This has been a long time coming and the anticipation in gaming circles amongst the old school shooter fans has only grown at the countdown to launch has drawn near.So to those that don’t understand what this game is allow me to fill you in. Siege is an ONLINE ONLY first person tactical shooter with NO single player campaign or offline modes whatsoever. At this stage i will give you the best piece of advice regarding this game. ONLY buy it if you have a friend or friends that are prepared to buy it as well. I say that because this is a game where teamwork is absolutely crucial and success online hugely depends on your ability to talk and work with others.Teaming up with random people will often lead to losing the game especially if the people on your team don’t speak the same language or don’t have a headset. Understand that talking with others is essential in this game and without it you will struggle to have fun on a consistent basis. So onto what you can do. There are 3 different areas to the game including “Terrorist Hunt” which is where you can team up with 4 other players and take on AI controlled military personnel and you can select the difficulty of the AI, even normal can be difficult if you don’t know what you are doing. The aim is to kill the terrorist on the map and locate the two bombs and defuse them, while defusing them you have to defend the area as waves of enemy AI swarm you. Your team wins if you defuse both bombs and the terrorists win if they kill everyone in your team. Naturally there are no respawns! If you die then you get to sit out and watch the rest of the round, watching your team mates play and naturally you can switch between them and indeed their drones. Sadly in Terrorist Hunt you can’t play as the terrorist and defend the bombs against the AI, only attack! The second area is “Multiplayer”, this removes the barrier of not being able to defend an objective which can be a hostage, bomb…etc. This time around it is 5 vs 5 with no AI. Attackers have access to different gadgets than defenders. For example attackers start each round with a remote operated drone that you drive around the map and can go up stairways, under door barricades, air conditioning chutes and hide under objects such as tables. The aim is to locate the objective before the round physically starts and if you find any enemy players you can mark their position to make it easier when you begin your assault. As attackers you also get access to specific gadgets such as door and wall charges. Oh and be on the look out for floors and ceilings that can be destroyed, you might be able to land on the enemy team in the middle of it allDuring this time the defenders can erect wooden door barricades, reinforce walls making them indestructible, plant remote c4, lay barb wire which slows enemy personnel down but doesn’t hurt them, and plant electronic jammers on the floor which disrupt drones causing them to fail. The key is to plant the jammers before the round begins to stop enemy drones from discovering the objectives location. The defenders also get access to any CCTV system that is currently available in the building you are in, my advise is use it well! Numerous times i have already spotted enemy players flanking our position and the cctv has saved our bacon. Each team alternates on the same map usually playing it a few times and then the map will rotate onto something else although you aren’t given a choice as to which map, it is randomly generated. The other areas are “Tutorial” and “Situations”, tutorial is essentially what it sounds like and most shooter fans won’t need to visit this area. Situations is essentially a theme based training area, after completing so many you unlock new ones, think of them as mini training missions but with rewards at the end, i recommend you do Situations first before entering Multiplayer. Control wise it is very call of duty/ Battlefield like so most people should feel right at home regardless of whether you use a keyboard and mouse or controller. There are several different maps, some larger than others and most if not all have several different levels and most building can be scaled. Some will have lots of different structures and others have one single house on the map. Virtually every door and window along with most walls can be destroyed but not all. Some are naturally barricaded and can’t be destroyed. Now down to the character creator, or lack there of! Instead you start off as a generic recruit who uses standard weapons without any attachments, you do get the option to switch to a secondary weapon and swap out a flashbang for a smoke grenade as an example but your optional are limited and the loadouts are inaccurate and hard to get decent kills with. It’s only when you get enough “RENOWN” which is the in-game currency that you can choose to unlock an additional operator. You can choose SAS, FBI Swat, GIGN, Spetsnaz or GSG 9. Each specialist force has 4 operators. 2 are attackers and 2 are defenders. Sadly you can’t use an attacker if you are defending; you must unlock a defending operator! Each individual operator from each nations force has their own separate perk. For example, if you unlock “Sledge” who is an attacking member of the SAS then his special perk is a breaching hammer which can quickly break through destructible objects. However, if you unlock “Kapkan” who is a Spetsnaz defender then his perk is the ability to set booby traps on windows and door frames. If you get a good team together it is essential that you all go as something meaningful and bear in mind that you can only have one of each person in the team, the best bit of advise i can give is ensure everyone is playing a part they are happy with and know your classes perks and above all USE THEM.There are multiple weapons available, including secondary ones, sidearms, gadgets and different types of grenade including EMP. Most have attachments available to them such as scopes, silencers and grips, which all have an impact on the stats and usability of the weapon concerned. Be aware that everything costs renown, this gets me onto a downside. Unless you are winning games on a regular basis then renown can be incredibly stingy and hard to come by, indeed you get nothing if you lose the match even if you got a few kills, unfortunately it is winning team take all.You need 500 renown to unlock your second character alone, that’s before you add any attachments to the gun and a simple red dot sight can cost 150 renown, unlocking new characters and getting weapons attachments will take time believe me.Pros: One of the best tactical shooters to hit the market in the last few years * Massive emphasis on teamwork and using your classes perks * Well balances classes * Good balance in weapon power * Ability to scale buildings and breach windows whilst hanging upside down on a rope * The very nature of the game creates unpredictability * Good map design and variety * 5 vs 5 is actually a good amount of players * Simple and easy to understand menu system * Upgrade system is easy to work * When in a game the servers are stable * You can adjust the graphics to your hearts content * Good playability with a keyboard or controller.Cons: Hit detection is very hit and miss at time of writing this review with some shots not counting even when you get a headshot * Riot shield offers too much protection in my opinion * Higher difficulty settings in terrorist hunt are insanely difficult * You can’t play as the terrorists in Terrorist Hunt * Can't pick up weapons on the floor * Earning renown takes a long time unless you have a decent team * Shotguns are completely useless beyond a few metres * Not a game to play with strangers as you need teamwork and people you can trust * Game can time out while searching for a lobby meaning you have to quit the game and start again * No storyline or campaign, it’s literally just multiplayer against other players or bots.Tips: If you buy and play the game before 14th December then you also get Rainbow Six Vegas 2 completely free to download via Uplay.System recommendations: Quad core CPU or better * 8GB of memory * Minimum 2GB of Graphics memory, ideally GTX960 or R9 285 or aboveVerdict: If you want the ultimate tactical team based shooter then this is it! There are issues but if you value strategy and people working together then you will find the suspense in this game surreal. 5 vs 5 works well and i like the fact you can also earn renown in terrorist hunt which is probably best if you want to quickly unlock attachments. I do question the price, i certainly wouldn’t pay more than £30 for this given the lack of variety.Recommended, just don't pay more than £30!

