The battlefield series was hit and miss on last gen, BF2 was a decent effort, BF3 was a disaster rife with bugs, rip off story and painful scripted events plus minimal destructive environment. BF4 was a bit of a return to form albeit with iffy servers (BFH I haven't played but seems to have mixed feedback). Now we have a breath of fresh air with a return to WW1, the last good war game set in the past was probably COD world at war, but WW1 games on older gen with old technology weren't really fun to play nor realistic (voice acting, characters etc) and had since been forgotten, but while COD trails further haphazardly into the future with its games, Battlefield does a u-turn and here's the result:Visuals: 9.5/10Very nice visuals, sumptuous environment (puddles, mud, overgrowth and flora in Argonne forest etc) even mud and rain on the weapons or dirt on the screen after an explosion, the dynamic weather more likely seen on large conquest maps is also enjoyable. Really not much to complain about here, the game would've been more realistic with more blood or visuals cues on players where they were shot etc to really capture the horror and realism of war, but other than that really nice visuals. And when things explode, do they explode! (Dreadnaught battleships, Zepplin air ship which comes down with a big crash creating a dust cloud) attention to detail has been paid in these aspects. The destructible environment is very present in this game and works wonderfully as a building can be torn to shreds. The models of the weapons are all done nicely and the tanks/vehicles look like they were pulled right from that era. Not sure some automatic weapons existed then (other than the Lewis machine gun with a black round drum on top you see on the bi-planes) but the game wouldn't be as fun with only bolt actions.Sound FX: 9.5/10Can't fault anything with the dialog other than the out of place commentator in multiplayer, a woman who sounds a mixture between British and eastern European..just a bad choice, like Doom's commentator. A different commentator for each army like a commander egging you on to win the fight would've been much better, and so sound FX loses half a point. But everything else? The epic music, the explosions, the gunfire which sounds very tangible and life like, the whistle of mortar fire or bombs, the shouting of characters and dialog reacting to different scenarios like shouting "sh** gas! Gas!" When mustard gas is thrown, or thanking you for healing them as a medic. In the campaign most the characters and their dialog is also done well.Gameplay: 10/10Single player is divided into several episodes set in different countries with different story's and characters, it's about as long as your standard FPS campaign (more COD length than Doom) and the storyline and characters are done mostly well, the missions are fun to play through and give you a good feel for all the elements of the game (tank, infantry, stealth, plane etc) with some notable highlights, like the battle atop a Zepplin over London as the American pilot with a typical devil may care pilot attitude. Or as the young tank driver and crew trying to survive though France in Black Bess the tank. Voice acting/dialog is better than past WW1 games in that it's like a movie rather than a p*** take with exaggerated accents. Think Robert Carlyle might actually be the tank commander, not sure.Multiplayer, the reason many will be buying this: firstly the game modes, you have a few you'd expect, team death match, pigeon find, domination (small scale CTF) conquest (large scale CTF) and operations, like conquest but 2 huge maps divided into several sectors where attackers push forward by capturing checkpoints from the defenders and try capturing all several sectors, attackers have a set amount of soldiers and 3 chances in the form of 3 battalions). This is a slightly story driven game mode (think max Payne 3) and is done quite well, altering victory or defeat speeches based on the overall outcome. These matches can last for over half an hour and with the dynamic weather feel quite realistic. The losing side in these bigger game modes get a helping hand near the end in the form of a mighty vehicle (dreadnaught battleship in the desert, zepplin airship over Europe, or armored train in the city, not sure if argonne forest has anything. There also horses you can ride, a motorbike with side car, truck, armored truck, military car, tank, light tank, attack boat, awkward planes and bombers. Sentry guns and artillery emplacements can also be manned. The lobby during the loading screen isn't great, a lot more could've been done with it, showing the players, letting you see their stats, editing your classes, anything, but you just get a window with a battle pack you can open if you gained any, and a window to select a medal to aim for via challenges. There are additional game modes, fog of war (apparently low visibility, no hud and just pistols/melee) also hardcore which I look forward to playing as there's currently only core modes and bullet sponges. There are several classes to choose from, each with specified weapon sets to unlock and equipment, the medic for instance has a surprisingly good selection of medium range rifles (which probably should've been put in the attacker class who has only close range) but also a revive syringe, bandages, healing crate, making them a very important class for your team. There's the attacker class with short range sub machine guns and shotguns, plus heavy explosives like anti tank and dynamite, great for causing chaos and wrecking buildings. There's the scout class, favoured by campers with a selection of long range sniper rifles, and trip wire/defensive gadgets like a prone shield with a small firing hole. There's support class with heavy machine guns, vehicle repair spanner and mortar etc. Overall though the classes do stand out well and mean you will be selecting different ones for different situations (running though the trenches with a sniper rife won't end well for you, with a machine gun however?).Classes can also select a variety of grenades, all the ones you'd expect (incendiary, smoke, high explosive, and the evil mustard gas) classes are all equipped with a gas mask that they physically put on