I have a funny story about this gadget.I had 4 doors I needed to shave the bottom off of. I didn't want to spend too much so I decided to get this instead of a powered planer. I ordered this and basically got laughed at because I was told by a "experienced" DIY person it was inadequate. This person arranged for another guy with an electric planer to turn up on the day I was doing my doors. Taking the first door and getting it ready for the guy with the electric planer he began cutting the edge off. Whoops! He managed to suck up the cloth the door was resting on... it was lodged inside so badly. After a lot of cussing and the old, "this has never happened to me in 40 years..",he began taking his planer apart. After 15minutes. Rather then wait for him I got this little Stanley Block Plane out and began using it. One done, Two done. So easy to use I had 4 done and hung in the next 30 minutes whilst the guy was still using long nose plyers to get all the cloth out.Moral of the story. Sometimes you just have to trust your own instinct.

Bought this as I had a door in my new house that had either swollen or been fitted badly. It needed a few ml taken off. I was going to buy a wood plane but they’re pricey considering I probably wouldn’t use it that often so I came across this and thought I’d give it a try since it’s cheap enough. Its not your typical plane, It’s more like a cheese grater but for for wood... so badly advertised but it worked in my favour as it’s exactly what I needed and saved me money. it’s easy to use - you simply rub it across the wood and it’s shaves it off. Study and comfortable to hold. Worked well and didn’t damage my door. Just needed to sand it with some sand paper afterwards to smoothen it up as it does a rough job.and jobs a good en’! I’m not sure how long the blade would last, I’d assume it would get blunt over time and need replaced. However going off the price of the tool itself, the replacement blades should be cheap enough. Either way I’m impressed for the price!Highly recommend this handy little tool!

Yes what can i say this item is so good some one entered my home and stole it before i could use it. A piece of shinny kit.Ive had problems over 40 years with a former freemason police officer whom was envovled in armed bank raids whilst a member of West Midlands serious crime squad the Judge closed the squad down because it was envovled in serious crime. As a former special forces hes got other health issues and is volatile and dangerous police wont do a thing since hes one of their own.Top people . As a vice squad officer he was a pimp for a local prostitute.Hes also a Christian church pastor with the ability to walk on water give any one his own light for money of course. This item was so good i got 3 more from other sources to replace the one stolen.Like Warwickshire police say we dont want to know.

I bought this to trim the bottom of a door that wouldn't close fully due to the threshold strip. The plane, as others have mentioned, is not your typical plane as it is more like a cheese grater. The 'grater' can be removed and repositioned (ie turned around) depending on what feels comfortable for you when you are planing. The plane is fairly small, less than 20cm and is the width of a standard door frame. It's a little uncomfortable to hold when in use. It took around 10 mins to plane the bottom of the door by 2mm.I would recommend this plane if you have a small job and fairly simple job, but if you likely to use a plane more regularly, I would recommend going for a sturdy plane, that has a blade as opposed to a 'grater' (£20+)

Arrived yesterday. The front door had swollen due to the recent hot weather and was unable to close without brute force. Used the tool to shave a bit off the top and side. The tool is easy to use, sharp and the handle is comfortable to grip and feels secure in your hand. A little more pressure is needed if the wood has gloss paint on it though, otherwise it glides effortlessly over small areas of wood. Job done in under 5 minutes. I cannot yet comment on how many uses I can expect before it becomes blunt. If/when blunt the blade (which resembles the finer edge of a cheese grater) mayneed replacing as I can't see how this type of surface can be sharpened. Or perhaps like a cheese grater it doesn't blunt!!!Worth every penny anyway!

Within two minutes of unpacking this plane, I had done exactly what I wanted to do which was shave a couple of millimetres off the bottom vertical side of a door that kept catching. I left the door on its hinges which is probably what contributed to the speedy finish but it didn't cause me any problems in doing so.Because the file isn't smooth (not sure whether it's supposed to be for the job it does), I initially felt a bit unsure as I was dragging it down the door, but it only took about 10 drags down of the plane to do the job. It left the side of the door smooth so I only need to touch up with paint and job done. And to think I was going to engage the services of a handyperson/carpenter to do this!