Rainbow Six Siege is a triumphant return for the series.”Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege is a new take on the classic squad-based, highly tactical shooter series from Ubisoft. You are part of a squad made up of the world’s best special-ops soldiers. A new, borderless threat has emerged, prompting the re-formation of this unit, and your task is to engage and neutralise this threat. This is the main premise of the game’s story, but as ever there are a number of different ways to play, from the classic Terrorist Hunt mode to various head-to-head multiplayer missions. Here is what I thought of it.The game is set out into three main sections; Multiplayer, Terrorist Hunt and Situations. These are played across a variety of ten maps using twenty specialist Operators, each with their own unique abilities and roles in the team. The Operators themselves play a big role in the game and how you play it. These are set out into Attackers and Defenders, and naturally which one you use depends on which side of a match you are on. Choosing an Operator that suits your play style is important, and understanding how they will fit into a team alongside the others is perhaps just as key to winning a match. Fortunately, with such a variety to choose from it is not hard to find someone who suits your needs.Every operator has been carefully put together using input from real-life professionals, meaning that the way that they behave is informed and realistic. This comes across in the carefully constructed gameplay of Siege as well. Everything from the way that characters move, communicate and hold themselves to the mechanics of aiming, shooting and reacting to the goings on around them appears spot on and heavily supports the immersion of the game. Alongside the realistic damage to the environment and the effects that the destruction has on the map as a whole means that when you play the game, you feel like you are there. It seems like the developers thought of everything when it came down to creating a realistic spec-ops experience. To prepare you for the action you will experience in the field, you can play through the game’s story-based Situations, which are essentially tutorials and challenges to help you learn the ropes and the more complex elements of the game. Modelled around real-life training scenarios with attention paid to what you are training for, Siege gives its tutorial missions purpose and context. Whilst the story is not one of incredible depth, it applies background to the rest of the game which is important in keeping the player interested and focussed. Whilst it is not the best written story of the year then, it serves its purpose well.Situations are certainly not the main draw of the game, which falls to the other two game modes. Taking multiplayer into consideration first, there are three variants to be played here; Secure Area, Bomb and Hostage. The first two of these are quite similar, involving one team attempting to capture or destroy a target location whilst the opposing team defends it. There is certainly an even chance for both teams winning the game, and it largely comes down to who has the best squad dynamic as to who becomes the victor. Hostage is a little more technical, with one team trying to keep hold of a hostage whilst the other team attempts to rescue them. Neither team can afford for the hostage to die, which changes up the nature of play drastically. Whilst the objective side of Secure Area and Bomb can largely be ignored in favour of wiping out the enemy team, doing this is a much more precise objective to achieve in Hostage mode due to the potential collateral. This makes Hostage arguably the most interesting game variant of the three. The main problem with Multiplayer in Rainbow Six Siege is that many players do not communicate. If your team will not talk to you and the other team are chatting away, you are at a very distinct disadvantage in planning your attack or defence strategy. Unfortunately this is not a side of the game that the developers can help, and it is largely down to the players to make the experience what it was intended to be in this way. What the developers can fix however is the ongoing server issues the game is facing, with difficulties getting into matches still being an issue for some even after this being identified as a key issue during the beta period.Terrorist Hunt is the final way to play Siege, and it is a far greater tactical experience than it has ever been before. The premise of this mode is to clear out a predetermined number of enemies on the map before they can take out you and your squad. This is not as simple as camping and shooting however, with some enemies being suicide bombers who will rush to take out the unsuspecting shooter. Others carry shields or move as groups, meaning the challenge is persistent and difficult. On top of these known details, there are other elements which come into play. Terrorist Hunt takes on board the multiplayer game mode variants and utilises them to create fuller experiences. This mode also utilises the different maps and time of day to create a great number of variable for your squad to consider before going in. The way the enemy fortifies itself and behaves also varies, and the different difficulty settings which go up as far as “Realistic” ensure that you can always find yourself a challenge. In short, Terrorist Hunt has been perfected for Siege, and is certainly a prime example of why this is a shooter worth owning.Rainbow Six Siege is a triumphant return for the series. It has a wealth of gameplay experiences to offer, with dynamics in a shooter that have never been seen before. Gameplay is awe inspiring, and both the audio and visual factors of the game have been designed down to a tee. The developers have given it their all to make an all-round superb tactical shooter experience. There is room for perfecting some elements however. The multiplayer game mode objectives are easily ignored in favour of a shoot out. There is also little to encourage players to communicate other than the implication it will help, which might help push the multiplayer experience along. Most of all, the persisting server issues still need some work to encourage gamers that the game is not only great to play, but ready for them to do so. Fix these elements of the game, and you are looking at one of the best squad-based shooters on the market. The Good:20 informed, uniquely-built and perfected Operators to choose from.A solid variety of 10 different maps to play across, both at day and night.Immersive realism in operators, maps, effects and gameplay mechanics.Situations built around back story help teach you the ropes and more technical elements of the game well.Multiplayer is a highly tactical and ever changing experience across all three of its game modes. The Hostage multiplayer variant creates a unique tactical shooter challenge.Terrorist Hunt has been perfected for this Rainbow Six game with every aspect of the game mode having been considered and carefully built. The Bad:It is easy to ignore multiplayer objectives in favour of shooting the other team. Many gamers playing the multiplayer side of the game do not communicate, leaving others at a disadvantage and lessening the immersion. Some persisting server issues are losing some would-be players of Siege.