and will save you from gas attacks. Most weapons can also be equipped with a bayonet where you can do an iconic bayonet charge, maybe a last ditch effort in the trenches or when you run out of bullets, but also useful if you're having trouble getting through a bunker room's doorway if the rooms occupied. There are also special classes that spawn in the map in a box for whoever grabs it first (sentry which gives you a legal high rate of fire double clip machine gun, and armour, and flamer which gives you a gas mask and medium range flame thrower)Finally you acquire new weapons via war bonds (game currency) gained by leveling up, but leveling up and war bonds especially don't come often, so use them wisely.Multiplayer maps? Mostly all done well, some might need warming too, to understand the layout and such, the Italian mountainside on operations is a bit awkward as its a mountain side, having long range fights constantly at different elevations, but otherwise the maps all present different opportunities in terms of tactics and gameplay.A free tip to make the game easier as I didn't actually notice until owning it for a few days, down on D-pad changes weapons fire mode from single to automatic if it has it (down by a single white bullet or row of white bullets)Verdict: 9.5/10Definitely a worthy purchase with a lot of fun to be had. Some highlights to share from multiplayer, jumping off a zepplin and parachuting down onto a large rectangular balcony/walkway surrounding a courtyard and shooting a sniper who was puzzled, then turned the other way and laid down as I landed, and got them.Fighting for a final checkpoint in a trench sector in operations, crawling through a trench filled with gas with a gas mask on reviving team mates and shooting anyone who appeared through the mist, and hoping the bombardment around me wouldn't blow me up.Fighting for a last checking in Amiens the city map, in an up stairs room with my team whilst the building was being blown to hell.Or the battle for a last checkpoint in the game in some old ruins, in the fog as dynamic weather kicked in, with bullets and people coming from all directions.Multiplayer creates lots of intense moments not many games this gen will be able to replicate.Pros:- Great visuals- Tangible weapons and gameplay- Nice Sound FX- Good level of destruction- Just a fun realistic game- Servers actually work fineCons:- Out of place commentator- Dull loading/lobby screen- No hardcore mode just yet- Plane controls are bit weird- Few bugs here or there, but personally haven't come across much

This is the World War shooter than many have been waiting for. A combination of satisfying gunplay, realistic campaign missions to replicate much of what actually happened and all out multiplayer carnage to create one of the most rounded experiences I’ve played for many years. Graphically and audio wise this game is a masterpiece with amazing lighting effects, immersive surroundings and large scale open maps and missions that give you the freedom to choose how you want to go about a particular task. So a bit of background first, I’ve had early access to this game via the EA Access program and have been playing it for a few days now.I’ve finished off the campaign and played around 12 hours of multiplayer.Firstly i would like to start by talking about the single player campaign, after a few short sections where you are introduced to several different characters (all believable and realistic). You are then greeted by a giant map showcasing 5 different sections, each represents a different part of the war and naturally a different playable character. Possible the first one “mud and blood” is the most realistic and believable as it follows a young lad in the British Army on the front line in France as part of a tank crew. The film “Fury” with Brad Pitt springs to mind. The campaign seeks to drawn you down a winding emotional road, almost a rollercoaster of a journey. One where you do actually want the characters you play as and those around them to survive, naturally it isn’t all fairies and Christmas lights, the game is totally brutal and savage at it’s core and from that aspect i think DICE have nailed the atmosphere and surroundings in which you play. You’ll have moments where sneaking around is essential to succeeding so as not to alert every German to your presence. At the same time if you are spotted and don’t have a silenced weapon you can opt for a good old bayonet, enjoy the moment as you charge screaming at your opponent only to impale him through the neck or torso, like i said, Brutal! So rather than playing the part of one person throughout the entire game DICE decided to create many different characters and it works. You won’t find a boring moment in the story although it is fair to say you will find a few bulls**t parts, mostly around hit detection when using a tank or trying to find a weapon that actually has ammo. Naturally being battlefield, EVERYTHING is destructible, now when i say everything i really do mean every building, vehicle or obstacle.I love world war shooters; indeed i prefer them to anything modern or futuristic. Why? Simply because if you give people a normal rifle that is slightly inaccurate and conventional ways of moving around a map then they have to work harder to get the kill or reach the objective. Futuristic shooters like Black Ops 3 where you can have multiple kill streak rewards and can see through walls or jetpack across a map make it far too easy in my opinion and to be blunt remove any form of skill or teamwork. In this all you get is a rifle of some kind, your boots, standard kit and that’s it. I love the raw nature of it, which brings me on to the multiplayer…The multiplayer in this is a match for any Battlefield game of the past several years. You have all out warfare with a variety of different modes including capture the flag and my personal favourite “Rush” where by each team takes it in turns to attack or defend objectives on the map. Once a set of objectives are lost then the defenders move back to the next set of objectives. The defenders win if the attackers use up all their spawns before all objectives have been destroyed. The reason i prefer this mode is it forces teams to work together for a common