I'm a 23 year-old female and I absolutely love this game. I've had it for about a month and I've played it almost every day. There are several game modes -Garden Ops - A single-player game in which you are one of the plants, and attempt to fight off the zombie horde while trying to defend your "garden" (base), also using potted plants who are essentially weaker, static allies with various skills who will also attack the zombies. This mode can also be played as a multiplayer over Xbox Live Gold with randomly-selected players, or as a Split Screen mode, giving 3 different experiences. Then there are the Multiplayer levels. My favourite is the Gardens & Graveyards mode. You either play one of the aforementioned plants or as the zombies. If you're the plants then your job is to defend the garden using potted plants and your teammates while the zombies try to "claim" your garden by having more of them stood at the base than plants. The zombies win if they attack all the bases, and can "raise" extra, weaker zombies to help. At the end of each map is a special, unique objective. It's a little like "Rush" in Battlefield. If the zombies win then the plants fall back to another base and the map expands, maybe 5 bases altogether. Another is in which both sides compete equally to have control of a bomb in the shape of a gnome, and have to place it in one of the other teams 3 bases - if all 3 bases explode then the other team wins. The gameplay and replay value are further enhanced by the sticker system. In each game you earn coins, on average is about 10,000 coins per completed game. These can be spent on consumables such as the potted plants to use as support for the playable characters if you're playing as a plant, and extra zombies you can "raise" as a zombie main character. You can also purchase additional upgrades for the plants and zombies, and things like hats, glasses, beards, tattoos to customize your plants and zombies. However, you can't just pick which ones you want! You purchase packets of "stickers" and can't know what's inside them until you purchase. Rarer character customizations and upgrades are of course less likely to appear. Two negatives which resulted in only 4 stars.- The microphone doesn't work. In one month's play I have only been able to both hear and speak to other players on maybe 5 or 6 occasions. Most of the time they can't hear me or I can't hear them, I can't tell. Never played with people I'm friends with on Xbox so I'm sure that speaking to members of a party over Xbox, rather than EA's servers on this game, would work better. EA have acknowledged this as their problem.- The first time I installed it I played the tutorial mini-game as it downloaded and the game wouldn't work. I had to delete and then re-install which overall took 4 hours. Google says it's a common problem so don't launch the game at all until its 100% downloaded!

I read some of the negative reviews and found them to be completely ludicrous as they did not state legitimate criticism, therefore I have decided to write my own review to give potential buyers the information they need when considering a buy.Plants vs Zombies GW is a third person, online-only shooter based on the Plants vs Zombies universe. It features many of the plants and zombies found in the tower defense games and has the same aesthetic and sense of humor. There are three main gameplay modes: team vanquish which is much like team deathmatch from other games, gardens and graveyards which is where one team defends an objective and one attacks said objective, and garden ops which is a co-operative game mode where you defend a garden against waves of computer controlled zombies. While the game is family friendly and would be suitable for younger players, it is surprisingly deep. It is still however a casual shooter and does not have the barrier of entry that Call of Duty or Battlefield does. The levels are quite open and cheesy tactics like camping and other frustrating things are luckily absent for the most part. There is a simplified progression system where you level up and improve your different characters on both the plants and zombie sides. You can unlock customization and consumable items with in-game currency which you cannot buy with real money but only with points you earn from playing the game. The customization options are extensive and would be enjoyable for younger players to collect and is one of the major reason to play the game as there is a constant sense of collection and you always want another silly hat for your soldier zombie. YOU NEED XBOX LIVE GOLD MEMBERSHIP TO PLAY IT! There is no single-player offline mode. And that brings me to the weak point of the game and that is that it is a bit weak on content. Hopefully there is DLC on the way because with out more content I don't know how much longer I will be playing it. However I am an avid gamer with the attention span of a gold fish and I think that for many and especially for the demographic which this game targets, it will be sufficient. I am not a huge fan of EA and while this is obviously a cash-in on the PvZ brand, it is none the less good clean fun and I would recommend it for anyone looking for a breather of somber, drab military shooters and for parents who would like to play with their kids as this has split screen. There are no subliminal messages as one reviewer states. He is obviously deluded. That goes without saying. I have rated this 5 stars but in reality I would give it a four. I just wanted to counter act the silly negative reviews from the deluded, the un-informed and from the sony fanboy. I hope this helps.

