FIFA 18 encapsulates everything I've ever wanted from a football game, even if I didn't always realise it.I haven't bought an instalment in the FIFA series since 2012, back in the days of Xbox 360. The occasional game around a mates house on 13, 14 etc. etc. was always good fun but they never seemed to change much from my perspective, except for becoming slightly more challenging. Therefore I should note that FIFA 18 will have been my introduction to features previously experienced by FIFA fanatics. Here's my summary:The Good- Career mode is highly addictive with the tension and strategy of transfer decisions and keeping your players happy with play time during the season, making the experience incredibly authentic.- The Journey: Hunter Returns - this is probably the biggest highlight of the game. The story is well-written and captivating, the opportunity to dictate your story through chosen responses is great and the cameos from well-known stars of the game is the cherry on top. I played the first part of the Journey around my mates' house and thought it was good but ended abruptly, Part 2 is lengthy and full of great content.- The game mechanics feel very fluid combined with realistic effects and stadium crowd ambience. There are occasional awkward graphic moments when a plays body positioning is too out of place to get any power behind the ball yet it screams into the top corner. The Bad- Alan Smith's commentary. Sorry Alan, nothing personal but unfortunately your recorded sound bites of commentary which eventually start to repeat are more grating than those of Martin Tyler's. In addition to this, there are so many contradictory moments of commentary; such as when I scored a header with David Luiz, proceeded with the game and five minutes later nearly scored with his head again only for it to go over the bar. What did the computer generate as Alan's comment? 'Yeah, not known for his heading this boy and you can see why there.' He literally scored with his head five minutes ago Alan!- Licensing - I know, I know, FIFA is superior when it comes to licensing and all of the brand aspects they are allowed to feature, but that doesn't stop having to play in the "EA Champions Cup" rather than the UEFA Champions League any less disappointing. A minor issue I grant you but still a shame.- Variety in 'The Journey' - again very minor but I would have wanted more chances to show the personality of Alex Hunter a bit more. There was a point after returning to Europe from America that I felt I was playing a game, then training, then another game, then more training and so on for too long without some nice juicy side plots. I also would have wanted to play with Kim for a few more games but we'll see what the next chapter offers.- Soundtrack - there's a couple of good songs on here and some would say that this is not a fundamental feature of a FIFA game. However, the track lists of games of old were superior to whatFinal wordsIn case you have just bothered to read my thoughts on this video game, thanks for taking the time to read, I hope you consider that 5 minutes well spent. If not, well it's not been a significant chunk of time out of your life, unlike the hours you'll spend hooked to this latest FIFA experience. Oh, and yes, I know I didn't mention anything about Ultimate Team and that's for a very good reason; I don't play it and never really want to. I've wasted enough time on this game without getting drawn into a digital card game involving microtransactions as well. Have fun!

