Last year, gamers really started to go wild for the Nintendo DS all over again. Not just because of the DS which was redesigned into the DS Lite, but a whole new era of mental challenge games attracted new gamers young and old. Mainly, with Brain Training, the Nintendo DS got older gamers into the scheme of gaming and excitement from verbal memory games, to introducing Su Doku, the challenging puzzle game that have really made gamers go wild. Unfortunately, there have been many knockoffs to Brain Training like Mind Quiz for the PSP, that really haven't delivered and attracted the feeling that Brain Training delivered. Now, a sequel to the original mind bender that started it all, returns to the Nintendo DS, but is it good as it was before, or falls short on memory?Brain Training 2 for the Nintendo DS tackles on more exciting puzzles than before. The gameplay is expanded nicely, but there are also a lot of changes to the gameplay here in the game. The first main change is that a lot of the verbal games like the color strooping exam were removed, because there were a lot of problems with the microphone use in the game. Instead, there are a lot more games that feed off nicely from Nintendo's other DS mind-bender Big Brain Academy here, where you have to comprehend how much you have to give back as change in pounds and pence, to memorizing a song on a piano. Another new game is called word wheel, where you have a series of letters spinning around, and you have to fill in the exact word, one letter at a time. There are also a few things that have returned here, including the picture drawing challenges, but especially the Su Doku puzzles, withe over 100 new puzzles to test your mind. The graphics are just as simple as they were before, but the gameplay is just even more addictive than it has been before, and the control also handles that just as well. All in all, with so many mental games in the video game market right now, Brain Training 2 really does deliver nicely for the Nintendo DS. If you haven't tackled the challenges before, you may want a new mind-reading workout. I loved the original one, and I really like the new addictive challenges. I absolutely suggest you buy this sequel, and keep that brain sharp.

O.k. It's a great game, but the critics are right, the repeated instructions on the 'Brain Age Check' are extremely annoying. But the is a way you can get the games that you want. I discovered that by pressing the 'Start' button, just before you go onto the 'Brain Age Check', then the selection screen will come up and you can choose what you want to play! Unfortunately, once you have unlocked all of the games, there is nothing else to. AND, like everyone else is saying, the voice regognition is rubbish, but all you have to do to avoid using that particular game is say, 'I Can't Speak'! All that changes is one game to replace the voice game. To unlock 'Germ Buster',you have to go to the minigame selection screen and tap the botttom cell. Basically, those who are willing to try it, don't if you like adventure games, for it will be a hugh dissapointment. But it does what is says on the back, but be aware,1) Voice regonition doesn't recognize your voice.2) There are only 10 minigames. It seems like alot, but really, once you get round to going on them every day, there are't many options.3) Instructions for the 'Brain Age Check', go on on on and more on's. There is no escaping their wrath.4) When it says 'Multiplayer', it does NOT mean you have all the games as you do on your own. You have 4. And one of them has to have at least three people. Word Scramble ( A bundle of letters are rotating in a circle. You have to un-scramble them so they make a word.), Memorise 5x5 ( You have a 5 by 5 grid full of numbers. You have to memorise them, and draw them out again after they have dissapeared on separate 5 by 5 grid.) and Correct Change ( A game where you have an amount of money, eg. £5, and you have another amount of money, eg. £3.50. You have to touch the right coins that will give the change, eg. £1.50).5) Sudoku, is one thing that, alright, it is boring if you don't like it, but if you are one of those people who gets hooked on things like that, then this mode will be the highlight of your new DS Game.I hope I haven't made this review to long, but I think that the most important issues are covered. :-) ;-)

