This is a huge improvement from the poncho-style raincoat we were using. I like that this covers our dog's chest, which normally gets soaked while walking in the rain when she wears a raincoat that only covers her back. The large size is a good fit on our 55 lb lab-beagle mix (girth 32", length 24", neck 22"). I was debating medium versus large size based on the company's website sizing chart (visit their site...there's a much more comprehensive sizing guide that lists all three measurements). The large size I purchased covers the first couple inches of her tail, but I prefer the extra coverage instead of wet hindquarters. The neck opening is just right. Girth is absolutely the key measurement here, and the large size fits well. The straps are adjusted exactly halfway for a snug but not tight fit (you get about 4-5" of strap to play with on each side). The buckle is inside a pocket so it doesn't rub. I really like that the buckle is attached to a piece of elastic so there's some give when the dog sits and her chest expands. The fabric is durable and repels water well, but I hit it with some silicone spray just because I could. The collar folds down if you need a little less coverage, but we'll probably keep it up. There's no hood by design...those things never work anyway. There are no straps in the back for the hind legs to hold the rear down, but the fabric is heavy enough that it takes a strong wind to flap it up. This works in our favor given that our dog is between sizes...we decided to get this instead of this company's other model with fuller coverage since the hind-leg straps on that model would probably have made the fit awkward.

I read the amazon reviews in shopping for raincoats for my 2 dogs - coats that would actually WORK and not fall off! Our GSD and our shep/husky/beagle mix have Ruffwear front ring harnesses, so I knew that brand was solid. Expensive, but SO WORTH the money. The quality and design of their products is one of the best. I was concerned about sizing. Our GSD female is 80lbs and 32 inches long from neck to start of tail. Can never find anything long enough for her since her girth is only 31 inches. We got the XL raincoat for her, which does not match up with her girth. BUT, because there is a flap that covers her chest (great!) and the buckles (also great, no velcro!) adjust, the XL has worked great for her!!!It covers her all the way to her tail base! It’s slightly big in her neck, but because of the chest flap and buckles, the whole raincoat stays in place. Awesome! We went with a M for our 55lb husky shep beagle mix - fits perfectly. Sized it to her girth, and it’s a perfect fit. No hoods, but I truly believe neither of them would like the hoods. They don’t like to walk in the rain so we don’t use them for that - but when they go potty on rainy days, these coats really cut down on the drying time and the wet dog smell when they come back in from doing their business. Greta got red, it’s a pretty bright red, and Tammie got the bright pink. Super cute coats too! Stylish and great fit and very functional. I won’t have to buy new coats for years so totally worth the expense. Hope this helps!

Sooo.... I adopted a dachshund mix a few months ago and have started to realize how stubborn she can be in the rain. My dog, Kayla, loves her long walks. What she doesn’t like is getting her top half wet. I originally went to the local pet stores here and tried different jackets. They were either to short for her long body, had a hood attached, or just didn’t fit right. (She is stubborn and picky) I started looking into ruffwear and was a little skeptical about their sizing chart. I would not consider my dog as XS. After a few emails with Ruffwear, asking about sizing and such I decided to order this rain jacket. Kayla loves it. It fits her perfectly both length wise and width, and it doesn’t bother her at all. I also bought the fleece that can be worn underneath and it still fits her perfectly, it isn’t tight and can be adjusted easily. Best of all she will actually walk in the rain!!! (Her chest still gets wet but that’s because she so low to the ground) if you're considering this jacket and not sure of what size to get you can definitely use what ruffwear recommends sizing wise ... it is pretty accurate, or you can just email them directly. They are super friendly and will also give you suggestions on what type of gear to get based on what you want to do.

I have a 1.5 year old Lab and bought this jacket for him. Ruffwear products are somewhat expensive here in Europe but unfortunately there aren't that many options for quality dog products that can stand all weather conditions. Having checked all the local stores and brands for a rain jacket, and only seen crappy and cheaply made in China products, I decided to order this rain jacket through Amazon. This is surely a high quality and very well made jacket. It's well designed, it fits nicely on my dog and it sits tight in his body, not moving around while he's running. It still allows for full body motion, my Lab doesn't seem to care if he's wearing the jacket or not. This jacket provides great coverage to my Lab,he is in between sizes so I followed Ruffwear advice and chosen the larger one. Also, my Lab looks great while wearing it. I ended up buying a Ruffwear leash/collar in grey to match his winter outfit, also very pleased with that purchase.I'm very happy with this product. It's on the expensive side of products but still very worth it, specially considering there aren't many other high quality options out there.

I have a big dog who lives indoors full time so we walk rain or shine. This jacket keeps the rain off of about 85% of my dog which keeps things reasonable on rainy days. My dog's chest girth was 30 and I ordered large, which was for 32-36. I went up one size because he was 9 months old at the time and I thought he would grow into a larger size. He is a German Shepherd mix weighting 70 pounds. The large is definitely too big on him, I think medium would be perfect right now. Hopefully it will work out to be right but if he doesn't grow I will repurchase the same jacket in a medium. It is a nice jacket and a good value for the money I think. The sides are adjustable for a good fit (if you have the right size!).The neck does not open so you have to put their head through. This is a lightweight water resistant nylon-like material which does take on water and it remains a little damp between outings until the weather clears up (we go out 4-5 times daily for bathroom breaks). It keeps the rain off the dog's back though.