Having being disappointed at Alex Hunter in fifa 17 being only one season im glad your able to continue on in fifa 18 where it ended.Having being loaned out to Norwich was great and then returning to Arsenal to go on and win the F.A. Cup im now happy to continue on getting Alex Hunter more trophies ...The graphics look good and looking forward to some gaming time....Its good to see the original penalties are back as fifa 17 was a complete shambles with the new penalty taking so well done fifa on that. Now i personally play on semi-pro so my comments may be good or bad depending on what level you play as.On semi pro im finding some of the opponents have more intelligents than normal especially when im attacking, some certain defenders are blocking and desperate sliding to stop the ball going into the net if the ball has beaten the keeper....when i say desterate blocking or sliding tackles i mean in the same way Arsenals Tony Adams used to play or that ex Blackburn defender Samba i think his name was, many a times i think ive scored but havent to the excellent CPU defenders. The long through balls are also exciting when i pull it off.I also noticed in the settings you can now switch on Handball (excluding penalties) in the Rules which is interesting, noones been booked yet for it but its a added touch to the game. The home team being booed if theyre being slaughtered is pretty cool....What i want to see in fifa 19.....Would love to see managers getting sacked if they keep losing or players refusing to play for some reason.I havent won a tournament at wembley on fifa 18 yet but id love to see teams walking up them famous steps as they pick up their winning/losing trophies....its what wembleys all about and would give it that little extra bit of real atmosphere.I want to see the medics and their stretchers come on the field especially if its a very serious injury..Id like to see a fair few more teams with alternative kits rather than see old vintage kits that are locked and i think its time fifa introduced a 2nd kit for the keeper as sometimes there is a colour clash. My only 3 faults in the game is .....1. On player mode when in career...the opponents dont seem to attack very well but as soon as you go to team mode the teams become more challenging but thats been the same for a few games now as is no matter what team or league you begin with your always the same statistics on your created player, i normally play left midfield which makes me about 68 overall i think when i choose Arsenal in the premiership but why am i still a 68 overall if i choose to play in League 2? I started playing at Southend United in fifa 17 and was being picked for England when i became about 70-72 overall. I mean come on who ever gets picked to play in the first team for England whilst in League 1 or League 2? Its not realistic. I think if i wanted to play in championship then i should be about a 62 League One i should only be a 58 and maybe a 52-55 if im in League 2.....But saying all that and some new tips for fifa 19 or possibly 20 if any of the fifa makers are reading this...fifa 18 is still a good game and gets 4 stars from me even though theres no croatian or Japanese International teams. I love using croatia so very disappointed they are not included...

FIFA 18 seems to be getting some real mixed reviews here and it’s the ones who are saying it hasn’t changed from FIFA 17 - couldn’t disagree more!In my opinion, the gameplay itself is hugely different and I improved. EA have slowed the gameplay down making it more realistic but the movement and dribbling of players is a noticeable improvement from 17. Also, you have to work hard to score but also to not concede - keeping your shape with players and keeping hold of the ball to be able to advance up the pitch - just like in real life. I have also noticed that I’m able to score from corners, which was for me, was nearly impossible on 17. A new feature in gameplay is the option for a quick sub. This was tried in a previous Fifa but here you either pre-select up to 3 possible subs (Eg Rashford for Martial) and during gameplay once play has stoped to a goal kick etc you can hold the R2/LT to select one of your subs, saving you going into team managerment. A great new feature for me!Graphics are improved too. The detail in individual players are amazing - players appear sweatier on how many minutes they’ve played. The crowd is so much more detailed that previous years and players animations are far more varied.New features in Manager mode include an improved layout, a transfer hub where you place your shortlisted players for a possible transfer, squad hub were you can see all in one place players stats/form/morale/wage/value etc. The biggest thing on Manager Mode are the transfer/wage negotiations cutscenes. These are done through you and the player/Manager with some The Journey style interactions to beat out a good deal for both parties. This is brilliant but I will admit could get a little dull a couple of seasons in although it can be skipped or you can choose to delegate it for someone else to do.The Journey goes into it’s second year and although I’m only 5/6 into it I’m loving it. The cutscenes are great, although graphics could be maybe better, the story it great. I was slightly disappointed with 17’s Journey but already the tasks/story/training are all an improvement. I started afresh but there is the option to carry on from your 17’s Hunter with his stats and club still in place.I’m yet to delve into Online Seasons or FUT yet as there is so much going on with Career and Journey. For me the gameplay is a little slow but adds to the realism of football. Dribbling is improved and players like Bale and Hazard who skip past people in real life actually do on FIFA 18, as it should be. Great improvement overall though on FIFA 17.