I waited a while to get involved in Rainbow Six Seige due to the number of negative reviews. I love shooters but don't always want to get sucked in to the multiplayer side of things. I have been an avid gamer for 30 years but work commitments mean I can't spend all day every day playing games so I often get frustrated trying to compete on an even playing field with those who do play all day and who've levelled up so much that their loadout gives them an immediate advantage over casual players. Multiplayer is therefore not the first choice for me.On that note, if you love the idea of Seige but are also put off by reports of it being online-only apart from the 10 initial situational training missions, here's a thought for you - you CAN play solo against bots (up to 22 of the blighters) on every map in the Terrorist Hunt mode. Yes you have to have an Internet connection to play on that mode, BUT you are not competing with other players and you don't need comma to succeed.I am absolutely loving the solo/lone-wolf mode. You are sometimes asked to rescue a hostage, defuse a bomb or simply eliminate terrorists by infiltrating a building or complex and use your guns, tools and wits to achieve your objective. The bots on solo mode provide a decent challenge even on normal difficulty and good luck if you dare to try realistic. There are 10 maps included in the day one release and every time you play the hostage/bomb etc is placed somewhere random on the map so each approach needs to be thought through afresh regardless of you having played on the map before. I'd argue that this is no different to playing COD live where you repeat the same old maps time after time.So far I have played over 10 hours on this game on solo mode and I've not even scratched the surface of unlocking available character classes and upgrades. I could easily see me getting 40-50 hours of absolute pleasure from this game in solo mode without even trying multiplayer.I've read that multiplayer is where the game truly shines, if that's true it must be truly amazing (although I am concerned about reports of idiots on-line who wreck games and the need to communicate with your team to stand a realistic chance of winning) as playing solo has already rewarded me with one of the best shooter experiences for years - albeit I prefer realistic action and stealthy mature approaches to pinging around on jet packs any day.Be aware though that you do need an Internet connection to play solo, which does seem a bit daft but I'm guessing that most people with a PS4 will have a connection but may not enjoy multiplayer in the traditional sense. The graphics are perfectly acceptable, the sound is fantastic, especially when wearing headphones which I don't normally do for games but in this case hearing footsteps of enemies above, below, left or right and hearing doors being breached to one side or someone stepping on broken glass really ramps up the tension and immerses you into the game even further. For a different approach to shooters, I love Seige for being grown up, stealthy, realistic, very challenging and often intense. I'm glad I bought it and am delighted that if you are a single player fan, even though there is no campaign (which is a great shame), you CAN still get loads of hours out of this title playing solo as long as you have an Internet connection. My view - brilliant!(No this is not a paid-for review, and no please don't send me a rant just because you don't share my personal view. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and this is simply mine based on decades on gaming experience. Thank you)UPDATE 20/12/15: Now well over 20 hours in and still going strong with solo play against the bots in Terrorist Hunt with no sign of the game becoming boring or too familiar. Interestingly I have now also had a good few games of Terrorist Hunt Multiplayer. Once again those who prefer solo play may like to know that in that mode you play alongside 4 other team mates but you are still fighting against the bots towards a common objective. I have found that, although I invested in a headset with a mic for comms, most players don't use any comms and things generally work out just fine. There is enough on-screen visual identifiers to ensure that you always know what's going on regardless of there being no chat between players and I have found that the vast majority of players in this mode really try to work as a team. The action in multiplayer Terrorist Hunt is excellent. It's still quite stealthy but it's faster and moving through a house as a team, some on different floors but moving forward together, is excellent. The sound of rapid gun-fire as one of your mates engages an enemy somewhere near you never fails to excite and you know that there will be more nearby waiting to ambush you.I have also spent a couple of hours on Multiplayer 5x5 itself. I have mixed feelings on this mode despite it supposedly being the biggest aspect of the game. My experience has been hit and miss and my enjoyment of the mode is really influenced by the people whom I'm thrown in with. I've had some great matches, but I've also has the misfortune of playing alongside some real prats who clearly don't have a clue about social play or strategy.I'm still very pleased with the game and for what it's worth I will keep trying multiplayer from time to time, but for me the real buzz comes from the solo play or multiplayer Terrorist Hunt which are both excellent and well worth your investment in my opinion. Happy breaching!

