Having recently bought a new EOS 700D (as a Christmas present to myself), and knowing I would be doing some fairly intense promotional work with it, I did some due diligence before buying a battery grip. There are a few about, but I shied away from a) Canon's own (way overpriced) and b) theLCD models (more stuff to go wrong).I settled on Neweer's model based largely on existing positive reviews. And I have to say, they're well-founded.Unpacking the grip from Neweer's fetchingly orange box, I was somewhat concerned at its light weight. But I bought the unit along with a pair of 2500mAh batteries since Canon only provides a rather wimpy 1120mAh with the camera. Once these were charged and snapped in,the unit felt much more solid and business-like. I haven't yet charged up a half-dozen AA's to form a backup unit with the included adapter, but I dare say that will add even more manly heft to it.The instructions for use are typical for a product at this price - a broadsheet of multiple languages and, at first glance, a plethora of confusing diagrams. However, the English section is written pretty well - it's clear and concise, and even explains (albeit briefly) how to detach the EOS' battery cover before attaching the grip. And the diagrams make sense when you progress through them carefully.Once I'd attached this grip, I held the whole assembly at arm's length and took a good look. The Neweer's finish is different from the 700D, but not in a bad way. While the EOS body is a matt black, the Neweer unit has a muted shine. The camera's grip areas are rough and hard, while the battery grip's are smoother but more rubbery. In good light, the difference is there. But the unit doesn't look particularly cheap on the camera. There's a telltale seam on one side, which no doubt Canon's version doesn't have. But for 80 quid less, I'm easy. Besides, that one deficit is muted by the care Neweer have taken to ensure their unit moulds perfectly into the camera's contours. It's clearly been designed very well, if produced on a budget. What Neweer has also done is perfectly replicate Canon's font and colours for the feature buttons they've included - which can be easily enabled/disabled, ready for when you want to go 90 degrees and take a vertical shot. The crucial shutter button feels exactly like the camera's. The main dial on the battery grip actually iterates a bit more smoothly and quietly than the camera's own. The other buttons are more recessed in comparison, but reply with a definite 'click' when you press them.Performance-wise, I can't fault this unit. I spent three hours at a play rehearsal yesterday, took some 150 shots and the EOS still tells me I have pretty much a full charge. I know that's down to the batteries, but the ease with which I could switch from landscape to portrait and basically just play about with what felt like a really great balanced piece of gear.. well, as you can tell. I like it.Full marks to Neweer.

One word to describe this : fantastic. For the price that you pay for this item you are getting an absolute steal.I have recently been doing a lot more photography as I have been doing more photo shoots for clients and their vehicles so having the ability to use and store 2 battery’s make my life so much easier, especially if I have 2 consecutive shoots which means I cannot go home to charge the batteries in between.Upon opening of the box the item is well wrapped and packaged within the box, the grip comes with the option of using AA Batteries to power the camera (which could be very useful to some) or to hold 2 of the conventional camera batteries that usually fit into camera. My product came quick and undamaged which is always a good start.Upon putting my cameras into the grip and spotting it into the camera it worked as it should, and worked absolutely perfectly. A switch is required to be able to use the built in shutter button and camera controls and ISO wheel, however all of this is done (at least with my camera - 600D) was all done through the battery pack and no additional wires or connection was needed for this to work, which I was very surprised by as I have seen grips like this that have a small cable which connects from the camera to the grip.Build quality: for £20 worth of grip you get what you pay for in my opinion, the plastic it’s made of is not that desirable , and can be a little scratchy , however it does still feel sturdy , with soft touch pads of grip so it doesn’t feel like you’re going to drop it. And once batteries have been installed and the grip attached to the camera , the camera becomes quite weighty and solid, which in my opinion greatly improved the feel of the camera.Price: the price of £20 imo is also very reasonable, compared to the canon equivalent, you’re basically getting the same product, just with slightly different plastic as the function of the 2 is still exactly the same (although I have not tried the canon so I cannot tel for sure)Function; as previously mentioned the grip adds a fair bit of weight to the camera , which in my opinion makes it feel more steady , and makes it slightly easier to use. You can also take portrait shots much easier and you can hold the grip as you usually would, and activate the shutter with the button on the grip , making it a lot easier so you’re not having to crane your arm round into an uncomfortable position.Overall pros:Good function and adds a good weight and feel to the cameraMakes it easier for portrait shootingExtends the battery life considerably if using good batteriesEasy to use battery trayCons:Slightly lacklustre build quality (but what are you expecting for £20?)

