One strategy game has redefined the combat simulation genre. Previous incarnations have sold over 8 million copies, and another sequel was inevitable. Leading a team of war-hardened warriors, armed to the teeth with deadly weapons, you must defeat the enemy on the roughest terrain know to man. Such an arduous task requires the skill of the elite, the best of the best... it requires a team of two inch pink worms! That's right, those lovable, high-pitched worms are back, and in full glorious 3D. The gameplay remains the same as previous adventures, comprising of turn based combat. By adjusting the power and trajectory of your chosen weapon, you must aim it as close as possible to your enemy. There are a huge variety of wacky weapons on offer, including exploding sheep, flatulent old ladies, homing pigeons, Holy hand grenades, and my personal favourite, the banana bomb. The main bulk of the single player experience takes place in Campaign Mode. Here you take on a number of themed, goal-oriented missions. As you progress, new levels, modes and weapons become unlocked for use in the rest of the game. The first level recreates the D-Day landing scene from 'Saving Private Ryan'. Later levels include a 'King Kong' spin-off, and many more iconic landscapes. You can also take on additional tasks in 'Challenge Mode'. Missions include shooting moving targets in the 'Shotgun Challenge', and racing against the clock in the 'Deathmatch Challenge'.For people new to the 'Worms' phenomenon, and those struggling with the new 3D design, a comprehensive tutorial is available. Play through this and you will soon be competing with the best of them, and maybe unlocking even more levels along the way. There is even a 'Wormapedia', providing a complete description on all weapons and items. This level of detail is represented across the whole of the game, making it a pleasure to play.Worms 3D supports up to four players in Multiplayer mode. Here you can take on up to 3 friends or computer controlled teams in endlessly customisable battles. Everything from the number of weapons, team placement, round time, and even worm accent can be tweaked to your liking. Thanks to the random level generator, no two matches are ever the same. You can also manually customise a levels theme, time of day, and number of land objects, height and size of playable islands. If this seems like too much hard work, you can dip into the 'Worm Pot' (A lottery-style grab bag of options) and create an infinite number of game parameters. Still sounds like too much work? Then the 'Quick Start' option is for you! One press of this, and a new game will start straight away.Team 17 have done an excellent in bringing the game into the third dimension. The Worms are superbly animated, offering a variety of expressions and mannerisms. Levels are equally detailed, with each one bursting with a distinctive character. Humorous cut-scenes, made popular in previous games, are your reward upon completing a level. While the graphics already seem a bit dated, they serve the game well, and put other strategy games to shame. From the toe-tapping Menu theme, to the 38 selectable Worm accents, the audio track is one of Worms 3D's best features. Choose a voice track for your team, and then listen as they abuse your opponents throughout the match. Recommended selections include the Super Hero, Wrester, Teenage Angst, Welsh, Nagging Wife and London Cabbie voices.Worms has made the transition to 3D effortlessly, maintaining all of its charm and humour. With infinite level designs and excellent single and multiplayer options, Worms 3D is one of the best strategy games on the market. It's anarchic sense of humour and cartoon presentation will appeal to even the most casual gamers. Featuring almost limitless replay value, Worms 3D is definitely a worthy investment.

Well, thank you very much Team 17. That's another social life you've just ruined. I suppose I should clear my diary for the next three months now, there's no chance of me leaving the house for some time.Worms, for the uninitiated, is a gloriously simple game that burrows into your brain and resolutely refuses to let go. Anyone over the age of 25 will probably remember embryonic versions of this turn-based warfare on BBC or C64 computers in the early 80's. My rubber-keyed Spectrum has a game called Tanks, where two players faced off on a 2D landscape altering the angle and power of their static turrets to try and land a shell on their opponent.Worms 3D takes that game model, plonks it in a beautifully crafted 3D landscape, replaces the tanks with legions of squeaky voiced, death-or-glory worms and leaves you to rain carnage upon your friends with an inestimable array of hideous weaponry. The millions of hardened 2D Worms players will already now how infuriatingly addictive these games can be. Part of the Worms appeal lies in the fact that any novice can pick up a controller and lob bazookas and grenades about the landscape with aplomb, but it takes practice and an appallingly loose moral code to really begin to hurt your enemy.Worms 3D requires a little more patience to get into. Some of the camera angles are a bit ropey and the environment can seem daunting at first. However, after a solid hour of watching my worms inadvertently hurling themselves to a watery demise, I began to adjust. Veterans will find themselves having to learn the whole game all over again, but thankfully it's worth the investment. There can be no greater joy than releasing a highly explosive sheep over the hills and watching him gambol away, mewing happily, before you cold-heartedly detonate him in the midst of your enemy. The graphics are gorgeous, and the sound is perfect, particularly the subtle 'Splosh' when you blast a worm in to the sea. This game will wreck relationships, savage friendships and tear families apart. So, leave your soul at the door and embrace Worms 3D. It's sick, depraved and stupid. It's a truly magnificent game.