Whether you are playing on console or PC, it doesn’t matter because the volume of first-person shooters are crowded, and are getting tiresome as the same formula is used over and over. Step in Rainbow Six Siege. Developed by Ubisoft Montreal using the AnviNext engine, Rainbow Six Siege brings something totally different to the over-crowded genre especially in the console market. Using the same template as PC’s Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, posting players on 5v5 basis with only one life per round. But comparing the two games is justifiably unfair because there are some major and minor differences between the two games. For starters, CS:GO maps are usually based outside and not inside with of course, some exceptions like Inferno and Nuke. Whereas, Rainbow Six Siege has a healthy balance between inside and outside environments. However, the major difference is, defenders (i.e. terrorists) on Rainbow Six Siege are penalised for roaming outside by giving the enemies a real time location of their position, making it easier for the enemy to kill you sneakily and without notice. Another major difference between the two games is the ability on Rainbow Six Siege to either L3 or R3 (on PS4) to look around corners while carefully reaching your target location. You obviously don’t get the same feature on Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.Enough with the comparisons, and let’s move onto what content is available on the game. From launch back in December 2015, 11 maps were originally available to the player base. However, the developers and Ubisoft decided to add maps free-of-charge when new characters DLC packs are released to avoid the player base fracturing. This seems to be a trend within the industry with more and more games releasing like this way. And long may it continue. There are in total, three modes to choose from, including: Situations, Multiplayer, and Terrorist Hunt. Before the game’s release last year, I was initially disappointed to hear no story mode would be in the game. Am I still disappointed after nearly a year? A little bit. I have put nearly 70 hours in the multiplayer so far while neglecting other games (sadly!) because I enjoy the game that much.Situations is simply a tutorial, guiding players through basics like using grenades and for veteran gamers like myself, is painfully condescending to complete. There are 11 situations in total, and completing the first couple is compulsory to have full access to the multiplayer. Sigh.Multiplayer contains three modes: Hostage, Bomb, and Secure Area which are like maps in the sense that there are randomly assigned and not chosen democratically by the players. Hostage is simply collecting the hostage safely from the defenders without killing the hostage. Bomb and Secure Area are subtly different. With Bomb, you have to use the defuser assigned to one player and find the bomb. Once your team locates the bomb, you head to the location and kill any enemies that are in your way and plant the defuser near the bomb. Once planted, the enemies that decided to camp around the map have limited to kill their opponents and prevent the defuser defusing the bomb. Whereas Secure Area is where the attackers also have to locate the bomb but instead of planting a defuser, you have to stay within the bomb radius without the defenders surrounding the area. Again, there is limited time for the camping defenders to prevent the attackers from winning.Lastly, Terrorist Hunt involves upon to five players and can also be played solo. The mode pits you as either attackers or defenders against the AI through wave attacks. I forgot to mention this in the situation section which also applies with Terrorist Hunt. The frame rate, time to time, takes a massive hit probably to support the AI enemies which is frustrating and sometimes unbearable. I was hoping Ubisoft would figure out a solution and patch it immediately. However, the problem continues to this day. Perhaps, there is no solution?Rainbow Six Siege is unique especially in the console market, for gamers who want a challenging tactical first person shooter. For PC gamers, there are many differences between Rainbow Siege Six and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive including the differences I’ve mentioned above, but also, the ability to blow up wooden doors, walls, floors, and some other specific materials to bring a competitive edge to make a justifiable and satisfying purchase. Rainbow Six Siege creates nail biting situations, making gamers jump out of their chair either with excitement or disappointment, with joy or anger. Is there any negatives? Yes, and I don’t expect perfect games especially with technically enlarged game worlds, we haven’t seen in the past. Sometimes in multiplayer, annoyances arise when I am shooting a player first, but die first. Maybe the hitbox is occasionally bad. Perhaps bad internet connection? Or I am awful and inconsistent at playing the game.Definitely, a well worth investment if you are interested in the first-person shooter genre, and are looking for something different to play rather than Call of Duty ever year.

