OK so it does look a little cheap - but it is 1/2 half of very similar products on this site - and you can always connect your expensive voltmeter in parallel for a better reading. You are basically paying for the load resistor (in the heatsink you see) to load the car battery. It is very useful to take with you if you need to replace a failed battery under warranty and they try to "wiggle out" by testing it in such a way (i.e. not loaded) to say it is working perfectly! I would take the voltmeter too just in case.In my case - this device helped replace a battery so it is worth it (cheaper then a battery); it would not be worth paying 2x for a better one as that would be almost the price of anew battery thus why bother - might as well buy the new battery and be done with it.

I bought this purely to use as a drop tester. I have a modern battery analyser/diagnostic tool which cost over £100 but I don't think they are as good when it comes to checking a batteries capacity under load. After reading some reviews online it didn't make sense spending twice or three times as much for something that did exactly the same job as this did. The 3 spare batteries I have (for hobbies) all showed OK on my modern tool but when this was connected to them it soon identified that all 3 are getting past their best (as I suspected) when put under the heavy load this tester can subject a battery to. Well worth having at the price in my opinion.FWIW I worked in the motor trade for 40 years so speak from experience.

This product is ideal for me, it is an old school method of testing battery performance and replicates a test we used to do when i worked in a garage 30 years ago.Basically its a 100amp resister with a built in volt meter. The resister is operated on by the switch for a maximum of 10 seconds, whilst monitoring the battery performance from the volt meter allowing you to determine if the battery is ok or not.My son in law has also used this device you check his battery, works great. It will certainly tell you if your battery is in need of replacement. You must ensure the battery is fully charged before the test.

Only 4 stars for accuracy because I’m not an expert....but this is a monster of a bit of kit...at least a foot long....bought to test the load on a 14.4v bike battery.....starter and solenoid chattering on start up, wouldn’t start......yep this confirmed what the experts said....just because you have a reading of 14.4volts in a battery doesn’t mean it’s not knackered....sure enough, confirmed battery was bad. For the price, why bother with anything more expensive...did the job....I’ll get another battery and update this review to confirm if reading any good....

I bought this jump charger because we have a second car which seems to use more than average current when not being used, and as I often don't use the car for 2 - 3 week at a time, the battery is often flat. With the Silverline jump charger It starts every time. I just leave it plugged into the mains and it's always there ready. Brilliant! It'll also trickle charge the battery or blow your tyres up, but I haven't tried that yet. All this for a few quid. In my opinion, it's amazing value.

Very rugged and simple tool that does the job it is designed for perfectly: Shows the voltage of the battery, static and under load (the switch brings a resistance circuit into play that simulates running the starter motor) showing an acceptable range for a given load.I was able to determine that my solar panel was overcharging the battery, and that I needed a solar controller to protect it.Indispensable kit for troubleshooting battery problems!

This meter stood up to every test specified. For its price it did not shame itself and gave very satisfactory and accurate readings.Voltage readings were checked against those given by a high quality fluke multimeter. The meter window and scale are very clear & easy on the eye.It is a little lightweight and would not fare to well against accidental batterings, but if given to good care i would say it will last ok...Well worth the money.

The Silverline 282625 Battery and Charging System Tester 6 V and 12 V works exactly as expected. Price is great. Readings on gauge are easy to read and understand. Leads get a tiny bit hot, but that is to be expected. I'm more used to the higher rated units, but this one does the same job. Higher rated units literally cause a faulty cell to boil like a kettle. This is more manageable way to diagnose a faulty lead acid battery cell.

For anyone with a multiplicity of batteries, in my case cars, boat and golf trollies, this is an essential piece of kit. I used it on the very first day it arrived on a friends car which had failed to start. Revealed his charging system was faulty, saved him buying a new battery. This tester appears robust and well made and is excellent value for money. An essential meter to have in your garage.

Used this to test a couple of car batteries... one that was old, and one that I think had failed recently. This basically applies a load (a heater element) to the battery and monitors the drop in voltage on a dial. Works just fine, but feels rather flimsy. The "load switch" for example, is quite loose. No idea why there is a "warmth" category in the review, so picked the middle for that one!

Bought this to confirm the status of my Punto stop start battery as a new battery is over £125. It was easy to use following the instructions given. Also plenty of utube video on using them. It confirmed it needed replacing. I also used it on my neighbours car battery and saved him replacing the alternator as it proved it was ok. His battery was knackered. So its proved its worth already.

THIS IS AN AWSOM ITEM DOES WHAT IT SHOULD IT SAVES ME A LOT OF MONIE AS GET A LOT OF MOBILITY SCOOTER FAULTS AND THE BATTERY IS THE FIRST THING I CHECK AND 9-10 TIMES IT IS SO IT EVEN SAVES THE CUSTOMER AS WELL FOR TIME AND LABOUR BUT THEY DO GET A BIG SHOCK WHEN I TELL THEM HOW MUCH THE BATTERIES WILL COST SO ALL GOOD IN THE END THANKS SILVERLINE FOR ANOTHER GOOD ITEM KEEP IT UP.

The item is very cheap construction and feels very cheap and tinny and mine arrived with a cracked screen but it does work to test your battery voltage and also crank voltage drop and alternator charge so it does what it says on the tin so for me that is the main thing..It is basically a large multimeter with a large metal resistance wire for crank drop testing.

FOR A VERY SPECIALIZED INSTRUMENT, THIS DOES EXACTLY WHAT IT CLAIMS AT AN EXTREMELY MODEST PRICE. YES, IT DOES GIVE OFF SMOKE WHEN USED FOR THE FIRST TIME, BUT THAT IS ONLY BECAUSE THE ELEMENT HAS TO BURN IN, EXACTLY LIKE AN OLD FASHIONED ELECTRIC BAR HEATER WOULD DO. OTHERWISE IT'S ALL VERY SIMPLE AND SEEMS REASONABLY RUGGED FOR DOMESTIC USE.

This battery tester feels well made and shows the battery voltage both off load and under load. The meter will also give an approximation of the CCA (cold cranking amps) of the battery. It does of course help if you know this figure for your particular battery but a quick search on the internet should provide this information.
