I am a multi tool freak - from Gerber to Leatherman, and everything in between. I used to work in a shop specialising in multi-tools and self defence blades (I don't live in the UK) and I have seen and tried them all. I've bought six and kept two.The two I kept was the Leatherman Wave and this one. But why is the Victorinox better than Leatherman's best?*Better design - hard to describe, but it is a lot easier to use*Better quality - I'm already on my second Wave. They rust, the pliers and screwdrivers lose their shape and free play develops on the pliers*Better size - the Leatherman is just too small (I have size 11 hands)*Better accesories - the Swisstool comes with a nifty socket set which is incredibly user friendly. The Leatherman's has to be purchased seperately, is quite expensive, has to be carried in a seperate pouch and is embarrasingly clumsy*More practical - bigger everything, better layout, more accessible, better selection of tools*Safer - I've cut myself on more than one occasion while using the Leatherman's pliers, because it has sharp edges on the outside. One can use the Victorinox with confidence*The Swisstool has a much bigger and stronger blade than the Leatherman, which is important, because you are probably going to end up using the blade more than anything else*Sturdier pliers. The pliers on the Victorinox are really strong - I have yet to discover the limits of the Swisstool. The Leaterman is a lot flimsier.*Better tactile quality - another hard-to-describe factor, but the Swisstool simply feels a lot better in one's hands*Lifelong guarantee on the Swisstool. You can't beat that. Especially since you'll probably never need it anyway.BUT: The Swisstool is much bigger and heavier than the Wave. So, if you wear a suit and an office job, the Wave might be better for you after all.But I live in Africa, and if I'm flying over or driving through the desert, and I may choose only one multi-tool to take with me, it would be the Victorinox, without a doubt.

For me there are 2 major bits to the Swiss Tool 1: the pliers and the rest. The pliers is the best part and they can handle quite a bit of force - better & stronger than pliers on other multi-tools. There's zero play, the tips are perfectly aligned & the cutters are sharp enough. I did a small electrical job and the pliers were good for removing insulation and cutting thin copper conductors. The other tools are well fashioned also, if not in the same strength league as the pliers. There are several carrying options, incl the pouch: I don't favour an external pouch so I've attached split rings to the tool's lanyard holes and have it in my pocket (with no pouch)and suspended from my belt using paracord which works well. The whole package is built like a tank and is well designed. OK, it's quite heavy but that's because it uses a 'U' shaped channel for each handle and that imparts tremendous strength and inevitably a bit of weight. This tool will last a long, long time. No question about that. I own a number of Victorinox knives and the quality is always impressive. If you're after a multitool then you can do a great deal worse than choose this and the price on Amazon is attractive. It's worth remembering that no matter how well made a multitool is, none will ever be as effective as separate (but, admittedly, bulkier & heavier) tools. If you're OK with that then this Swiss Tool is a beautifully made item and quite possibly the best multi-tool.

As usual,Victorinox quality shines through. I also own a Leatherman 830685 Charge TTi (directly competing model) which is a beast of a multitool but the Victorinox Swiss Tool X, for me, is in a different league. Both come with a pouch as they are both quite heavy and not really for carrying in pockets.Points in favor of the Victorinox Swiss Tool X:- Build quality is superior to the Leatherman. No scraping when opening blades, no sharp or rough edges where there shouldn't be.- Feels more comfortable in the hand when applying a lot of force.- Lower carbon steel means that the components are less likely to snap if used incorrectly. Also less likely to rust.Points in favor of the Leatherman 830685 Charge TTi:- Has a bit driver and comes with a few popular sized bits. (Victorinox has a fixed Phillips and flat head screwdriver)- High carbon steel means it will keep an edge longer than stainless steel but will need to be kept dry and clean to avoid corrosion.- One-handed blade openingPersonally I prefer the Victorinox, but it depends on what you want the tool for and how you'll be using it.Neither are street legal in the UK due to the blade locking mechanisms used in both. If you are carrying this in public make sure you have a legitimate reason.

