I have recently purchased a used Nikon D5200 as a backup camera for my Nikon D7000. Unfortunately, the D5200 is rather diminutive in size and I have trouble holding it safely, as I have quite large hands. As Nikon don't make battery grips for their D5XXX series of DSLR's, the only option was to buy one from a third party manufacturer. After reading all the reviews on various makes, I somewhat trepidatiously settled on this offering from Neewer for £14.99, which is hardly going to break the bank and if it didn't work then I could always send it back via Amazon's excellent returns programme. However, when the Neewer battery grip arrived I needn't have worried. Constructed of toughish plastic with decent rubber grips, the Neewer battery grip feels robust enough to cope with day to day use, although nothing too rough. The grip comes supplied with a connecting lead which plugs into the camera body in order to facilitate the use of the control buttons on the body of the grip itself. Personally I don't use this lead as it tends to get in the way, so I leave it off and simply use the shutter release button on my D5200 itself. The grip holds 2 x Nikon EN-EL14 batteries, although you can use just one if you don't have two and everything will operate fine. Incidentally, I use the official Nikon battery as supplied with my camera and a non Nikon make battery in my grip at the same time. Unlike some other reviewers have reported, both batteries work perfectly when used at the same time, with no error messages appearing on my camera's LCD screen. Attaching the grip is extremely easy; remove the battery door on your camera and simply screw the bolt on the grip into the tripod mounting hole on the camera until finger tight. Once attached, the grip feels well balanced and comfortable to hold, whilst adding only a minimum of weight to that of the camera. I have purchased several accessories from Neewer over the years, from tripod heads to flashguns and non of their product have disappointed. I can safely say that this grip can be added to that list; it's cheap, looks good but above all it works with my Nikon D5200 DSLR. I've included a few photos of my D5200 with the Neewer battery grip attached and mounted on a tripod to give an idea of what it looks like in use. All in all I'm very happy with this battery grip from Neewer and have no hesitation in recommending it to other users of the Nikon D5200.

This battery grip matches the color and texture of the camera and it improves the ergonomics a lot. The part that feels really cheap is the lid that covers the battery compartment, because it doesn't close tightly so at the lightest touch it makes a plasticky sound, or even if you shake the camera. One thing that I don't like about the grip is that the bit that goes into the camera's battery slot doesn't fit tightly enough and has room to move around a bit, so whenever I turn the camera in portrait orientation and grab it by the grip I can feel the grip moving slightly back and forth. However, this hasn't caused any problems so far. This is the only reason why I rated this 4 stars instead of 5.So overall, for £20 I am happy with this product because it does what I needed it to do, which is to improve the ergonomics of the camera, because my hands are to large for the D5100 and my little finger always slips underneath the camera which is annoying and uncomfortable ( I am a guy btw, but writing this from my girlfriend's account from which I bought the grip). It also makes the camera look much better so I can't complain.

Well, I can not say anything that hasn't been said in previous reviews, so I will just confirm some of the points. For the price you can not go wrong if you are looking for a battery grip to fit the D5100; it fits well, but as previously mentioned, the tightening wheel does rattle a bit if you shake the camera, but to be honest who is going to go around shaking their expensive camera? The colour match is good, but not perfect and you have to look closely to notice the difference. The surface where you hold the camera in a normal shooting position is smoother than the camera body and it can feel as though it is liable to slide, although it feels this way I have not actually had it slip.Using the supplied cable may be a pain if you want to use the built in button whilst in portrait mode, personally I will try to adjust my grip and use the camera button and see how I get on.So if you are looking for a battery grip I can recommend this at this price. It gives the camera a good look and feel and with 2 batteries it should give you plenty of shooting time on a long day out.

Bought this for my Nikon D5100, makes the camera bigger, heavier and more impressive to look at. It isn't an exact match to the cameras plastic body but is very close. Fits almost perfectly to the camera shape but not exactly, don't let that put you off as it isn't noticeable. You will need a second battery, I would recommend a Nikon and not a 3rd party battery. You need to take off the battery flap and put it into the hidden compartment in the battery grip (so that it doesn't get lost), you then need to plug it into the camera, screw it in place tight and then insert both of your batteries. If you insert the batteries before attaching it to the camera then the camera will not notice the battery grip. The extra grip on the bottom makes the camera more stable when taking photos. If you plug the wire into the grip and the camera then you can turn the camera on its side and use the button on the grip to take photos with rather than the normal button. It doubles the battery life in the camera (because there are 2 batteries) and can still be attached to a tripod.

Having read previous reviews and seen this item on Utube I was not 100% sure. However I did not need to worry. It worked perfectly. Connect as per instructions. I put in two Genuine Nikon batteries so no issues with not recognising the battery or giving error messages. The colour of the plastic matches and you would have to look really hard to notice a difference from the camera body. The unit comes with a shutter release button for use when holding the camera vertically for portrait shots. To get this to work you will need to attach the supplied cable from the unit to the camera (GPS connection). However you are not restricted to using this button and if you have long fingers you can stilleasily reach the camera's own shutter release avoiding having to use the cable. The only negative I can find is that you have to take off the battery compartment's door/flap from the camera to attach this grip. This is easy to do and can be stored away within the grip itself. At the present price (£19.10) its a great buy.