interest, sure you get the usual lone wolf gamers that go off and prefer to snipe across the map but for the most part it’s a good mode if you value teamwork. As with all Battlefield games, having a group of friends you know and trust and can communicate with is essential to succeeding. Equally this isn’t a game where by the aim is to get the most kills, Battlefield is all about the objective and looking out for others in your squad. Speaking of squads you can have a maximum of 5 people per squad and you can spawn on any member wherever they are on the map. You get a choice of 4 different class of soldier, Assault, Medic, Support or Recon. Medics can drop health packs and revive people that have been downed and support players can drop Ammo packs, i cannot state how important it is that you have one of each in the squad!!Pros: The game looks gorgeous * Audio is stunning, especially the campaign music * Satisfying campaign * Excellent plot and characters * Servers are stable * frame rates are stable * guns feel realistic both in how they look, sound and fire * Dynamic Weather * Fully destructible maps * different modes to satisfy everyone * Bayonet is very satisfying * you get to ride a horse and fly an old school plane * Some of the best cut scenes I've ever seen in any gameCons: While the campaign is brilliant it is far too short (i clocked six hours) * Hit detection online can be hit and miss (hopefully sorted with a patch) * Some terrible spawn locations * weapons lack sufficient upgrades or variety * Domination mode is limited to 12 per side * Too many automatic weapons which are overpowered * Loading screens take an age * War pigeon mode is retarded and was clearly included as a joke * Model 10-A shotgun is dramatically overpoweredVERDICT: Despite the negative points i'm loving this game, it's a massive improvement over Battlefield 4 and at least it works at release. If you want a World War I, first person shooter that has a decent campaign with plenty of variety added to a brilliant multiplayer system then this is the game to get. If DICE bring some more modes and weapons attachments then the experience will only get better! It's not perfect so i can't give it 5 stars, ideally if i could it would have got 4.5/5RECOMMENDED!

As someone who has only dipped their feet into the Battlefield arena a few times this was one of my first purchases of the franchise. I had played Battlefront a lot and was impressed with how Dice rolled out the extra content over the course of the year so I bought the pass to accompany Battlefield 1.Over the last three months I have not played this game as much as I would have liked, unfortunately the likeability factor for me is not as strong as Battlefront. I feel the game is geared towards the hardcore gamers and people that want to grind their characters to high levels. As a casual gamer but one willing to put in some time if I enjoy the game I do not feel the experience is rewarding enough.=======Battlepacks=======One 'reward'that you can receive are the battlepacks that contain weapon skins. I find this unnecessary as these are cosmetic upgrades only, I would prefer something you can add to your gun like a sight, something to change the way you play even if it does not give you an advantage.======= Graphics======The graphics are superb, if you wanted to feel like you are in the battlefield itself then this game provides it in spades: forests are lush, deserts are awash with sandstorms and cities are condensed with destructible buildings and claustrophobic murder holes.======= Single Player =======The single player campaign is found wanting, you take the form of different characters at different stages of the war in short stories. Some of the characters are more interesting than others and the characters that deserve a little more time seem to have the shorter of the stories; in particular the Italian perspective which could have done with a few more segments. If you are a well seasoned gamer you will blast through this in no time, I tried to take my time with it but it still did not last as long as I wanted. The story does provide an insight to the war and definitely draws upon the emotional aspect of it.======= Multiplayer =======The multiplayer is clearly the biggest focus of the game with many maps and modes to take part in. A welcome addition for those with a lot of time on their hands is Operations which allows players to take part in battle over a few areas as part of the same match.During a match you are part of a team with the team leader pointing out objectives that you can work together in taking, this can provide a good camaraderie experience which has been lacking in previous shooter games. You select a class of soldier and from there you can customise your weapon, albeit with not many changes to sights, handles or anything that can truly change how your fighting experience will turn out.You start with some primitive weapons and the battle experience can be a frustrating one until you unlock further weapons (which can take some time, believe me!) which makes it better. If you die, it takes a little too long to get back into the action and you lose momentum in particular when the battle is heating up on game modes like Operations or Conquest. With nothing to truly to unlock (unless you want to grind away towards the weapons you can buy when you level up) there is very little to push you into wanting to play for longer. The battles can be a bit samey so this is why I bought the premium pass…======= The Premium Experience =======I bought the premium pass and so far I have been disappointed with it, considering how much it is I have so far received nothing that I can say has been worth it. I hope over the next few months this will improve and the content will become available to provide more maps as well as more weapons. Battlefront constantly added new weapons and new ways to play and it’s because this was so successful that I hope the ones for Battlefield will prove fruitful.======= Conclusion =======In conclusion this game has a lot of potential but Dice just need to change a few things around to improve the gaming experience. I am happy I bought it and I still like playing it but I feel the reward aspect needs to be better to keep me playing.