In my opinion this is one of the best full size or heavy duty multi tools I know. Cons - the handles are a little squared off and can become uncomfortable on the hand during long usage, and the stainless finish may be a little slippery at times. The plier head is smaller than those of some competitor tools, but they work. I would like it if they would open a little wider, had more pointed tips, and possibly a wire cutter made from a harder steel. But those are my only complaints and they are minuscule considering what this tool has to offer: A complete set of some of the best designed tools on the market (can opener, awl/drill, scissors for example), a solid and precise locking mechanism, and great workmanship all around. The tools are accessible from the outside (don't require the pliers to be folded out beforehand). Some people might not like the finger nail grooves to access the tools - they are the same as on any Victorinox and work for me. The leather sheath is ok - mine has a small patch of velcro on the flap which I thought would fail after a while, but I've had the tool for over 7 years now and used it a lot, and it still looks almost new. Overall it's fantastic at a competitive price.

A customer appeared in my boatyard, just back from Spokane, Washington, with half a dozen Leathermen. We all bought one from him and thought them pretty nifty. They didn't have locks on the blades and tools, were pretty crudely engineered and my shipwright managed to break his main blade almost at once. When mine got stolen, I replaced it with the Victorinox and the improvement was vast. Better engineering, better quality of steel, better design, better selection of tools - a superb piece of kit.Mine was a permanent fixture on my belt when I spent 3 years rebuilding my house. From stripping insulation from wire to cutting holes in ceiling plaster from down-lighters, this tool worked its keep every day,one way or another. I used it to repair the window catches in my hostal room in Singapore, open tins and bottles everywhere - it goes on.The only thing I'd wish to add would be scissors. I think I'd swap the file/hacksaw for that. I wouldn't want a cork-screw - I know how to get a cork OUT of a bottle, not push it in, without any tools or breaking the bottle. The Victorinox multi-tool would make one of the best presents any practical person could ever receive - or award themselves.

This tool comes in a decent quality leather pouch with a belt loop. It can only be hung on the belt vertically and the catch is velcro. The tool itself is made of highly polish steel, which has a smooth, silky feel to it. The pliers are snub-nosed rarther than pointed and this is the only tool that is held inside the handles when folded - all others can be accessed without opening the tool. This is a good design point, unfortunately, all the tools are deployed with a thumbnail slot in the side of each tool, if you have very short nails, this could be irritating. All the tools lock into place which is great and when unfolding the tool it clicks into a position half way deployed so the ruler tool can be used.Nice. The blades are quite thin but will propably do any light duty work more than adaquately. I don't believe it's a special kind of steel, nor do I think the blades are as good as the ones on the Leatherman tools. Leatherman also has a better 'one-handed' deployment design. The pliers are a little uncomfortable to use and I have large hands. However, for a very well made multi-tool with lots of functionality and a lot cheaper than it's competition, this is a good choice.

The Swisstoolx ticks all the boxes on the Multi tool heck list for me.The pliers are substantial and offer both good wire cutting capability and grip. This version replaces the rescue blade with sissors, which are very practical. The tools available in this multi tool will be instantly recognisable to anyone who has owned a swiss army knife.Indeed the rugged construction fit and finish of the parts is what you may expect from a high quality maker like Victorinox. The tools are all acessable from the outside meaning that you do not need to deploy the pliers or "open it up" to get the job done. Each tool opens individualy with a reassuring snick as the locking mechanism clicks into place, giving you the security that the tool will not fold up on your fingers. One note of Caution here, due to the locking mechanism on the blade, this is Illegal to carry in a public place without "Good Reason", ie you need it to do your job.The leather case supplied has a velcro (hook and loop) fastening, the belt loop is substantial but fixed for vertical belt carry only.Overall this Multi Tool is well worth the price and will serve well in many roles.

If your looking for a ninja type multitool for when the zombies attack i.e one you can use to bolt armoured plates.to the car windows while steering this is not suitable as you can not release and close tools with one hand as I am lead to believe you can with leatherman multitools. However if you want it for use around the house for jobs then it is awesome. I have used it hundreds of times and I have only had it a month. We are current renovating our house and I have used it frim opening paint pots to removing scres and nails from walls. It is solid the tool lock is great and the tools are stiff to release and feel firm and sturdy when using. It is really good quality. Not super.comfortable to grip and as cool as I thought burnished would be in hindsight it might make the tools harder to select as the nail slots are.all black. When pliers are deployed you can not really access the other tools. It is well made and I have to say I love it although my wife is getting fed up with me walking around the house with my multitool strapped to my waist like a light saber. Definitely worth it