I bought Garden Warfare for the Xbox 360 when it first released for the last gen machine and promptly traded after 72 hours as the EA servers were so disgracefully poor that you couldn't complete a single game without being kicked off with a server-error message. Think Battlefield4 in the first 6 months of release and you have the picture, yet another EA catastrophe. That was such a shame as the game itself, when it worked, appeared to be a magical escape from the standard shooter offerings on offer across the Xbox360's library. After upgrading to a PS4 I was interested to see that Garden Warfare had been released for the new gen machine. I eventually decided to buy it in September 2014.I suppose I was driven by the hope of a fresh fun shooter and that narrowly outweighed the fear that I'd be throwing more of my cash into the pockets of EA employees.I picked up a copy of the game and tentatively loaded into my machine. Loading, Loading, Loading - zip….straight in to a reliable server connection and the first multiplayer game began in seconds. No hassle, no jitters, just what I expect a developer to deliver first time around. Since then I have played countless rounds of Garden Warfare mayhem without fuss and am loving every second of its manic crazy take on the FPS genre. This is as refreshing as it gets. The graphics are superbly drawn in a colourful cartoon palate but hard-nut FPS fans need not be put off by the game's fluffy exterior shell as you need to employ all of the same strategies as you do in games such as Battlefield or COD etc if you want to survive more than a couple of minutes at a time. It's just that Garden Warfare pulls it all off with a brilliant sense of fun and adventure. Levelling up, customising your characters and shooting your opponents has never been so much fun. Think of it as paint-balling with your mates rather than killing your enemies and you're almost there. The maps are really well thought out and are drawn brilliantly, and I really hope more new maps will be made available via DLC to keep things fresh well into the future.Just as in Battlefield 4, now that this game works, it's brilliant and it's just a pity that EA insists on putting its customers through hell before they can enjoy it's titles. But now that it is fixed I would recommend grabbing a copy of Garden Warfare soon. Just be aware that this game is multiplayer only and you need a PS4 account to play.

I'm amazed at how much fun this games is. Plants Vs Zombies is a co-op based, 3rd person (over the shoulder perspective) shooter. Graphics look really good especially when you realise it was originally designed for the iPhone. The levels themselves are massive so the content on offer is awesome, added to that the fun customization you can do to the characters and you'll be laughing yourself silly. So guess what if you didn't already know, you can play as either plants or Zombies in this with each type having 4 characters. Each character has special abilities that you can unlock along the way. The chilli bean bomb is epic fun to use as are many of the weapons on offer and each looks cool when you use it.The Dig ability is my personal favourite meaning you can go underground for a short while and pop up right behind the enemy. There are a few different modes in this game including "garden ops" which is where you have to survive the endless waves of zombies, tip. keep an eye out for the potted plants! There are a few multi-player modes too including a team death-match mode called "team vanquish", "gardens and graveyards" is my favourite mode and the best way to describe it would be like domination or capture the flag only you're job is to capture gardens. There are also classic modes of the same game types and the only difference is you don't have an special abilities.Pros: Insane fun * graphics suit this game well * game-play is smooth * lots of content * Sticker packs * Surprisingly it's very tactical * People of all ages will love this * playing with friends is a barrel of laughs * Boss mode (you basically play as god and can see the whole map from above and drop health..etc) * brings out the child in me while playing (Smiley face) * No micro transactionsCons: no map while playing so you can get lost but also you have no idea as to where your friends are * No Melee * You can't crouch behind a wall (although you can built one tall enough)Verdict: This is a game for everyone regardless of age or gender. It's massive fun and even someone like me that usually goes for mainstream shooters has become addicted.EPIC FUN & RECOMMENDED!

This is a hugely entertaining game that both us adults and our kids love playing. It's a fast paced shooter but without realistic violence or gore - a nice find amongst so many games on the xbox that I'm dubious about the kids playing because of the violent aspects. In order to play this game you have to have a Live Gold membership and you also have to sign up to EA, (which I was a bit sceptical about). There are a number of modes of play: you can play as part of an on-line multi-player team on either the plants or zombies side; you can play split-screen with a friend as plants defending your garden against never-ending waves of zombies or you can play on your own in garden ops...again as a plant trying to defend your garden. All modes are a lot of fun, but we are all sadly beginning to find the split screen and garden ops a little repetitive after a few weeks of playing. Now, to the only major downside of this game for me...and that is the fact that you can't have 2 players on the same xbox playing on-line in a multi-player battle. We're sadly not minted enough to have an xbox one for each kid so, when they want to play in the multi-player battles, (which they usually prefer now over split screen), they have to take it turn about. It would be so great if both of them could participate in an on-line multi-player battle at the same time with a split screen. Perhaps this will be added in the future. Here's hoping... :)An aspect of the game that our boys particularly like is the customisation and the fact that you can "buy" lots of extra characters to play with. You get these items and characters through sticker packs which you purchase with zombie coins - earned whilst playing the game. This is a fun little extra and gives lots of amusement. It's really nice that this game doesn't seem to be constantly encouraging you to use really money to buy extras which I'm finding a little wearing on many of the xbox one games.Overall, a really great purchase. Lots of good, relatively clean and harmless fun and a game that should stay a firm favourite - especially if EA release more maps periodically. Highly recommended.