Good things that might not be so obvious:1. The packaging looks great! Not what I'm used to from cheap camera gear.2. It literally smells like a brand new Macbook, which was oddly nice.3. For a second I thought that they'd sent me a better model.. but this is it! I'm really surprised at how great it feels, the jog wheel is even smoother than my 550D!Bad things that might not be too obvious:There's nothing significant to avoid buying this. The only slight issue is that it's not the quickest thing to take it on and off - but you won't need to anyway.Interesting things that people should be aware of: Maybe I was just lazy when reading the description, but this comes with two 'Magazines' which is sweet. One is for Canon batteries and the other is for x6 AA batteries. Somehow in my head I thought a magazine would take both, no idea why! It's handy as hell to be able to have a mag ready, but it means that if you've got 4 LP-E8 batteries, you'll have to find another mag or get some AA rechargeables. That way you could go: Canon, AA, Canon without the camera being off for more than a few seconds.Hope this less than obvious review helped people decide on getting this. It's a bit of a lifesaver when it's on a shoulder rig and I can switch the batteries out in a few seconds without having to remove the camera. That alone is a reason to spend the twenty quid!

I did a lot of research before buying this grip and came to the conclusion that cheap third party products are perfectly fine and up to the task. The grip is good quality and all the buttons work well and the rubber feel to it makes it feel very secure in the hand.I have a canon 700d and this really bulks it up. I recently did a friends birthday party where I took over 1,200 shots and the twin battery pack showed no signs of giving up. The extra grip that this gave me on portrait shots was also what I wanted. The AA battery insert does not feel very good though and I struggled to get the AA batteries in and then they fell out each time I tried to put it in the grip.I have no intention of usingit and only tried it out of curiosity.I use a side hand grip on the camera and it works so much better with the battery grip than without as it provides a second loop to attach it to at the bottom whereas without the battery grip it screws into the tripod screw which means that there is a plastic plate under your camera. So the grip works well and is well made and certainly adds bulk to the camera. Makes it look good to however it now does not fit in the bag that I have just bought!

I have a 700D and decided I really needed the extra battery life afforded by one of these grips and after seeing how much the 'Official' Canon one costs, plumbed for this Neewer make as it seemed to get good reviews. I wasn't disappointed, it is a great item, well enough made, easy to use and very functional. It takes either 1 or 2 LP-E8 batteries, or 6 AA batteries (I recommend rechargeables)... The battery holder 'tray' is easy to remove/insert and the rotating key like lock ensures that it doesn't slide out at a crucial moment. The grip it self is held to the camera via the tripod socket and does up nice and tight with no wobble. The cameras main controls are reproduced on the grip so that you can use it rotated 90 degrees, with out being a contortionist! The shutter release includes the half way auto-focus, etc. function. My only criticism of this unit would be that the power on/off switch for the grip is a little loose and easy to accidently change as it doesn't 'click' into place.I have since bought other Neewer made products and found them to be excellent value for money! All in all I am very happy with my purchase!

I have owned this product for nearly 8 months now and it has never left my camera. On the good side: it does extend the battery life of the camera, I only ran out of juice once when I was caught unawares, had I been more prepared I would have packed the AA battery holster or my lonely 3rd battery. It's big and gives a more "Professional" camera look. But this is only really for people who want to look the part and doesn't actually affect the photo's being taken ...On the down side:It's big. Attracts sometimes unwanted attention (because it looks professional/more expensive), and makes street photography a little more difficult - can't exactly be subtle.I noticed an issue with the scrollwheel onthe battery grip; it isn't overly sensitive: I have in the past tried to change auto-focus points using the scrollwheel and found that I've had to make extra turns of the scrollwheel, frustrating if it causes you to miss the shot because the auto-focus point is off.All these things considered, I would definitely recommend buying it. It's good for the price you pay.

What can I tell you. Looks like a Canon original part, feels like a canon original part, functions like a canon original part....how is this so cheap?Exactly as described, comes well packaged and with two internal trays (for AA and standard cam batteries) has a good rubbery texture to the grip. All the buttons function perfectly and the unit has its own power isolation so you can switch it off in landscape (save accidentally hitting a button) fits perfectly to my Eos camera body and is super secure, no wobble, not even a fraction of movement it just feels like it’s part of the body.Worked from the second I attached, no faffing , no issues.Let’s be honest if it lasts 6 months at this price I’ll be happy but I have a feeling it will last a lot longer. I will be putting it through its paces in the next 3 monthsIn the video I show how the power switch works To isolate the buttons and how, once switched on, the shutter button wakes the camera and all the other buttons function just like they do on the main body.

