Having read some of the reviews on here (just after I had placed the order!) I thought that this might be an item that wouldn't live up to the hype and would need returning. We were pleasantly surprised. The base has a suction pad, single lever action, which works very effectively on our marble worktop. Screw on the handle and away you go. We had no problems. Don't push the beans through, let the blades pull them in. and a couple of minutes later we had a dish of sliced runner beans - quite a lot of the beans missed the bowl, but that's just a matter of practice. Cleaning is pretty easy - just unscrew the handle and dip into washing up bowl - the only problem areas are that some of the beanscan get caught in the corner of the blades. Conclusion - does what we wanted and seems to do it well.

It's not as sturdy as I would have liked but it does the job. The suction mechanism is strong, but the weakness I think is the handle and without careful turning it might break; it has certainly bent on a number of occasions, but sprung back. However, for the price and overall I'd buy it again; it's certainly better than the "push through" type slicers, although you have to put up with shorter bean slices as a result. Personally, I prefer that as the slices cook more tenderly and its easier for freezing, but some people like spaghetti length bean slices.

I've had one of these for at least 10 yrs and really rate it if used in the right way for the right beans. Used for ordinary runner beans it slices perfectly but I find that the best way to use it is to attach it using the sucker, horizontally to a very flat non-porous surface, the door of the microwave oven is ideal. Then put a saucepan or largish bowl underneath to catch the slices, feed your beans in and turn the handle - easy peasy. When, if ever, this one wears out or the blades become blunt, I will certainly buy it again.

I've had this slicer for a couple of years now in fact it's on it's third season of bean slicing. For me it does a great job.My only criticism and the reason I have not given the product 5 stars is that the blades are welded to the cutter disc and cannot be replaced. So now having sliced an upright freezer full of beans mine is getting a bit blunt now and I'm considering purchasing a replacement! That said no cut fingers or trimmed nails for two years so I think it's worth it.

I had seen some poor reviews and hesitated about purchasing this bean slicer. I'm glad though that I did buy one as it is simple and easy to use, and it makes slicing runner beans a pleasure (sad I know but maybe I've just got low expectations). It does tend to spray the beans about a bit, so I do the job on a tea tray; that keeps it all in one place. I found that you can also do two beans at a time, yes turbo slicing. Would recommend.

Brilliant little gadget. Wish I'd bought one years ago. Only two problems, that do not detract from its brilliance - unable to contain all the slices - have started to do it on a tray and scoop them up afterwards. Secondly the blades are very sharp - wash using a brush and take care to dry. I cut my thumb through a teatowel when drying it.Really love it. Well made, suction pad works perfectly.

Whilst people had problems with it not sticking to the surface, I found no problems with this at all. It may chuck beans all over the place but if you try turning it a bit slower, you will not have this problem either. It took me about 5 minutes to do enough for a complete weeks dinners so I have given it 5 stars, also because it is extremely easy to clean. A TRULY MARVELLOUS PRODUCT.

amazing. I thought I would have to string them all by hand and then put them through the clutter, but no just take off the tip at the growing and put them through self-feeding. The only drawback is I cannot seem to get the beans to go into a bowl. So I cut them straight onto the work surface and then put them on the steamer. But this is probably me not doing it right :-)

No, it's not perfect - try 95%. To all those complaining about the device spewing beans out, just try doing everythng on a clean work surface (shouldn't we all be doing that anyway?), then gather all together. Just done that. I didn't find it any more a problem than clearing up after any other item of cooking. And doing the beans was really fast!

This does work - I'm presumably not as fussy as to the precise dimensions of the slices as some! You do need to twist a plastic bag round the slicing face to catch the beans (hence only 4 stars) but it's not difficult to do. I have arthritic thumbs and can't use the 'push through' ones at all. this is perfect for what I want.

I find it ideal for slicing runner/flat beans quickly compared with the small hand held slicer I used previously. One of it's advandtages is that the beans don't have perfectly fresh as they do with some of the hand held devices.I thought the unit was very good value for money from Amazon and would highly reccomend it

Ordered through Amazon. A great improvement on the one I had many years ago. Two bean slots so much faster. The suction is activated by a small handle and it really grips perfectly. I am taking great care as the blades are very very sharp so care needs to be taken when washing it. Slices to the perfect thickness.

The easiest runner bean cutter I have encountered - but also the messiest!! I hope to avoid cut fingers and blood but I have yet to devise a method whereby the cut beans end up everywhere apart from in the bowl! I think that the answer may be a bag placed over the circular blade box?

I bought one of these for my mother. She’s thrilled with it. She suffers badly with arthritis in her hands, but she found this slicer easy to use and clean. Good price too. I think I’m back at the top of her Christmas card list again!