I recently aquired a gerber multitool and was dissapointed with both construction and functionality. Having seen the reviews for the swisstool I moved to one of these, and i can happily confirm that all the superlatives are true. Its a class act. Solid: distinctly chunky and heavy - its for action not dislay, though the aesthetics are pleasing in an industrial sort of way.The design is excellent. all the tools are easily accesible without having to open the pliers first. The pliers are solid, and the handles well designed so that they are comofortable to use depite holding all the tools. The quality appears well up to the high standards of Swiss manufacturing and Victorinox's exemplary stainless steel.A minor idiosyncracy is tha abscence of scissors,an iconic part of the swiss army knives which my kids always go for first. Not really a complaint as this is a much heavier duty bit of kit and the selection of tools are all potentially very useful (unlike some of the weird hook thingys on the swiss knives).I am delighted with this tool.

I have used one of these for 6 years. I work in the Emergency services and i have used them on many occasions sometimes daily. The main plus is the build quality and machining which i have found FAR superior to the Leatherman series which i have also owned. The next big plus is the fact you can lock all the Applications which means you can cut with force knowing the blade isn't going to spring back and have your fingers off!The pliers are super strong and the blade quality is excellent.I can honestly say its been used often, treated roughly, but given basic maintenence evey 6 months and has been used in a multitude of ways, and has been used to save lives, and continues to do so, and i trust it,and would recommend it to anyone who need reliable quality equipment.

I wanted a pocket knife for little jobs around the house and to take when on holiday and I was really torn between a traditional swiss army knife and this one. I eventually went for this because of the extra tools it offers and sacrificed the portability of the others. I'm so glad I did as this is a brilliant tool and gets used almost daily for little jobs saving me the need to dig the tool box out the cupboard. It is solidly built and all the various tools are strong (and sharp!) and the little leather case it comes in is well made and looks smart.I would say that it is quite heavy and I wouldn't wear it on my belt unless I really needed to but that is a sign of the quality construction and materials used.Overall I can't recommend it enough.

I recently purchased a Victorinox 303231 multitool from Amazon to replace the one I lost to the grinning 'ape' of a borderguard on a recent visit to an Eastern European country. I inadvertantly omitted to place it in my 'check-in' luggage, and left it in my 'carry-on' bag, - 'he' soon spotted it on the x-ray and triumphantly pulled it out and walked away with it. I just stood there dumbfounded, unable to do anything as I watched my beautiful multi-tool disappear, - 50 quid! - I hope he cuts an artery !.......I cannot recommend this tool to highly, it's not until you own one that you start wondering how you ever did without it.

I have owned and used a swisstool since 1999 the first year it was produced! and have had to replace it because I lost the first and there was no question of getting another, they are quite simply the best at the standard you expect from victorinox and as I am a carpenter I have put mine through its paces and it is a pleasure to have and use! I have also had and used other brand multi tools gerber leatherman and others and I have not had the success I have enjoyed with the swisstool!! in fact I will NEVER BUY ANY OTHER MULTITOOL!!! The swisstool IS that good and I will continue to rely on mine for many many years to come.

My dad gave me his when I started uni as I now work in Technical Theatre. The one he gave me is older than me by a good few years, so maybe 24, 25? All the blades are still sharp - I've just myself on them numerous times when I haven't paid attention. It's a shame it doesn't come with a tiny pair of scissors but the blades are so sharp and varied, there isn't really need for one.Shame he didn't give me a case with it as it's quite heavy in my pockets haha. I just need to figure out which size holder it needs (anybody know?)If you're wondering which multitool to buy - I'd definitely recommend this one!

I served in the Royal Engineers for 25 years. I have used all the multi-tools that have been introduced and their upgrades. If you want the real deal this is it. This will be my 4th - they neglect to mention the hidden feature - it has legs and walks! I have had Gerbers - ouch! They hurt (bite you) and break easily! The Leatherman is a good tool but it also breaks. I have yet to break a Victorinox - hence the lifetime guarantee - Just keep it close! Don't get the one with the serrated knife blade - it is dangerously sharp when new but impossible to sharpen when blunt!