Yes, those loveable invertebrates are back. Y'know who I mean, the guys you put on a hook and feed to fish. (Cruel beggar.)It's been a while since the Worms series has seen the light of day. Worms World Party was on the PSone, Dreamcast and PC but it kinda sank without a trace. This game, however, deserves a cheer. With Sega behind them, Team 17 have really pushed out the boat! On the visual side of things the graphics are great. High resolution textures, with great lighting effects. Yeah, even with an explosion. The graphics are the same on all the consoles, which is good because people who own one console can't complain that their mate with a different console has a better looking game. The sound is average. But I guess sound isn't too important in a turn-based war strategy game. It's still good to hear the high pitched screams of the characters as they get shot or fall off a cliff though. Ah, the memories of the original Worms on PC. (I don't wanna remember the graphics though. Errr.)The one thing that alot of games are overlooking nowadays, is the control systems. Worms 3D is a pain to control. It's hard to put my finger on exactly why the control system sucks as much as it does, but it seems to be a combination of many things. The calibration, the button placement and the responsivness for example. This not only goes for the PS2 version, but the 'Cube and Xbox versions too.Overall, I'd say it's worth it, 'cos when you get a group of mates round, it rocks. It's a top party game! If only you could control it a little better.

I love the worms titles, always have and this is the jewel in the crown. I can't say enough good things about the gameplay, graphics even the pure comedy that is assured with this title. The conttrols are easy to pick up and the tutorials will have you fighting like an old pro in no time. This game has more options than you would ever need and as expected really comes to life when you play with friends, truly brilliant. I do sadly have two complaints about the game and one is quite off putting. The first complaint is minor and is that the camera angles can be annoying at times and make life difficult for that all important shot. The other problem with the game is that it crashes a lot. After missions the screen tends to go blank and thats it, you can't save your game or anything plus there are audio problems with it too. I'm kinda hoping they will release a bug free version but i think the chances are slim. It's so close to being an amazing game, sadly it's faults are very annoying.

Worms 3d is a truly stunning game, the developers seem to have but that little bit more into every element, resulting in a very rewarding game. The game has a very satisying learning curve being easy to sit in on a worm war and start notching up kills, but dedication and practice are needed to master yur full compliment of weapons. The game structure is also very rewarding, the main appeal being the multiplayer mode, but by playing through the challenge and missions single player modes, extra terrains, weapons and skills can be gained to enrich the multiplayer game. The game does have some minor flaws such a sound samples sticking occasionaly, but really this is a small price to pay for such depth of play.I personally find the control system works well and apart from an occasional odd stuck camera angle, all is good.A truly funny game with almost infinite options, playability, stunning 3d grapics and lots of interesting ways to dispatch the enemy worm.

Worms 3d,is unlike all the other worms games, it has much better and easier game control, and a new assortment of weapons :-Old Granny.Cow.Airstrike.And (of course) Super sheep! The levels are great fun and you can even re-enact your favorite battles, such as the D- day landings. Also the worms talk in really hilarious accents. I was never a great worms fan, but this is a must buy game. Even for beginners, the easy game controls make it quick to pick up. I rate this four stars and the reason that I didn't give this game 5 stars is that I think the levels are less of battles and more tactical. I would recommend this game to anyone and is much more fun that your ordinary garden worm!!!!

This is one of the many games I bought for a recently purchased PS2 for some good nostalgic gaming. It's a fun game but can prove to be a bit boring sometimes. Good overall though.

A good laugh for multiple players, works well for parties or when friends visit. It can become a little repetitive at times but really brightens my day after work.
