I was a regular trail runner until an accident a couple of years ago which stopped me running for a while. I'd bought a pair of trail shoes from another well known sports brand without reading the specs and used them a couple of times before my accident. After that, I cleaned them and put them away. However, I decided recently to give the trail running a go again.Within 3 weeks of using my other trail shoes, I found out that they were for a pronator and not a supinator like me. This caused a few problems with my right soleus which threatened my pretty short return to trail running. I rarely got over 2k - 3k before the pain hit me. Lesson learned - research your product.I've always been a fan of Salomon footwear (I own walking boots, walking shoes and general use shoes) so thought I'd give the Speedcross range a go after some serious digging and reading specs. Amazon had the Speedcross 4 in the colour I wanted for £66 delivered so I duly ordered them and waited for them to come in with bated breath. They arrived as predicted by Amazon and I decided the following day to give them a run out in the fields. If these didn't solve the problem, nothing would...I ran 7k non stop (albeit slower than most readers would) without so much as a twinge in my right calf. I was waiting for the inevitable tightness followed by pain but it never happened. Happy boy... I've since completed another 5k trail run and am as happy again. In fact I'm looking forward to going out running in the fields again. The Speedcross 4 is insanely light (I'm sure that there are people out there who will identify even lighter trail footwear) and my initial opinion on build quality is superb. The shoes are supportive in the right places and I certainly don't feel restricted as some have reported. Yes, they are snug around the sides, but there's room in the toe box for me to flex my toes so I don't consider this an issue. I'm usually a 9 but bought a size 10 based on the excellent reviews I've been reading. The lacing system is quick and simple which is good for if the laces need tightening mid way through a run. The sole is grippy on gravel and dirt, but I've yet to try that out in the wet. I'd imagine that the soft compound wouldn't last long on tarmac roads and paths. Not a drama for me as I'm planning my mileage on foot and bridle paths. The sole seems to soak up quite a bit of the impact which again, is a delight.I'm a supinator and have found that these shoes offer support where its needed without sacrificing weight or quality. All in all I'm really impressed. Salomon quality delivered with the reliability of Amazon, what more could a nearly 50 year old returnee to trail running want?

I wear size 8.5 in almost all my shoes. I tried this on in a store before buying just to make sure. Previous reviews showed that about 80% of people stated that it was true to size. Initial fit feels very comfortable. There is some snugness around the midfoot. Toe box feels adequate with plenty of room. I would say that I have an average size/width foot. After walking around in them for a day or two, the heel feels slightly loose and overall, they feel slightly (minimally) on the larger side (only in the heel), however I don't think it will be an issue since feet may swell a little bit after racing. I don't think the looseness warrants going down in size though, so I'm glad that I stuck with the 8.5.Length seems appropriate. Overall, I would say that it fits to size. The laces are thin, but I like the lacing system. Will have to see how well they hold up. The shoe is very comfortable. Looks very sharp as well.UPDATE: used these for Boise Sprint Spartan Race. Grip was amazing. While I watched others slip and slide up and down the hill, I always felt like I had a great grip on the ground. No issues going over rocks, pebbles, packed ground and loose sand. Felt great. Did not drain particular easily, but again, it wasn't concerning and didn't feel squishy after running to the next obstacle. Love the lacing and tucking them under the tongue. I felt like the fit was great. Plenty of support, but also plenty of room in the toe box. I did not feel like my heel was sliding a lot. Best part about the shoes is probably the grip. It was amazing. The insole of the left shoe did bunch up on me after getting wet and then trying to control my descent on a hill. Overall, it held up extremely well. At the conclusion of the day, I washed them up and they look brand new!