It seems that most people have a 'love/hate' relationship with this game - it's a Big seller, but that's probably mostly due to the fact that Nintendo are very clever at creating must have fads.Anyway...I like this game, it's fun to play and I do feel better after playing it - I felt kind of like I'd let my brain stew a bit just lately (and with a brain age of 69 on my first test I think that proves it!)After playing this game for about a week my age has gone down to 30 (and during the day when it's not being recorded on the graph I've got the elusive 20 too!)I have to also say (LOUDLY!) I've never had ANY problems with either the writing or the voice recognition. The only time the voice recognition had failed is when I've said the wrong thing and changed my mind mid word - that's pretty understandable really, it is a computer program after all and not a human.Anyone getting crotchety over a 'wrong' result due to the software making mistakes, just sit back a minute and think - "I know I still got the answer right" - meaning your brain IS being trained no matter what the software says!!My only complaints (and they are small) are that I have done the 'Calculations 20' in a ridiculous 18 seconds, which is only classed as 'Train Speed' within the context of the game - surely Flying or Rocket Speed Dr Kawashima please?!My other criticism is that you can play the training and brain age games as many times as you like during the day, but only the FIRST time is recorded on a graph - very unfair seeing as that's never my best one, mainly because I'm under the pressure of being tested. I think there should be some 'averages' type thing for the graphs, the more you play the more accurate it gets.I say to anyone on the fence of buying this - make your own mind up. I think that any kind of intellectual pursuit is good for the brain, and this DOES seem to work for me....don't buy the game purely because of the hype, but also don't be put off by the bad reviews.I'm going to continue playing!

OK - so I am behind. I never played the original brain training, and I only just bought my DS. I am 32. I have got tired of consoles and games. I recently played on my friends PS3, and yeah the graphics are great, but the gameplay on the games is the same old stuff it has been for the last 10 years.Nintendo are changing all that. Just as they did back in the say of Game and Watch. Not only is the DS an innovative format with the stylus and two screens, but they are getting games released that will change gaming forever.I love the way this game interacts with you. It keeps a track of real time, and is a genuine training assistant. If you log on at 11.50pm he says, my it's late, you know sleeping is good for you, if you come back day after day he congratualtes you. It is a very small detail, but it just makes the whole thing very personal. The format works really well. Nice touches like for left-handed people it flips the whole thing round so you can easily play it.The games are not graphical wonders, they are very clever and functional. They stretch you brain, just as they are supposed to, and you will find yourself competing with your personal bests to improve.I haven't explored the whole of this game yet, as you keep earning extra features the more you play.I congratulate Nintendo for bring genuinely innovates games and platforms out - and joy it is selling more consoles and games!Buy this game as soon as possible.

and it doesnt feel like your doing work, all the games are strangely enjoyable even though its basically maths and english. this installment has a great new list of tasks, although if you've played the original some may seem a bit familiar, but on the whole its a completely different game.as for voice recognition, i know it can be a problem but you can get round it by saying you can't speak and do written tests instead, but i have to say, i have had few problems playing rock, paper scissors but it might just be me.it is the most addictive game i own for my ds, and no matter what you'll keep coming back to play it, even if he does say your brain is tired and your a pensioner when really your in your teens.that brings me to another point, the game isnt designed for teenagers (getting a brain age of 20 is something you cant really do if your not 20) so its great if you want to introduce your family into gaming, and as it essentially has no genre should be good for just about anyone. it plugs the gap in your english and maths and you will be good to have that whatever your age or profession. As a student its brilliant, because at uni you learn and focus all (well maybe all) of your energy about one area of study, and playing this every day just fills in the blanks for all the others important ones.seriously a great game for any age, gamer or non gamer.just exceptionally good

Other reviews can tell you about all the features in this game, so I'll try to keep it short. The training programs are more varied and enjoyable than the previous game's. Some of the challenges include unscrambling words, remembering numbers and even playing a musical piece. However, I did find a couple of the games tedious. There are also again plenty of free or assisted Sudoku puzzles and a hidden mini-game which is quite addictive. One of the big irritations from the previous game remains - poor handwriting recognition. As well as numbers, you will have to write symbols and letters, which the game may often fail to understand! Voice recognition is also a bit unreliable on the Rock, Paper,Scissors game. All the training programs can be unlocked in only about 2 weeks of daily playing, so you may not have much motivation to keep training afterwards. I suppose though players might also give up if they were not rewarded so regularly! You may also get irritated by Dr Kawashima with his reptitive comments after every session, Some are even the same as in the first game.If you enjoyed the first Brain Training game, you should like this one too! If you don't have either, I would recommend buying both games. Whilst I think overall the second is better, I prefer the warm-up games and Brain Age tests in the previous.