I am new to the Battlefield franchise and after seeing the trailer and playing the BETA this game is something I've been wanting for a very long time, I love war games based on true events not the same old futuristic stuff we see nowadays. I'll start by saying this is by far the best FPS I've ever played (and I've played a ton of FPS over the years), the graphics, the game play, the really impressive draw distance and the realistic sounds effects all make this such an amazing experience, the level of detail gone into the maps is insane, the game has a dynamic weather feature which means the weather can change suddenly which will impact the game play massively not only that but I noticed whenit was raining you can actually see little drops of rain hitting your gun and running down the sides which again adds to the realism (each map doesn't have a set programmed weather scheme either so you could literally play the same map 10 times without even seeing some of the more serious weather effects as it's all randomised). There are also many weapons in the game so every player will find something they like and feel comfortable using and each weapon has a little information about it so not only are you playing the game you're also learning about WW1. There are 9 multiplayer maps in total however we will be getting a free map in December, so that will make it up to 10 Multiplayer Maps, each Map is unique and extremely large you can choose between 20vs20 players or 32vs32 players (I think everyone just plays 32vs32 i'm not too sure why they have this as a feature), there are many different game modes to choose from each too so if you do eventually get tried of playing a certain game mode you will always have another game type to play, The game play is smooth, the loading times are very fast and depending on which game type you play on each match can last between 15 - 40 minutes (I play a game type called conquest and each game usually lasts for around 25 minutes on average) It's worth buying for the multiplayer player alone! I have included some screenshots from 4 of the multiplayer map, it's so you hopefully get an idea of the level of detail gone into the game. I purposely tried to not show much of the map so that it doesn't ruin too much as I think it's a special moment when you see it for yourself for the first time.I'll now talk about the Single Player, although I haven't played much of the single player just yet however from what I have played I really enjoyed it the game doesn't just have 1 big campaign it is broken up into 6 mini campaign these are called 'War Stories' after completing the 2 prologue missions you are able to choose from any of the 6 war story's that you want to play first each war story has around 6 missions. I choose the war story called Through Mud and Blood which shows the life of a young soldier named Edwards who operates in a tank along side other soldiers. I have only played 2 of the 6 missions from the war story so far and i'm genuinely really enjoying it and I have to say they're lengthy and really interesting missions. One of my favourite moments was the pigeon scene which was absolutely incredible! I look forward to playing more of the single player and learning more about WW1 history and I think this game does and excellent job of teaching you that. 5/5 from me!

Battlefield 1 is a great game,I am new to this type of first person shooter, the learning curve is quite steep but I found the campaigns a great way to learn the ropes before heading off into the world wide web to test my skills in the multiplayer arena. The single player campaigns are designed to give you experience in all of the online arena's, using a good array of weapons and tools. You will get experience driving a tank, piloting a biplane, riding a horse, attacking from and using a horse as a weapon. I found the tank section very interesting. One of the campaigns even has you sending messages using carrier pigeon. After several weeks of learning the tricks of the trade in the campaigns andthinking I was getting quite good at killing in the game I went out into the virtual world to try my hand at the online multiplayer games.I quickly found I am not as good as I thought. The online games allow you to choose which side you want to fight for, The sides are dependent of the particular battle you are fighting, you could be germany against Britain in one battle or italy against austrohungarian in another. After you have chosen which side you want to fight for you pick a squad, the squads comprise of between 3 and 5 team members. After the game starts you are presented with a map of the battlefield with all objectives showing, the objectives are labelled A,B,C,D and E.You will also see where the freindly forces are, squad members are green dots other friendly forces are blue dots with the enemy showing as red.You choose what type of soldier you want to be, each type will have a different set of weapons and tools and will play different roles in the battle.Scouts will be spotting enemies for team mates as well as sniping from a distance to try to take out as many as possible.Assault, these are the infantry soldiers, they will have an automatic machine gun as well as anti tank weapons to clear the battle field at close quarters.Medics carry medical packs to revive dying soldiers as well as medium to long range rifles.there are other classes but these seem to be the most popular. When you are killed in the game you will have two options, if there is a medic close by (this will show up on the screen after you have been killed) you can wait to be revived or choose to respawn in another location where you will start again. The battles seem to end suddenly with a message on screen, either defeat or win, this is whether your overall team has won, you play a small part in the battle, after this you can see how you did, how many kills you had and how many times you died.Although you should try to kill the enemy, the game is points based so the kills are only part of it, you will get points for spotting enemies as well as killing or taking part in the killing, points are also awarded when a squad member spawns close to you in the battlefield, during battle you will be able climb into various vehicles to help as well as hopping onto any free horses.I find the whole experience confusing and frustratingIt is not easy, I find myself being shot or blown up regularly before I have seen any enemy soldiers, they do seem to creep up on you.All in all I do enjoy the game, it is challenging, frustrating and enjoyable.I am determined to get more than 2 kills in a game sometime.

