My mother has had one of these for many many years. I have previously attempted to replicate one of her recipes to make a green bean stew however the beans were crunchy and stringy. The beans are sometimes too thick or too old therefore they become tough and stringy. This is the perfect little device to prepare the beans properly to overcome the texture.- It lasts for years and years- Strings the beans to get rid of the unchewable irritating bit- Reduces the cooking time of the green beans by slitting them into slices as well as allowing them to become as tender as possible- Easy to clean- Comes with an extremely sharp top blade to cut tips and ends as you do not want them in your food- Bladesare extremely sharp and does not require effort to push the beans throughMy suggestion is if you are using relatively younger, thinner beans you have to check that you're putting in the actual slices with the flesh, not the ones with just the skin and the string. Is a must have tool to make a better, tender green bean dish. Recommended to everyone. Can not go wrong with this brand.

This type of bean slicer is probably the best there is on the market for doing runner beans, they're much better than the small, boxy shaped slicers. The blades inside the housing aren't flimsy and cut sharply through the bean. There's a blade for topping and tailing at one end, although I usually pop off the stem end to strip out any fibrous 'spine' first.Average sized, crisp and fresh runner beans get sliced through fast without jamming, but beans that are a bit older, bigger or softer can get stuck. It can't work well if the beans are over-sized or 'beany' and they do need to be pretty straight, for best results.I'd have liked the cutting grille to have been just a fraction bigger, but otherwise, this is a very useful slicer. These bean slicers live in my gadget drawer and come out every year at runner bean time - they've lasted years and are still doing a really good job.

This is an essential little gadget to have in your kitchen draw if you love runner beans like I do. It will easily slice your beans into long thin strips while at the same time removing the stringy side pieces. You can then cut them into shorter pieces for cooking or blanching for freezing. It has an integrated blade at the end but I rarely use this. It does struggle with larger, older beans which have got tough but these are probably best left unused anyway. It has been a God send in the summer when my bean harvest is in full swing and I'm filling the freezer. The gripping mechanism is easily removed for cleaning and the blades have remained sharp after many many uses.I just find this so useful and very easy to use.

I couldn't work out how it worked but just assumed it must - and it does. It is really for fairly fresh beans of the size most people prefer (small to average). Big beans won't go through it but that isn't really a problem since big beans need deeper cutting to get rid of the strings anyway. An excellent product that strings and shreds beans quickly and easily (into long strips very good for steaming). Wish I had had one years ago. The end trimmer at the top is not as convenient as a separate sharp knife but very useful for just a few beans or when you find a bean you missed topping and tailing. The whole thing generally is well designed and well made.

Well this little gadget speeds through stringing and slicing in one go. You have a blade at the end to top and tail your runner bean. All you need to do then is push the bean through the middle. This gadget will string the sides and shread your beans in one go. The stringing side bits are keep separate from your sliced beans. I can now whizz through a pile of beans very quickly. I can honestly say that it's life changing for me. So easy to use and a lot less of the bean is wasted. I always took too much of the side of the bean when using a knife.the two pieces at the side in the photo is the unwanted stringy bits I hope you found my review helpful

This little bean slice is excellent! Admittedly I am comparing it to what can only be described as a family heirloom, but we are really impressed. The gadget is ok to hold, even after a bucket of beans, the blades are incredibly sharp (definitely not something the children could help with) and the string remover is an added bonus. Excellent value for money, we've even said that we wouldn't mind buying one each year if the blades blunt by the end of the season. My husband says "It is a joy to use!". The only improvement we could suggest is the provision of a little case because of the blades, but that would push the price up a little.

I've had my runner bean slicer for years and must have accidentally thrown it out with the 'trimmings' recently, so am ordering another one. I'm not even bothering trying to slice my runner beans at the moment because it takes way too long without my lovely little gadget. I can trim a pile of runner beans in no time at all with this and as for the reviews stating it won't cut tougher beans. If the beans don't go through this slicer, then they are discarded because there is nothing worse than a tough, stringy bean in your dinner to ruin the whole portion. I can't stand untrimmed edges either. My beans have to melt in the mouth.

A very simple and effective tool. It took me a few goes to work out that the beans had to go into it in a specific direction, but once I did it produces perfect sliced runner beans every time. I have found with bigger, wider beans that it is best to push them through gently rather than pull, as they then can break. I would also add that I prefer to use a knife for topping and tailing the beans first - it's just quicker and easier. I lent mine to someone overnight when I gave them some beans and they were so impressed they immediately ordered two for themselves and another friend.

I was afraid it wouldn't do runner beans, as the picture shows round french beans, but there is a spring adjuster which allows wider beans to fit. I find quite large runners (up to 2 cms wide) go through easily, as long as the seeds inside are not over-large.You need to insert them sideways if you want the strings to exit separately at the sides; however with large beans one side is more effective than the other, so experiment with which way to insert the bean to take more away from the stringiest side!I think it is a brilliant gadget, fun to use and good value.

This bean stringer is simply a must have and is probably the best I have owned. It is easy to use, unlike some other variants, and can string larger beans with ease. If a bean IS too large to fit this particular stringer, then the bean is simply overgrown and will probably be fibrous and chewy. I have made a point of this, as some reviewers have mentioned that larger beans will not fit. I have had no problems stringing larger beans with this product, although it will not cut beans that have been left to grow far too long. I still highly recommend this stringer.

Well, having spent a few frustrating weeks looking round all the shops in town someone said "Amazon is where I got mine from!" So, order it I did and it arrived two days later. Brilliant little tool, proven over many years, it makes light work of the task. We love runner beans and had not been having them as for some reason our supermarket has not been doing the prepacked cut ones this season. But thanks to the Krisk bean slicer all that is now in the past, and great value also at just £4! Thanks Amazon, you've saved our Sunday roasts!

One of the sharpest bean slicers I've had but the string remover only works properly with straight beans. The width of the bean has to be watched as well as the hole for the bean to go through is a little on the small side. I also have concerns over the end cutter as this is a really sharp blade with no cover and if a child got their finger caught in the blade it could cause serious injury. Should have had a retractable cover. It says that it is made in Australia which makes me wonder why we can't make something like this in the UK?

Had one of these in the 80's as I used to grow and freeze lots of runners, but it got lost over the years. I'm now growing runner beans again so searched for another slicer and was glad to find one, and astonished to see it was made in Australia, as was my first one! Works a treat and is a real labour saver. It won't do wide beans, but they are usually tough anyway. I've read some reviews with people complaining that they've broken them on the first use. As with everything, you need to treat it with a little respect!.

This product makes stringing & slicing runner beans a doddle. I've used other beans slicers and the job is long and laborious, & they never actually do a great job as you have to trim & slice the sides off the beans before running them through the slicers. The Krisk bean slicer does everything with a blade at the top to top & tail the beans before running them through the sharp slicer, which strings them as you slice, no need to have an knife handy & keep putting down one thing & picking up another to finish the job.

For many years my family have used a "Krisk bean slicer" and at last we have found a outlet that enables us to purchase three more of these most useful kitchen tools, one each for our son , daughter and an aunt, as they have always brought their runner beans to our kitchen and used our slicer. This simple to use tool not only slices the beans, but also cuts off the outer hard ridge and seperates this from the centre cuts. The resulting sliced bean is ready to cook and eat without any further preeration