I have been playing the previous game for the past few years and really enjoyed it.. but this ones a completely different level. It is so much more challenging, especially the word blend and memory addition. It seems to recognise my hand writing much better than the first, but I have absolutely no hope with the rock, paper, sissors game, it doesn't understand my speech at all.Unlike the old game you can spend longer on it doing the tests, I am not sure if there are more, or if they just take me more time. One of the things I find frustrating is the way it scores you. For example on word blend or word scramble, it takes your time as being what determines if you are good or not.So if you pass on all the word scrambles you finish quickly and you get a good score, the same as word blend. The masterpiece recital is always giving me a good score, but as my husband says, my music is totally out of time and sounds awful so surely it should also take that into account? All in all though, I do recommend this game, it's still a little buggy and there are a few things I would change, but as a sequel to the first brain training its great.. and it really does help, as does the first (I found after spending a few weeks working on this I was more alert and able to do my work better.. I am a programmer)

It became a habit of mine training my brain for common problem solving and develop more speed while doing such tasks. Very little games do develop your brain in an meaningful way, but this one is probably the most known between Nintendo DS/3DS owners. The game interface is very simple, with a restrict selection of mini-games included, so don't expect graphics or complex soundtracks here, but for its purpose, it's one of the best around (that doesn't include monthly subscriptions, to say the least). The mini-games are creative and you receive some feedback after playing, with ways to develop your skills by yourself with daily activities (outside playing the game, of course),keeping track of your best marks and even space for up to 4 people training on the same cartridge. Also, if you just want to pass some time, it has sudoku and plenty of tips for beginners, as well as plenty of games available in all difficulties. The downsides of this is that it only trains your pre-frontal cortex, which means other abilities are left aside (like attention monitoring and logical analysing). Also, it seems the "brain age check" always put your "brain age" higher than your actual age, which is kind of frustrating.Overall, it's a good game. Just don't expect much of it.

I ordered more brain training in the post a few days ago with a nintendo ds lite. It came yesterday and i am really enjoying the game.I have played on the first one at my friends house and loved it and because my dad wanted me to have a brain training game i chose this because the first one is good, this is meant to be better and id never played big brains academy. I also chose it because of its great reveiws and because you can play music. I LOVE MUSIC.I like it because you can play the keyboard (thats the best game so far that i have been on) and you can solve many maths and english problems. I also like how sometimes when you log on you are asked to draw pictures or write acrostics, then when everyone who has an accopunt has finished you can veiw them.Being able to play sudoko is a great feature and the totourials are great for people who have never played the game. There is also a begginer and intemeadiate levels that have tips and hints. You can use cheat mode but i find it easier without because you can make lots of mistakes not just 5.I am a child but still love the game, so do my brother, mum, dad, and cousin. I am going to see my nan tommorrow and im hoping she will like it too.I recomend this game to everyone. WHATEVER AGE!!!!!!!!

I bought this game a few days ago and have found it very very addictive, even our 14 yr old son, who said he didn't want the game, is playing it daily and says it's one of the best games he's got! Before I bought the game I read some reviews on Amason where people are having problems with the DS recoginizing the word 'Scissors'.Firstly, the instruction book says that it helps if people are not too close to the DS when speaking, and that women and children should speak in a slightly deeper voice, this is because the game recognizes mens voices better. But if there is still a problem recognizing the word 'Scissors' i'm sure this will solve the problem:-We have found that if we say the word 'Scissors'as though we have a lisp (ie. thithers or even fiffers) the word is always recognized. We found this out quite by accident when our son, who does suffer with a lisp, was having no problems at all. We tried it ourselves and it works!!Last of all I would recommend this game to anyone, young or old, who wants to have lots of fun exercising their tired brains and keeping them in good working order. I hope this is of help.