I got this game a while back digitally via the Xbox live marketplace and loved it that much that I bought a second physical copy, albeit at a lower price from Amazon, for my son so he could take the battle online with me from his house!A long time ago I used to play the Call of Duty games alongside EA's offerings and, to be honest, preferred them until they became 'spray and pray' types with servers full of the 13 year old and below age group so in the last few years I have stuck with the Battlefield series.Don't get me wrong, it has been a rocky road with EA in the past with some excellent additions and some not so but I stuck with them regardless of this purely to game with other adults.Fast forward to Battlefield 1 (titled as such as the action takes place around the first world war)and EA pull this one out of the hat, an amazing multiplayer and campaign game that is very much back to basics as far as warfare but modern and advanced in gameplay and graphically.Rather than centre on one character or squad for the multiplayer, EA decided to go with multiple storylines centring around fictional individuals involved in that horrendous war from various nationalities and backgrounds giving each character its own poignant storyline which is both harrowing and heartfelt and shows that actual people and not unnamed numbers fought in the great war. These storylines are displayed separately on a map of Europe and can be selected in any order the user wishes where, after deciding your difficulty, you are greeted with a cinematic intro to the character before the game starts proper. The missions are both engaging and entertaining and really give you that feeling of being an individual, a small fish in a big pond if you like, where the odds are stacked against you and the expectation of survival is low. You find yourself involved in battles in everywhere from central Europe to the Arabian desert as you fight on foot, in tanks and take to the air to both prevail and survive. Having finished all but one of the campaign missions I can honestly say that it is likely I will do them all again at some point, enjoyable as they are, to experience the game again.Multiplayer is yet another improvement to a couple of the previous titles in the series where the graphics and mechanics have been given a significant boost for the enjoyment of the user and the variety of maps, like the locations in the campaign, is very impressive. The game retains the destructible environments it is famous for and delivers them in a visually stunning way that really makes you feel involved and at the heart of the battle in the most absorbing and engaging way.The audio gets an overhaul too, particularly with surround speakers or headphones where bullets are zipping overhead and explosions boom further afield which really adds to the immersion. Finally it is the gamers that make this game special, very little of that 'spray and pray' mentality, as they tend to go more for objectives and teamwork than 'KD ratio's'. This is what has always made the battlefield series special! In short, if you enjoy first person shooters and like to play the objective in a visual and audible feast then look no further you will love this!.. and with a brilliant campaign to boot!

Being a long term Battlefield fan I was relieved to find that their take on World War One was every bit as good as I hoped for. While not the most historically accurate take on the conflict (where are the French?), its definitely the best looking and the most playable. As with previous Battlefield titles there is a strong story driven single player game. In this case it is separated into chapters with different characters showing different aspects of the conflict. This emphasis on it being a world war is a strong theme of Battlefield 1, rather than just show the conflict on the Western front you get to experience fighting in the Italian Alps, the deserts of Arabia, and the beaches of Gallipoli.Future expansions promise to portray the Eastern Front as well.Multiplayer features a number of different modes to choose from, including the ever popular Rush and Conquest (a new mode called Operations even features an extended version of Rush). The maps look amazing, beautifully detailed and are completely destructable. A vast array of vehicles are available to choose from including tanks and aeroplanes, as well as the trusty old horse. The basic classes for multiplayer are now Assault, Support, Medic and Scout. Each has their own weapons and special abilities to choose from, and ranking up in each class unlocks new weapons and special equipment. If you jump in a tank or a plane you also get a separate tanker or pilot class with its own advance scheme.Experienced Battlefield players will find much of the gameplay familiar, however you have to take into account the older technology. Weapons all have an optimum range for damage, fire from too near or too far and the damage drops off rapidly. This means for example that Scouts acting as snipers have to be much closer when firing than they would in modern era games. Without the assault rifles, red dot sights and other technical gadgetry of the modern era the weapons are harder to use but on the whole they seem well balanced, no one weapon is good at everything.I have a few niggling criticisms of the game - most annoying is the fact that anyone can now repair tanks and other vehicles from the inside. While this was probably introduced to stop people jumping in and driving off while you are repairing a vehicle, it does make tanks a little overpowered. There are anti tank guns around the place and most of the classes have some anti-tank capabilities but tanks should not be the focus of a World War One era game, and I look forward to some infantry only servers being set up in the near future. Those criticisms are only very minor points though and do not lessen the enjoyment of this truly awesome game. There are so many jaw dropping moments to be had fighting with your friends on these virtual battlefields. Its admirable too that all of it has been done with a respectful attempt to remind people of this epic conflict and the people who died in it. If the only way to remind people of this war is to make a game out of it, the result is at least to bring it into peoples conciousness 100 years after it was fought. This is a highly memorable game and one which succeeds in every way at what it sets out to do.

