The plane body is pretty good. The base is slightly out of flat, but probably OK for general jobbing work The adjustment mechanism is a little wobbly, but again quite useable. The blade however is in a horrible state out of the box (and looking around this seems general, not just mine). However a little time on appropriate oil stones to flatten the back, and re-establish the cutting edge produced a nice blade. It does seem the steel of the blade is OK, just poorly finished out of the box.For the price however I was happy to spend an hour setting up the blade and end up with a useable plane for very little money. Remember, you will need to sharpen it periodicaly anyway,so once more before you start using it is not a bad compromise. If you need to learn how, Google Paul Sellers and watch his instructions on refurbishing a plane, it will teach you everything you need to know.Overall, a bargain if you put the work inRead full review...

I don't write many reviews but this deserves one. I needed a cheap wood planer to fix an internal garage door I knocked through and fit couple years back which had settled and was a pain to close and lock.I wasn't expecting much and to be honest would have been happy with disposing of it after this job for the price. First impression was that it felt pretty good quality and had a decent amount of weight behind it!Blade was very sharp and once adjusted it planed wood off the solid fireproof garage door like butter!! It did the job required in 5 minutes and not only that I don't need to bin it :)Far too often people moan about poor quality...maybe should spend was a professional would on one of these I.e.around the £100 mark. For the price I paid, a little over £10 inc delivery it's a bloody bargain and I definitely recommend it for the average DIYer.

When buying a plane in this price range you expect to have to sharpen the blade and some effort might be required to flatten the sole. This plane certainly required said extra effort, which thankfully turned out to be time well invested. I can now get nice long thin shavings the full width of my blade, and once properly sharpened it needs minimal effort in maintaining its edge. Because of this I’ve upgraded my review from 4 stars to 5. I'm very new to woodworking and if I can keep this blade sharp anyone can, and there’s a couple of great videos about flattening its sole. I only have 2 other bench planes to compare it to due to my limited experience, but as far as I can tell corrugated soles don’t make h’pence of difference.

I'm always suprised at how your can get quality tool so cheap these days. This is no exception. Hand planes are not things that work out the box - please don't think it will work straight away, watch a great video on YouTube by Rag and Bone Brown - he'll talk you through sharpening (using cheap stones, compound, honing guide etc), also how to set it up. Its VERY rewarding when you use this and start getting fine curls from your piece of wood. I tend to use this so much now I know what I am doing with it. I guess they've had to cut corners with the quality of steel, so a professional may say they need more frequent sharpening, but its seems to be sharp after some pretty heavy use. I love it.

I have this plane and felt after reading reviews compelled to write this:If you don't know how to adjust / sharpen / (or in some cases) use a hand plane; take a course, learn how to first before buying this (or any) plane. Then you won't need instructions on how to adjust it "bigboy" and you'll know that almost all but the most expensive hand planes need a bit of sharpening before use "Lexx", and we won't have to read inane (and incorrect) drivel from people who really shouldn't be near sharp objects. For prospective buyers; Buy this plane, give it some tlc, lap the base 1st, take out and see to the blade next, re-assemble get yer wood and enjoy (and save cash too!) Not hard really.

this is my first plane, its well built and good quality,i watched youtube videos to learn how to use it,its easier then you think.ive used it for making wooden pallets nice and smooth,i would recommend you buy sharpenstones/whetstones to go with it,as you will need to sharpen it after a good use.this deos not reflect porrly on this plane,no matter what planes you have if you use it alot it will need sharpening, you could also use different grits of sandpaper to sharpen it,and buy different grits of whetstone, you can get different grits bundle for about £30 on amazon

My first plane, my first time using a plane. I needed to ease a door so thought I would buy a cheap plane (£11.07). It arrived rust free because happily it had been covered in oil, I stripped it down and gave it a quick clean, got re-assembly instructions on the internet and after a couple of errors I now have a door that fits. The blade was VERY sharp on arrival and still cutting very nicely. Yes the handles were loose but at this price you can afford to buy a screwdriver to tighten them.

I bought this plane based on the other review comments and I'm glad I did. I'm a very basic diy'er so need something that's easy to use but well made. This fits the bill as it's pretty easy to adjust the blade and didn't need much sharpening. I managed to plane the side of a door with relative ease. The handle wobbles slightly but doesn't have an adverse affect as it feels pretty sturdy when planing. I'll be using it occasionally so let's hope it's reliable but so far so good.

Lovely wieght and easy to adjust settings to obtain the finish I required on my project. No fiddly bits and no nonsense makes this a must for any DIY enthusiast to finish of those rough edges or to take of a few mm here and there.Came in a sealed bag within a box to prevent any damage during transit and to protect the blade from rusting from and damp storage conditions. I enjoyed using this and recommend this for novice or professional on a budget.

I eventually got tired of constantly wandering around always needing a plane to do things, not needing a powerful electric type I purchased this, love it, the blade is quite sharp so be careful but works a treat, its compact enough to get the annoying fiddly little jobs out of the way, but also big enough to tackle some medium sized jobs like skirting boards of door edges. Sturdy and well made, a good little plane for the money

I needed to take a few mm off an exterior door that had swelled during the winter, and this was perfect for the job. I'm not sure what a seasoned carpenter would make of it, but for me, I was able to control the speed and depth of each pass, slowly taking off enough wood to allow the door not to stick.Calibration was quite fiddly, and I'm still not sure if I've done it correctly, but again, I'm no expert!

I got this plane to take the sharp edge of some garden furniture. It did the job perfectly. The blade adjustment is fantastic, It meant I could take a really small amount of timber off at a time without taking chucks out of the material. My only negative is that when it arrived, it was boxed but completely covered in oil! Really good product for the price, bargain - would definitely recommend.

This is a great value plane compared with the "Big Name" equivalent.I had a small problem with the first one delivered, but it was uplifted and a replacement was received within 2 days. Amazon's performance was absolutely brilliant and so efficient, it was amazing.I am now using the new plane with no problems at all.Regards,JC. Dalgety Bay.

Great value for the money. But needs heavy tuning. Sole needs to be flattened, blade too. Sole was near to OK, but blade was really paining job. But after sharpening I have nice shavings. Only one issue is still there. Frog cannot be moved front enough to close mouth more. Frog's screws are on their limit. To move it more needs some milling.

Pretty pleased with its quality even though it is a pretty cheap tool.Only issue I have found is the blade seems a little soft, visible central wear after smoothing onne large jointed board of oak.But perfectly acceptable for the cost, and the blade is easily upgraded for another brand that shares the same fitment style.