Overall this is a very enjoyable game. I haven't played the previous Fifa and most of the criticisms I read appear to be tied back to what the game was like in its previous incarnation. There are a few gripes to be had. The most serious issue for me concerns the higher difficulty levels, which you have to switch to once you've got the hang of everything as you start to chalk up ridiculous levels of goals in a game and need a bit more of a challenge. The trouble is that, instead of increased difficulty simply making the opposition teams play better, more aggressively, or with greater tactical flair etc. (which is what I would like),what is far more noticeable is that the computer actively makes *your* team play worse in ways that are often beyond your control. The likes of Ronaldo and Messi don't have to be technically gifted when they can just run down the middle of the pitch while your defenders run off to the sides, parting like the Red Sea and giving them a tap-in. There is a literal change to feel of the game for a few seconds where you just know there's no way you're stopping their attack, as your players suddnely act like their running through treacle and the opposition knock out 20 passes in quick succession to walk it in. Defenders in the box start losing aerial challenges to stumpy strikers because they just stand there and, as ever, goalkeepers are wildly unpredictable.I also don't think the game really demonstrates the potential of fast-paced players - lumbering defenders seemingly jog happily alongside the fastest wingers who often struggle to pull away. Lastly, there is the problem with tackles/fouls. The level/types of tackling that are permitted in this game are worthy of the filthiest defenders of the 1970's! Your player can be tackled ruthlessly, with the opponent not getting a sniff of the ball and no foul is called. Levels of barging that wouldn't be tolerated on a rugby field are now par for the course, yet if you so much as attempt an actual tackle it will more often than not result in a yellow card. It's a testament to how enjoyable the game is that it is still fun to play in spite of all those irritations. All in all, I'd be happy to forgive most of the issues if they just tweaked the way that harder levels functioned so that my team wasn't transformed into a bunch of gibbering idiots whenever the AI decides it wants a goal!

I've been playing this game since release, so can write an informed review. In all honesty, this isn't my favourite edition of FIFA but it does have some great new features.- FIFA Ultimate TeamClearly this is the most popular game mode and has some great new features. The new Squad Battles mode (offline) allows you to earn great rewards throughout the week against the AI, this alongside the Weekend League are the best ways to earn huge rewards. The cards that were previously known as Legends on Xbox have been converted to Icons and are now available on the PlayStation too.The structure of this game mode remains largely unchanged with the exception of the additional features mentioned above.-The JourneyThe game mode that originally featured on FIFA 17 and brought Alex Hunter into our lives continues in FIFA 18. I won't release any spoilers, but the next stage of his career is as exciting as the first. This offline story mode seems to be more extensive than that in FIFA 17, and there are decisions to be made throughout the story which will change Alex's career path.- GameplayThis is the reason I haven't awarded five stars. In my opinion the gameplay is worse than that in FIFA 17, the reduced AI assistance in defence leads to unrealistic goals whereby strikers glide past defenders with ease to create a one on one situation. There are also two areas of the gameplay that need particular attention in the future; goalkeepers and kick off goals. The goalkeepers are still wooden and are incapable of collecting a ball that slowly rolls by them and out for a corner. They concede some very strange goals and frequently flap at ridiculous shots from long distance. Kick off goals are a known problem in FIFA, and this continues in the latest installment, as defenders seem to switch off at kick off with the attacking team drifting through the entire team.Overall, this is a good game with great features and graphics. The gameplay could definitely improve but is still enjoyable and competitive.

I've played every fifa since 05, and for me it's by far the best. Best graphics, best career mode, best gameplay.Gameplay for me is key. Finally they have made player movement as response as it should be, and this explains the negative feedback. The vastly improved dribbling makes it difficult to defend, but that's how it should be. People saying it makes it unrealistic are wrong. If real footballers could be controlled from birds eye view and play perfect pass after perfect pass then all games would be high scoring! The defending is harder but that's how it should be, defenders in real life are not as agile as attackers. People complaining that the passing is too perfect?Ok well change the setting to semi or manual, the game offers the gamer a variety of settings to suit your needs. Most of the negative reviews are people who dislike change, or dislike being bad at the game. The only real criticism of the game is the difficulty settings. I play on legendary and it's just too easy. I can comfortably win the premier league and champions league every season with liverpool and that should not be a sentence that exists.Other small criticisms include:-the disparity in quality of the best and worst players could still be larger (league 2 players shouldn't control the ball as well as they do)-legendary difficulty is too predictable and all teams play like barcelona (why are west-brom trying to play tiki-taka?)-there should be separate tactics for attacking and defending (I want to play like pep guardiola but its impossible to use his tactics in fifa as pep has a very wide formation in attack. I need my wide players as close to the edge of the pitch as possible to open the space in the middle so I set the team width to 100. However it makes defending impossible as im too open in defense. If i could have seperate tactics for attack/defense then I could set team width when defending to 50)