This seems to be the same type of material that my own waterproof jacket is made of, probably explains the price. We went out in quite a downpour a few weeks ago and he came back as dry as me, which was brilliant.I bought a medium (which was a size up) as our Working Cocker (not sure he knows he's a working one!) has quite a long, lean body and I wanted him to be covered. He's not that keen on putting it on as he has to put his head through the hole (much easier when there is two of you) but once on and the straps are adjusted he's absolutely fine and doesn't seem to notice it. It must be quite comfortable as he's even been known to go to sleep in it.The purple colour isn't as vibrant as the colour shown, more is the pity. The reflective trim is helpful and I particularly like the fact the collar goes up a long way.

I've been looking for a year for a good raincoat for my dog that is just the rain shell, breathable, and NOT fleece lined since he is a fuzzy guy and doesn't need extra insulation. I finally bit the bullet and checked my favorite brand (Ruffwear) to see if they have it. Unfortunately this year's colors aren't what I was looking for - I prefer red or construction orange to make sure he is visible in the woods on hikes and on the streets when walking in the rain so I paid more than this season's listprice to get the Red Currant color which I love. My dog is a lean mini-aussie weighing slightly less than 30 pounds. We bought the small and it goes about an inch or two beyond his back and I cinched up the belly flap to the edge.I'd probably recommend sizing down to XS for similar sized dogs.

Excellent rain jacket, light enough to wear in warm climates. Easy on, easy off and stays in place nicely, with no need for elastic bands in the hind leg area. The small size was a good fit for my 30 lb. mixed breed dog, and would also work perfectly for a regular-sized Dachshund. One missing feature is an opening on the back to allow hookup to a harness, but this is something that can be easily added on by someone handy with a needle and thread.UPDATE: after three months of regular use, I can attest to the excellence of this rain jacket. I also own two rain jackets by Hurtta, which are nice enough, but this Ruffwear jacket has obviously had some serious product engineering put into it.It may be on the expensive side, but it's definitely worth the asking price.

It's the perfect rain jacket for the Pacific Northwest! The jacket mainly keeps the backside of my dog dry. It doesn't keep the stomach area as dry but it still saves me time from towel drying my dog after each walk. It's not too bulky or too warm for my dog and he seems very comfortable wearing it. Easy to get on and off and my dog didn't have any restrictions in movement. Cleaning the jacket is a breeze - I either wipe it off with a towel or throw it in the wash and hang it to dry. The L size works great with the length of my dog but he has a slimmer waist so it's great that the sides of the jacket can be adjusted to his size. I liked it so much,I ordered another one in a different color for my other dog.

I love this Ruffwear jacket because it is adjustable enough to fit my slim-waisted hound dog well--so often these jackets are styled with thicker-waisted breeds in mind and they droop well below my dog's stomach. The reason it didn't get 5 stars is because the neck is tighter than I'd like, and my dog can't wear his regular collar under the jacket. I also can't layer a fleece underneath it in the winter when it's cold (he has a single coat and needs the extra warmth in cold temps). His neck is pretty slim as well, so I'd be careful if you have a dog with a thick neck (think bulldog, etc.) Other than that, it's great--keeps the rain off and is light enough to wear in warmer temperatures.

The sizing guide was spot on for my dog. The medium coat fit my 35 lb Australian Labradoodle perfectly! I really liked that the buckles on the sides are covered in the rain coat so they don’t rub against her. This easily went on over her regular harness and we could still easily clip her leash on the front attachment to her harness. Hitting the rainy season in the Pacific Northwest now this has made a big difference as her core was usually the place that took the longest to dry if she got wet on walks. Her head and feet air dry pretty fast on their own so this makes a big difference. She got used to the coat pretty quickly and is good with using it now. I would highly recommend!

Ruffwear makes great products for dogs. Human quality materials for your best friend.I bought this as a replacement for my dog's original Ruffwear raincoat. Her original one had a removable hoodie, which I really like. The new coat does not have the hoodie. I'm guessing some people did not like it.The new coat repels water very very well. It has snap buckles, no Velcro.Reflective highlights along the trim/sides is very nice.Light attachment loop on the top for an LED light (sold separately)The only con is the neck hole, it's a little small but this does not pose an issue to placing the coat on. It only makes a snug fit around the front of the chest while being used.

My black lab mix has a challenging shape to fit. He’s long and has a large chest but smaller neck. I bought the large size coat and am happy with it. It’s adjustable straps offer more flexibility than other coats we tried. It is waterproof and the under belly strap helps keep him cleaner. It stays mostly in plave once we adjusted the straps. We use an easy walk harness so have to put that on first. We have another ruffwear visibility vest we’ve had since Miles was a young dog which still holds up, although it’s too short to cover him completely. I expect this coat to be as durable. And the bright green is highly visible at night—important for night time walks.

I have a medium sized, 40 pound pit mix. I got the small pink one and was very happy with the overall materials. Very easy to take on and off and sturdy. I imagine this will last a long time. However, I figured with her measurements being right in the middle of the small size it would be perfect but it was actually quite short on the tail end so she ends up getting her backside wet in the rain. I could size up but then it wouldn't have worked around her neck. The other reason I got this jacket was the under part protection. However, I noticed it fits loosely allowing dirt and muck into that area- getting her filthy anyway. Not the biggest issue.

It looks good for my Shepherd and my Shepherd Mix - not all foo foo like other rain jackets I have seen. It keeps the rain off their back and helps with the amount of toweling off I have to do when we get back from our walk.I think it is a bit pricey altho it is pretty well made, I like how the buckles are under the side flaps. I did have to pin the chest piece to make it 'shorter' for my dogs as it kept sliding back and getting tight across the chest and front legs, I am trying to accommodate 2 dogs with the same jacket, I possibly could have used a smaller size for the one dog, but the pinning works and I can use 1 jacket for both dogs.
