I use a lot of garlic, I love the stuff, but I have to confess that for the last year or so I've been using the stuff in a tube. It's okay though not quite as good as the fresh stuff - but it's very convenient and it felt less wasteful than using my garlic crusher which always had bits left inside that I couldn't get out and I seemed to spend an age peeling each fiddly clove. But not any more...!This crusher works in the same way as most, put your garlic clove in the hopper and press to crush the garlic through the perforations. Where this differs however is that the part which presses into the garlic isn't smooth, it has spikes to press the garlic through the holes of the crusher. This means that you don't have to peel the garlic cloves, you simply drop them in and as you crush the garlic is forced through the holes in the skin - all you have to do then is pull the skin out in one.If the skin seems a bit stuck then it's not a problem as the handle of the crusher contains a push out plastic cleaning device which fits into the holes of the crusher to push any remaining garlic out and also lifts and garlic skin. The cleaner then clips back into the handle after use. It might seem a bit gimmicky but it really does work and cleaning this is incredibly easy - a rinse under water and a quick prod with the plastic cleaner removes any bits which are left behind. With my old garlic crusher I had to wash it and then once dry tap it to knock out any bits left behind so I appreciate the easy-clean feature of the Zyliss 3. This is a nice looking garlic crusher (not that it really matters) and feels robust in the hand, I'm sure this will give me many years of service. Note: The product description says this is dishwasher safe but the packaging recommends hand washing, given that this is so easy to clean I can't see that being an issue. In a nutshell: A solid feeling garlic crusher which presses garlic efficiently with very little waste left behind. The attached cleaning device makes this a doddle to keep clean ready for future use.

Zyliss No Need To Peel Susi 3 Garlic PressLove this fantastic garlic press! I cook with an awful lot of garlic and, when cooking for myself, just used to cut it up into rough chunks; however, when guests came round, I did notice they'd sometimes pick out the chunks which I took as a bit of a hint! The first garlic crusher I bought (£4 from a supermarket) was quickly returned as not up to the job: the handles just flexed when I tried to crush the garlic. The second one (from a specialist kitchenware shop) was also returned because, although the arms were strong, the pressing plate was flat and so just smooshed the garlic against the grate. This Zyliss one, with its sturdy arms and knobbly pressing plate is perfect. In fact, the first time I used it - popped in a couple of unpeeled pieces and pressed - the crushed garlic shot out into the air! I do not know where it ended up but, ever since, I've been careful to point the crusher downwards onto a chopping board or bowl.Using the garlic press is simplicity itself: just put in some small or one big garlic clove, align the pressing plate then squeeze the handles together and out comes crushed garlic. Hook out the clove skins with a fork then repeat. When finished, rinse out the pressing chamber then get out the little bits using the provided tool: press the tool out from the handle, carefully align the plastic bristles then push. The one note of caution with this product is you do have to be careful with cleaning tool: the first time I used it, I didn't check to see all the plastic bristles were lined up and one ended up getting bent so now needs to be pushed into place each time it's used.I paid £11.99 for the garlic press and it was money well-spent.

I have had the older version of this garlic press for over twelve years and to be honest, there isn't a huge difference in this model which also crushes garlic without the need to remove the skin first. The compartment holding the garlic cloves is larger in this new press and can easily hold three bulbs compared to two large ones in the older model. The new model has the same swinging presser attached to the handle as the old version. The handle is where the biggest change is between the two models - the new one is chunky and curved and does feel more comfortable to handle. However, perhaps because of the new shape of the handle, I found it more difficult to use one hand when squeezing garlic with the new model,my hand span just wasn't wide enough even though I have quite large hands for a female. Solution is to use one or two cloves of garlic only, or to use both hands if squeezing three or more. The new model has an improved garlic skin remover, it is now built into the handle and released with a press of a button but to be honest, I never used the old one anyway, I found it much quicker to scoop the skins out with my nail or with the end of a teaspoon. When I first bought the early version of Susi I thought it was expensive but after years of heavy use - bunged in the dishwasher about three times a week and dropped numerous times - it was good value for money and I can vouch for the quality of this Swiss product. However, if you have the earlier version of this presser, I don't think that the small changes warrant buying this new one.