I will start by saying I am not going to compare this to the other football game available. Both are very good and quite different. However I am more of a FIFA fan having played every version since the original. First and foremost, in the tradition of FIFA, this is one of the 'fun' versions of the game. Pace hasn't been neutered and strength of players does have an impact. Control of the players feels familiar to the last few versions but animations look smoother. Shooting from distance feels better and passing is nice and slick (also opponents are not all tiki-taka like they were in the last version). Defensive play is more challenging but rewarding, I have had a few moments where I have had to clear a goalmouth scramble.Crossing is now a very effective way of scoring goals, perhaps too overpowered but at least now you get numerous 'runners' into the box which feels more realistic.Graphically the game is stunning, I've played on Xbox One and on the 4K PS4 Pro, both look great and undoubtedly this game will be excellent on the Xbox One X when that comes out in November. Players look realistic and there is added 'atmosphere' which is a nice touch, crowds still sing appropriate songs and it all feels very slick. I do not tend to play 'The Journey' so cannot comment. Ultimate Team is still familiar. I play most of my games in career mode though and it is due to this that I have knocked a star off. I find the new interactive negotiations with dialogue wheels to be too slow and breaks up the pacing of the same mode in previous career modes. Also now player sign instantly, none of that waiting on hold until you decide which players to follow through on. For me it is an irritation but maybe in time I will get used to it.Still, this is a fun and very complete FIFA. Well worth buying

Excellent game. Best FIFA ive played. Play on legendary and in the past the defenders would just keep the ball and you wouldnt get a touch for 10mins. Now the opposition actually attacks you and play some good stuff. Ive enjoyed some of the goals ive conceded.Attacking, the movement of your players is better/smarter.Defending, which seems to be everybodys issue, is different. On previous versions defending was a doddle. Id play 38 games on legendary and concede less than 10. On this its definitely harder. It took some prectice to get competent at it. I find you cant just chase the ball you have to cover your man + when he passes follow him not the ball.Your opposition will carry more of a threat than in previous versions but like I say previous versions made it unrealistically easy to defend. This time when your defending you have to focus.Graphics obviously outstanding.Overall a very differrent FIFA to the last few years which have been identical and all had the same problems, mainly the opposition defenders playing keep-ball for 90 mins creating a dull match. If you really liked previous FIFA's Id say play a lot of the demo before buying. If you do buy defending will be your main nemesis but it is so much more enjoyable as an overall package.Outstanding 9/10

FIFA 18 is everything its predisessor was an much more, the game feels smooth and crip with the frostbite engine being used to its full potential most notably in career mode with the addition of the cutscenes which provide a fresh new feel to the game for the most part these are great but after a while do get very repetitive and could use spoken dialogue but it's a nice touch none the less, the addition of squad battles in ultimate team gives casual players a taste of the fut champions style reward system which was absolutely amazing last year and I was pleased to see something similar added to single player. For a £80 price tag I paid on the PlayStation store I feel it was a worth while purchase for the sheer fact I could game share it with my brother on his PS4 therefore making it £40 a piece which isn't so bad. However if you want to get this installment I'll say stear clear until I price reduction as defending is terrible and goalkeepers are absolutely broken. If you are looking to play this for the journey I wouldn't recommend it that much, it's short forgettable and quite frankly a waste of your time as it doesn't allow you true freedom to tailor alex hunters journey

This is my first FIFA for over a year only having previously bought FIFA 17 and sold it almost instantly as I got rid of my original Xbox One, so this probably feels fresher for me than most which may explain my favorable review. As ever, the presentation etc. is brilliant, with the gameplay ironically my biggest gripe (not ideal when discussing a game!). Although crisp and more realistic than PES, the animations are lagging and many player models embarrassing considering how big EA is and how long they have had to fix the problem.Despite all this I will be playing FIFA 18 mostly this year, as unlike PES 2018, FIFA 18 is actually playable online. The green bar is an essential tool for me when playing 1v1 online and the ability to decline a match if someone has shocking internet a deal-breaker. I work 6 days a week and have perhaps an hour to play games during week nights - I don't want to spend 10mins of that finding a match and then when I do to suffer through an additional 20mins of game lag.I will update again in the future, but for now FIFA is back as top dog.

