I've had one of these for well over ten years.....Its the same one. I take my camera all over the world and have taken thousands and thousands of shots with it. Nothing has broken on the MB-D200 power pack. I am however very careful when opening and closing it. I do not open or close it unless I have to. I also take care when replacing the batteries. But then I take care of my equipment at all times...look after it and it will look after you...as the saying goes. It adds a lot of weight to the camera but hand holding it is not a problem as the grip is superb for my big hands and it is a really stable platform, let the weight rest in the elbows. I also use a Manfrotto monopod with the clip on to camera head.Easy to remove when you want to but safe and secure when you don't as the locking mechanism works well. Having twin batteries in the back means there's plenty of battery power on tap so swapping out batteries mid shoot in not usually a problem. I still carry two fully charged spares in my bag. The MB-D200 makes the now out of date D200 look a real beast and I love working with it. For all its faults, which have never bothered me, it's still my camera of choice and the battery pack just adds to the pleasure. I stay with what I know....camera snobbery does not bother me...Do you know what every button does on your latest addition ?

I was advised to buy this for my D200 by some friends who are also keen photographers. It speeds up the number of shots you can take per second from about 5 to 9 which is pretty good when doing action shots e.g. birds as I often do. Also, you gain the better part of another 500 shots before you need to charge batteries up so it's possible to get most of a fortnight's holiday without worrying about the batteries. So there's a bit of a downside. The camera does become bulkier and heavier. Frequently, I found myself using a monopod screwed into the base of the Battery Grip and this made it easier to get a stable camera for most shots. Also, I got a sling rather than the strap the camera comes with. There is a cute trick you can do where you keep the monopod in its shortest configuration, screwed into the base of the grip and tucked into my belt at the waistband. It is so stable that way; I was getting hand-held shots down to about a tenth of a second and still staying sharp. After a while, though, I ceased to notice the extra weight and just got on with it. The increased shutter speed was the biggest single bonus.

If you're looking to add a little more juice to your already-power-hungry Nikon D200 or indeed the Fujifilm S5 Pro, then this is the add-on you need! The battery grip rightly supports either two Nikon batteries or 6 AAs. I would advise using the Nikon batteries as their performance is ultimately much better than that of shelfline AAs. Using rechargeable AA batteries with a capacity of around 2800mah results in an incredibly long charged period, and offers ultimate juice. To note, however, that when using 6 AAs the weight increases substantially and when coupling with a long telephoto lens this can be a pain. The build quality is not the same as the D200, and is definitely plasticky. Also of note is the lack of weather sealing, meaning you'll need extra care in the rain. A definite bonus is the inclusion of a shutter button and appropriate aperture/shutter dials, making this grip very versatile indeed. All minor niggles aside, the MB-D200 is a fantastic piece of kit and really worth the money if you're looking for the extra-stability/longer-life package that's necessery in today's photography.

Made of all plastic so definitely not as robust as the magnesium alloy chassis on the D200. Makes life much easier in portrait mode. Where it is really useful is when you are at events and want to look like you are a professional and supposed to be inside the barriers. To most non-photographers your D200 will look like a D3. It really has worked for me, just look confident and people seem to assume that you are allowed to be there. Don't blame me if you get caught though!

Works for both the Nikon D200 and the Fuji S5 Pro DSLR camera. Please note however you will need to use NP-150 batteries in the Fuji as the Nikon camera batteries will not work.