I've been a gamer for as long as I can remember, from Duck hunt on the Nintendo NES to Call of Duty and Battlefield on the Xbox one.If I'm asked, I'd say that first person shooters are my favourite genre of game and I've played pretty much every FPS that's been released.BATTLEFIELD 1 is a serious game changer! I enjoyed the previous Battlefield games, not just because of the ability to drive various vehicles... But they were games that were completely different to the Call of Duty franchise.Don't get me wrong, I've played all the Cod games and whilst there will always be a space in my game collection for COD... They are more of an arcade game compared to the experience of BattlefieldFirst off, when you play battlefield and you're hiding from a tank that's rumbling past, you actually feel a bit scared because they could blow the entire building up with you in it. It feels more like a FPS war simulator opposed to the COD arcade feel.In battlefield, you have to work as a team and to do this you can choose from different classes that each have their own contribution.Scout is snipers for long range cover, Assault for the close up battle, medics to help heal wounds members of the team, mechanic to help repair the various machines your team are using and finally Support roles so you can provide ammunition for your team mates who are running low. Combine all this with huge immersive destructible maps with a range of land and air vehicles and realistic physics that makes the game more challenging then this is what makes Battlefield the game it's known and loved for today. There are a number of types of games you can play which are similar to other team based games on battlefield and call of duty like capturing the flag or mission based objectives that will always give you something to do and keep you interested. Then there is the time the game is set in.....WW1! The game offers a campaign story which follows various soldiers and their individual story from what they used to-do before they were called up to running through the water logged battlefields covered in barbed wire. The amount of research they have gone to in order to deliver a Game that's not only visually impressive but also as close as it could be to being in the trenches yourself... As it was back then. My grandfather died fighting in WW1 and playing this game maker you realise what they experienced and went through to provide the freedom we have today. You can read all the history books but this gives you a small taste of what it was like... Although in real life you don't get another go when you die.... This is as close to real war as I'd ever want to get and has helped me realise how amazing these soldiers were and what they had to do.For me, everything in Battlefield 1 is 5 stars, although it's not without its faults as I'd everything. There are some glitches that are quite funny and there are a number of YouTube videos showing these. Here's one I made the other day which can show you what can happen ?Paste this into YouTube for the video:2gAu_IN2HG8If you've enjoyed FPS like COD or previous Battlefield released... You'll love this!

Finally Battlefield 1 has been released and EA have taken a big risk moving the series into World War 1.In a nutshell the risk has paid off big time and EA should be pleased with what they have produced.I will start with the campaign which is told from multiple different perspectives and characters about their experience in WW1. The prologue throws you right into a trench battle which is gritty, grim and deadly. As you would expect with Battlefield the sound design is top notch, simply brilliant and I would recommend a soundbar or surround system to get the full experience. The campaign does keep things simple which more than enough is moving forward in a linear fashion and taking objectives and such. However it is done very well and the vehicles are integrated very well especially the British Tank which I enjoyed the most. Graphically the campaign is beautiful highlighting EA and DICE's engine, the mud has puddles and a dirty sparkle to it and the character models and excellent. Facial movements during speech are intricate and realistic and the war time feel is here. I will say that although the campaign is good it certainly isn't the most memorable storyline wise but accomplishes what it needs to which is conveying that WW1 was brutal. All in all you are looking at around 5 hours maximum to complete the entire campaign and probably 6 hours on hard mode which doesn't pose the biggest challenge.Multiplayer is back and supports up to 64 players on the larger game modes such as conquest. There is a fine selection of game modes on offer and I have had no connection issues that I experienced in Battlefield 4. A breath of fresh air along with a steady launch! There is the usual weapon customisation and the battlepacks are back. The maps are wide open and varied showing diverse worlds as such, also nearly everything in the maps are destructible so using a canon on a tank or Dynamite will have a really big effect on the map layout. Weapons wise there is a good mix of WW1 era guns which would be a difficult aspect of the game as most shooters nowadays are all fully automatic, Battlefield 1 doesn't punish you for selecting the bolt action rifle over a machine gun and each weapon is noticeably different and has their benefits and drawbacks.Progression in multiplayer seems somewhat limited when you take into account the limited unlocks available. Also added to the multiplayer is a mode called Operations which is a sort of recreation of a certain battle between Germany/USA/Britain/Italy etc. It reminds me of Rush and Domination with the way it plays and is a welcome edition to the franchise. An operation could take well over 45 minutes to complete a whole match so it will keep you busy. There is currently a 2GB update will only take around ten minutes to install when you first use the disc but bear in mind there will be more to come and I'm sure within a few weeks that update maybe around 45GB.All in all this will shower all over Call of Duty and their space age stuff and it shows that going backwards in war games can be more satisfying than going forward.

Honestly I thought I liked it for a day or so, but the less aware I was that this was the newest Battlefield in the series the less I could actually care. Taken it at face value it looks improved graphics and performance wise. Naturally as thats time and evolution from a AAA development budget. Thats aside, its a reskin of Battlefield 3 and thats my honest feeling. I must have sunks 1000's of hours into BF multiplayer since Bad Company 1 and everything since. Its fast becoming the new Call Of Duty in the sense that the formula has for the most part has remained unchanged in over a decade.Thats great for new comers but for people who have been doing the Battlefield thing as long as people like myself it got boring with the release of Battlefield 4.Unfortunately Battlefield 1 is no different. I in a sense feel like its a slap in the face the way Dice and EA have at numerous times in the game and in promotional made reference to the senseless slaughter and death as a result of WW1 yet cashed in on the war and said slaughter, paid lip service to African-American troops at a time when modern racial division is rife in North America, blatantly add and subtract real historical value such as arms and weapons just to deliberately make the game more accessible and playable. All "prototype" weaponry and ideas that Dice felt was required. Out are the real bolt action rifles changed now in favor of weapons that sport C.O.D World at War holographic sights and plate armored men sporting flamethrowers and Gatling guns ala Rambo. In short BF1 made for a fun game for a few hours but feels less like the old great Battlefields and more like a C.O.D. Battlefield hybrid.Personally I reckon it will do well, not because its a great game, its not by any stretch. I think so many people will, and have jumped over from C.O.D. because said players got tired of C.O.D.s same tried and tested formula. Its fast becoming the very same thing with Battlefield. Same game and modes every year except a different time, location, weapon and accessory reskin plus an optional fee for premium for some maps and modes that fall out of rotation after 6 months because nobody plays them because the novelty wore of and realised the premium content actually sucks.Point to note, online connectivity is still ropey, and can cause alot of "shoot first, die first" as is typical of Battlefields upon new release. Granted all Battlefields improve over time and updates.Whatever people try and say or tell me this is just Battlefield 3, 4, Hardline and last years Star Wars Battlefront just repacked and reskinned. Its still fun albeit frustrating as hell at time due to technical issues, but fun nonetheless.

