I remember seeing a friend's mother preparing their runner beans with a little gadget like this when I was a child, in the sixties. My own mum I think used to cut hers into diagonal chunks, and that's the way I have always done it up until now, when I decided to look for a bean cutter like this. Beans straight from the garden, or even picked a day before can be pressed through this gadget and it works very well. Older or stringier beans might cause a problem, but the young and tender ones are fine and they are the ones we want to be eating, after all. Works with climbing (green) beans too, although for thinner ones I would go for the narrow mouth cutter.

This was bought to replace a really ancient "Zipp" slicer which had finally disintegrated. So far we are very pleased with it - the blades are sharp and it does what it's supposed to do.It is slightly different from our old slicer as the blades are at different heights and further apart - and the latter means that most runner beans only go through the central few blades so the slices are perhaps a bit wider than we'd like. However I couldn't find a replacement with a design like our old one, apart from one or two with very poor reviews, so we are happy to have found a decent alternative.

I have deducted one star because the blades could do with being slightly closer together, as small, tender beans slide right through! Also, it is hard to dry. BUT it is just what I wanted - no frills, safe to use, tough and neat to hold and takes up almost no space in the drawer. Oh, what a joy, no cutting my nails by mistake and a board to wash, just push the bean down onto the blades and then pull it through from the bottom! You can't go wrong unless you try to fish bits out with your fingers!!

We regard a bean slicer as an essential piece of kitchen equipment and when ours went missing immediately turned to Amazon. Within a few days two replacements had been recieved. The item selected was unavailable but a suitable replacement was sent to us thus saving further delay. I do not know why but runner beans sliced by hand just do not taste the same. We now have a spare slicer tucked away to ensure that we continue to enjoy our seasonal treat. Just hope I can remember when I put it!!!!

This makes slicing beans fun! The item is really good. It is down to the quality of the beans as to whether or not the item works well, and not the item. I have found it easier to peel the sides with a potato peeler to remove the strings, and then push them through the slicer. If the beans are fresh it's a breeze, otherwise they can get stuck. Sadly we haven't had much luck growing beans this year so hoping to make good use of this great little gadget next year.

Bought this as I remember my Mum in the 80s having one which looked identical. As always I opted for the one sold by Amazon themselves, thus ensuring it was the genuine article and indeed it was. Very sharp and beans slide through no problems at all. I have quite a glut and some have grown a bit big bit they all slice with this ok. Cleaning a doddle, just pop it in the cutlery basket of the dishwasher observing the blades pointing upwards.

Love my runner beans, but a friend who grows them says you only get maximum taste by using a slicer. I thought at this price what is there to lose? Well Im thrilled to bits with it, and yes what an amazing difference it makes to the taste of the beans! Me and hubby fight over who will do the beans now, its a very satisfying sensation. Hope it doesnt blunt as only had it two weeks. Came well on time and well packaged

I have been using a more complex slicer for many years - but somebody borrowed it and broke it!I therefore decided on a simpler one, and this appeared to fit the bill.It is robust, and the blades seem sharp enough - but unfortunately they are spaced too far apart for my personal taste. If you like thinly sliced beans then this may not suit you, but it is perfectly adequate for the job in hand.

My parents had one of these and as a kid I spent many hours slicing beans using a tool just like this one. So, to deal with this summer's glut of runner beans I thought I would get one myself. It's good and sharp and cleans out well enough. The only criticism I have is that the blades are a little far apart resulting in quite a coarse slice. Other than that, it does what you'd expect it to.

I bought this slicer as well as one with narrower blade spacing. I prefer the blade spacing of the other one but the blades in this one are staggered in height and much, much sharper. Beans slice far easier with this bean slicer since the blades are actually sharpened rather than just thin strips. The sliced strips are slightly thicker than I'd like but the ease of use is much better.

Bought as a replacement for a similar slicer which is going on 25 years old but which was a little bent in places from forcing through some tough beans over the last few years. This one has blades of a slightly different design but is even more effective - probably because it's sharper! Very fast delivery and reasonably priced. Can't fault it - simple, effective and it does the job.

Slightly wider mouth, slightly wider slices. Works like a charm on middle aged beans which defeat the older type slicer. The blades are also arranged so the middle blade is further down the chute, the the next two blades slightly less, the the last two blades. so the cutting process is staggered. This makes for a very easy cut, I did not need to cut the ends off the beans.

This bean slicer is fine. The box frame is sturdy and made of very solid plastic. It does not feel flimsy at all as you push on it. Blades are sharp (as my thumb has now proven!) but they are slightly further apart than I would like. This leads to thicker slices of bean than I ideally want. It works well enough, I just wish it produced slightly thinner sliced beans.

This is as decribed a wide mouthed slicer and is certainly very sharp. The only downside is that the width of the slice is wider than I would like as I use this for shredding sping onions as well as beans. However the beans were still fine to eat when sliced more thickly so perhaps it is just what we were used to.

No much report beyond it being well made and that it works well. Cleaning can be a little tricky but I think that that is the nature of the item rather than a fault. I use one that automatically edges beans for the medium size beans and this one for the big beans. Very useful item.