Well I have used this press a couple of times so far and I have been very impressed. I have gone to the trouble of peeling the garlic cloves before crushing them and 99.5% of the garlic goes through the holes, and none squeezed round the sides of the plunger (unlike my old garlic press). I haven't yet even needed to use the supply cleaning brush as any residue rinsed right out, as I cleaned it immediately after use. At this point I am happy to say that it is the best garlic press that I have ever used, and I reckon that I must have had about 6 or 7 different ones in the past. Let's hope it lasts.Update: Well I have been using this press for a couple of months now, and although still happy with its performance,I have noticed a couple of things which have led me to knock one star off the rating. Firstly, if crushing the garlic without peeling first (as described in the description), it really can only handle one clove at a time. If you put two or more unpeeled cloves in, then it not only becomes difficult to crush, but also the skins get in the way and force the pulp around the sides of the plunger. Secondly, the supplied tool for cleaning the press is a poor quality plastic that easily deforms. If you don't have it lined up with all the holes correctly the teeth get bent out of shape and do not return to their original position. You then have to get a fingernail or other tool to bend the deformed teeth back. I do not think it will be long before the fatigued plastic snaps and I start losing teeth from the tool.

We all love garlic. Be it in butter, mayo or anything cooked it generally has garlic in it. We can't get enough of it - until the garlic crusher we had 'went missing'. Hmm. Anyway i bought a cheap Argos thing which was rubbish and had to cope with it for over a year before i got sick of it.Googling a garlic crusher shows how sad i have become now. Should it really be that important? Well have i mentioned that we love garlic?Amongst all of the garlic crushers and presses that i saw reviewed on Amazon i decided to choose this.. partially because of the design and partly from common sense. You put a clove of garlic in it (obviously), and squeeze. Now what's interesting here and rather important compared to my crummy one are the following:1)The 'press' which pushes the garlic down contains little spikes which go through the holes that the garlic goes in so that very little is left behind2) the shape of the press plate is perfectly sized so that garlic doesn't simply escape up the sides and out the top.I tried this with a nice large Chinese clove of garlic. It was quite a surprise when a shower of garlic was projected about a foot in front of it. All that was left was the peel and a tiny remnant of garlic 'juice' which i liberated. So if you're out and about in my general area and someone smells obscenely of garlic.. it may just be me, or one of the other members of the family.Highly recommended for garlic addicts

I was really impressed with the Susi 3 garlic press, firstly with the simple, attractive and solid design of it. With the fact that the little brush is nicely tucked on the inside of the handle, not interfering with its performance and neither coming loose for no reason. When it is time to use it, all it takes is pressing on it from the top side, it comes loose. It was amazing how easy it was to extract all the bits of garlic that always get stuck in the holes and are usually very fiddly to remove. With this, it was smooth sailing and very quick to clean it. The only draw back I found was the fact that the brush is orientated, meaning you can only use it in one position.Off course I got it the wrong way around the first time I used (and a few more over the following uses). It would have been great if the design of the press holes and the brush had been made so that it was indifferent either way you fitted it. It is not a major thing but I'm a bit concerned that with time I'll eventually bend and break the little pins on the brush and then have to get back at using a toothpick or a knife to remove the garlic from the press like I had to do on my old one. Washing it was a breeze, the three pins in the back of the brush are super handy and allowed me to clean it easy and quickly. I would very much recommend the use of this garlic press.