I run about 5 miles a day usually. I live in Seattle so i need something waterproof to run in. Doesn't look like there even is such thing as a just a waterproof jogging shoe, the only thing i could find are waterproof trail running shoes. I guess shoe makers think it only rains in the woods? I figured I'd give trail runners a try since half my run is street and the other half trail. On the street: Aweful, these are not a hybrid shoe. The hard sole adds a big increase in shock, was hard on my knees. On wet streets they can get slippery. On the trail: Wonderful, decreased the shock impact, good grip, good support on uneven terrainWaterproof: A true waterproof shoe, I ran in rain and hit a lot of puddles, also just wore around town in the rain. No water touched my feet, excellent waterproofing.Look and feel: Excellent look, feel comfortable just walking. I don't like the laces, they don't distribute tightness well. These shoes are stiff. They are going to require a lot of breaking in before they are comfortable but i suspect once you do they will be very comfortable. I definitely wouldn't do any long hikes or runs without breaking them in early. I did a 5 mile run right out the box and it killed my feet. It has an elevated heel on it which made me run more on the balls of my feet and hurt my valves and back because i'm not use to it. Spend a good 10-15 miles breaking these in before you try and put them to the test.I'd recommend these shoes for short wet hikes or runs on trail only, or just for a waterproof shoe to wear in the rain. These were definitely not made for hard surface running.

I was after a pair of running shoes that would help me during this years tough mudder and was recommended Solomon speedcross as a must by the nice chaps on the forum. I went for this pair as I liked the look and the orange pair was quite a bit cheaper as I didn't care for the look as they were expected to get filthy anyway.Turns out I really liked the look of the orange anyways, they fitted perfectly, I'm a 9 and they fitted me perfectly. I proceded to wear them in on a few 6k runs and a park run which was half concrete and half mud. They are a pleasure to run in, I even shaved 1 minute off my PB while doing a park run. Although not ideal for concrete (which they are not designed for)they work perfectly off road.During tough mudder they remained comfortable and never did I have to tighten or readjust them. The easy tie laces kept banging around so I tucked the ends behind the tongue however the right one kept coming loose. Those who know tough mudder will know what your shoes go through, I give some credit for completing the course and obstacles to these trainers. They kept their grip and were comfortable when caked in mud or submerged in water, they didn't hold water very long and dried out quickly.Afterwards a quick blast from the hose and a wash in a washing machine and even though there is a slight loss of colour at the end of one of the shoes they look like new (Pictured). One minor thing and that after the race the laces won't easily pull through anymore and seem to get stuck. No regrets buying these, excellent purchase and will wear them again next year.

5' 8"130 lbsNarrow foot all aroundSize 8 in Asics, went with size 8 in salomonFirst of all the fit of these on me are amazing. Received these just in time for an intense 14 mile out and back day trip with a 9200 elevation gain (loose dirt at the bottom, sharp rock in the middle and shale at the top) and these functioned fantastically. After I got home I inspected the bottoms for wear. They looked perfect with an exception to the inner side of the right shoe. It looks like there is a manufactoring defect in the foam of the shoe and the rubber sole doesnt cover the bottom completely. My knees hurt pretty bad by the time I got home and decided I needed to break them in more so I went on a 10 mile walk. Now the knobs on the soles are starting to round over. What they are good for:Loose groundSteep surfacesVariable terrainWhat they are bad for:Pavement! You will be lucky to get a month out of themSandstone (have not tried but considering the pavement...)Likes:Laces. (The drawstring lace works fantastic) there is also a pouch in the tongue of the shoe to tuck the excessStickieness of the tredBreathableRubber extends about an inch up the side which prevents them from rippingFitDislikesTread life on hard surfacesDefect in right shoe (will most likely be the cause of failure)I will update this post once I wear them out