First of all let me say that all the one star reviews of this game are because people have bought it not realising its an ONLINE game only. For any people worried their little darlings playing strangers online there are parental controls you can set and unless you are wired to a microphone you CAN NOT talk to people. On a side note its normally the younger players who swear more than the adults. Irony eh !Now to the game, its nothing like the arcade game where you stop waves of zombies from reaching your house. This is a light hearted call of duty/battlefield based game without the violence, despite being a shooter. There are 4 "class`es" of plants and 4 of zombies with variants of each one tounlock.Initially you can play the "welcome mat" to get used to the game and earn points to level up your character and buy card packs. The welcome mat game only uses one of the four game maps.Next up is vanquish mode where teams of up to 12 battle it out to be the first team to achieve 50 kills, roughly 10 minutes per game.Next mode is gardens and graveyards in which one team attempts to take over or defend six bases, this game takes about 20 minutes to play.A downloadable content pack is now available as well containing 1 more map and a new game mode called Gnome bomb. This pack is free. All the maps are not too large and contain multiple routes, each character in the game has three special weapons as well as the default one, these include mines, proximity bombs, flying drones etc.Very varied and too many to mention. The maps are very brightly coloured in a cartoon style and everything runs smoothly,Slight juddering when you get killed but nothing to spoil the game. The card packs you buy with the points you earn are randomly selected and include loads of things to customise your character and character parts, much like a jigsaw to earn new characters.Points are easy to earn but there is loads of stuff to collect. All in all this game is great fun and is ideal for kids or adults, please ignore the one star reviews from people too stupid to read the box where it says online only.Highly recommended.

Played this game 5 hours straight yesterday because its so much fun, if like me your not great at multiplayer games then don't be too alarmed as I found the games to be more fun than over competitive and I never got more deaths than kills in most matches. There are 2 game types , garden ops and multiplayer ( there is NO singleplayer so you must have xbox live !!). The garden ops is a co-op based play style where you team up with 3 others and you have to defend your garden against crazy zombies and at randon you have to take down big bosses in the middle of the challenge, team work is essential in this mode aswell as choosing the right characters as all the characters have different abilities, one person might be a sunflower that has the ability to heal others while another player is a pea shooter like an assault type character taking down all the zombies that are trying to destroy your garden. The other mode is 24 player multiplayer, there are 2 modes ( as far as I can tell as only played the game yesterday) and they are team vanquish and garden vs grave yards ( like conquest mode in battlefield) again its lots of fun. For us noobs there's a map that let's you play the team vanquish mode for the first time to let you get used to it. And at first the worse you do the more points and upgrades you get for your playable character. The character are fantastic fun and all their abilities are different like the "all star" zombie. He shoots american footballs from like a home made chainsaw looking gun and he has the ability to stick american footballer shape defenses in front of him so he can use cover behind them and then as you play more games you get more rewards for that character and you will get more upgrades. All in all this game is so much fun graphics and the game sounds are great.Id recommend this game to anyone that likes multi player games. ( even if you're not great at them)

Im a big Battlefield fan, and bought this game as more of a 'pick up and play' type game, for the £24 quid I paid for the game I really can complain. The game runs super smooth, is great fun to play, but perhaps wont have the longevity of some of the other titles on offer today. The game only has 2 main multiplayer game types Team deathmatch (Vanquish) and a combo of conquest/rush (Gardens and Graveyards) I have only played Vanquish so far, however I find it pretty good fun! each team have 4 character types that resemble the standard FPS 'Class' types such as assault, medic, suport and engineers. They work really well togetherThe other game mode which can be played locally or online is Garden Ops which is a normal 'Horde'mode type game with 10 levels and 2 bosses, as well as ending on an extraction style (similar to titanfall)All in all this is well worth a purchase if you are looking at something more casual to play, which is well designed, runs well, and you dont have to send your children to bed to play it then get it!As for the low reviews, they are from people who didnt understand the game they were buying, or those that for some reason have rubbish connections, as I dont have the best connection in the world (around 5mbs) and have not had one incident of lag or connection loss

We saw the in-game footage and thought not for us. There are very few co-op games on Xbox1 where the main adversary is the game's artificial intelligence - the computer. We are OAP's and love first /third person shooters BUT we cannot compete with younger players in the multi-player environment. Our reactions are simply too slow.Against our better judgement, or so we thought, we bought PvZ for the co-op 'horde' mode. It really is fun. It's Gears of War in fancy dress. We can't believe that we have serious discussions about whether to be a sunflower or a peashooter, which plants are best for which plant pots, and calling out "I need a daisy here"As the game progresses it becomes clear that this it has a very complex upgrading and scoring system to match any 1PS.Tactics too need to be considered, Chompers on roof tops are really useless and the garlic drone, part of Cactus's armoury, is very difficult to manage. We've even tried the multi-player and as the game is played by the very young and it is not intended to be serious, we sometimes are not in the last few, in score terms, on our team.If anyone out there fancies playing co-op campaign's with two OAP's then just ask me a question about this game and let me have your gamer tag. I'll be in touch through Xbox Live.