This is made from quality metal and has a robust feel and look. There is an accompanying little blue plastic tool which sits inside it and this is removable, and is used to push out and then pick up the garlic skin. This adds to the usefulness of this device. To use it, take a clove of garlic that you have taken from the whole garlic, no need to peel, that is the point of this. Then pop it in the device close and press hard. Your garlic clove contents will emerge through the holes of the device. Repeat adding more cloves as needed. Using the blue plastic tool, then press the rectangular pronged section of this into the underside of the metal press, and then using the other end of the tool (the 3 pronged end),pick up the garlic skin and dispose of it. A light wash under the tap and you are done.I found the shape of this to be near perfect, and it did not dig into my hand at all, but it could have had either a longer handle for greater leverage or the bowl of the press could have been inverted so there was a smaller surface area of garlic clove to press through it, thus I would not recommend this press for those who are slightly weak handed.I like this garlic press very much and it would be ideal for those who want a simple garlic press that they can rely on and that is quick and easy to use.

The Susi 3 garlic press makes garlic preparation a much less time consuming task and virtually eliminates any need to have jars of prepared garlic in the fridge.I top and tail each clove of garlic but don't peel it and the press will easily accommodate three or more large cloves at each pass. The pressing process is easy (as long as your garlic is reasonably fresh) and the press itself straightforward to clean - I have owned a Susi 2 for a few years and successfully used the end of a spoon to lift residue from the hopper; the Susi 3 incorporates its own cleaner to make the task even easier (although the end of a spoon will probably still be faster).Whilst hand washing is recommended it isdishwasher safe; my Susi 2 has been through the dishwasher countless times over the last three/four years and always comes out like new. The Susi 3 is made of the same matt metal so should similarly withstand the rigours of the dishwasher without any adverse effects.I love gadgets and have tried many over the years that state they make certain tasks easier, although they don't always live up to their claims. The Susi 3 (as well as the earlier model 2) both make the task of garlic preparation much easier and without leaving you with a messy gadget that is difficult to clean afterwards.

This is a beautifully made piece of kitchen equipment, strong and sturdy and looks as if it will last a lifetime. Which is good as I've twice broken garlic presses. The Susi 3 is marketed as a 'no need to peel' garlic press. This wasn't quite my experience.I left the skin on the cloves I crushed and found that a lot of the crushed garlic clung tenaciously to it. The crushing plate isn't flat as in conventional crushers but spiked.Rather than being a removable U shaped piece, as is the norm, the hopper base is part of the handle. There is a very clever and stylish cleaning implement that stores neatly into the handle. These are such neat innovations that a claim that the skin needn't be removedfrom cloves perhaps wasn't necessary.I have a neat little silicone sleeve that quickly removes garlic skins from cloves when they are rubbed in it and I'll continue to use that. Doing that will be a lot quicker than picking skins out of the hopper with half the clove wasted. The fact that there is no U shaped hopper to get lost in the kitchen drawer is a great bonus, as is the neat little cleaning 'brush'. This makes a really top-class addition to the kitchen

This new model Zyliss Susi 3 is the RollsRoyce of garlic pressers!I have had the susi 2 model for many years so can happily do a comparison .This new model is hugely improved.Firstly it's now very comfortable to hold having been ergonomically reshaped to fit snugly in the hand. It is slightly lighter in weight and has a larger compartment to take larger garlic cloves.Best of all this model has a built-in cleaning tool. You simply push out the blue plastic tool from the top side. It pops out and in your hand is the perfect means for cleaning out the sticky debris that is left behind after squeezing the cloves of garlic. Even better the tool also has plastic bristles that fit into the holes of the presser part and push out any mess left in there.Cleaning it out is now something quick and easy. The blurb says this can be put in the dishwasher, but on the packaging it says Handwashing is recommended. Having messed up Susi 2 in the dishwasher I am not going to risk it. (Susi 2 now has a peeling top coating and it looks a mess).I highly recommend the Susi 3.

