This dedicated K-3 Grip adds two areas of benefit to Ricoh's flagship Pentax DSLR.Firstly it adds additional, connected, battery capacity and an additional, unconnected, SD card holder. As the camera body already has 2 connected SD card slots, the most significant advantage is that of the extra battery. The grip comes with 2 alternative battery holders - one for an additional D-L190 camera battery (and I'm sure most of us buy a spare) and another for 6 AA batteries (Lithium/Ni-MH/Alkaline). The latter could be really useful if the D-L190 batteries are exhausted and there's either a shop nearby or flashgun batteries can be borrowed in an emergency.Secondly it adds a 90 grip so that for uprightshooting the right hand can use the duplicate controls keeping the elbow tucked into the body in a more comfortable and stable position.An additional benefit for many is that once the grip is added to the K-3 it becomes a heavier and more stable beast and therefore can offer sharper shooting. The extra weight might not suit some, but for me the balance and stability gain negates that.All of the above advantages are great, with just one drawback that I can see. This is that there is no-way of knowing it seems when one battery is exhausted and the K-3 is running on the back-up. Therefore once the battery level indicator starts to drop, or even worse, when power fails, the spare has already been utilised. I can see this could lull some of us into a false sense of security so those spare AAs in the bag seem a very good idea! This is the only reason I'm giving the grip 4 stars not 5, it would be great to have more information of battery levels.Overall, the D-BG5 grip adds professional capacity and handling to a superb camera - recommended.

I already own K10 and K20 with battery packs, the cameras are more balanced the the packs especialy if you have big hands. Must admit that the K10/K20 camera bodies are more comfortable and naughty of Pentax to redesign the grips so they're not interchangable, I suppose they need the money!

I was originally upset when the Battery Grip for my K7/K5 did not fit the K3. However, when Adorama (USA) offered the camera & grip for the same price, I reckoned OK! It works better than the original (more like the camera body) and holds the same battery inserts. Same seal structure.

The difference this makes to the balance of the camera is remarkable. As other reviews have pointed out, it is a useful habit to get into turning the battery grip off when using the camera in landscape otherwise you will pres the shutter release!

The battery grip helps to take steady images because of the extra weight. My camera is more comfortable, and the nice thing is that the grip has its own power (batteries) and can take over if the camera runs out.I'm very pleased.

Bought this grip for my Pentax K-3-11 very pleased with the product, I bought a cheaper one for my K-7 but this one is a lot better.