I finally wore out all of my Speedcross 3's and had to purchase a Speedcross 4. Pretty similar design, thank goodness. If you're a fan of the Speddcross 3, you'll recognize these 4's as an old friend.About the Speedcross series: Pros: Lightweight. I love the speed lace design. Excellent support. unbeatable traction. Good looks. Cons: they wear down fast when run on asphalt or concrete. They're TRAIL runners. Kind of like how aggressively treaded off-road tires wear faster than highway tires or non-DOT dirt bike tires wear down quickly when ridden on pavement. That's just the way things are.I personally run on both dirt trails and the road, but I feel the comfort of these Saloman's more than make up for not getting more than about five hundred miles out of them. After that, I wear them for just walking around.. They really maintain their good looks. I also have a pair of the Saloman Sense Ride runners. They actually last a little longer on pavement and still do exceptionally well trails.A point that's been brought up by others, these Saloman's are for an "average" to narrow foot. If you know you have a wide foot, you might want to try one on before buying. Yeah, I know, that means going to a real store, but it might be worth your while.

May say straight off, this is a beautiful shoe. This is my second pair in a different colour though. I however thought I was buying a gore tex running shoe. I later found that there are two models, Buyers beware, you must look for the symbol to the right hand side of the bullet point pictures to guarantee gore tex. If there is a tag then it is waterproof, however if there is not, then you got it, No it's not waterproof. I must say though size 8 must be in popular demand. In the gore tex version because I can't get them anywhere, In this colour that is, I must say though I think I will actually use these for casual ware & wait for the gore tex set come back. These are so good looking to trash on the hills & roads.Did I mention these are stunning looking & they are the best fitting, comfortable shoes off the internet I have ever bought. My First pair are still going well after two years only on park runs, grass & tarmac though, the only sighs of wear on the tread, to be expected the rest of the shoe, with a good wash look as good as new. I would truly recommend this shoe to the runner & the casual shoe wearer, for comfort & style. Thank you Salomon for a superb shoe.

Absolutely LOVE these shoes. They’re are phenomenally grippy and afternoon researching them and now testing them out for a couple weeks I think I’ll get a few years out of them easily.Arch support is Very high compared to what I’m used to. Had to wear them around the house a few days, hours at a time. The first time I put them on just sitting on the couch with my feet proper up they made my feet start hurting and go numb a bit.Slowly worked into them, even tried the wide version of the same shoe (but different color) and those actually hurt worse (don’t know why). The cut of the insole insert that comes with them didn’t seem cut right to be especially on the left foot.Idk what it is about myfeet and these shoes; the right fit just fine but the left was the trouble maker in the arch support.I’m gearing up for a 15-20mi trip through Big Bend National Park and needed some new rugged outdoor shoes. These are epic.Only problem is I wish I had learned about these and had been using them the last 10 years. Well worth the cost and think they’ll be more than capable of handling anything I throw at them!

If you have worn Speedcross 4 before, then you won't be interested in other people's opinions as you know that they are superb. The only reason to check here is to see if you think these are real or fake items. The pair I received are genuine and of excellent build quality. 66 Sovs at the time of purchase is great too. This is my 5th pair and I justify my purchasing by saying that they are for my mountain biking; the Contragrip gives excellent grip on platform pedals and I have endurance raced three races with them with less than a handful of slashed shins from slipped pedals - all my fault - not the shoes. However, I wear these shoes on a daily basis for all ambulatory activities and cannot fault anything except that the sole lugs wear down faster than one may expect. This characteristic I am happy to live with as the shoes are otherwise so good and perhaps an acceptable trade-off against their superb soft grip on rocks - a bit like Lewis Hamilton accepting a faster wear on his soft tyres is worth the extra grip...Summary; these are my 5th pair and will not be the last - I love them.

Like many indicated, if you are not use to these shoes they provide a bit of compression so they definitely feel tight the first time you put them on. But I bought these as performance shoes to play in an outdoor grass volleyball tournament and realized the value in the first game. While they are definitely a snug fit I had no issues of jamming my toes, blisters, etc. What I did get was insane traction and the ability to cover the entire court. I gained complete respect from our opponents with both congratulations and a strong desire from them to avoid placing a ball in my direction. I absolutely fell in love with these shoes for this function. I noticed some didn't like the added weight. For me I would trade a tiny bit of weight for the traction in a heart beat. The number of balls these shoes helped me get far out weighed any decrease in vertical I may have experienced. It's the day after they tourney and my feet are not soar at all. However, with the snugness I still enjoyed taking them off between matches and letting my feet breath.