This review is dedicated to the single player campaign, I have zero interest in the multiplayer section of the game.I have played previous Battlefield campaigns as far back as Bad Company. I tried the multiplayer in a few of them but never really enjoyed it, I prefer smaller maps and quicker gameplay as opposed to the large open battlefields.I was so excited to play a WW1 FPS on this gen of consoles that I purchased the game full price on release, normally I wait for Battlefield games to reduce in price but I just couldn’t wait to play this one.The game is gorgeous throughout, the atmosphere is top-notch and the gameplay is certainly enjoyable. The opening section felt refreshing and original. The campaign is separated in to 5 stories each with a number of sections, all varying in length and quality but none going over the hour mark (personal experience). You take control of a number of vehicles in the campaign and the missions always seem to throw something new at you to keep the gameplay fresh, although I did find myself hoping for on-foot sections time to time. The gunplay feels great, all the vehicles handle well and the game definitely has that unmistakeable Battlefield feel to it, which in my opinion has always felt a bit clunky and slow. I am aware this is the style of the games but for me it is a negative, but that is purely down to my personal preference. The game for me has one major issue – the single player length. I completed this in a couple of sittings and I think in total it was near the 5-hour mark. Even though the experience was enjoyable throughout, the games length actually makes it fairly forgettable. The final ‘boss’ was infuriating and felt completely out of place, in my opinion. The games length and frustrating final level gave me little to no incentive to play through the game again.I’m in two minds about this game, I enjoyed my playthrough (except for final ‘boss’) but it was so short that I couldn’t really immerse myself with the game. I really wish they had put more in to the individual campaigns as they were so enjoyable to play through, they just need a bit more effort and time and it would have been one of the best single player FPS experiences in a long time.If like me, you only want to play this game for the single player then I can recommend playing it but only on the very cheap. It will be worth the wait and for a low price it will be a great pick up. If you enjoy multiplayer games then do not hesitate to pick up this game!!!

This Is a stunning game to look at and so far great to play, please don't listen to the negative people on here because its simply some of the comment are not true it is by far the best ever WWI game too come out.But having said that I will point out the things I don't like about it, Most of my points are to do with the flying or planes, now I do know about WWI aircraft before anyone comments and have studied WWI aircraft most of my life but claim to be no expert, as well as my family and my late brother who was looking forward to this game. The problem I'm having is the way the planes handle and the speed for starters, you get the impression they are moving faster then the real planes did, like about 2 to 3 hundred miles an hours which is simply not true, these planes were very slow moving and although from the pilots view they may seemed faster I'm sure not this quick, I know this is petty but I do wish that games and films about WWI planes get this right like for example the Red Baron Film which looked good but was just silly how they moved around. The second point is the fact you can't go in cockpit from the planes just first person all the time in single player mode which is strange because when ever you see this game being reviewed it shows in-cockpit views that must only be in the multi players version which brings me to this.Another point is were are the planes in the multi player version I have two pack with my game one being the Red Baron pack but I can't find any planes to fly in the multi player version maybe someone can tell me?.Also in the single player version all German planes are Red this was not true, because Manfred Von Richthofen was the only pilot to have his plane painted Red even though it was called the flying circus the other planes were bright colours and not just red, surely DICE could have changed this.Another point is during the WWI fighter aircraft were a new thing but as the war went on, some of the German and British planes that came along were nothing short of amazing to say the least like for example the SE5a or Sopwith Camel, the only plane you get to fly in the single player mode is the Bristol fighter which was a nice plane but not ground breaking, so why is there only one plane to fly don't make any sense. But like I said apart from this it is still a good game I do hope that there are more planes in the game later on because that would make this unreal and all that work that went into making this game seems pointless.

