UPDATE (8/4/18)I've finally finished the game and, as promised (or threatened!), I have my final opinion on the game. It is clearly a great game and I enjoyed it a lot. This is part of the reason it took me so long to finish, as I tried to do as much of the game as possible, not just the main story. But I've decided to keep my mark at 4 stars. Why? Because the game is great but not perfect.Quite apart from some glitches, the game does have some issues. Not all the missions work as well as intended and some have issues if things don't go as planned. Not bugs as such, but an inability to deal with the gamer not doing exactly what was expected. Indeed, this even affects the structure of the game itself.I started in the area around Fall's End, which the game recommends, except I never got around to meeting Nick Frye who runs an airstrip. It is clear in the final confrontation with the Fall's End boss, John Seed, that the game assumes that you had learned to fly in Nick Frye's missions. Later still, some gameplay elements aren't tutorialised until the Henbane River area, including stuff you needed to know from the beginning of the game. These issues are minor compared to my main beef with Far Cry 5 and that is the storyline. As I said in my original review, the plot is very predictable but the problems go deeper than that. Unlike Far Cry 3, which had some stupid, pseudish plot elements, FC5 insists on bombarding you with this psychological guff throughout the game. In FC3, you could mostly ignore this stuff but in 5 you are frequently interrupted by the area boss as you damage their hold on the area. It gets silly (I was kidnapped more often than Princess Peach!) and as it turns out, these bosses' rantings are irrelevant to the endgame. And the endings are rubbish. I predicted the main ending at the beginning of the game as it is so obvious where the story is going. But the ending has no link to the rest of the game, which is tongue-in-cheek for the most part, and has a seriousness at odds with the rest of the game. Ubisoft are trying to have their cake and eat it; they want a silly, over-the-top conventional heroic game but still have a serious, 'all this is your own fault' ending. Those are Joseph's own words and I didn't buy it for a second. Ubisoft need to realise that Far Cry doesn't have to have a clever-clever psychological basis. Too often in games, I find clever-clever ends up being dumb-dumb.Far Cry 5 is a load of fun and I highly recommend it, yet it is not perfect. I loved that tongue-in-cheek humour that I mentioned, especially Clutch Nixon - the most magnificent SOB to ever walk the earth. Just ignore the story as best you can and don't try to read any great psychological, theological or sociological import into it. There isn't any - its just a load of old cobblers. Enjoy it for the game.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Just a few early thoughts on Far Cry 5. I am a fan of the Far Cry series and have enjoyed all the games, with the exception of Far Cry 2 (too many reasons to go in to here). The good news is, I like this one too. The four stars is a bit non-committal and for the simple reason that I haven't played enough of the game to be sure enough to give it a five. Playing the download Gold edition on the PS4 Pro with 4K TV from midnight, I've played a little more this afternoon, not as much as I'd like to have done.It looks good from the get-go. HDR 4K support, smooth frame-rate (so far) sets the tone as you arrive in Hope County on a doomed mission to arrest The Father (not Ted), a religious nut-job (the game's description, not mine, although he is clearly one chapter short of a Bible) and are plunged into a civil war across the county. The gameplay is the usual Far Cry stuff - guerrilla tactics, capture bases, help the population, complete missions - not too surprising so far. It is well done but I do feel that what I have seen of the story to date is rather obvious. This isn't a killer problem - after all, Far Cry 3 tied itself in knots trying to be clever in its story. Sometimes a more standard storyline can be refreshing in itself and Far Cry 3 was still brilliant despite the daft nature of some story elements. The control is great, the action flows well and the game generally does a good job of introducing new elements, despite a couple of spikes in difficulty early on which could have been avoided with more care from the developer. Hope County is a big place with lots to see and shoot, and lots of lovely explosions ensue. There is always something to do and I've barely scratched the surface.Far Cry 5 is clearly a great game...but how great? This is why I've given it four stars, not five. I just have some reservations regarding the overly familiar gameplay and story elements. When I see how the game pans out I'll decide whether or not to change the mark. It does at least seem to be a finished product, which is more than you can say for many games these days, not mentioning any names. *cough* Sea of Thieves *cough*