I wasn't a fan of Fifa 17, I have played since the first Ultimate Team was created and am thus a FUT Founder so I was hoping for something different this year. Playing the demo I was very impressed by the pacing of the gameplay and the fluidity of it if you worked the ball well, it felt like a genuine reward scoring a goal, this carried over into the full game. I was having a lot of fun building my team from the ground up, experimenting with different formations that would better serve the style of play I was going for, it was a totally different game to Fifa 17. Then a patch was released to address a lot of complaints from a large number of the players that weren't a fan of the more manual defending mechanics and the game is a lot different now. It's still fun but not as fun as it was pre-patch, for me they have made the game worse with it. Career mode is basically the same but for some unvoiced cinematic animations. Pro clubs is very samey once again. I'm still happy with the game but I feel EA shot themselves in the foot with this patch.

Same old fifa, a new year.A few updates, but depending if you update the game, very different defending from the original package, to the later versions.A great free update was the world cup mode. But a bit daft that the new kits were not updated in the offline version even if the wc kits were added to the game.I enjoy career mode, and playing with mates online and at home, but feel a poor relation to the people putting cash into FUT (fifa ultimate team), however, I guess I'm a poor relation to them, since i have the game, and don't spend any cash on gambling on pack, to try and get a 100 to 1 chance on getting a world class player to beat gobby pre teens online.Pro evo has the better team building options, but not the official shine fifa has, so still the better option.I'll be buying fifa 19, but not preordering, I'll look for the best deal on a non special edition. Still the best football game, but far from perfect.

This is the review of my 9 year old son who has previously had FIFA 2011 and 2016. He loved both those games and he saved up his money for this one and pre-ordered. Well done Amazon for the Price promise on pre-order items and refunding the difference. The game did not take long to install. The Journey is a great story mode with a real sense of reality including social media etc. He loves the manager mode......buying and selling players, negotiating contracts etc. he thinks the 'interaction' in negotiations etc. is great. The most important part of the game is the gameplay. The graphics are the best yet. Very lifelike. The running style is more realistic.I must admit to playing with my boy.......great fun.......problem is he is so much better than me........and always wins! Great game for all aspects of football. Not cheap but what this game contains and the hours it will entertain, it is great value. The best FIFA yet.

Fifa 18. It's not as good as 17 but does give good gameplay on occasion. This is very expensive for what it is as usual but it is nice to play though. Looks good on the ps4 and you can see the visual improvements but the actual gameplay has improved and hasn't. The defending is very tricky whereas in 17 it wasn't and it's easier to give away penalties. It's good when your attacking though as opponents have the same problem. It is fun to play ultimate team and I have gotten good players from packs which encourages me to play. Also the new squad building challenges and the increased players in the game too.Pro clubs is also fun to play with friends too. It's nice as you can control one of the 11 players on your team and define how the game goes by your movement and the things you do to help or aid team mates. Hence I have given 4 stars as it is still fun to play.I have had the game since release day also.??

If you enjoyed 17 then you'll like 18. Similar gameplay with a few improvements. Recent update has made scoring harder, and tackling easier which again improves the gameplay.I don't understand some of the complaints on bugs and slow gameplay. I've not had one bug and if it's slow then change the settings!Career mode is still good and new added features like talking to a player when dealing with transfers. The Journey continues from last year and for me is a brilliant idea from EA, something different that relates to football. I enjoy the scenarios and decisions you have to make which affects the story. Not everyone's cup of tea though.Overall I can't understand why so many people have complained about this.I do play Pro Evo but overall enjoy Fifa more. One bad point was the price,I agree that £50 is too much. Stick to £40 like most games!
