I bought this plane knowing it isn't top of the range but it was at the limit of my price range! I'm not disappointed and am really enjoying using it. It is well made, solid and good quality. I'm a novice plane-user and felt a little daunted by it, as I'd read negative reviews which said how long it took to set up.I think the key is, accept you need to spend a good bit of time setting it up before use, but enjoy learning about it too.Firstly the blade needs honing from 25° to 30°. And to do that you'll need to learn all components. Instructions are OK, but not ideal. So I checked out Matt Estleas YouTube channel, one of his videos titled "how to get silky smooth shavings from a plane".He has in fact 7 videos on settings up planes. He explains everything brilliantly and now my plane is set up perfectly❤️ It took a couple of hours perhaps but they were well spent and very pleasant!

Toyed with the idea of an electric plane, but reviews so good for this product, and I remember my dad having a quality plane, that I chose this. Please I did. Solid, easy to adjust, nice cut and so much more tactile than an electric.Horses for courses, and I might sway to the dark side in the future for a door bottom, but for delicate jobs and thosse where I want greater control on what I'm doing this fits the bill for all budding joiners

This is a quality hand plane in overall. I give 4 star because the cap iron on my one (which I bought a few weeks ago) had a very rough finish at the front contact with cutter which sometimes traps wood chips when in a fine setting (very annoying). So I had to sand down and polish the front contact edge of the cap iron with sandpapers (240 to 2000 grades). Now the problem disappeared and it is a definitely nice hand plane.

A good plane but only if you are willing to out hours into setting it up.The sole will need flattening, the frog contact areas smoothing and blade will need to be sharpened.Flattening the sole is hours of work on its own as the finish leaves a lot to be desired but at this price point you should expect nothing less.Once properly set up it will happily take smooth wafer thin shavings.

This is very much the traditional tool that has been in use for generations. And whilst electirc versions may have somewhat taken over, for fine work and control you just can't beat the real thing. I guess that's why they are still made and sold. As always with tools, buy the best you can afford, and this is a quality piece of kit. This is one tool that will last a lifetime.

Arrived next day on prime.Nicely made and finished as what you would expect from Stanley. The main grip is of course composite plastic and not wooden so the the feel and grip is slightly compromised but I knew if would be. I will used it only occasionally so I'm happy with that. Ive tried it out and it performs as I would expect.

I have only used it to scrub a door so far but a used it out of the box so not set it up probably yet. Though it did the job it was probably more work than it should have been with a sharper blade and accurate flat bottom. It is horrendous on end grain out of the box but it did the job, as no one will see the underside of a door.

Received the item in good packaging / condition after reading the instructions on honing / sharpening the blade pre ground to 25 degrees / 30 deg. It was not straight. Had to spend time Straightning & then honing the blade so it was even. Apart from that its a nice looking plane that should last some time/years.

This is a Stanley plane not the cheap types. It arrive the next day. I am not a carpenter but I do a lot of DIY to help my other half as she buys property to do up to rent or to sell. Make sure you sharpen the blades before you use it, look after it and keep it clean and it should last for a very long time.

Not as good as I plane I opened for 30 years which has gone missing but not too bad. The positives is that it is quite well made and the blade sharpens well. The negative is the plastic handles have a moulding seam that requires sanding down otherwise you will end up with scratches on your hands.

Just as anticipated. this is a replacement for one of my dad's planes that I must have dropped recently and cracked the throat. So it's good to have a plane that looks and feels like my old one. Well made and handles well. Don't like the plastic handles, but that's a minor detail.

Stanley planes are great, you always know you're getting a bit of quality with one, this one is no different. I prefer putting in the older blades in the newer models, the quality of the steel back then was better ;-) All round a good buy

It’s a sturdy well put together plane. Not quite as well finished as the 35 year old plane it replaced which was made in England. Still that’s seen as progress I suppose. Still achieve good results as a fine finishing tool.

Well made, but not as good as the old ones. Knob and handle are plastic and out of the box have rough moulding seams. Get an old one from ebay, with wooden handles - or make your own handles as I did.