Ive avoided buying a garlic press for the longest time because they all seemed like such a faff, peel garlic, chop bottom off garlic, press garlic, scrape tiny amount of garlic not stuck in press off of press...... but i gave in and bought this one esp as it said you dont have to peel the clove first!! I was a tad sceptical i'll be honest, but it arrived the day after i ordered it (less than 24 hours after i ordered it!) and i ripped the packaging off, keen to have a go. i grabbed a clove, shoved it in the press, squeezed it and then had a look......... OH MY GOSH, the only thing left in the press was a thin sheet of garlic skin, nowt else. I am so pleased.Dinner may have been a tad garlickly that night as i was enjoying myself so much, i even made my husband have a go and he was impressed (not bad for a man that doesnt cook at all)It also has an integral brush that sits in the handle with prongs that exactly match the hole pattern on the press so if any garlic gets stuck you can poke it out.So if you want a garlic press that works, buy this one!

It's clunky, it's menacing, it's downright ugly. But once you've used it, you'll find yourself lovingly stroking its ungainly contours and finding an extra comfortable piece of drawer space real estate for it to reside in.It's not really enough to tell you that its press action is unbeatably effective - it's the sheer satisfaction you get out of using it. Really, it has to rank as some kind of therapy. You stick three fat, fully clothed cloves inside and press until that magical squrunch moment when a remarkable amount blasts out the other side (aim it carefully) - but if that weren't enough, just open it, rearrange the garlicky carcasses and you can do it again! And again! Yes,you can every last tiny morsel out, until you open it up and find only a skinny sheet of skin stuck to the press. The integrated cleaning brush makes quick work of sprucing it up, too.Short of seeing Jeremy Clarkson tumble into a manhole filled with french pig slurry, I can't think of many more satisfying experiences it's possible to have in this life with your peel on.

Having read all reviews, positive and negative, I was a bit concerned that I was wasting my money but I am thrilled with my new garlic press!!!!Not only does it work really really well (No need to peel, I put three cloves in and voila, press easy to squeeze, garlic came out easily and only left the empty skins behind - not a load of garlic- in the press), BUT I also found the blue plastic gadget brilliant for cleaning out the empty skins and pushing out any tiny bits of garlic left in the holes. Some reviewers say a press isn't neceessary but to really get the break down of cells required to release all the flavour does require a good bit of mashing, not just fine slicing or to be bashed with the side of a knife blade so I would definitely go ahead and buy one....I NEVER review items as I am a bit lazy but this is so good I had to!!! If it breakes I will report back but so far I love it. And what a good price too - I also looked at one that cost £35 but it got some terrible reviews too so I went with this one and very glad I am too.

I love garlic and I use a lot of it. I also own a lot of garlic presses because I loathe having to peel garlic cloves and I have spent much time and money trying to find a press that will do this job for me. So far, I have not had much success with the result that my thumb nails are glossy and fragrant with garlic oil.Does the Zyliss Susi 3 Garlic Press do the business? So far, yes, it does and the handy cleaning tool is well designed and is stored neatly and firmly within the press. (The only other press I had with a cleaning tool became separated from it early on and I never found it again.)I have two quibbles about this garlic press: firstly the cleaning tool sometimes needs help from a handy thumb nail to oik the garlic skin out of the press (so,I expect my nails will maintain their high gloss and fragrance); and secondly, the price, £14.40, which I thought was a bit high. However, it is well designed and requires little pressure to work efficiently and it looks good. So, not the full five stars, but a well deserved four.

Having owned the previous model for over a year (and that took some research to find) I have now tried the updated Susi 3. She is certainly worth having in the kitchen without shadow of doubt! You can now get more garlic in (no need to peel at all) and the cleaning tool now is not only better as it's double ended but it also sits in the handle without slipping out of position like the old one did!You can get a good 4 large cloves of garlic in the hopper and hardly any squeezes up the sides, if you like you can also put ginger in so long as you go with the grain and other bits n bobs too, the build quality is so good I would be pushed to see anyone break it and this is quite possibly why it hasa 5 year manufacturers guarantee! My only gripe would be the handle length not being quite the length I feel it should be. I can't however think of anything else negative about this product as like I say I was very happy with the previous model and this perfects its flaws. The garlic press of all garlic presses!!!