I want so badly for this to be 5 star review but unfortunately that would not be an honest assessment. I've been a big fan of the series since 3 & played every subsequent release. While 4 was often criticised as essentially being 3.5, I found this endearing & even thought that Primal had its charms without being especially memorable. So by the time Far Cry 5 had arrived after shelling out for the Gold edition (a first for me), my anticipation had reached fever pitch. I'm writing this review a day after completing the campaign with 80% of trophies; allowing it time to digest.I played this game for about 6 days straight with little reprieve & loved more or less every second of it.Tonally it was just a big departure from its predecessors but was still quantifiably a Far Cry game with familiar mechanics etc. I thought the North American setting was bold but more or less worked, even if the obvious socio-political metaphors didn't quite land as hard as they could have. For those familiar with the series, it retained many of its best elements. It was big, brash, fun & rewarding. The open-world was beautifully realised, being both graphically stunning & teeming with life & activity. The side missions were a marked improvement over previous installments as they actually had context & story-driven elements. I found the main campaign initially compelling, the antagonists & secondary characters enjoyable & the gameplay itself to be addictive. So why didn't I love it enough to give it 5?The game was excellent, don't get me wrong. I'd recommend it to anyone. However, some aspects of it have left me feeling somewhat dissatisfied.I thought the setting & inclusion of a pseudo religious cult to be a bold move & one which I was excited to see in action. However, the general motivations of the antagonists as well as their ill-explained religious creed left me wondering exactly what their plans were. The rarely glimpsed Joseph Seed had the hallmarks of a classic Far Cry villain but for me he lacked the menace of Vaas or the charisma of Pagan Min & his cameo appearances throughout the game accumulated to something that just fell a bit flat. Of the secondary antagonists I found Faith to be the most threatening, haunting & enjoyable. As much as I enjoyed the wide open world, with its many excellent landmarks, I didn't find the different regions distinctive enough to be as memorable as they could have been; though I understand this is difficult when the entire setting of the game is in one valley of one county.I won't spoil it at all, but the endings were utter dross & completely undid my desire to overlook some of the weaker elements of the game. I know others may feel differently.I'll come to my final qualm: the mute protagonist. Why? Why oh why oh why? I just don't get it. Yes, there was customisable gender but surely it couldn't have constrained the budget that much to record two sets of the same dialogue. I kept thinking to myself, "This does feel like Far Cry but something is missing", and it was that.To go from Jason Brodie & Ajay Ghale - whose personal journeys were woven into their installments - to then become this mute, forgettable generic deputy with no emotional stake in the story & absolutely no input on the events surrounding them just feels like terrible judgement on the part of the developers. I cannot stress enough how much I hated this aspect of the game. It left what could have been my favourite of the series feeling hollow & impersonal which is a genuine shame. All the same, I did genuinely love this game. Loved playing it & loved thinking about it when I wasn't playing it. It had most of the classic hallmarks of what has made Far Cry one of my all-time favourite game series, with a few exceptions.I only go so far into detail about my dislikes of this game because I loved it so much that I wanted it to be that bit better. All in all, it was a great experience, a game I'd recommend & I cannot wait to get torn into the DLC & arcade mode.