First of all I would like to mention that this is not a traditional plants vs zombies game, instead of the 2d tower defense style, this is a 3rd person shooter. When I first saw this game many months ago I wasn't sure how it would convert, I'm pleased to say they have done a great job. I have been playing this for a couple of nights now and it's really addictive fun, it is online multiplayer only (so yes you will need xbox live) you can either team up to take on the zombie horde or 24 player team death match. The presentation of this game is fantastic and the graphics which while not mind blowing are more than adequate plus when hordes of zombies are running at you, you don't have time to stop and admire the scenery.Don't listen to reviews slating this for not being 1080p, this is just sour ps4 owners who spend their time trolling xbox one sites as they don't have any games to play (and yes I own both consoles). My only gripe with the game so far is it can sometimes take a while to find a game and can dropout before a match starts, but hopefully this will be sorted out with a patch in the future. Overall if your after a fun colourful break from the dullness of cod or battlefield I would highly recommend this game.

Gother this after seeing it online time and time again. Glad I did.Gameplay is split into two main modes, garden ops and multiplayer. Garden Ops is a series of waves playing as the plants, one of four classes with different strengths, this can be played solo or upto teams of four. Difficultly can be changed too for those looking for a challenge.Multiplayer is where most of the fun is, those who have played Cod might recognise some modes such as team vanquish, gnome bomb and vanquish confirmed. Best one in my opinion is gardens and graveyards which is defence and attack gameplay. Each map very different with separate ways of approaching the objective or defending it.Which ever mode you play you have different skins and customization options open to you, which adds a bit more depth to the whole thing.Controls are easy to get your head around too, graphics are smooth and I have had no glitches or crashes while putting a lot of hours into this already.

I found that since buying this on a whim because of the price we've been playing this all the time in our house. Titanfall has barely had a look in.For the Whingers out there, It clearly says 'ONLINE ONLY' and 'XBOX LIVE GOLD REQUIRED' on the cover... This is nothing new! You've needed a gold account to play online since the 360 (and XONE) came out in 2005!!Also for those folks concerned about your kids safety etc why don't you set the parental controls on the Xbox that's why they're there..Also on that note I've found the only annoying thing with this game is actually the noises coming from screaming bambinos and mum/dad whizzing the hoover round on a Sunday morning and it coming blaring out the 5.1.Thankfully the 'Mute All' button appeared after a recent update.Anyway this game is a real gem and as another reviewer said it's nice to have an fps with vibrant color and the emphasis on fun for all ages.

I haven't had this kind of fun with a game in a long time. It's a simple kind of fun, everything is intuitive and well designed, you'll learn everything really quickly and won't ever feel like you're worse than anyone else in the game.PvZ transfers fantastically from a tower defence game to a shooter. The art style and music is also as goofy and colourful as you'd expect from the series. While you can still plant flowers in pots to defend your base (a garden, of course), the central difference is that now you control one of four plants (a pea-shooter, a chomper, a sunflower healer and a sniper cactus) each with a variety of special moves. You can even play as the zombies in an attack/defend game mode with huge teams.Expect hours of fun,not only with the gameplay, but chasing achievements and collecting coins to unlock new characters and weapons.

This is a surprisingly good game! Yes, it's only online - but that's where the fun is generated - uncertainty!I can honestly say I've NEVER put so many hours into a game - and over the years I've certainly put many hours into playing video games!Great variety of characters mean that even the best players will get caught out by some of the characters abilities - makes it more of a level playing field than such as BF4, COD etc - and when you get 'vanquished' (the word kill or death is never used on this game), more often than not it is with a smile on your face rather than with annoyance! All DLC for this game will be free and there are (currently) no in game purchases - which makes a refreshing change! The first lot of DLC was added in March, and adds quite a few new features and modes to the game.Must dash ..... time for another game!

I've been waiting for this since it was announced as I loved PVZ1 on PC and console. Though the fps genre is getting old this is a great refreshing way to play it once again! The humour is still there, the creativity is definitely there and all round it's just a fun game to play and you just lose track of time. The gameplay is smooth, with all the characters being pretty balanced (some weapons here and there need tweaking), customisation adds a whole bucket of diversity among players, even including different type of dances!Matchmaking was a bit dodgy for Garden Ops in the beginning but I believe that is sorted out now and is pretty smooth as well, with connection hardly ever being slow or laggy.Overall worth the money as I was amazed at how much I would enjoy this and with free DLC it can't get better! Well done PopCap!
