For ages I have searched and bought battery testers which only needed one hand to use them, because I now have only a little use in fingers of one hand. Only two had moulded bodies to hold batteries of then differing sizes and those measured only with bars or a needle. Then I found this gem. Pricey after what I’ve spent on the others, but such great value and really good.I read in one review tgat the 9volt internal battery (supplied) was was a tight fit and someone else said there us no switch to save having to replace it regularly. I’m mystified by that because I see no reason why it should be draining all the time when not in use, but I bought in readiness some Velcro straps and put one under the battery to be able to pull it out with that strap.I must say I don’t think the battery would have been a tight fit since the two thicknesses of velcro - one either side of the battery - fitted snugly, so there was just room for that, and also I used not the battery supplied but a rechargeable one, which are usually a tiny bit bigger than non-rechargeable one’s in case it does drain. We will see but why should it?The tester itself is sturdy, the instructions well written and I thought clear and the packaging friendly, the two parts separating once the sellotape was cut. All in all a great purchase! I just wish I’d seen it before buying all those other ones....

Ive been meaning to make something like this for years and have always been too busy. Great little de ice, easy to use and accurate. I really like the alkali lithium indication too (you need to know this for very low drain applications which are only suitable for the lithium). The simple scale of dead, nearly dead, half way, got life and full is a great way to do this with colour leds. Its small and easy to use in your palm of your hand or on a bemch. It has a tiny battery compartment in the back for its own power supply as it doesnt derive that from the battery under test. The battery this comes with is 100% new and you pull a tab to activate it. Replacement Battery is CR1620 3V lithium.I think this is both well designed and well made and a must have item, happy to highly recommend, Andrew

This cheap-end tester is a little tricky to use, having to snare the battery between the two arms, but you quickly get used to it. I've tried it with several different sizes of alkaline batteries now and it works very well within reasonable margins. It's not quite as accurate or consistent as more expensive offerings, but serves a purpose for day to day checking of batteries you find loose in a drawer, or testing those in a non-working gadget to see if they're flat; it gives you a quick, clear idea of whether they're dead or still have some life. It would be nice if felt a bit more solid, but in reality it's fine if you treat it sensibly, and you can't really complain at the price. Overall, not perfect, but a handy addition to the kitchen drawer at £3.95.

This is very expensive for a battery checker, but well worth the money being pretty much a professional unit. Most of the cheap battery testers you can buy just measure voltage. But the power and life of a battery depends as much on the current drawn as the voltage. The Ansmann checks the battery under load and give you a digital readout of both the voltage and the percentage life left in a battery. In the long run,it can actually save you money - for example, you can use a battery longer with the assurance it has enough life left. Or maybe only one or two batteries need to be replaced in a device using several batteries. The unit also appears to be rugged and is constructed to a high standard.

Quite simply, I do not know of a better battery performance measuring meter. I have 2 of these Ansmann Energy Checkers, the first one was purchased 2 or 3 decades ago. They have not changed in appearance in all that time which proves it has a classically good design. The meter is self calibrating and therefore easy to use. It is also economical to run because I have yet to replace the operating battery in my first Ansmann Energy Checker. I have found it to be a reliable instrument and it is built to withstand rough treatment. I have 2 of these meters because the original is continually being borrowed by my brother and by friends. I now have my own checker exclusively for my own use.

This product is well worth the money. It was a little light on the instructions but can test virtually any common battery - AA's, AAA's, D's, C's & Square 9V. If, like me, you salvage batteries from things you're throwing away but believe the batteries are still good, well this tester can prove it. Clear indication on whether the battery is good, weak or whether it should be replaced. If you know the batteries are good then any fault lies with the item the batteries were in! As I found recently when a smoke detector kept beeping indication the battery was low (although I did also check with a new battery and it still beeped).

Very good battery condition checker - expensive, but versatile and I've found it extremely useful for weeding out suspect batteries. I did find the method for testing cylindrical batteries (AA, AAA etc) slightly counter-intuitive, though i.e. you have to place the positive terminal of the battery on the tester's terminal, whereas I was expecting to put the battery "right-side up" on the tester. But maybe my brain is wired upside down ;-)This top-of-the-range version has been an excellent buy for me - so much easier to use than its cheaper Energy Check (sans LCD) stablemate:

This is one of the most sophisticated battery testers on the market today. It can test a very wide range of batteries includingAAA/AA/C/D NiCd and NiMHAAA/AA/C/D Alkaline9V PP3A23CR-V3CR123/CR2and several others. The LCD display shows the battery charge level in 10% intervals followed by the battery voltage. It requires a 9V PP3 battery that is supplied with the unit. There is a self test function that shows the internal battery charge level and voltage. The unit is approximately 19cm x 10cm x 3.5cmIts is blue metallic in colour with silver bezel.

The Ansmann 4000392 Energy check LCD is a great product which can be used to check the level of charge left in most types of batteries, whether they be traditional one use, rechargeable or button cell type batteries, the unit has an option to self check the internal 9v battery that powers the unit,it is simplicity itself to use and indicates via the LCD display the charge remaining as a percentage, and the actual voltage the battery has remaining, the cost for the product is quite high but the tester should last a very long time,I was really pleased with it.

Does what it says it does, but no good for 18650'sWhy not? In hind sight I wouldn't have bought it as I stupidly thought I could put my 18650 batteries on the CR123 testing port. You can but they will always read 100% power even when half charged because of the assumed capacity of a cr123 is less than half if not a third of an 18650. They Missed a trick on this product. If you want to know the charge of a 18650 battery, buy the dual channel xtar charger with the digital voltage display for 2cells it's awesome

The first one that i bought came with a dead battery, so it was probably a returned item or it was very old stock hence the battery being dead, but Amazon being decent sent me out this one for free which works perfectly and told me to keep the other rather than send it back (which would have served no purpose) so all in all a great service from Amazon and also saved me time in sending this one out so quickly.thank you to the staff for caring about their customersVery much appreciated.

The tester runs on a 9-volt battery (supplied) and is very easy to use. Each front slot is for a different type (voltage) of battery and the labels are clear and easy to read. The readout tells you the percentage of battery life left, to the nearest 10%, so there are 10 possible readings whereas many other types have only 3 readings. Feels solidly constructed and well made. It's more expensive than other types, but it's also much better so I guess you get what you pay for.

I was able to go through a vast collection of unknown button cells and find out if any were worth keeping. This Button Cell tester is fairly obvious to use. It has its own button cell to provide light to the LED's.It tests both Alkaline 1.5v or Lithium 3v and I presume even rechargeable button cells.I don't know how it identifies whether the cell is alkaline or lithium if they both happened to be 1.5 volts. For the price a good little gadget.

I have just bought another one of these for my son.Works really well. Often you find a battery that has the right voltage (which most simple testers show) but the capacity is low. So either the battery needs more charging, or discharging followed by recharging or the battery is nearing the end of its life.An excellent tool and simple to use and understand. It can measure lots of different types of battery which is a plus.

Simple to use and has already saved me money. I use several battery powered gadgets and was surprised to find that just because a gadget stops working doesn't mean that all of the batteries are dead. I can now carry on using part used batteries in non essential appliances. Don't be put off by the purchase price, you will quickly make savings by being able to seperate dud batteries from good ones.