I purchased this via XBox Live directly from my console, hence why you may not see the "Verified Purchase" tag here.I play this on the XBox One X on a 55" 4K HDTV.I have played FC2-4 and Primal so far, so I am used to how FC games play. This game plays in much the same way as its previous incarnations, so seasoned FC players will feel as if though they are in familiar ground. Which is a good thing. So, I launched the game and first thing that hit me was the games beautiful soundtrack, particularly the Main Menu/launch screen. Wow, I could listen to it all day. In fact I am listening to it as I type this review. The music sort of puts me in mind of the Sons of Anarchy TV series. The game starts with the introductory cut scene which gives you the flavour of the content. An apparent religious cult headed by a long-haired madman has taken over the locality and you, as a rookie Sheriff's deputy, along with a team of US Marshals, arrive at the cult's HQ to arrest "The Father". Things don't go as planned and you end up on the run from the cult. As with previous FC games there is a little directed/scripted gameplay that you must complete before it becomes truly open world. The second thing that hit me, once you get the initial tutorial out of the way are the breath-taking graphics. Some of the best I have seen in a game so far. At first, during the tutorial, your appreciation of the beauty of the landscape is somewhat sullied by an early morning mist that pervades the forest. But once the tutorial is over the mist clears and you see the landscape in all its glory. There are various areas of this map that are open to you, each controlled by members of "The Father's 'family heads', which you can wander between as you see fit, completing all the missions in either in whatever order you like. The map is huge.Lots of weapons from pistols to rocket launchers, automatic machine guns to long-range sniper rifles. An assortment of vehicles to use from buggy to aircraft. Or, you can simply walk everywhere, moving on foot, which is what I tend to do as it allows me to fully appreciate the beautiful scenery. There are the familiar towers that appear to unlock areas of the map s with other FC games. There are fast travel options (why use these? you miss so much by using them). It truly is a magnificent game. Buy it!!! Right, enough of this review, I need to get back to the game.A few people have been asking if the game has visual and audio in other languages. Here are the options:Audio: English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese (Brazilian), Spanish,Display: English, French, German, Italian, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Czech, Dutch, Korean, Polish, Spanish, Portuguese (Brazilian). It also has a colourblind mode, HDR, subtitles, and allows multiplayer if you wish.

This is definitely the best Far Cry they've released in a long time, but like the others has its flaws one of which no-one would be surprised to hear is repetition. The game starts off at a really nice pace and ticks all the boxes, but soon after the initial mission you can tell its going to be much of the same and as a consequence gets stale quickly. Yes the missions are varied, but they are also very long winded and you face the same enemies with the same tactics every single time. The main story characters you interact with are at least unique and I did enjoy the new method of collecting side missions from speaking to general characters, but their stories are often dull and uninteresting so I find myself just skipping the conversations and actually longing to just read a side mission on a board like the old days. The inclusion of specialist allies to call on from your roster is a big help, but their dialogue is limited which helps add further to the feeling of repetition. You only have compare this to God Of War 4 which gives a good lesson of how to ease this problem especially with regards to travel. Subtle things such as providing different dialogue each time really makes a huge difference. For example, when in a boat playing God of War 4 Atreus asks Kratos to tell him a story and the story he tells different every time. If I'm in a car in Far Cry 5 with Hurk Drubman Jr (the most effective specialist for me) he says the same thing each time and it grated so much. There are some major positives for the series cannot be ignored though and that includes (on the whole) not having to climb towers to unlock views of the region, the new really clean player view where they have only essential information on now and a much simpler way of buying and upgrading weapons and not having to collect useless items which in the real world would have no relevance to the construction of one!Despite this obvious issue that has always plagued Far Cry games, Far Cry 5 is still a fun game on the whole - but I do recommend playing in between other games and not continuously to avoid getting bored too quickly. This is currently a 7/10 for me, though the DLC does look fantastic and could ascend the score to a 8+ if they play as good as they sound.

Firstly let's get the one star review out of the way. This game does NOT contain the Seaon Pass. The Ubisoft website has a comparison chart that clearly states it doesn't have the Season Pass. The US version does but as this the UK edition it does not have it. If people read these things in advance it would save people time and money.Anyway let's look at a few things.Cost and delivery.I bought this on release day for £89.80 and it arrived around 11am. Unfortunately it was not packaged and simply had a sticker on the collectors box. This was disappointing and I emailed customer services and they apologised for the slight damage and issued a partial refund which drove the cost down.ContentsAs it is the collectors edition its all about the contents.Firstly the statue is beautiful. A little on the light side but a wonderful addition to any collection. As with all Ubicollectibles you know what youre getting. Well sculpted, a draped flag that curves with the base and writing on the little book are nice features. The Father Edition also comes with the soundtrack (pretty standard) and a nice detailed map. I have done the age old mistake of unfolding it and can't fold it back up again but hey ho ?The gameThere will be much more detailed reviews of the game so I'll let you read those but my initial reaction is that this is the best Far Cry game so far (and yes I have played them all). I love that the entire map is open to you from the start and is split into three main regions. You can flit about the three or concentrate on one at a time, taking down the Family member of that region to weaken the cult. There are literally hundreds of missions, side missions and upgrades to be getting on with in the beautiful setting of Hope County.Bottom line, whether you want the Father Edition or just the game you need to play this game. The graphics are simply gorgeous and the gameplay feels new in places (especially driving) but strangely familar. Why are you still reading- go and buy it!