My very first pair and I am in love with these shoes. I bought these for softball and they are by far the best show I have ever played in over the past 24 years of playing the sport. They transition great from infield to outfield, dry to wet conditions and hard infield to a sand pit! Traction is phenomenal and stability is amazing. I have had multiple knee surgeries and suffer from severe shin splints and chronic back pain. Shoes are a huge contributing factor to how all of those ailments behave and I can 100% say it has not aggravated or activated any of those issues. My first wear was for two full days of tournament play....forgot I even had them on! My feet were in no pain at the end of each day.Best part, they even stayed dry due to the waterproof area which was a savior through the rain we played in. The mud and water puddles just bead off.I bought these for my bf who plays as well and he is now a huge fan too. We are definitely ordering more pairs of the Speedcross 4!!!

Really like these shoes. I normally run on roads but have been visiting Cornwall recently (when lockdown allows) and running on coastal paths and fields.I run about 1km on road to get to the paths and the shoes are fine - feel a little odd as the grip moves on hard surfaces as they are quite “tall” but it is fine for shortish distances and the grip doesn’t seem to suffer for it.Once on fields and paths these shoes are brilliant even after a night of rain the grip is awesome, no sliding at all. I feel totally sure footed when running in them. The laces are great without the need to tie them and even without any warm up I didn’t get any blisters at all - first run in them was 11k and no pain or rubbing at all.Really comfortable. Will definitely be getting another pair when these wear out but think they will last for a while. They are not water proof but that isn’t an issue as I’d rather have breathable shoes that keep my feet cool.Totally recommend.

This is my first pair of Salomons, but they came highly recommended so when it was time for new trail-running shoes there wasn’t much debate in my head. That being said, I got very concerned when I came across dozens of not hundreds of one-stat reviews from people who obviously got counterfeit products. I was worried that I would Also get a counterfeit product. I watched several videos about how to differentiate the reals from the phonies so when the shoes came today I was relieved to see that these are most certainly genuine. I have taken them on a run and they fit and feel great. The tread is one of my favorite aspects of the shoe and I am surprised more trail shoes are not the same. For this spring weather the shoe was a great balance of waterproof, breathable and insulating. I have narrow feet, so as others have mentioned, people with not narrow feet may feel squished. Over all very impressed.

Pros- Use for mud runs and they give a quality grip- Solid quality overall as wellCons- The lace tightening mechanism is easy to use but if you're in the middle of a 10 mile mud run they can be gunked up with mud and debris, making them near impossible to slide for tightening/loosing.- As most reviews say, they run a bit tight and if you're in the mud for long runs you need a bit more space. I thought this was a fluke so I bought a size 12 and normally wear 12. While I have no issues completing a run in these, my toes do take a beating due to the pressure of the shoe once you get wet and your feet swell. I'm not sure how much bigger a 13 would be for me (could be too sloppy),but a 12.5 would be perfect I'd assume.Note - I also see several roofers using these shoes for shingling... they claim they're the cat's arse for their daily job duties. Just in case you need some roofing shoes... :)

They are good...but the Speedcross 3's had better grip despite the slightly smaller lugs.I raced Snowdon with these in September and, whilst they were great for uphill, they're not so great on the way down. They didn't give me a huge amount of confidence coming down the mountain and they either slipped on wet surfaces or my feet gave way several times. Even on wet grass, I must have slipped 3 or 4 times which forced me to slow down and consider my placement a lot more that I'd have liked. They're not all bad though. I ran over 600km in these trainers and they held up really well. The soles are worn (as you'd expect) and I had to buy some orthotics to support my overpronation - the insole that comes with the trainer are really thin and the support just isn't there.Just something to think about.Anywho, whilst I probably won't buy this model again, they did me great for the year!
