Having played all previous games in the series, including the rebooted game from Ninja Theory, I am happy to say that Devil May Cry is back with a bang. Picking up from Devil May Cry 4, the story once again involves the legendary demon hunter Dante as well as the return of Nero but also including a brand new character named “V”.I won’t go much into the story element, you just have to experience that for yourself. What I will say though is the action is as manic as ever. As with previous games, you hack and slash throughout the levels and upgrade on weapons and abilities to increase your variety.Long-time fans will instantly recognise some of the enemies encountered in the game and even some that we haven’t seen since the first game. Here’s a brief summary of each character:Dante – The demon hunter returns with all four styles (Trickster, Sword master, Gunslinger, Royal Guard) from DMC4 and just as before, his classic moves are back with some new abilities to master. However one thing I should note, you will have to wait till Mission 10 in order to play him as the other 2 characters take the first ten levels.Nero – I was almost going to say Dante’s twin, but no that’s Vergil. Nero is back with all the base moves from the fourth game. However, this time Nero’s Devil bringer can be upgraded (he’s not stuck with one move) and believe me you will spoilt for choice as there are many different devil bringer arms to equip Nero with.V – A mysterious character to say the least. V does not fight like Dante and Nero, he does not even use any swords or guns, he basically summons spirits (Griffon, Shadow and Nightmare) to attack his enemies and he gets to deal the final blow with his cane once enough damage is done. This third character adds a totally different layer of gameplay which I appreciate. There really isn’t more to write, if you enjoyed the previous games, you will enjoy this just as much. Now I’ve praised the game enough, is there anything I don’t like about the game? Well this is more to do with nit-picks really:* Once again, moves like Air Hike (Double Jump) and Stinger has be purchased and considering this is the fifth game in the original series, I would have expected these moves to be available from the get go. Remember Devil May Cry 2? That’s the only game in the series to actually include these moves when you start the game.* Some of the level designs admittedly are very similar making the levels feel repetitive.Again these are small nit-picks and it doesn’t affect my enjoyment of the game.Is it the best Devil May Cry game in the series? Graphically yes, but I still regard the first and third games as the best.

Having not played a Devil May Cry game since the PS2 era this took some getting used to again. DMC isn't just a basic hack and slash game. The idea is to play with style chaining combos and switching your attacks constantly. The better you play the better rating you get after each battle. Simply spamming one button wont get you far and would likely become boring so be prepared for a slight learning curve as you'll need to remember how to perform your various attacks. If you've played a DMC game recently then it will probably feel familiar yet improved with more depth to the combat.Graphics are impressive even on the base PS4. Easily on par with other recent releases and in some cases excelling.Detailed environments, characters and enemies are all eye candy. The soundtrack is fun, its got metal and some cheesy emo tracks, most notably from the opening credits cutscene. It reminds me of the early 2000s. Heck one of the main characters (V) looks like he came straight from a Marilyn Manson tribute band.If there is a weak point to this game then its the dialogue. It goes beyond being cheesy to just complete cringe at times. A prime example being a conversation between Nero and Nico when she picks up a demons toe.Nero: Did you just sniff that, do you have any idea where that's been?Nico: Up your butt??And that really sets the standard of the dialogue for most of the game. Nico's character had so much potential but the lines she is given and the way they are delivered is god awful. The same can be said for most of the main characters. They just went too far with the cheese to the point of it being embarrassing to listen to.Luckily it can be forgiven because the game is so strong in every other area.Still playing through the story so will update with more opinions soon.

This game has absolutely stunning graphics, everything from the environments to the monsters and cutscenes is beautifully rendered. I was tempted to give it 5 stars just because of that, but there are a couple things that I didn't like so 4 stars seemed fair. The first negative is that most of the game was just too easy for me on the highest difficulty you can set on the first playthrough. Once you've finished the game you unlock higher difficulties, but I've never been one to replay a game straight away. I'd much prefer the makers let me choose a difficulty that gives me the right challenge on first time playing. The other thing is it did start to feel a bit repetitive at times.I thought earlier DMC games had some puzzle elements to them, but I could be mistaken. This game is fighting all the way through. I think if you like learning all the combos this could be interesting enough though, I learnt a few but the rest I was button mashing.Overall this is a fantastic game and a bit of a landmark visually so I don't hesitate in recommending it.