There is an absolute brilliance in a series of games that encourage you to use your brain, I maintain my belief that this game is deserving of an award of some nature. As the second instalment of the popular game it has a lot to live up to and I am glad to say that the games are as addictive as those in the first, if not more so. As in the first game the objective is to lower your brain age to that of 20, which the game states is the best you can get. Some might say that it is frustrating that the game cannot produce an IQ reading or anything of any particular meaning, however I think that the real point of the game is that it doesn't want to seem like it is making you work.If you can make using your brain fun, then you will do it frequently and you will enjoy doing it. Schoolteachers could learn a lot from this game. I already firmly believe that since having made Brain Training part of my daily routine, like brushing my teeth, there has been a noticeable improvement in my memory and concentration as well as my mathematical skills. What a wonderful thing to admit as well.

I certainly found the games in the sequel much more fun than that of the original. The original games did train your brain and were quite addictive, but in my opinion, that was for the sake of getting the highest score which many people wanted to do. However, the games in the second one are addicitive purely because they're more fun. It even includes an extra game which relaxes your brain, rather then training it, which I must say is the most addictive. Buy it and you'll be playing it for days, trying to get a brain age of 20. Basically if you enjoyed the first one, buy this. If you haven't got either but plan on getting one of them, get this one.+ Fun games which train your brain.+ And as if that wasn't enough, there's also 100 Sudoku puzzles.+ Budget price of 20 pounds which is more than good value.- Exactly the same layout as the first game.- Some mini games are a bit boring.

Okay to state it's not what I expected is a bit clumsy as it's obviously a product to help train the brain but in terms of enjoyment and lasting appeal it certainly has it!I havn't played the original so to delve straight into this title was a bliss. Instructions are clearly laid out and nothing too complicated or long-winded. I've played it for 5-10 minutes everyday since I purchased it, all the 'game's are enjoyable. One negative is that voice recognition is still a little undeveloped but I've only needed to use it for the one game so far. The idea of having a personal accomplice works perfectly with this and makes you want to beat your record and come back to acheive a better brain score, even congratulating you or rooting you on to do better.I'm 21 and can cclearly say this game is one for all ages, possibly my best title for my DS I doubt I'll be leaving this one for a while!

This is a good fun game everyone can try, although some of the challenges are seemingly impossible! It can, however get a little repetetive at times. My review here is to mention 3 flaws in the software.1) In the 'match the symbols' game, if you draw the percent symbol (%), the game quite often mistakes it for the Euro symbol ().2) In the 'word blend' game, sometimes the London accent can be hard to understand, ie "culture" is pronounced as "cawcha", which is tricky if you're from the North, like myself.3) In the 'days and dates' game, the software has real trouble recognising when you write 'Thu', no matter which way you try and write it. I've not tried tuesday yet but assume it's a similar problem,as it doesnt seem to recognise the letter T, whether written upper or lower case.So overall a good game but with some flaws. I'd recommend it.

As the last reviewer insructively, but perhaps unintentionally, demonstrates, there is a fatal flaw in Dr Kawashima's premise that higher perfomance can be equated with youth rather than intelligence.Whatever conceptual and empirical doubts it may raise, these pale before the commercial folly of trying to persuade a 19 year old to be excited about a game whose only goal is to establish that your brain is 20. If it tells you that your brain is 20 (unlikely) you wonder why you spent the money; but if it tells you your brain is 80 you know it's talking rubbish.Of course it's quite different for anyone over 40, who is quite ready to be flattered. Not to mention terrified of being put in a home.Someone really should explain to Dr K though that the time-honoured method of establishing aged-related brain damage is to ask who the prime minister is.