As a fan of the Far Cry series I decided to plumb for the Gold Edition of the game although as of the time of this review, the major DLC perks have yet to be released so I cannot comment on them.In the main, I really enjoyed my time with Far Cry 5. Graphically it is very good, at times I just wanted to sit and look at the rural countryside, especially on the Xbox One X where the 4k presentation and HDR really make this game sparkle. The map is big, probably not Assassin's Creed Origins big, but certainly big enough that it takes a fair while to get from A-B. I also enjoyed the concept of an Apocalypse predicting religious cult, the 'villains' in the large felt charismatic enough to be believable in the game world.Your character is the usual fodder, no body turned super hero. The NPC characters you meet along the way go from interesting to outright annoying. I liked to stick to the animal ones.Gameplay wise, you will find a lot of familiar aspects if you are used to the series or, any Ubisoft open world game. However, this one throws in very annoying hooks that will pull you like 'The Admiral' out of the game kicking and screaming into the story whether you wanted to follow the main plot or not. Once you have earned enough points in each territory, there are unavoidable plot points that kick in and will take you from whatever you are doing to parts you cannot avoid. I understand they want to tell the story, but in a sandbox game you want to play by your rules and I found it immensely frustrating that it happens 9 times throughout the game. Luckily you get a little warning it is about to happen so by the 3rd intrusion I just sat back and let it happen.Fortunately these are not bad enough to ruin the game, just to be an irritant. Overall I really enjoyed the game and completed all elements of the story. Now I am looking forward to the DLC.

An enjoyable game and a must for anyone who is a fan of the far cry games. The map is pretty good, the missions are mostly engaging and ultimately its enjoyable. Is the game better than FC4? Well I preferred 4 mainly for Pagan Min, the antagonist and his family in the game are mostly a let-down and a annoying dragging factor to the game play. You as the player cannot really relate to them for all their prophetic religious babbling except maybe Jacob and his survival of the fittest scary and brutal ideology. The map is beautiful and filled with lots of wildlife, and this succeeds so much by giving the player an organic feel to the world. The interaction with the world and its sounds, the realistic sounds of the guns etc feel organic and notably realistic more so than other efforts in this genre. However it can repetitious, everyone in Montana apparently lives in retro house-sheds and are armed to the teeth. The most irritating factor is the death by gratitude issue. People in the game are constantly and I do mean constantly thanking you in an effort to give the player a sense of self-worth or something but oh my days it is irritating. This entry does not deviate too far from what has made FC game so successful and its clearly a wise move, for its apparent annoyances the game is great fun and crucially very re-playable. Also the three DLC maps are a welcome additions especially the Lost on Mars segment because Hurk is a major feature and OMG he is possibly the most hilarious character addition to any game, ever! Worth the buy. Wonder where the next game will be set, Scotland would be interesting ; )

Brilliant. Was a little hesitant on getting this on release but I am so glad I waited. At £65 for the Father edition it was simply a no brainier.-The statue is great! Very detailed and large at over 30cm tall!-They provide a normal game case as well as the steelbook so you don’t have to risk damaging it.-Soundtrack is good, very different as well! You’ll see what I mean!-The map... well it’s a map so not overly exciting but nice to have.-DLC content is nice, bit different but nothing special.-I would like to point out the Season Pass is NOT included. There are some sites which state the father edition includes it however it doesn’t here. No biggy but bare this in mind!Have been playing the game for a couple of hours and so far very impressed!Visually it is stunning and I haven’t even tried it in 4K on my X yet so you won’t be disappointed.I’m loving the environment, there is always something happening and you don’t have to go far to find trouble, be it a crazed trucker chasing you down and blasting out your rear windows or fending off a bear whilst trekking through the woods! It has all the following:Clothes customisationGun customisationCraftingFishingBuying vehiclesAnd more!If you are a fan of the Far cry series I honestly think this is the best yet given the location and characters but even if new to the series it would appeal! The normal edition is £50 in most places so at £65 for the Father edition what are you waiting for!