As a RC Airplane Model maker, I was sad to recently lose my Razor Plane,I found this tool as a possible budget replacement and found it is brilliant for trimming Plywood rib edges etc, prior to final sanding. You can easily set the blade for regular or draw planing. I use mine a draw plane, which gives me greater control on the cut.For my light jobs it is ergonomic and durable. Its bight Yellow handle makes it easy to spot on the bench, toolbox or rack. A handle hole allows it to be easily hung on a storage cuphook.Overall, based on its big brother Surform tool. which I have used for decades, this baby works and is fantastic value for money.

Pros:- Light; Good for shaving off small amounts of woodCons:- Pretty hard work - you have to press quite hard and keep it clean. Good for edges - for instance if you are trimming a door to stop it sticking I found it best to angle trim the edge first and then move across the surface reducing the angle as you go. It would be - and is - hard work to traverse the whole door edge unless the wood is soft. It doesn’t work so well if you are trying just to take some measure of wood off a flat surface.Nevertheless it did what I needed and I got two previously jammed doors to close properly so it was definitely worth buying in my case.

I absolutely love this! My back door kept sticking and I came across this when searching for a plane. I thought for the money I can't go wrong....and boy was I right. It sorted the back door and the pantry door. There is a nack to the angle you hold it to get the best results but its literally a tilt of the wrist. This is now my fave wee tool! Just have to buy some replacement blades. I've tried already, and the blade part is really easy to remove. The only thing that could possibly make it better, is if it shaved my fat off too lol

I had one door that never closed properly after having carpets fitted, and had tried several times to smooth down the catching part with sandpaper blocks - all I achieved was an aching arm and a pile of dust at the foot of the door. I saw this tool for just a couple of quid on Amazon and thought it had to be worth the investment - and five minutes after delivery, I had the job done! Easy. Maybe not the most robust tool I ever bought (it's just a piece of plastic, at the end of the day), but nonetheless it suited my needs exactly.

After having new doors fitted throughout the house, a couple of them needed an inside edge trimming down a little. This surform allowed us to trim in place, with minimum mess and a chance for my wife to acquire another new tool. Maybe it will be used again, maybe not but for the price it was well worth investing in as after twenty minutes work the doors all fit to perfection. I can't recommend it highly enough for simple quick jobs. In fact for larger jobs I'm investing in the larger one.

I used this to adjust a door. I mean, it takes a while but it does get there eventually. I don't understand people complaining that it's not a plane or that it's slow. Look at the price. It does a decent job if you're prepared to put in a bit of effort and if you just need to do one job, it's perfect. If I was a joiner, or had to do this kind of thing regularly, then yes, there are much better tools out there but if you need something cheap and easy to use, then this is ideal.

I used this planer to shorten a wardrobe door by a few millimetres as it was continuously scraping against the bottom. The planer worked well, however was slightly time consuming, but this is as you'd expect with a hand-planer. Overall I spent around 15 minutes to shave off around 2-3mm of material, and as others state, it's advised you remember to empty the planer of the wood shavings.Would recommend this for simple DIY purposes, however, nothing more than that.

Very small and light plane which can be used one handed on awkward surfaces and angles. I used it to take a couple of millimetres off the edge of a loft hatch and it works perfectly leaving a surface that didn't even need to be sanded. It's built cheaply but that's reflected in the price and is necessary to keep the weight down. The planing surface is like a cheese grater and can be reversed depending on which direction you want to plane.

Pay for Stanley and you're paying for the best and that's what you'll get. Keep it away from water or moisture and you'll be able to use this for years. Absolutely excellent design and quality. Easy to tension and the tensioners are plenty robust enough despite what some reviewers say. Be careful to respect the cutting edge so you don't cut yourself - I managed to get an abrasion despite knowing how sharp it was!