First and foremost you need to be aware that this is an online Multiplayer FPS - it is made with the intention of online co-op play as a team of 5, against either another 5-player team, or (in the case of Terrorist Hunt mode), non-player bots.If you're familiar with Rainbow Six (either the book or the previous games), you will know that the general premise is that you are part of a counterterrorist unit, made up of operators from various special forces and tactical police units from around the world. Each operator has their own talent / gadget. The point of the game is for a team of 5 to storm a building, and eithera) complete an objective (such as defuse a bomb, or rescue a hostage), orb)wipe out the other teamThe other team are trying to stop you, obviously. In the 45 seconds before the round starts, defenders can fortify by putting up barricades, barbed wire, and other defensive gadgets - meanwhile attackers can send in wheeled remote camera drones to try and get an idea of who and what is where. The game is basically a hardcore, last-man standing, team deathmatch. In other words, once killed, you are dead for the remainder of the round and cannot respawn (although you can watch from a surviving team-mate's point of view, or from the CCTV cameras). Friendly fire cannot be disabled, and reckless offenders of that are not popular. Weapon damage feels higher than the average FPS, and firefights tend to be quickly lethal; though if you manage to escape death to within your last gasp, you are immobilised and bleeding out, and can be revived by a teammate (if they make it to you in time).Rounds are over in a matter of minutes - but this is not run-and-gun. Running gung-ho into the enemy will likely result in the end of the round for you. Emphasis now is on stealth, tactics, and teamwork, and it's probably fair to say that a team of 5 players who are communicating effectively on headsets will generally be at an advantage over 5 individual players. Personally, I find it more exciting knowing that you have "one life", and have to play with more care. Many novice players may get frustrated if they find themselves early "observers" round after round (although you still get a points incentive for sticking around - and you can help your team out). There are some occasional gameplay bugs, such as getting stuck on certain objects or the lips of rooftops (a workaround is to go prone or rappel back). Matchmaking is a lot more reliable than it was in the Beta, although you still get the rare occasion where it seems to take a while for that last player to join (maybe 5% of the time, if that). Hopefully these minor bugs will get fixed quickly. There is no single player story/campaign mode, or offline multiplayer - this is focussed on online play. Many are not happy about this; but it has always been the intention of this title. There is a single-player mode called "Situations", which is ten mini-missions, with a "3 star objectives" format, but while this serves as a reasonable introduction to some of the controls and skills, there is not much longevity in it to consider it much more than a tutorial. You can also play "Terrorist Hunt" in a single player mode.Quick tip for anyone who already has the game and have found the control a tad wayward: try changing the controller settings - the default "dead zone" delay really threw me (it felt completely different even to the Beta released just a few weeks ago). Reduce it to minimum and you might find it better, I certainly have.Altogether, I think this is a brilliant FPS game, but it's completely different from both COD and Battlefield - it's all close quarters, tactical, and hardcore. It's not perfect - there are things that could have been done better.Joining friends is more laborious than it should be; you can't join someone who's already in a match, even if their team isn't full. There's not much in the way of weapon modifications, and what there is can't be fitted/removed other than from the main menu.Another significant downside is that there is not a huge amount of variety to gameplay - even though no two rounds will play out the same, it still boils down to a pretty simple formula, and you do get a sense of repetition. I do wonder if there are more game modes to come; there are pretty large areas of each map having so much detail paid to design, yet completely unused (like the tunnel under the bank, for example) - it would be great if future expansion would maybe change the fight dynamic and use some of these (mostly outdoor) areas.Certainly some good news is that expansion DLC over the next year, including new maps and operators, are to be available to everyone. In other words, you do NOT need the Season Pass (or to pay) for expansions.Overall, despite a little repetition, this is a really addictive and fun game. If you don't want to play multiplayer; simply do not get this game. And you may spend a significant proportion observing while you find your feet - so if you don't consider yourself to be the most patient of players, it may not be for you.

When I first played this game with the beta, I didn't know what to expect with it as the beta stage doesn't always accurately predict what the game itself will be like. After launch, however, it became "clear" in the bias opinion of someone who's used to fast-paced games like CoD (even though I retain the last good one was Black Ops 1 and haven't touched one since) and Battlefield. This game is not like most games. It's tactical and it's usually slow paced, but generally you (and your team) depict the pace of the game. It definitely takes practice if you're not used to it, but it's definitely worth it.The game is only Multiplayer and there are two games modes: Terrorist Hunt; Multilayer.Terrorist Hunt is the equivalent of survival.A [maximum] team of 5 are pit against NPCs (with varying difficulty from Normal, Hard and Realistic) to either defuse a bomb, rescue a hostage, plainly clear the area or protect a hostage. There is also the option to go solo with the lone wolf option which will allow you to really test yourself. Terrorist Hunt is pretty fun if you don't want to face other players. It's the game mode I played for the first month or so of the game but eventually got bored of it.Multiplayer breaks up into Ranked and Causal, like most multiplayer games these days. There are three game modes within multiplayer which are Secure Area, Disarm Bomb and Hostage but they're all ultimately TDM with alternative ways of winning the round if you can't get the kills: Secure Area being get into the designated area and secure it for a limited amount of time (as an attacker) with no defenders within it; Disarm Bomb is pretty much self explanatory; Hostage which is simply rescue the hostage. The game is a very tactical game and sound is a great advantage, so having a good headset or audio setup is a huge benefit but not essential. There is no definitive way to play, you can take your time (within the time limit - ironic) or you can just rush it. It's entirely up to you. It helps to communicate with your team, it's a huge bonus in this game as it is a very team-based game. You went get far trying to be a one man army.Learning the maps is in itself, like most games, its own challenge. Finding places to hide, places to shoot through or break through. Just basically searching the environment and using it to gain the tactical advantage. You may find people in places you never expected, catching you off guard but also teaching you a new spot. It's exciting, tense and incredibly innovative. There are a number of operators you get as standard, and extras being added on as additional (purchasable) extras - don't worry, you can use the in-game currency as well as real money to get them. Each operator has its own unique ability which decides how you will ultimately play the game, as well as its own weapons and gadgets which influence it just as much. Some operators will be viewed incredibly valuable and can be inter-dependable (like how a Thermite often depends on a Thatcher). This can really influence your team lineup and how you approach the game.It can be fun to play with your friends as well as alone, but it's great to develop a team and try to tackle the ranked system (which is still in beta). Try different lineups and find out which operators work best for you. There are moments you'll be screaming down the mic, in both cebration or anger. There are moments you'll be caught off guard and applauding yourself for catching someone else off guard. Fast paced, slow paced, it's entirely up to you. The rounds are ultimately what you make of them. There is a sort of "offline" mode called "Situations" whereby you're put into situations with specific operators to learn and master their abilities. However, I guarantee you won't spend much time on it at all.My initial impressions of this game weren't too hyped or impressed - it was just a other game to me - however, after actually playing it more and more, it's definitely a unique game in its own right. It's fun, it's frustrating and just all out great. The E-Sports is also quite fun to watch.I'm not one to usually buy DLCs, but I've bought both season passes for this game (year 1 & 2). I look forward to seeing what Ubisoft have planned for 2017 with this amazing game.

