Our dog is at the top end of this weight class (25 kg) and so the kibble is a good size for him, though kibble for larger dogs does force him to slow down when eating his food as he tends to wolf it down as labradors are known to do. When it was delivered to the door, the Amazon delivery man discovered that he was my dog's best friend as he wagged his tail like mad while eagerly sniffing at the package. The delivery man obligingly gave his ears a good rub and let the dog lick his hands, so now they're fast friends, though the dog is often disappointed when he finds that non dog food items are arriving. Still, the dog was excited about the delivery and once the other food had been eaten,I duly opened another bag of food. That one was a salmon one and he at first wasn't that enthused so I opened this one and mixed the two together as the food he'd just finished was chicken. he happily took to it and gradually got more salmon in the mix so that the next bag after this, he was fine eating just the salmon (and that is a 14 kg bag, so I am happy about that). I mention this because this is a premium food with the price to match, and the larger bags work out cheaper. If your dog doesn't take to the change in flavour or you are changing the type of food completely, having a smaller sized bag to mix in so you can gradually introduce the new food is a convenience, as is trying a small bag to try first to see if your dog will even eat it. Ours eats this fine, and he has had no issues with digestion. Unexpectedly, he eats eagerly when hungry, but if he isn't, he doesn't go for food of any kind, this included. Most un-Lab like behaviour, but as it helps keep him at his ideal weight I'm not going to complain. His black coat is coal dark with a deep lustre to it, enough so that everyone from passerbys, the vet, the kennel owner, his groomer etc have all commented on it and asked what we've been feeding him. "A mix of Pro Plan and Beta dog food we've been given to try" I've duly told them and they've all been impressed. He's healthy, his joints are supported, his teeth are strong and white, he's been free of "doggy breath", his eyes are bright, and he's full of age appropriate energy, so I'm satisfied that this is a good food as it ticks all the boxes performance wise and according to the dog, also taste wise.

Purina PRO PLAN Medium Adult Dog OptiHealth Chicken Dry Dog FoodAnother new Dog Food from the tried and trusted Purina brand. (Hmmmm – dogs seems to be getting more choices than their owners!! Lol)• As you would expect from Purina, this food is well packaged. It is an easy-tear, easy open, strong plastic bag, which provides a good size opening for pouring out the contents. There is a well placed handle at the opposite side of the bag for ease of lifting/manoeuvring. No need to decant the food after opening the bag as there is a press-seal closure to keep the food fresh.• The triangular size kibble is suitable for medium – medium + sized dogs. There is no strong smell on opening the bag,and no smell or residue left on your hands if you are putting the kibble into an activity toy for your doggy friend.• The shelf life on my bag was nice and long – November 2016.• There is a Daily Feeding Guide printed on the packaging and I found this to be particularly helpful. Unlike most dog foods that provide a feeding guide, which is usually based on the weight of your dog, this feeding guide gives advice not only in relation to weight but also to the activity levels of your dog. I think this is such a good idea and hope that other Pet Food Manufacturers follow this lead.• This OptiHealth Chicken flavour food is high in protein at 25% and has a 15% fat content so be careful if your dog has any pancreatic problems or suffers from colitis. I would also say to be a bit careful in feeding to an older dog, however your best place for advice is your Veterinary Surgeon who knows what is best for your dog and it's state of digestive health.• This kibble has a reasonably hard crunch to it.Both my dogs loved it and there were no digestive problems caused by it. However please remember that when changing over your dog's food, you need to do it gradually by slowing introducing the new food into the old and then gradually up the quantity of the new food and thus reducing the quantity of the old food.As an owner I think this is a great new dog food and "Amber" and "Maisy" think it is too. However it is VERY expensive and that is why I have deducted 1 star.

The dog, an older bull terrier, enjoyed this new food from Purina (though I did mix in some tinned food to make the food more moist). However, I couldn't work out from the packaging what makes this food specially designed for medium-sized dogs but not appropriate for small or large dogs (I suppose the kibbles would be a bit large for a small dog to eat comfortably). This complete dry pet food is part of the new Opti-nutrition range from Purina designed to meet the specific needs of different sizes, ages and conditions of dogs by the inclusion of targeted combinations of nutrients given names such as OptiAge, OptiDigest and OptiDerma. They're a convenient way of giving your dog all the nutrients it needs for a heathy balanced diet (and also dry foods mean drier stools that are easier to pick up in a doggy waste bag!). It can be hard to know whether the claims made for various dog foods are valid or not without being a doggy nutritionist, but there are some clues to go on, and of course the starting point has to be whether your dog(s) will eat the food or not!Purina is a premium brand that comes at a premium price. Meat content is a combination of dehydrated poultry protein (the main ingredient) and chicken pieces (14%), giving a total protein content of 25%, fat 15% (which might be a problem for older or less active dogs). The feeding guide based not just on weight but also activity level is helpful (the dog has become less active as he's become older). The packaging is great with the re-sealable top. There's a good-sized opening to the bag and a grab handle. The price is about average for a big brand of this quality, maybe slightly on the expensive side. The food is better value when bought on subscription. One thing to remember when introducing any new food to a dog's diet is to always do so gradually, mixing it in with the existing usual food in gradually increasing proportions over the course of a week or two. That helps to avoid problems like the dog wolfing down them vomiting up the new food, or getting the runs. The dog was initially affected by both when switched to this food abruptly.

