It's important that tyres are safe and legal but we're not made of money.I have always mistrusted steel pen gauges as they are difficult to read and I am never sure I've got it right.This digital reader saves the uncertainty and is easy to use. Set it to millimetres/inches and position the gauge over the tyre.Push the probe into the tread so the hilt rests on the tyre surface and the probe reaches the bottom of the groove. I purchased this tyre depth gauge and I have used it on my tyres some days ago, and it works perfectly! I used to send my car into the garage to have my tyre depths measured; and because they were busy, this process would take all day long. But, with this gauge, all I need to do is to turn my front my wheels and easily measure the depth of the tyres, a job that only minutes to do. Just push the gauge to its maximum extent and then place the gauge onto the tyre in question and push down on to the tyre to get the best results. That's it, its that easy!

I saw a depth gauge on Rockler's site (US), wondered if there was a similar UK product and Google brought me this one. I could not tell much from the web page but at that price it was worth buying just to find out what it was like, though I feared it would be a cheap plastic job. It is plastic but precise engineering plastic. It came complete with battery in spite of the web site saying it was not included. It is sensitive, stable and accurate and measures depths up to around an inch, perfect for my woodworking as well as tyre treads.

Looks identical to the Draper one so I bought this as it's cheaper. Comes with battery and used it straightaway to measure some tyre threads. Seems to give accurate and instantaneous reading and the large LCD is easy to read which is why I think it's worth paying more for digital gauge. The mechanism is a bit stiff but it does help to hold the depth pin in place if you need to read it afterwards. The unit feels plasticky so probably need to handle with care. Great buy overall and delivered within 48 hours from Amazon too!

Good wee Tyre depth gauge for the tool box. As others have stated it, any slight movement and it will turn on but if stores somewhere stationary should not be a problem. As with all digital gauges it accurate to a certain point but for the Money I give it 5 stars because build quality is alright for what it is, screen/display is very clear and its accurate to a decent point as with all measuring gauges a wee bit of common sense and knowledge will go a long way.

On recieving the depth gauge (which was replacing a broken metal one)i was pleasently surprised at the qaulity and build of the gauge.It is built of an industrial qaulity plastic and is very robust.On using the gauge i found it very clear and has an automatic switch off function when not in use thus saving the battery life/auto zero when switched on,none ofwhich were options on the much more expensive metal gauge.

great little gauge, when you zero the gauge be sure to press it against something flat (like a window) and push the bar out.if you pull the bar right in and zero it, the bar slightly inside the gauge and your loss 0.5mm of measurement.does not sound a lot but with legal tread being 1.8 mm, would not take a lot to think your ok and in fact be under

If you are looking for a digital depth gauge, why spend more? This is a substantial unit not cheap plastic as I was expecting at the price. Just need to be careful where you store it as it is easy to inadvertently switch it on and flatten the battery!

This is an excellent product, which gives a convenient way of accurately measuring the depths in fiddly places where it is impossible to get rulers, calipers, etc. The battery was dead when it arrived, but with a new battery installed it worked fine.

Christmas present . Required for safety reasons and to check tyres of other cars which do not belong to me before I drive away. The driver is responsible for defective tyres and not the owner of the car.

Arrived with a flat battery. The product is great and seems accurate, but when you pay less than £10 for a product advertised as 'with battery' you do not expect to pay another £2 for a battery

does its job perfectly, people that complain about having to reset it every time, need to go back to school and figure out how much 0.1mm is ( hint about the size of their brains).

Gauge came complete with battery - only requiring you to pull out the strip of paper that is in place to stop the battery draining.Appears to be fairly accurate so far......

The only issue I have is that the information given for this article is wrong, it DOES include a battery, at least the one I purchased included a battery.