Battlefield 1 has fantastic atmosphere, brilliant locations, brilliant sound and good gameplay - for the most part. It's a thinking person's shooter which demands more of you than the simple running around in tight spaces and gunning anything that moves as per COD. Single player is one of the best off line experiences of any recent shooter and it's so refreshing to play a game which reflects realism and gives a nod to historic events again rather than all the futuristic space tosh that's filling the shelves at the moment.BF1 does however suffer from the usual Dice traits. You get temporarily stuck on twigs, pebbles and tiny undulations of ground when running forward.Jumping up onto rocky formations takes 5 presses of the button instead of 1 (which is frustrating when being shot at and is a shame as leaping over a 5' wall is seamless and well executed). Hit detection is, well, hit and miss. I have pumped 6 rounds from of a powerful rifle into someone's head and upper torso from a fairly short distance (and I know that the aim was true) only to see the other party turn around and fire one or two round to kill me. And no it's not my aiming or that they had a better gun before anyone offers a smart reply, it's poor hit detection, pure and simple. The usual delays for re-spawning after being killed also make the usual Battlefield appearance. The worst thing about the game though is the majority of people who play it. There is a lack of any sense of team cooperation amongst players on all but the minority of matches in MP. You can have 40-60 players on your side (apparently) but what you end up with is 60 individuals running around in a complete gaggle. A good proportion of the them choose to ignore objectives altogether in favour of perching on some distant hill or building at the furthest reaches of the map pinging pot shots at the other team with their silly sniper rifles, none of which contributes to winning the match to any discernible degree whatsoever. I can't really blame Dice or the game for this as it's true on many MP games that attempt to create a team concept. I've tried climbing the hills to execute cowards and malingerers on my own team but sadly blue on blue doesn't seem to cause any harm. So, unless you have a bunch of mates who happen to be free to play at the same time as you, consider yourself on your own amongst a gaggle of halfwits.BF1 is still a great game but be prepared to be frustrated and thrilled in equal measures.

Great game, the best battlefield game to date in my opinion. Graphics are amazing the landscapes are rich in detail and vehicle and character models look amazing. The only negatives I can think of are to do with the Campaign. Overall the campaign is good but out of the 5 different war stories you play through during the campaign some are clearly better, and seem to have had more time spent on creating them than others (the first war story "Through mud and Blood" which follows the crew of a world war 1 tank is easily my favourite and it feels very similar in style and story to the movie "Fury"). I think the main problem with some of the war story's is that they do not last long since there arefive of them so its hard to become attached to some of the characters in such little time (the first story I mentioned earlier seems to be the exception to this). Overall its a good solid campaign though and each of the five war stories you play range from Amazing to average for me. In my opinion It is a must to play the campaign on hard difficulty because the campaign is really easy on normal (especially compared to battlefield 4) and hard difficulty just adds a bit more length to it making it feel more immersive.Multiplayer is where this game really stands out and gains its five star review. Conquest matches which are huge 32 vs 32 battles played across huge maps are truly epic, everything on the battlefield is destructible which just makes the experience feel so much more immersive than other games. Starting a match on a pleasant green countryside setting with villages scattered throughout and then later in the match seeing all these villages, buildings and general landscape totally destroyed is an experience you wont match anywhere else. Weapons feel and sound awesome too and what makes the multiplayer so good compared to other similar games is that it really is about teamwork, you don't need to be good at getting loads of kills in this game (although it is satisfying when you do) you can literally spend the entire match being a medic healing your teammates and helping them capture control points and you can score as high up on the scoreboard as anyone.Overall Battlefield 1 is probably the best large scale 1st person shooter multiplayer experience you will find anywhere.

So, I'm a COD fan....I play that first and the BF series second. I like the instant gratification of COD (well I did), but it's now getting a little tedious. To the point I probably won't buy the new one on release day (an absolute first). I've enjoyed the BF series but mainly for the campaign, I've always found the MP difficult to get into. However BF4 MP got under my skin fairly recently and the BF1 beta had me hooked.Picked up a copy on release day and I've been blown away, it's amazing. The MP maps are sublime, pure poetry. The detail, the atmosphere, the down right brutality. It's a real stand out feature of the game. So much so that I don't think there is a map I don't like.Add to that the sheer number of maps and considering this on release day I'd say it's a perfect start. The atmosphere, from the delicate background music to the battle explosions to the spade hitting chaos is just captivating. Maps can be big or small and number of players on each side just gives you an unbelievable experience. Although it can be a bit too much at times, howevere 10v10 is still an option. The weapons I really had reservations about, but fear not they are varied and fun to use. The tanks whilst basic still play a big part in the game as does the air support.Gamplay is everything I hoped for, I love the way you observe the map and then drop in. As soon as the action kicks off in the 64 player battles the sense of panic is quite pleasing, probably the closest thing to war as you can get sitting on the armchair. The negatives, not many at all. The interface I still feel is complicated, but mainly because I'm a COD fan I guess. You die a lot, it's not irritated me yet but it does feel like it takes too long to resporn. When you resporn, unlike COD, you respond on sides. The problem with COD now is every room has 5 openings and resporning has become a joke. This doesn't feel like that at all.I haven't stopped playing this all weekend, it's EPIC not to mention fun, fast, difficult, challenging. I think, and this is brave, it's the best FPS since Call Of Duty 2 hit the PC many years ago. I'm shocked at some of the rubbish reviews and don't understand them as this is a true masterpiece, although maybe they are annoyed you can't boost jump or run along the walls.