Rainbow Six Siege is ALL ABOUT COMPETITIVE MULTIPLAYER and it facilitates some of the most exciting and strategically deep PvP gunfights in recent games. Ideally it is played in a party of 5 friends with headsets since communication makes all the difference. It is slow, but intense action, where every teammate is vital to achieving the objective.Siege is HARDLY A SEQUEL to previous Rainbow Six games. It's abandoned its story campaign entirely. NPCs only exist in the Terrorist Hunt mode which matches you with other players against bigger groups of hostiles. The absence of local coop (split screen) for this mode is another step away from the series' legacy. There is also no 3rd person view and no cover system here. All gameplay features aim to optimize fair and engaging multiplayer matches. The game VISUALS ARE GREAT without compromising the framerate. Siege has the best, most accurate weapon models I have seen. The character designs are fantastic, though they look a lot better in the menus than in actual gameplay. You rarely get a chance to examine other players up-close, but still it can be a little disappointing.SOUNDS IS A BIG PART OF THE GAME. You would want a headset for this one. All footsteps, gunfire, equipment items, breakable objects and voices are so specific and recognizable that listening is often more important than observing. The sounds are excellent and the music is good and unobtrusive, borrowing elements from Blacklist’s score. All DLC IS FREE. It’s a very good move on Ubi’s side that all additional content is available to all players at no extra cost. Typically there are 2 new characters and a new map added with each of the 4 planned DLCs. Season pass holders do get one week early access to them, and spend no ingame currency to unlock the new operators, but in no way is a season pass required for any part of the experience – purchasing one is more of support gesture to the game.Game ECONOMY IS SURPRISINGLY FLAT. All operators and weapon attachments are easily unlocked early on by new players. Customization is all that’s left to earn and spend for. Weapon skin, slightly different head gear, weapon charms – not very rewarding stuff, but at least it is something to keep you playing and getting Renown points. This unimportant currency also affects the value of daily challenges. In its first months the game did suffer some matchmaking and server ISSUES. Now that they are mostly overcome its worst and inevitable problem is impatient gameplay. In recent weeks the matches are filled players that would rush into a direct gunfight to get frags or die trying, which then causes them to leave rather than wait for the next round. Run and gun players have a very negative impact as they negate the most valuable elements of the game - strategy and suspense. Uneven teams playing (sometimes 1v5) for the rest of the match is an often sight.RAINBOW SIX SIEGE VERY ENJOYABLE if you have the right expectation. It is not a game packed with content nor ticking all the boxes. It’s focused on a specific experience. Siege gives you the opportunity to play from your couch and feel like you are in a PvP 5v5 FPS tournament – outsmarting the opposition is that important, and winning feels that much better.Read full review...

Rainbow Six Siege is one of my favourite shooters I've played in years, picking up from the foundations of great games like Counterstrike and Socom, to deliver pulsating tactical combat match after match. Now while I'm a fan of Battlefield, Call of Duty and Halo - Each iteration of those franchises tends to be relatively similar to the previous one. Siege is something new.At the core of this is a dedication to one of video games' long lost arts: consequence. Played in rounds, Siege requires you to think before you act as dying will leave you sat around watching everyone else for minutes on end, and leave your team one man short to finish the job.It can't be stated enough how much round-based shooters add to the overall gameplay experience, even if it leaves the game with a steep initial learning curve. Indeed, your fist hour or two of Siege will act as a rough training exercise as you repeatedly get slaughtered by the many 'tricks of the trade' that the online community have mastered. Stick with it though and the satisfaction of outsmarting your opponents will become an addictive impulse.I'm pretty disappointed to have seen this game receive mediocre reviews from some of the big sites and I want to squash their main criticisms because I feel they do the game a great disservice. The biggest criticism of which has been the lack of content and/or progression system. Now whilst I found this year's Battlefront a chore for those reasons, I wholeheartedly feel like R6 is great value. Whilst it's true that there's no story mode of sorts and a lack of modes overall compared to other shooters, the variety of gameplay found online is rich enough to keep you engaged for the foreseeable future. It also feels unfair to criticise this game for not having pointless extra modes when the core aspect of it is done so well - like criticising Zelda for only having one "mode". This game doesn't need superfluous filler and it KNOWS IT.Each of the game's 20 characters has unique skills and weapons that keep your tactics fresh, forcing you to attack or defend in different styles. These are unlocked somewhat slowly, but I feel this forces you to spend time with each one and therefore gain a greater overall understanding of the whole roster. The game HAS suffered some major connectivity issues over the xmas period, apparently due to a large wave of new players. This is a big problem, but hopefully something that will be fixed - and something I'm willing to stick through because I love the game so much (and I'm impatient as hell).Siege needs to be praised. We live in an age where everyone wants to copy the Call of Duty formula, everyone wants to milk the sequels of established franchises because they are low-risk. Siege is a great game that provides something that you can't get anywhere else on consoles right now. It is tough, tense, nuanced and balanced. It can be frustrating at times, but every death is a lesson that teaches you to be a better player - and becoming truly great at this game is a tangible reward in it's own right. We need more developers to make games like this, so please please support it!