Our golden retriever is right at the top of the weight scale for this food, so the kibble pieces were quite small for her. As such, I am not completely convinced that the dental benefit claims for this food would be as relevant for her. This is because the dental benefits are usually due to the shape of the food against the teeth. With her mouth being fairly big, she might be better off with a 'large dog' version of this food, in order to get the maximum benefits to her oral health. If your dog is a medium size dog, rather than somewhere between the two, you may well find that this food helps to keep the plaque and tarter from building up around your dog's teeth. That aside, our dog still greatly enjoyed trying this new food. She literally wolfed it down in one go, whereas she often leaves food in her dish and snacks on it gradually throughout the day.Ingredients wise, it seems to have really standard constituent parts - of note the list seems very similar throughout the whole range. As such, be careful if your dog is sensitive to any of the ingredients, such as wheat or soya. There doesn't appear to be any spectacularly new and interesting things added, that would encourage your adult dog to start performing tricks. Bearing in mind, however, that my dog really enjoyed eating it, I would still recommend this dog food. There are other brands I prefer to buy, but I would not be averse to getting this for my lovely dog again, because her happiness is what matters to me at this stage of her life. The bag is resealable, which is very useful for keeping it fresh, and for keeping the smells locked away. This is handy for discouraging your dog from sniffing around, and trying to help themselves to any extras too!

The first thing that occurred to me was that this is a very well packaged product. The food arrives shrink-wrapped is easy to move – handy for when my dog goes to stay with someone for a few days. Furthermore, there is an obvious tear strip to open it and a re-sealable top, which I think is important to keep it fresh; whilst it’s only a small bag of food, I introduce any changes gradually so I’ll take a few weeks to use it.The triangular biscuits were perfectly suitable for my medium-sized (19kg) Springer-Collie. The feeding guide written on the pack is comprehensive and I fed my dog according to that (some days he is much more activity than others). It has a nice crunch to it - much like most kibble - which I’m told (on the package)helps to keep their teeth clean. The package states a range of health benefits, including help with nutrient absorption and joint movement.I like that it doesn’t seem to smell as strong as some other foods. I don’t think this affects the taste as my dog likes it. Again this is good for when my dog is looked after by someone else, as some other foods can be quite strong-smelling.This is a high quality dog food. It is expensive compared to other brands, but it is marketed very well. Only time (and many more bags of food) would tell if it really does improve the quality of life of my dog. I don’t think there is one single thing which sets it apart from other available brands, therefore I’ve awarded this 4 stars. I would buy it in the future.

The Purina PRO PLAN Dog Medium Adult with OptiHealth Rich in Chicken Dry Food - comes in a large 3KG bag. Here's what I thought:^^ First and foremost, my dogs loved it! Can't argue with that.^^ OptiHEALTH is designed for optimum long term health for a wide range of tastes and sizes. This one is for adults of medium size with chicken.^^ 3 KG is a decent quantity, especially when my pets really look like they are enjoying their food. However, it is expensive for what it is and I do not ever give my dogs just a dry food diet so this does last me a lot longer. You see I like to vary my dogs diet supplying kibble like this as a mixer with fresh food (home cooked and specially prepared)and some cans of wet meat, too. I think that is why they are so fit and healthy - variation!^^ Developed by Purina vets and nutritionists, so a trusted brand I have heard of.^^ Supposed to keep my dogs' at optimum health, with total so if anything does this I am happy to help them by providing the tools for the trade.Overall:I am happy to provide this to my dogs knowing that the brand is a trusted and reliable company and of course, it's a bonus when my dogs love it, since it is then money not wasted but indeed well spent. Don't forget, I do not give my dogs just this dry food diet and insist on a balanced and varied selection for my pampered (but well looked after) pooches.

Its always hard to review a dog food brand, the first test you always have to do is to feed it to the dog and see if they eat it, well as soon as the bag was brought home the dog was sniffing it which is something that it doesn't normally do when dried food is brought home. The dog ate all the bowl in its normal express time so this is good. The mix are a good size for a medium size dog i have had the small size bag and the chunks in the medium size are bigger so it means most dogs have to chew... except for my staffy who just munched it as quick as anything else it eats... which is pretty much anything. The packaging is also very clever, there is a perforated corner to the back which come off easy and there is a seal under that like you would get on a sandwich bag which means that the mix can keep fresh which is important. The only minor point is i know that there are dried food my dog would be just as happy with which are not quite as expensive and comes with almost the same nutrition. If you can afford this then i would recommend you buy it as my dog loves it.. even the terrier who should be on the small stuff eats this (the staffy also eats the small stuff)