It's a super simple and straight forward action packed Devil May Cry game. It's got everything going for it. Great combat system, great character flair and really enjoyable visuals. In a world where gaming has become overly complicated and saturated with the same open world or complex story driven elements, it's great to be able to play something like thisJust a little warning DmC games are known for replay-ability so expect to play through the game again in order to properly use the abilities and weapons you have earned....or you can do the Dante exploit to get enough to get them all

Fast combat has a great variety between the 3 characters. Nero's devil breakers bring a bit of tactics to the combat knowing which are the right ones to bring for the mission. Dante has the most variety with his weapons and styles making him the most complex, the amount of combat options are incredible. V Is the most unique with really unusual combat styles. The story is fun, maybe not the most complex but, more 90's early 2000's action movie stuff. All in all a great game that puts fun over anything else which in this day and age is sadly lacking

DMC5 has set the bar for stylish action games going forward, with fun, addictive gameplay that feels so good to get good at and improve on and an interesting story with appealing, cool characters. A must get for fans of similar games like the early god of war games, metal gear rising and bayonetta and a perfect gateway for those interested in exploring these kinds of games. Do yourself a favour, pick it up and have a blast.P.S. the real game starts after you finish the story and start learning how to pull off crazy, stylish combos

This game is pretty awesome, the graphics are stunning and the story is gripping and entertaining however doesn’t take itself seriously leading to some hilarious moments. My only problem with the game is the demanding control system that can cause problems to casual gamers (like myself) there is a lot and I mean a lot of move sets in this game so I say learn what bests suits you in combat and stick with it but learning everything just gave me a headache. Definitely worth checking tho 4/5

DMC5 did the impossible, it made me prefer playing as Nero over Dante. I feel there is a little too much going on with Dante. Z’s missions feel like the MJ/Miles missions from Spider-Man if that makes any sense. Currently working through Son of Sparda modeGreat game play and beautiful graphics. Just personally not a fan of having three characters to play throughStory is fun. And reply value is there. It’s worth a play through for sure

Finished this game in about 12 hours on easy difficulty. Playing the demo didn't do this game justice. The combos are the most fun in a video game and easy to pull off. All three characters to play as - have deep progression and a lot to unlock. Im gonna play through again with a new difficulty and to unlock more abilities. If you haven't played this, buy it! Music and story won me over in the last 2 hours of the game. Off to play again!

20.6.2019

Excellent game, it stays with the previous games. Excellent graphics, good sound, excellent playability. Great atmosphere, and challenging. Only ifs about it are the environments, as I think they could've been a bit more creepy looking. That's my only if. Would recommend to anyone who likes the DMC games or hack and slash games. 5stars. Top banana.

The legendary Devil May Cry series finally returns and it's a non stop action ride from beginning to end, with three different and very fun to play characters as well as a lengthy campaign. DMC V combat is the best in the business and with a update that adds a new mode new month DMC V is easily one of the best games of the year.

2.4.2019

Absolutely fantastic game. Great follow up from the past games, the rapids are amazing and battle system is great too. I have no faults for this game, well worth a buy to people who are familiar with the series, but also those who haven’t played the other games, as a history of dmc is available to explain the story.

20.3.2019

I have been a DMC fan for a long time and this new addition is just amazing. The gamplay is so clever and so fun to play. The Storyline will uncover some questions from a previous games yet new players will understand with qucik storytelling at the beginning. Definitely worth a try.

6.11.2019

Some design choices don't quite gel (looking at you posh goth dude called V). Maybe I'll warm to it, but the breakneck speed of the game means short bursts of high octane gameplay come effortlessly to this DMC follow up.Just wish there was more Dante from the offset.

30.6.2019

I love playing this game. Ever since dmc3 I was completely in awe of how they can orchestrate a story. This one won't let you down. It's got combos and a hell of a lot more to offer. If you're a die hard fan you'll not hesitate... not for a second
