Let's start by getting one thing straight. Worms: Open Warfare is a strategy game for two kinds of gamers. The first is the Worms loyalist; the type of player who loved the series on the PC and home consoles and would love to have a handheld version that's comparable. Second, this game is for newcomers and strategy lovers who ate up Advance Wars, Fire Emblem, and any other unique, turn-based strategy title. Every other type of gamer will see this as another Worms rehash. Open Warfare classifies as such, but when good, addictive gameplay crosses my path, I don't hesitate to snatch it up. Rehash or not.Set in a 2D, side-scrolling world, Worms is a game where you need more than the best strategy to win. You're given an army; a tiny, sluggish army that has an unusual fondness for high-powered explosives. The main goal is one of destruction. It's not about picking your best man (worm) as much as it is about picking your best weapon. Picking the best weapon(s), you'll soon find out, isn't enough either. While the gameplay is turn-based, actions occur in real-time. Dotted crosshairs indicate the potential reach for your weapon - how high and how far it can be shot. But to nail the target exactly where you want, you have to be precise when activating the weapon's charge meter. The more the meter has been charged, the further the weapon will be shot. For most weapons, aim is controlled with the top and bottom directional buttons. You hold one of those buttons to move the crosshairs around your worm. Crosshair movement is circular, and stays close to the worm for most weapons. To hit far away enemies you must make some predictions, which would be impossible if it were not for the ability to scroll across the entire level to see exactly where your enemies are. The DS makes it easier (and faster) than ever by allowing you to touch the part of the map you wish to view. The game jumps to that part of the level the instant you touch it. This, unfortunately, is the only part of Open Warfare that feels like a DS game - the touch screen is also used for weapon selection, but that's hardly an interesting way to take advantage of a unique feature. As unique as the series is, Worms: Open Warfare isn't that different from its predecessors. If this is your first Worms game, you'll be in love with it as much as I was with my first. But if it's your second or third, you might not get as much out of it. The series hasn't stopped being fun, not even with its four or fifth rehash. It's still clever and addictive. So while I wouldn't call this a "new" Worms game, it's definitely worth checking out, especially if you love strategy games but have yet to get your hands on one of these slimy little buggers.

Worms Open Warfare on the DS has one major flaw, it only has 23 weapons, far less than previous worms games, I mean, where is the napalm strike? the donkey or letter bombs? With that out of the way I can tell you that the game still has plenty of pros, the main one being that it uses the touch screen well without it seeming like a gimmick. Simple weapon selections and menu navigation isnt exactly ground breaking but being able to scroll around the map with the stylus is pretty neat. The graphics as you would expect arent groundbreaking, in fact it looks like Worms has done since Worms 2 in the 90's but this game has never been about form over substance and at its heart is the same great strategy game we all know and love,in my opinion this is easily worth your cash and will easily while away a few minutes or a few hours on a long train journey.I think the sound effects warrant a special mention too, the voices in particular are great and the one liners are funny. Oh! and the multiplayer supports single card download play and "Hotseat" (where you pass the DS to the next player) so if you get fed up of the AI teams you can play against your friends.all in all this game is basic but still great fun, buy it and see!

Worms is a game that feels like its been around forever, on almost every video game platform. And there's a reason for that - its a gem. Buy it.As Xmas is rapidly approaching, I've been buying a lot of preowned DS games as 'stocking fillers'. (And, I'll admit, a couple - like Europe, Squad Command, Rome & Worms - for myself to play too). Almost all the youngsters have a DS/2DS/3DS so these games make excellent small presents. BUT a couple of things to remember ......... 1. Make sure the description says the full game/instructions/case are included are loads that say 'cartridge only'. 2. Buy spare cases, because a lot will arrive in shabby cases, or more likely will be rammed through your front door slot, breaking the case in the processand those broken cases can have sharp plastic shards). 3. Order in good time as most are sent via standard RMail.

Thanks to all daft enough to criticise this game, you allowed me to get it for a song having just taken the plunge and purchased a DS! Been a fan of Worms since the Amiga and so am all for these great games being released to the DS glitches and all, THQ & Team17 please roll them out like clockwork. A word on game glitches, Worms Armaggedon on the Amiga 1200 it was possible to tunnel in then turn and fire with the bazooka guns of navarone style out of the tunnel, a glitch eliminated in the following release to the playstation I believe, so Team17 can I have my glitch back please!!

I bought this game ignoring the reveiws on here about it not being very good.I thought the game was good and great for two players when you fight against each other.i had the worms 2 game on my pc an i thought it was great and basicly you have the same thing on the ds.i agree that there are not many weapons on the ds version but there are enough for what you need to play the game.my only down point would have to be is dont buy the game new get it 2nd hand cheap.its not worth the full price of a ds game but around £15 is what i paid an im happy with it.

I can understand why some people wouldnt like this, but i personally thoght it was great!although some great weapons are missed out, and there can be the occasional glitch, this is a great downsized version of worms.easy to pick up and play, simple controls, and lots of tactic involved make this game good fun. One really good feature is the fact that all the weapons are now selected on the touch srceen meaning that you no longer have to pause the game to select your weapon. If you are a worms fan, buy this now!

it is the most greatest game i have ever played . It has great graphics cameras are good and it has good weapons and great things but there is no wifi settings to communicate but i think it is brilliant but not really for adults i thinks its more for 8-15 years old really so because i am adult i would give it the star rating of 4or 3 because i have to be honest with you its not one of the worst or best games really like i said at the start i think it is in between do any of you think that ?