Got this item about 2 weeks ago (June 2012) for my new D510 NikonNo rattles, v good fit, rubber very nice, no slippage or movement and feels pretty darn close to the type fitted on the camera body - used to have a D80 and Nikon grip and there is no real difference -except price.for £20, its a bargain, and since Nikon don ot make one, its your only option I guess. I have not seen the other makers (polaroid etc) versions, but this was the cheapest and hits all the right marks, and my Nikon does NOT look cheap for it (phew!)Don't like the idea of a wire for portrait shurrter mode, but its not the fault of the grip, moreover NIkon did not add the control function via the battery port...i find I prefer to not use the cable and just adjust my grip. Not tried a second battery - which i have read in one review did say it did not work for them - but then again 'clone' battries are a little iffy with the Nikon D5100, so it may actually be that and not the grip???***** FIve Stars from meeeee.

For £16 you can't go wrong with this product. The extended battery capability, and added size (for those of us with big man hands) is well worth shelling out the few quid it costs to buy. As others have said you do need the original camera battery to get the grip to work, otherwise you get a battery not compatible type warning. That doesn't mean you can use two genuine Nikon replacement batteries though - it needs the one that the camera came with (or at least that is the only way I could seem to get it to work).Doubt I will make use of the shutter release button on the grip cause the cord from the grip to the camera would just encourage me to catch it on something and break the camera or thegrip so I Will just use the big man hands god gave me to reach round and press the camera shutter release myself.Product would be 5 star if it weren't for the weird battery requirement.

Surprisingly good for the price. I can't compare it to the NIKON version because they just don't make one for the D5100, so with that in mind, if you want a battery grip [that takes two batteries for extended shooting] then this will do the job. Wasn't too keen on the lead connection for the vertical shutter release button but it really is the only option for this model as there are no contacts on the bottom of the camera as you find on the D7100 etc. It's a good fit to the body, doesn't look out of place and there's even a place on the grip to safely store the battery compartment door that has to be removed to fit this.I even managed to attach a quick release tripod plate to the bottom of the unit without worrying it would cause issues.

I did have some reservations when I went to order the battery grip because reviews I previously read indicated third party batteries would not always work. I need not have worried at all (it only took me a few minutes to fit the grip to my Nikon D5200 Camera) - I had one original Nikon Battery & three other third party batteries - they will all work in any order I place them in the gripObviously the grip & the second battery meant additional weight to the camera but as I take sports photography I can now take photographs throughout the Rugby / Football / Netball games without having to stop to change the batteries over & it has enhanced the balance of the unit as a whole.Wish I had bought this item months ago.BMW

From the outset let me say for under £20 you can't go far wrong with this piece of kit.Yes it does feel a litle bit "cheap" BUT let's be honest it is cheap!!!....however it still does the job of holding my batteries which I what I wanted. The unit fits on the camera nicely and gives it a very solid look and feel. The wheel to tighten unit to camera via the tripod thread does rattle slightly even when unit is securely on camera, but to be honest as stated at the beginning of this review "For under £20....." (finish the sentence)I had no issues with "battery error" messages but I was using 2 genuine Nikon batteries. All in all,if you want a battery holder and don't want to spend mega bucks...this is for you!

Ordered this on Thursday evening it arrived Saturday morning, The grip is of cheap shiny plastic construction but as it is attached to a good camera I dont intend dropping it.... The installation is simple and quick just detach the battery covering lid from the camera insert the batteries and grip to the camera and away you go. The plastic is not the same colour as the NIKON D5100 but it does fit well without having to chop away bits if you use the D3100 grip workaround. The only downside to this grip is the Cable for enabling vertical shots on the grip lies on your supporting hand (left hand) in my case but I can live with that. Overall a good product from a good supplier

Apart from the rather cheap feel and the inconvenience of having to use a cable if you want the vertical shutter release (I haven't bothered with it) this does the job very well.It is extremely good value for money - just be careful to read the instructions first. If you attach it with the batteries in, you get a warning message saying it is not compatible. Attach it to the camera first, then put in the batteries. As I said, it feels a bit cheap - but it is cheap. It gives the camera a much better shape, especially for big hands. It's a shame Nikon don't produce their own, but this works well and is excellent value for money.

Slight colour mismatch but does the job its supposed to. I would however recommend buying extra transmitter cables as when attached it is bent and can be damaged. I would also recommend disconnecting the cable from the grip when storing the camera as as mentioned before, can damage the cable. It is a nice substitute as Nikon themselves do not manufacture a grip for the D5xxx line and does add an extra boost to battery power. If you're not fussy about taking portraits with the vertical shutter release, then you can enjoy the benefits of extra battery power without the hasslel of the transmitter cable attached.

This battery grip for the D5100 is superb ! Well made and easy to fix up to your camera, ive seen several mods using the D3100 grip where people "chop" part of the grip to fix, well this does the job just fine, snug fit and looks great on the camera. Im very surprised that Nikon dont actually make there own, but 10/10 to these guys who have plugged that gap in the market, and more fool Nikon for missing out. If you are after a battery grip for your D5100 then this is it !.. Also first time user of amazon, the grip came within a couple of days of purchase, very happy and excellent seller !THANK YOU !

What a product, Sturdy, Matching the colour of D5100(its not exact) but its 99.5 % matching, considering this is not a Nikon Product and at this price, its beating Nikon quality I would say !! It completes the camera...a must have. I have big hands and without the grip its just not stable enough. D5100 is a entry level DSLR and is small, when you'll take a prosumer level DLSR in your hand you'll feel how small this is, the grip also gives a consistent and continuous battery backup, shoot day long with or without flashes, No problem. Would highly recommended !