Offline/soloThere is NO campaign in this game. They did not advertise the game as having one, to my knowledge, so I don't know why everyone is complaining a great deal on this aspect for. It is very disappointing, yes, but people clearly didn't look in to the game and just bought it blind. There are 10 (maybe 11) situations that you can play by yourself. These are fun to play however they are classed more as tutorials to the game. Unfortunately you are unable to play with anyone, not sure why this is, but then again each situation would be completed rather quickly if you could.Terrorist hunt is available both solo and multiplayer. Here you can select from a total of 10 attacking operators (if you have bought them with the in game currency, renown), 2 from each special force, that have preset weapons and equipment (slight customisation choice). The customisation is pretty terrible of these classes. Some operators have a choice of 3 weapons, most 2, then 1 that I can think of that has 1 weapon. Weapons available are typically found in that country. Example the ak12 for Russia. On each gun you can attach, sights, grips, a laser, barrels and a camouflage. The equipment will vary on each, dependant on class. This could be smoke, breaking charges, stun, and I think more but can't remember but not many more. This is ignoring the operators specialities such as thermite breaching charges or EMP grenades etc. This is pretty much the customisation available which really doesn't amount to much. This is also the case for defending classes available which carries through to online. Also worth pointing out that terrorist hunt is available for 5 people online.MultiplayerThis is the main area of the game. There are a number of maps available to play, 11 I have read, that offer different objectives to complete. One objective is to secure the area, another is to enter and rescue a hostage by taking them to an evacuation point and another game mode is to find the bombs and plant a defuser laptop to stop any incoming signals. One team of 5 will attack while the other team of 5 defend. The customisation is exactly the same as terrorist hunt and the defenders also have a choice of 10 operators each with a specific skill set. Out of the 10 choices only one can be selected for the round. This means that you can not have two operators of the exact same skill, which makes sense but ultimately very annoying. Recruits are available to use however you can not customise the guns, just select different ones. For me personally I find this game very enjoyable to play, especially with friends, as you have to be very tactical and precise. It is not a game you can run round all guns blazing. I think there is a lot that can be done to make this a better game such as improved customisation and an added campaign, but as it currently stands I think people will find it very repetitive and get bored in the around 3 months time. I would recommend if you enjoy playing online competitively but first watch a few videos on YouTube.

Ok, this game doesn't have a campaign. A lot of people are giving this game one-star reviews for this reason, despite the fact that the game was always advertised as a multi-player experience; do people buy games without reading anything about them now? There is an offline mode called Terrorist Hunt, but this is nothing spectacular. To put it simply, if you're looking for a single-player FPS, this isn't for you. But, if you're looking for an online shooter that is both accessible, yet more competitive than, say, Call of Duty or Star Wars Battlefront, this is absolutely a must-buy.The games 'operators' are first split up into 5 different units, the SAS, GIGN, GSG 9, FBI and Spetsnatz, and split up again into two groups, defensive and offensive. Each operator has unique abilities/gadgets and weapons, and they all feel very different from each other, offering a number of diverse strategies and team combinations. The combat is incredibly satisfying, with all the guns sounding and feeling authentic. This isn't your typical 'gung-ho' fps; footsteps when running are loud and make you a target, not checking corners can and will get you killed and the lack of a minimap means environmental awareness and effective communication with your team are crucial to finding out where your enemies are.Siege's main game mode pits 5 attackers against 5 defenders. For the attackers, the first stage of the round involves piloting small, wheeled drones with cameras, which can be used to tag the objective and any enemies. For the defenders, there is a short period of time to set up defences like barricades and barbed wire, and to try to destroy the attacker's drones (one bullet will do the job) before they can get any useful intel. After this, the full round begins, and the attackers must try to get into the building and disarm the bomb/rescue the hostage. The round ends when the attackers have done this or eliminated all of the enemy team, or when the defenders prevent the attackers from completing their objective within the time limit or eliminate the whole team. When you get hit with enough damage, you go down. You can be revived in this state by a team-mate, but a single bullet will kill you, and a head shot means instant death. When you die, you're dead for the whole round, but can help your team-mates by using cameras to mark enemies. This game mode is a lot of fun, leading to some incredibly tense moments, like when you're the last person on your team against a full enemy team and have to try to win on your own (difficult, but not impossible). Having a group of friends with microphones is a big help in this game, but not a necessity, as there is a lot of natural cooperation without needing to talk to each other, helped by a marker system where you can point out certain things to all your team mates. So while I understand it might not be everyone's cup of tea, this is game is excellent at what it does, and provides some of the most rewarding, entertaining gameplay I've had in years.

Brilliant & refreshing shooter!Let me begin by saying that I can't remember the last time I purchased a Rainbow Six game, and hadn't really been all that bothered about the Tom Clancy series before buying this game. I don't know if I will consider buying older/other Tom Clancy games after buying Siege BUT... This game was a "game changer" for me. I have been an avid COD fan since MW2 and I never really got into other shooters like Battlefield and even star wars battlefront I didn't particularly love. I play Black Ops 3 a lot and really enjoy it so when I saw this I was a little skeptical to say the least....So, why the 4 stars??Well, considering the fact there is no campaign I was obviously reluctant to buy it,But the "situations" mode is EPIC. There are 11 missions where you get to know the ins and the outs of the game, but its way more than that, I love these so called missions. They are very similar to the extra missions on MW2 and the way the game runs is just amazing, The online gameplay is excellent. It's so refreshing to play this game after playing call of duty for so long and getting kind of bored of it after MW3 came out.The mechanics of this game are unlike other games and the hype surrounding this game is amazing because there's nothing better than a game "everyone is talking about" or that "buzz" that everyone gets with cod, except with a different game! I have been wanting to enjoy a FPS game for a long time that isn't cod and this is DEFINITELY it.The almost "search and destroy" type game mode put me off at first because I hate search and destroy on call of duty...but this is so much more than that, It's actually incredibly fun and nerve wracking at the same time. Getting that game winning kill on siege just feels that much sweeter after carefully planning out your defense/attack.I would happily play the situation maps over and over again (except one or two). Some of them are really fun,The terrorist hunt mode is amazing because you can play online or vs bots (which sounds terrible to most people and it did to me at first) but its a bit like a campaign in the sense that you will be playing vs bots your way, and having some great fun in doing so.Personally I like to flank the maps on here because there is no right or wrong way to attack/defend on this game. all round i would definitely give this game a 4/5 or a 9/10 overall. It's not up there with the best of the best of the best but it is one of the best games iv'e played recently. I'd probably give this as good a rating as Black Ops 3 yet they are totally different games.

