrated and easy to understand the explain all the component parts of the device.Anyone cooking with garlic, herbs, nuts etc. would find this very useful as a speedy, convenient alternative to using kitchen knives and chopping boards. Since the food being chopped up in contained within the chamber of the machine it doesnt scatter at all and can be added to whatever recipe it is being used for easily afterwards with minimal mess to the actual work surface. It has safety features including a safety lock and the winged lower body allows for easy and thorough cleaning. It is manually operated, you press down upon the plunger to deploy the blades and cut up the ingredients in the chamber, although it does not require a lot of strength to do so and the alternative of using a knife will require strength and dexterity in any case.So far use has not proven to present any especial problems such as smaller pieces of food becoming lodged higher up in the mechanisms preventing cleaning or making rusting or wear and tear more likely. Recommended.

This product works well – it is incredibly simple to use: just put what you want chopped into the container at the button, push downward on the plunger and the zigzag blade chops quickly while the mechanism rotates around each time you push.THE GOOD- Easy to use as described above- Fairly easy to clean – the container is easy to remove and windows in front of the blade open- Can also chop without the container directly on to a chopping board (useful for slightly larger items)THE BAD- Chopping works considerably better on small and hard food (such as nuts). I have used it to chop softer foods like cheese and tomatoes with more mixed results- I find the device itself to be fairly large, especially considering the container is fairly small- The device is by no means a ‘kitchen essential’ and is fairly expensive for what it doesThis is a nice product which is handy to have around the kitchen and may save a few minutes of chopping here and there. I would recommend this to others however I very much doubt it will change your life in any major way.

Like my other Zyliss products this mini chopper is well designed and well made – but perhaps not quite as useful as some of the other kitchen items I have by the brand. It is very good for chopping nuts – so if you like some sprinkled on your ice-cream then this is an easy and mess-free way to do it. If you like garlic chopped rather than pressed then again this chopper is ideal. Other things I have used it for are chopping spring onions for salads, and chillies for curries and con carnes. The disadvantage is the size of the bowl – it is no good for any sort of quantity chopping; however, the chopping mechanism can be used without the bowl for chopping directly onto a chopping board and this is how I use it mainly. The Zyliss mini chopper is very good for doing a certain few things and if they are things you do then this is a good value tool – for most cooks just picking up a knife will be good enough and less hassle cleaning afterwards. The chopper is dishwasher-safe but is still a bit of a faff to clean.

Stands 17 cm high when engages, strong plastic, used it to chop almonds first, did the job perfectly and the nuts didn't fly across the kitchen, which they do if you use a knife on a chopping board! The blades rotate when chopping so the nuts (or whatever you're using) are chopped all over, not just in one place, which is better than most mini-choppers.Has a detachable plastic bottom where the choppings end-up.The blades sit inside the center in a WM shape and the plastic casing opens outwards from left and right. There is red, plastic casing that covers the blades....Watch out the blades are REALLY sharp...so be careful when cleaning it!When reassembling, make sure the red blades-cover is high up in the casing as it sits just 1/2cm below the blades. All sections clip to each other well and when reassembled if you push the lid down and turn clockwise it stands at 14cm high so it takes up less counter space. It's not big enough to chop apples, or fruit, this is a SMALL chopper.Does the job:)

Hand powered chopper - with rotating blades powered by pressing on the top. Great for small items - herbs, spices, nuts, garlic etc. This is a very neat device - and easy to use. Shove the stuff in, press the top down - and there you are.Looks very robust - and has very few parts, so is easy to clean - and not much to break!I do have a powered chopper/slicer - but that can be a bit of a faff to use for one or two small things - so this little chopper will be very useful. Especially garlic - we seem to use a lot of garlic in our kitchen (the upside being that there very few vampires around - the downside being... cough, cough)Also very handy if you were on a camping holiday without the luxury of electricity - but wanted to do you own cooking.

I like this non electric chopper as I get a great feeling of achieving something each time I press down and hear the blades moving and cutting/chopping. I have had one of these before but not as good quality and always intended buying a new one but somehow never got around to it. Looking back I am sure the design of this is similar to the one I had for years. The construction is very good indeed and it does not feel cheap in any way. This is a smaller model so ideal for smaller amounts of chopping. If you want to do bowls full then you would do well to consider a bigger version.I do remember that keeping these little machines clean could be fiddly but this comes apart easily and can be cleanedquickly.Price wise fine for a well made product.

Neat little kitchen near-essential. About the size of a tall water glass and with a small but useful capacity: four shallots, a handful of nuts, six or seven cloves of garlic (should you ever need such an amount!)It's ideal for fine chopping of those fiddly little ingredients, especially nuts. Using it to chop a clove or two of garlic is great because it's very even and fine, releasing lots of the flavour without transferring intense garlic smell onto your fingers. I've found it less successful with herbs but then those are pretty easy to chop manually.Cleans very easily with a neat little hinged door system that opens it all up quickly to allow easy rinsing.

I'm left-handed and had no problem gripping & operating this chopping device; I thought that it was more effortless compared to chopping with a knife.I have various electric choppers and other kitchen gadgets, but would have to unplug another appliance, get it out of the cupboard, use it, put it back away, and replug the original appliance back in every time I wanted to use them. Not a huge trauma or anything, but it added more time to meal preparation compared to grabbing a regular knife from the cutlery drawer; so I do prefer this for quick, everyday-type chopping e.g. chopping onions for a chilli.

This is a super handy alternative to chopping or using a big food processor. It's really handy for quick little things- like quickly chopping a few different items for an individual omelette. I found it so quick to chop an onion. I did find it harder on carrots though as a few of the chunks of carrot seemed to get a bit stuck. It was easy to clean and reassemble. I certainly would prefer to use this for small quantities over a paring knife now- so really for the cost it's a great little buy, which takes up little space and requires no plug and cable. What's not to like really?

This is a mini chopping unit. I have a larger similar one from OXO so it was interesting to compare.+: small, very easy to clean and easy to use, owing to the way it pops open and is designed.-: quite a small chopping area means you are limited to what you can do in one go. Not a unit for chopping loads of onion or peppers but fine for a single item.Overall works well and has some nice touches. It is small though, so if you're planning on chopping loads of vegetables, I would consider a bigger unit. If not, recommended.

5.9.2015

works fine but it is small... I should have checked the dimensions first so this is my fault, but it's so small it's difficult to clean the blades and you cannot chop too much at the same time, which means the whole task takes longer than with a bigger one. practical design though and works fine so I can't complain, just wish I had gone for a bigger one.
