I have quite a few Stanley planes and loved them from the day I used them in Secondary School. where the woodwork teacher, who was and ex-cabinet maker, told the whole class that this was the make to buy and most importantly to "Use the right tool for the job".. that was 60 years ago !My dad too was heavily into woodwork and I still use some of his old tools, but modern ones are much nicer and generally easier to use.I do have the "standard block plane" but I struggled trying to plane some 'end grain' on a door and then decided it was about time to get the right tool for the job... so I stopped and this is what I purchased.When it arrived I opened it and was please to see it comes with a pouch to store it in,

This is brilliant with shaving flat the end grain of timber. Having a very sharp blade helps, using one hand to 'power' the plane forwards and the other to press down on the timber to ensure a planed flat surface. Can also use the plane to create a concave edge surface (used at an angle) that you could be using as a pattern for a thicker length of timber. Can still use the standard 30 and 25 degree sharpening angles. Would not be with our it.

Works well enough when sharpened. The sole isn't polished at all (and doesn't necessarily need to be) but the throat and depth adjustment work solidly enough. I don't think I'd buy one again. These aren't cheap and old ones can be picked up for a fraction of the price -- often not needing much more in the way of fettling to get them up to scratch.

Arrived very quickly (two working days) even with the free delivery. Packed extremely well. Plane is brilliant - did need to hone the blade to 30 degrees (but the instructions suggested that) and then that lovely, crisp schhhh sound as I tackled my quarter sawn oak. A very satisfied customer.

Adjustable in ways I hadn't had before. Good quality and a huge step up from the Stanley 102 block plane that I returned as poor. Would thoroughly recommend this one though. You do get what you pay for.

Same good build quality you would expect from any top Stanley product yes it is a bit more expensive than some but you can really feel the quality and it will last for years if looked after

I haven't used this, particular plane yet, but I am familiar with Stanley block planes, and as this is identical, and there is no apparent damage, I don't anticipate any surprises.

I have never used a block plane before but this one made the task effortless! Sharp and easy to set up this is an excellent plane.
