Been studying and buying photo backpacks and wheeled packs for years. Have had Tamrac and LowePro primarily. These have been OK when travelling and for cabin luggage but if I wanted a pack for walking pleasure when not on work assignment, none of them proved satisfactory .... choose a pack good for photo gear and there is not much room left for hiking and emergency gear.Chanced upon this Farpoint Trek 55. First thing I noted was 55 litres. Second was the U shaped zip layout.I could plonk a photo equipment insert and still leave room for hiking gear. Also, this pack is just the ticket if instead of hiking gear, I use it for LoewPro Toploader 75 and a Pacsafe Camsafe Anti-Theft Protective Camera Insert,Large. All the kit (and a tripod on the outside). The second purpose for this pack is that neither Osprey nor Alpine Lowe produce a hybrid pack which is large enough for my work assignments, which I need 100 litre +. At present I use one bought on Amazon which is 115 litress, has wheels and for going up the gangway on ships or indeed the narrow corridors, it is carried with shoulder harness on one's back. Well, instead of one large pack, I could split it to this one (55 litres) and the Farpoing 65. Then my office equipment could be carried in Farpoint 36 (smaller) or Loew Aline AT Roll-On 40 (larger). The pack has other good features. Top amongst them is the ventilated suspension back system. You would appreciate that in hot climates. There are anchor points for attaching an Osprey Daylite pack. There are two straps which you could secure a Karrimat on the outside. Dump pockets on both sides on the outside. Snap hook for keys inside the top pocket etc.Over all I like this pack. If I have to make one negative observation it is that the area around the side handle is of the same thin material wall of the pack, There is not much in way of reinforcement. Of course you as owner of the pack would be careful but I could see that being accidentally ripped by the bus driver or luggage handlers or it being caught by something snagging near the converors in and around airports. At 55 litres it is too large for most cabin luggage size restrictions.