Brilliant game, and an epic story as always with Far Cry, the new perk system is a vast improvement, and means you no longer have to go hunting for hours on end just to carry more stuff!! The graphic are stunning, and that is on a PS4 Slim, not even a pro so it will look so much better on the newer console. The easter egg about the towers from Dutch early on in the game is one of many funny moments, the new type of liberation system is also much better than 3 & 4. The gold edition was £59.00 when i pre-ordered it, which is an absolute bargain when you think about what you get (the season pass alone makes it worth it). For trophy hunters, i've just platinumed the game after just over two weeks, there are a few tedious multiplayer trophies but they aren't the worst. In terms of multi-player, this is a really good addition, the match creation has no problems and the actual matches are fun, which is what Far Cry is, fun. The ability to play with friends in missions and in free-roam is epic, and i have spent so much time doing this, it really adds something to the game, its taken the idea from 4 and made it brilliant. Having 4 enemies, the same as 4 is also brilliant, unlike 4, you never really cared about anyone other than Pagan Min, but like 3, you really enjoy the dialogue and also their endings like with Vaas and Hoyt from 3. Overall a brilliant game, and I look forward to the DLC, especially the classic version of 3!

Only a few hours in but it's great so far. Fantastic visuals, challenging combat from the start and some interesting new features, such as rosters / recruiting (I'm sure more new features will become apparent as I progress through the story). The antagonists also seem engaging from the start, which is expected from a Far Cry installment, so no disappointments there. Hopefully the game remains interesting throughout and doesn't result in repetition between the various regions and cult leaders. However, I can't yet say for sure if this is the case or not.I do think people are basing their reviews too much on the current political climate and this should not emphasise or hinder any review. Yes,there are probably some influences there but it's not expected to be a contemporary political form of art that delves into various arguments and prompts critical thought. The only reason this is not a five star review is because the game is not the reimagining of the series I expected it to be with its new setting and outlook. It's not a bad thing that I feel like I'm going through the same Far Cry template because I love the franchise, but it's also not going to knock it out the park for me for its intuition.Overall, this is a game I will be playing for many hours and it's worthy of a purchase. Just expect a familiar Far Cry template with a few new elements (again, not necessarily a bad thing).

So initially i bought 2 copies one for me and one for a friends birthday, 1 gold and one normal copy with a free gift geetings as amazon provide. I then felt bad for my friend so cancelled the order and ordered the gold aswell because of all the extra content especially a full copy of farcry 3 i figured £10 extra for an extra game i loved when i was younger was well worth it. I forgot to add the gift option again to the order as it was prime next day and the window was an hour before the next day ended, you know that little panic. They sent the copy with the gift message anyway. Sometimes its the little touches that make the difference.Re the actual game i havent even played it or been asked to review yet but cant reccomend the series enough and quite frankly i am absolutely certain it will more than beat farcry 4 just from the videos and the gameplay. Personally i didnt like farcry primeval but in fairness i played it for about 2 hours and couldnt play anymore because quite frankly it really scared me with the realism of the gameplay, plus constanly getting me to create weapons left me with a certain insecurity epsecially when i tried to attack a wolly mammoth and a sabre tooth jumped out at me too. Fyi im 25 and not easily scared normally. Also if you love farcry a similar designed game is homefront revolution that i stumbled upon by chance.

