This is my second pair of Alpines: I'm still training in a pair of first generations, which I love. The improvements in the second generation include: a snap at the top of the gaiter, so you can ventilate the shoe by leaving the zip down, but still have basic protection, and the gaiter isn't flapping. There's less 'waterproofing' on the foot of the gaiter, which means more breathability. The fabric is less 'Spandura' than breathable neoprene, and the entire interior is screaming red, along with a red pinstripe down the edge of the zipper. I love the fact that someone (Salomon) pushed back against the GoreTex juggernaut: my feet are always soaked within minutes of putting on a GT shoe,so these are exactly what I'm looking for. I would like to see a light color (light grey), since these are alpine shoe and thus the black means they're running hotter in the sun than necessary, but... they're better than anything else out there. Size-wise... the second gen feels a little bigger all around, but time will tell. It did take me several attempts to dial in size the first time, and I've ordered the same, so we'll see how they wear.

I have run, walked and climbed in these and am sad to say goodbye :0( But, I quickly got over the pain and bought a new pair! :0) I live and work in the Scottish Highlands as a Mountain Guide and have used these a lot for scrambling on the Cuillin Ridge, Skye. They offer superb protection, so comfortable, lightweight for long days and look great. I get a lot of complements about them. Its great having the comfort of a trail shoe wrapped up in the sturdiness of a boot, its the perfect cross-over footwear for my needs. My only 2 negatives are that they are not as waterproof as expected. I wear Goretex socks with them on bad/wet days and the other issues is the rubber compound on the sole has worm out quicker than expected.Having said that, if it was a harder rubber they probably wouldn't be as grippy on rock.Overall, a fantastic hybrid trail running boot that I would buy again and again. Well done Salomon.

I went on some mountain hikes and I cannot describe in words how amazing these shoes are. I went in ankle deep snow and my feet did not got cold. Is a note, my feet get cold fast. The sole of these shoes were also great due to the anti slip material. I would give it a 10 star if possible. I bought them to use in the summer and avoid the dirt and small stones getting into my shoes. In my recent trip to Romania in February I decided to use them on a light hike on a small mountain in Brasov. After that I used them for all my hikes. No mountain boot needed. As a note, I never write reviews, however, the greatness of these shoes highly deserves one. I gave them to my sister and now I need a new pair. She is big into all mountain sports and she was also amazed how nice they are. She also appreciates how light of a shoe it is.

First off these shoes one of the greatest shoes I've owned. Most of the reviews and youtube breakdowns I've seen have commented on how great this shoe is for trail runs in the snow. This shoe is not for that purpose, go get the snow spike before Salomon discontinues it *cough cough*. I cannot say enough good about this shoe. The first time I took it out was a 9 hour trek up and down scree, side hilling, through streams, snow, alders, blueberries etc. I didn't have to adjust the fit a single time. Subsequent trips have been just as great. If I had to only choose a one shoe quiver it would be between this and the SLAB Ultras. I did get a small hole in the top while in a particularly abrasive patch of large scree, lesser shoes would have buckled under such pressure.

An early review having now done one boggy 12k mountain run and another 26km snow mountain run in Wales. Comfort is great as usual if you are a Salomon user. Grip is good for the shoe type and on both runs so far my feet have been warm and almost dry which is unheard of in Welsh winter conditions. The top button is a good addition making the zip stay put. The sizing is as usual for me a half size bigger apart for my Ultra Pro’s which are true to size. I am a general size 9 and have these Alpine XA 2 in a 44. I would give a 5 star but will need time to confirm their durability due to the high cost

I run on the beach and mountain everyday with these shoes, they are awesome, nice grip on rocks, nice traction in sands, you will never get sands inside of these shoes this is magical ! I like the easy lace system with the inside clip and outside zipper, they are not waterproof but they don't absorb water easy. I walked more then 500 kilometers with these and they still look brand new, no problem with them so far. I got these as a product replacement from the Salomon 2 years warranty, I don't regret my choice. Will buy again the next generation of ALPINE S/LAB

Phenomenal shoe. I live in Crested Butte, CO (Think cold and snowy) and these don't just keep my feet dry, they also keep them warm. No longer do i have to worry about wearing thick or warm socks, I can rock super thin socks and yesterday on a 15 degree day, my feet were toasty. Ignore the one rogue review! They dont have spikes, so on true ice, you will still slip a tiny bit but they grip wonderfully in deep snow or even just a dusting of snow. So pumped that I found a worthy winter shoe that isn't a big ole boot.

I have been searching for an approach shoe that I can actually run in & do easy climbing, this is it! They are comfortable, the rubber is good, they climb up peaks well & run well. The gator is great for keeping unwanted rocks & sand out of your shoes and it actually breathes well. I have stepped in water a few times now and was surprised how dry my foot stayed. Overall, they are a great shoe that is well constructed & worth the money!

Went camping with the boys and the shoe held up great. Feels like it gives you the protection of a boot with the comfort and weight of a sneaker (though it probably isn't as durable as a boot). Quite water resistant as well - wore it in pouring rain while walking in long grass and my feet were bone dry. I found that the shoe runs true to size. Pricy shoe but the functionality is great and it looks awesome as well (with long pants).

This shoe is the perfect combination of a running shoe and an approach shoe. It is really comfortable to run in but secure and confidence inspiring when the terrain gets more technical. The gaitor is nice and keeps the debris out, good to have clean feet at the end of the day. Good call not using a wpb membrane as the shoes stay much cooler and breathes better. These shoes are simply awesome. Good job s/lab!

I bought these a year ago and wear them all the time and at work, they would still look brand new if I cleaned them up. These are some of the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn and I'm comparing that to some of the most advanced cushioning technologies on sneakers. During the summer they don't get hot and during the winter my feet have never gotten cold. 10/10 would recommend. Definitely worth the price!

I call them my 3in1 ones, wear them for running and hiking when it's really snowing, rainy, or cold. My feet are warm and dry even when running thru puddles and significant slush. Swapped out the insole for my inserts, no issues, comfortable, and so far holding up great. Would love it if these came multiple versions - a plain black, and then a more colorful/reflective option.

So I just got these and the fit was prefect ( have a wider forefoot ) Superlight. I got these to use in the Alps. I was so excited to get these I went on a trail run just to get the feel of these. For s stiffer boot these handle pretty well. The weight is crazy light.

1.7.2019

These boot/shoes are not as hot as previous snowcross versions. The upper breathes very well but keeps moisture out. Good traction and a wide toe box. I don't think I realized until I purchased these how much my feet were cramped inside my old snowcross shoes.

Great traction, warm and overall phenomenal runner. I’d recommend for mid foot and heel striker, looking to take your runner on trail, fall, winter and spring. A must have for someone looking for added protection, good cushion and solid stability