Arrived on first day of estimate. Bought with two spare batteries. Feels solid and looks good. Fits smoothly onto my 700D. All buttons work well and do as they should. Have only done a quick test so far and seems to be excellent value for money. Should last for years if treated as camera equipment normally is, but for 1/6th the cost of an OEM, does it matter if it breaks or gets lost. I will expand on this review only if I find I have problems in using it.Really great piece of kit. Recommending it around my local camera club. Not enough use yet to assess battery quality but they appear to be as good as OEM so far.03/05/15 Now six months after purchase, time for an update. It is always on the camera, feels strange if I take it off now. It is really working well. No problems whatsoever. Standing up very well to the use it gets and the batteries are good too. Two members of my camera club have bought the grip after my recommendation and are very happy with it. Well worth the money spent on it.

For the 1/5th of the price of the OEM one, you can't go wrong with this. The built quality seems very good and is definitely up to par with the Canon 600D that I'm using it with.My only worry, it being a cheap knock-off, was whether the tripod socket in the grip would be strong enough. I attached the grip with the camera to my Black Rapid shoulder strap (it screws into the tripod socket) and gave it a good rocking and shaking. It's definitely strong enough. The description doesn't mention it, but my unit came with an infrared remote which allows to release the shutter without touching the camera. I already had a Canon one but it's nice to have a spare.I tested it and it worked perfectly. The camera looks great and the additional controls are fantastic for taking portraits. If you want to get a battery grip but haven't because of the price of the OEM one -- buy this cheap, perfectly working and quality alternative.

I bought this because I wanted to put two batteries in my Canon 700D so I don't have to keep stopping to change them when I'm out taking loads of photos and so I don't have to remember to bring two batteries with me. It does add a little bit of weight to the camera but it's not as heavy as I thought it would be and it looks like something that Canon has made for the Camera and you can't even tell that it's not a Canon product.I would highly recommend this after using it for a couple of days especially for less than £30 to basically double the battery life of your camera and it will save me loads of time having to stop to change batteries or have to remember to take spare batteries with me.I have used the grip when taking portrait photos and it works really well, the buttons work well as expected and it.

This is an OEM copy of the Canon battery grip. It works perfectly, easy to fit (what was the other reviewer trying to do?) and is intuitive to use. I've fitted two high capacity OEM batteries as well, rather than using disposables. Again, easy to load the batteries. This does make the camera bulky and heavier but, as so many others confirm, it's easy to get used to and the power is likely to outdo the SD card capacity now. Well-built, perfectly matches the finish of my EOS 600D and easy to fit and use. Buy one! 6 months later and I must add to this review. This product is excellent. Hundreds of exposures later in the tropics and it needed no recharging. Used vertically all the additional buttons function perfectly.Really pleased with this purchase. As I said earlier, buy one!

The first thing you have to be aware of is this is not a canon product and carries a price tag to represent this. This is not a bad thing though. The build quality is solid enough and feels good in the hand however only time will tell how well it will last although i'm confident it will do well for years to come. The key shutter button is as good as my 700Ds one and feels good to use with good actuation. Click wheel feels good and the unit feels secure when attached to the camera. This is a great alternative to the canon grip and is a better option for the 700D based upon the price of the camera itself.I feel the money you save on this grip over the buying canon one can be better used to purchase some better glass that will actually effect the picture quality.

Really impressed with this.Great quality and less than twenty quid - unbelievable.Fitted it onto my 700d with no issues. You just need to pull off the battery cover flap, but there is even somewhere to store it within the grip so you know where it is when you need it again - nice touch.Had a slight worry as I like to use back button focusing, but for use in portrait orientation, it has a selection of buttons which duplicate the ones on the camera so no problems. It will work with just one LP-E8 battery inserted, so you can try it out for a while and if you don't get on with it (it is a bit bulky)you will have only wasted twenty quid.Looks like part of the original camera when fitted. If your think you need/want one - Just buy it!

The grip fits into the existing battery slot and through a connecction inside the camera enables the grip to have all the same functionality as the camers itself (should you want it). You can turn the extra buttons on or off as you want. It comes with 2 adapters for different types of battery - which is great - I use 2x LP-E8's - they last a really long time. It adds quite a bit of weight to the camera, so if you arne't shooting from a tripod this might be a factor. It looses 1 star because it only has one hole in the bottom to attach to the tripod or whatever you are using - it doesn thave a second little hole for the stabiliser "plug" that some tripods come with to ensure that the camera issquarely attached.

I got this grip for my 600D. Always wanted one but was never willing to pay those rediculous Canon prices for the genuine article; not for the limited benifits it would bring anyway. At £20 you can't go wrong; the build quality isn't that of Canon's but you would'nt really expect it for that money. The finish of the plastic casing is slightly different to the camera body, but I can live with that for such a massive saving. So far everything appears to work fine, would seriously recomend. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is purely down to the plastic not quite matching, it has more of a sheen to its finish than the 600D camera body; that's all.