Was I the only one that previously got to far cry 3, and then was like “meh” - done that? ? (pros ☑️ and cons ✖️ Review below).Like the original iPhone was groundbreaking, when the original far cry came out it was also revolutionary. Guns wall down and broke, environments can be set on fire, and some of these things more modern games don’t do as well. However the price point this is a really good buy ?Pros:☑️ 4K and Xbox series enhanced, however still plays well on first gen Xbox One. Didn’t see any terrible frame drops throughout.☑️ Regardless, graphics and gameplay smooth and crisp. Incredibly large map!☑️ Controls are not difficult to get The hang of☑️ Actually enjoyed the deep south USA setting for once. Not a lot of games are set like this☑️ Got a good two weeks of casual play out of this, given the price point (I paid £15) well worth the money.☑️ Very interesting… ending (no cheating!)Cons:✖️ Introducing a paid coin facility… Bad to Ubisoft , very bad.✖️ The guns, the lack of easily being able to compare them. Also, the later on lots of guns are in some cases not any better than the early guns!✖️ You can purchase special weapons at any time, however again some of the special weapons have the same stats as the start guns ?All in all a good game, do a buy!

At first i found this game hard to like... i don't like 1st person shooters as i prefer to see my character on screen. The opening story sucks you in and before long you forget it is a 1st person because it is so good. Some of Ubisoft's other games range from good to bad within the game, like Wildlands. I liked it but a few missions spoilt it for me. Far Cry 5 is very similar, there is one mission i am not keen on (Hit the Gas) but it does not stop you from continuing the game. As you progress more missions become available so if you want to avoid one simply do one of the others, you can continue to the ending by doing this. The soundtrack is excellent. There is a mission where you have to climb up a statue,at the top you hear the wind and it really does feel as if you are there. I don't like heights and was scared to fall ! The radio tower is similar. Some missions take a few attempts but that is good as you need to think a strategy, you can't just go in guns blazing. I like to take a couple out by stealth then go full blast. Never played a Far Cry game before but once i finish this i will try FC New Dawn and Far Cry 4. Highly recommended, in my opinion this is the best UBISOFT game.UPDATE: Completed this game TWICE, did both endings. One of my favourite ever games.

FC5 starts off really well, you're a Deputy of the Sheriffs department going into an area which is essentially lawless who all praise this man who is meant to be the next coming. You fly by helicopter in with the Sheriff, who clearly doesn't want to go, and a US Marshal to arrest this guy and of course it all goes wrong.Eventually you end up running and being found by an old man who wants to help, and turns out is kind of leading a resistance. He tells you a few things you need to do like connecting up a radio tower but then pokes fun at previous games saying "don't worry I won't ask you to do that again".From there you have 3 areas which are run by this guys disciples, you have to build enough aggro against their area before they'll meet you and you can attempt to kill them.It does feel like you are given the same tasks over and over but the game is build solidly, the weapons feel weighty and the flying and driving experiences are really good. Instead of crafting things like you have did previously you have a skill tree, which I think I preferred. The story line for me, just kinda fell flat, and the ending was, meh. Hence the 4 star rather than 5. FC3 is still the marker for this series. Well worth playing though

I've played FC4 for hours and hours, so glad that I've got another dose with FC5. The graphics are very similar, which is not surprising as it is also on PS4! However the storyline and quests are brilliant. The levelling up (perks) is very well designed. It's important to get cash early on, so try and farm it. Either learn how to fish, or get Jess to go animal hunting with you. I couldn't hunt alone to save my life, but having Jess join you makes it simple.I like the helicopter gunship, however it is very tricky to aim and shoot vehicles, and the missiles cost £250 a shot! Hopefully they will adjust the aiming sensitivity with an update. You can buy silver bars, but that doesn't translate to in-game dollars. If a silver bar equated to say $50k in game currency, I'd think about buying some as the gunship is so fun.If you enjoy free-roaming, be aware that there is an enemy spotter plane which will very quickly zero in on you. I would recommend having Nick Rye as one of your team, so he can take care of other aircraft. It's also very fun to spot targets with binoculars and have Nick strafe or dive bomb them! This is one game with repeat value, and I definitely expect to be playing it in 2020!
