Bought as a gift for sensible 7 year old to be supervised with, also wearing cutting gloves. The little boy loves the gift, he wears it on the pocket chain, and into his pocket. The knife is quickly brought out to cut the baler twine on hay bales, cut an apple, and of course to saw off twigs to then peel and whittle. I now have a jar full of wooden narlbinding /darning needles, and a crochet hook in the making! The knife is VERY SHARP, and the little saw is EVEN MORE DANGEROUS, the jagged edge is VERY SHARP........BUT with the safety gloves and an adult supervision it is as safe as most out of door pastimes. (eg.... breaking bones coming off bike, scooter or trampoline.) The little knife blade folds in,and has a blunt rounded top end. It also has a bottle opener and this doubles as a screwdriver........in a hidden slot comes a tiny pair of tweezers too get splinters out. I am the grandma, brought up 'doing outdoor skills for over 60 years,I bought the knife for 7 year old grandson , he enjoys learning these skills, The Childs father does not agree, and has fallen out with me.

I know that these days, it's not the "done thing" to give a child a knife, but I grew up in woods and exploring the natural world and I aim to instill the same fascination and love for all things natural in my children. A small knife like this is a great introduction to simple bushcrafts, cutting and trimming sticks etc and I think importantly teaches a child that with their own two hands; they can make things, change things and cause an effect. With proper tuition and guidance they can learn to handle a sharp tool safely and with respect. The knife itself is 100% the same in build and quality as a regular Victorinox knife but with the tip rounded off to reduce/eliminate the chance of a stick injury from the blade point. It is still just as sharp as a regular one though! The first thing to teach them is how to open and close the knife safely. It comes in a nice display box with a decent lanyard and a chain, both of which are quality items.

Nicely made and put together just like all Victorinox knives. It is a nice introductory present for pre-teens and kids that haven't had their own knife before. I bought it for my son's birthday and despite a lot of other presents this was definitely his favourite thing. It comes with a lanyard and a chain so they won't lose it. The main blade has a rounded tip so they don't accidentally injure themselves and it is a good way for them to learn respect for the knife and how to use it safely before graduating onto something more substantial. Has the usual useful features but may have been better with a pair of scissors.Overall nice present and I would recommend.

The main difference between this and the adult version is that the knives do not have points but, make no mistake, they are sharp. I bought this so that my nephew could whittle in the woods without carrying proper knives and it’s good for that. He likes the tweezers to hollow the wood out and thinks it’s cool to have it round his neck.My only gripe is that like all Swiss Army Knives, I think the blades are stiff to fold back in and are an accident waiting to happen. However, I have bought him some cut resistant gloves and given him some safety advice.

Purchased pocket knife this for my nephew for his 9th birthday. Out of all the cool gadgets and toys he got, this seemed to be his favorite. Months later I still see him wearing it on his belt or around his neck (with the included lanyard). I never did hear about him hurting himself, which I chalk up to his parents giving him a little guidance. If you’re considering this as a gift and the child is old enough, you should do it. I think my nephew really enjoyed the responsibility that comes with owning a knife, which was neat to see.

We got this for our 7 1/2 year old for Christmas, he carries it with him everywhere! Love that it comes with a chain and lanyard, I make him keep it chained to his belt loop so it’s hard to lose. He collects sticks from the yard and has whittled all kinds of treasures. I wasn’t sure he was old enough for this, but he’s done really well after a short course in knife safety. If I find it where his little siblings can reach it, it goes up for a week. So far that’s only had to happen once! He loves his big kid knife!

bought this for my sensible 7 year old. He loves it. Bought it with the whittling book too. Very sharp - we laiid down some ground rules like only using it under supervsion, not taking it out with his friends etc.The saw s great for going nto the woods and sawing little sticks. fab for camping and cubs / scouts. I worred that he would complain about the rounded knife as his dad s a chef and teaches him about sharp knives but he diidn't notice and they also use a similar knfe for the DofE kit.

After our initial discussion with our granddaughter on the proper use and safety issues of a pen knife, we choose the Victorinox My First knife.Sophie was most impressed when she opened her birthday present, aged 9. She loves the outdoors and enjoys forest walks etc. Her first attempt was whittling a catapault ( quite a tomboy, in the cubs ), and it really worked ! Knife is the right size for her to handle and the quality is extremely good - should last for years.

This is simply a Victorinox without a pointed knife; it's still very sharp and beware that the saw is lethal too. It comes in a gift box with a lanyard for carrying it around your neck, and a chain if you want to secure it to your trousers, belt, backpack etc. My daughter has always thought the little tweezers and toothpick in my pocketknife are cool, so I'm sure she's going to love this penknife!

I purchased this for my nephew for Christmas. He had never owned a knife before and was getting into Boy Scouts. The knife is very sharp and appears to be well built. It also has a chain so he can hook it up and not lose it. He didn't believe how sharp it was without a point so I took it outside and chopped a small branch off of a bush. After that, he was more careful with it.

This was a gift to our 7 year old grandson. He absolutely loves his knife. All he wants to do is "whittle". It is a safe knife for the younger group but makes them feel independent. The only thing that I would prefer is to have something other than a bottle opener with the blade. There is not much use for a kid to need a bottle opener. Maybe a second blade would be good.

Great first knife. I got it for my 6 year old who loves the outdoors and adventure. It has a nice rounded point but is sharper than expected. Very well built. A little hard to open/close but teach the kids how to use it and it will be just fine. Great idea for your little one, I think it teaches responsibility and how to safely use a tool in life.

If you're looking for a starter taschenwerkzeug (?) for the child in your life, you can't go wrong with this "safety" SAK. The blade has a rounded tip, like a butter knife, which helps to prevent accidental stabbings. The translucent scales look great, and it comes with a lanyard for handy carrying. My nephew absolutely loves his first Victorinox.

A good starter knife. I bought this for my 8 year old son and with the right training so far no cuts. My only criticism is that it comes with a bottle opener which i assume is so you can get a flat head screwdriver. A bottle opener is a little lost on a child and a can opener would have been better i feel. But you cannot fault the knife in anyway.

Great first knife for a young cub scout! My 8 year old son loves it, but had some trouble to open and close the blade which requires some significant finger strength. I wound up having to put some adhesive felt pads (like you put on the bottom of chair legs) so he could grip the slippery plastic case firmly enough while opening the blade.