Purina Pro Plan is a premium priced dog kibble, although the ingredients don't quite match those of other brand premium line dog foods, being rather high in wheat, which is a known allergen for many dogs. The kibble is a decent size and shape for medium sized breeds (Spaniels, Beagles, Patterdales). Our two dogs, (Springers, f.9 and m. 2) did really enjoy it, though they are not the most discerning consumers. They ate every bit that was in their bowl and looked for more. The kibble is a good size and shape to be used as dog treats; most dogs will of course take anything that is hand-fed, other than something containing a tablet. The food is very practically packaged with a tear off corner and is re-sealable for freshness. There is very little aroma compared with some foods, although the dogs were able to detect something through a sealed packet.A nice change for our two although we won't be making the switch to this brand permanently as the price per kilo isn't reflected in the quality of the ingredients.

This 3kg bag of dry dog food is, like the other Purina products I have received, well packaged. You can open the bag and re-seal it, which helps keep it fresh and stop it smelling – although this certainly does not have the strong smell of other dog foods.Ideal for medium dogs, this contains the following ingredients: Dehydrated poultry protein, Wheat, Maize, Chicken (14%), Animal fat, Dried beet pulp, Soya meal, Maize grits, Rice (4%), Digest, Gluten, Minerals, Fish oil and has full instructions on how to introduce the new food to your pet. So far, I have seen no bad reactions to this brand, but obviously all animals are different and so you obviously want to introduce this gradually. This helps care for your dogs joints and teeth, along with tasting yummy – as evidenced by the way it is eaten so quickly! Overall, I think this is a good brand and wish other such bags of food were also packaged as well, which really makes a difference when you are storing them.

As with the other kibble foods my dogs have sampled in the Purina PRO PLAN range, their bowls are emptied with vigour and they show are no signs of stomach upset and continue to produce their regular well formed stools. But as with the other foods we've used in his range it is difficult to assess how well the claims made on the packet regarding the longer term benefits are achieved. The only judgement I can make is to compare the ingredients and nutritional values listed with other similar kibbles. In the respect this Purina for Medium adults is about on a par with other well known brands who sell in this mid to high..ish price range, and make similar claims. The Purina comes in at a price point that is a bit more expensive than many but if your dog particularly prefers the taste, or you like the resealable bag, itmay be a price worth paying. If it was 20% cheaper then I would probably give it 5 stars. However.....

A great, consistently sound, quality dry dog food from the trustworthy brand of Purina. My brothers Malamute Huskies remained underweight/too slim despite feeding them high amount of quality food (Royal Canin, Arion, Hills, James Welbeloved etc). After the switch to Purina Pro Plan they steadily put on several kg's, the conditions of their coats have improved to a healthy, glossy and strong, plus they really enjoy the food! In addition, and quite interestingly, they have gone from eating around 600g of the other brands to around only 460g of Pro Plan (and still maintaining a healthy weight without over feeding). The other dogs throughout our close and extended family (ranging from Labradors and Springers to a collie and a tiny Dachshund)also been in flourishing and in tip-top condition on this food. Highly recommended, and although not relevant here, even my 3 former cats thrived on Pro-Plan.

Our dog has just entered her first year of adulthood so we switched from the puppy food to this, the biscuits are bigger and despite being the same chicken flavour they do smell slightly different. She likes them though and the 14kg bag should last many months. It is a complete meal so you don't need to add anything else to the food although every so often we mix a little bit of canned tuna or chopped up egg in with the biscuits to keep things interesting for her. The puppy food was recommended by the breeder so we stuck with the brand as our dog entered adulthood and neither us or the dog have any complaints. The only reason for knocking a star off is the price but then again i suppose you get what you pay for and dog food is no different! Not been able to find this stuff any cheaper from anywhere else. It came within a few days and was well packaged. RECOMMENDED!!

My Chocolate Lab loves this. The kibble is a good size, not to small and does not contain any added colours. I like to add water to the kibble to make a gravy to help with her degestion. The instructions for feed are clearly described. I like that it gives you not only the amount to feed, but also information about how much activity your dog has and to change the amount of food required. The food is specially formulated to fulfil your dogs need, it is designed to help with healthy teeth, joints and keeps your dogs coat looking great. Many people have different opinions about dog food, from raw meat diet, dry food, wet or a combination. You also have to take into consideration cost.Purina Pro Plan is £15 for 3kg and I can not fault the quality of the food but for me is rather expensive.

I've tried several variants of the Purina PRO PLAN food on a few dogs now, and was interested in the differences between them. Mostly as far as appearance goes it seems to be down to kibble size, and the Salmon variety definitely smells fishy, though not unpleasant. All have been palatable to all the dogs, although they obviously can't read so dont know if theyre getting the "right" one. I've been feeding one or other of these for a few weeks now, and I have to say I have noticed that Little Dog's coat is shinier and silkier. He's also put on a bit of weight which is a good thing as he was skinny. It's not cheap food but for peace of mind about feeding a quality food I think it's worth it.