Pre-purchase thoughts:When I originally saw this game advertised I debated whether it would be a quality game that could be enjoyed for weeks/months rather than hours or days (like most games now). After deciding to have a more in depth look I discovered it was priced reasonable in comparison to other games. This was probably the deciding factor.First thoughts of product:When I first recieved the product, the case was neat and everything looked good, disk was secure and absolutely no damage to any parts.Thoughts on gameplay:When installed and starting up I chose to go into a "situation" first and this proved very helpful as the mechanics of the player were substantially different to those of "Call of duty" but were slightly similar to that of "Battlefield" games but still very unique. As I have never played any Tom Clancy games before the movement felt slow and lethargic but this feeling was short lived. Why you should/should not purchase this game:Pros:This game requires the full attention of someone that can think logically whilst enjoying themselves which makes it not far from perfect for those who are strategy enthusiasts. For the high obtain lovers there is a real contrast between that of explosive quick play and lengthened manhunt type situations. With only one life you can chose to use it carefully and serve the whole team reaping the benefits of the individual "Operator". Otherwise you have the choice go running in to a heavily armed room full of potential death traps and highly trained operators (which sometimes proves to be explicitly fun).Cons:With six siege the premise of only one life may turn some noses up which I can relate to. In some games you may find yourself crawling through the dimly lit corridors for two and a half minutes to then be shot by a defender wielding a semi auto shotgun, this is when you question the effort and reasoning behind the move. To some the amount of attention this game requires may be another turning point as it is not always enjoyable.Overview:In my opinion this game is worth the money. You may not get a campaign but you get the extreme adrenalin and enjoyment out of this as much as you would any other call of duty or batt lied game.

This is an absolute belter of a game. I loved Vegas back in the day but got really excited about this game when I saw the first few videos Ubisoft posted showing off the gameplay, scenarios, etc. I managed to talk my better half into buying it me for Christmas (she's really regretting this now as I don't talk to her any more) and I have not really stopped playing it since. The tension created in multiplayer mode is unbelievable at times, particularly when you're the last man standing and still have the objective to achieve and numerous enemy team members to despatch/avoid. And multiplayer mode is what makes this game so awesome. The variety in the maps and operators give the game reasonable longevity on their own,but when you also factor in the different gameplay styles and downright sneakiness of random players into the mix, no two rounds are ever the same. I find myself simultaneously furious when I'm headshot by someone I never even saw and awe-struck by the genius position/angle they got themselves into when I watch the killcam afterwards.Yes, it's a little buggy here and there and occasionally the servers go down, but I only ever tend to wait 40-60 seconds to join a team online.Tips:1. Complete the Situations first - they give you a crash course in both the different types of operators and the maps.2. Upgrade your operators' weapons (sights/grips/silencers/lasers, etc) as soon as you have earned enough renown to do so - it's a big help.3. Get to know each map - you can learn the best entry points, flanking routes, good spots to attack and defend, etc.4. Invest in a headset if you don't already have one - in multiplayer mode, it's almost essential that you can communicate with your team mates to plan strategies and avoid quick and messy deaths.5. If you do get picked off early in a round, watch the other team members and how they go about their business - you can learn a lot of tips and techniques this way.Buy this game - you will not regret it (but your other half might).

Firstly I would like to express that I am thoroughly enjoying this game and it has exceeded my expectations by miles! But there are also some points that I would like to address which I feel could make the game even stronger.Let me first start by saying that 'Rainbow Six Siege' is honestly one of the best multiplayer gaming experiences that I have ever had. Unlike most first person shooters, you have to plan, prepare and exercise patience in order to succeed and take down your enemy. There is no 'correct' way to play this game as every match you play is different and requires a different strategy. Teamwork is paramount and selecting the right team to complement each other is extremely important. The maps are all very detailed and there are multiple different places that the objective can spawn so you need to plan your entry accordingly. There are a multitude of weapons and equipment to choose from so you can play around and see what suits you best.Although there is single player content it is very limited and can become stale after a while. The situations are a great way to introduce the different tactics and mechanics of the game but in reality these are only training you for the multiplayer of the game and once completed there is no real replay value in them. And here comes my only problem with the game - Not enough single player content!Pros:- Addictive multiplayer experience- Multiple different ways to play the game- Great graphics- Promotes teamwork between players- Can choose from Casual or Ranked game play- Maps are very detailed- Situations act as a great tutorialCons:- Not enough single player content- Lobbies can sometimes be hard to join- Needs some more game modesOverall I would like to finish saying that the game is a must have experience for people who enjoy multiplayer games and would make a great addition to anybodies game collection but for those who are only interested in single player content I would have to suggest giving this one a miss.
