Whether you're a die-hard Star Trek fan, a fan of just the recent J.J. Abrams reboot films or just a casual gamer this game will have something for you. It definitely benefits from having a lot of the creative team behind the most recent films onboard to develop this game. It looks, feels and sounds like you're taking part in one of the films. It looks even better if you're lucky like me and have a 3D TV! It's action-packed but still allows you time to look around the different environments. For me I'd say the best part of this is getting to walk around pretty much the whole of the Enterprise. You get to see locations from the film, such as the bridge and sickbay, but also other parts of the ship you've either never seen before or haven't seen much of.Gameplay-wise, you get the choice of playing either Kirk or Spock (although both are usually alongside each other anyway, so I'm guessing this is solely down to different abilities!). So far, I've only played the game through as Kirk. Most of the action involves you using your phaser, but you do get to collect various other weapons along the way. Having said that, a lot of bonus objectives do require you, in true Star Trek style, to only stun or otherwise subdue enemies rather than outright kill them. You even get to use the Enterprise herself and her weapons at one point!Lastly, I really loved the fact that they went out of their way and recorded the voices of every single cast member from the films (watching a behind-the-scenes video online, I found out they had to track down each actor all over the world as they were understandably away shooting other things at the time!). I've played previous Star Trek games and they've really suffered when using different actors. A word of advice to players, be on the lookout for various hidden objects scattered throughout the game, especially communicators. Some of these, especially in the levels on the Enterprise, feature recordings of the main characters and add a little more back-story to them. I felt the best of these came from Chekov, as he speaks about the crew's prejudice to him being so young and "the kid".Overall, a top-notch game which will hopefully lead to more Star Trek games for the PS3.

I did two playthroughs of the game, with both Kirk and Spock. It is not as buggy and glitchy as some reviews imply. There were only two glitches and a couple of bugs in both of my playthroughs. Nothing significant, just cosmetic stuff. The game never crashed on me and the missions never bugged out, I could complete all of them. The bad:1. extremely clunky controls2. inconsistent graphical quality; some parts look great, others terrible3. stale facial animations..."manikins"4. no close-quarter combat moves5. dumb enemy AIThe main problem I had was with the clunky movement controls.I used to think that Rockstar games had clunky controls but Star Trek has much worse. The combat got very frustrating at times, especially when you had to fight several enemies at once.It also bothered me that you didn't have any close-quarter combat moves, like basic punching.Because of this and the clunky controls the assault approach should be avoided. Go for stealth instead. The good:1. the stealth gameplay was fun2. an entertaining storyline...a decent sci-fi adventure3. a nice variety of settings to progress through4. using the weapons and tricorder was great fun5. excellent musicThe stealth approach was enjoyable because using the tricorder, stun weapons and takedowns was addictively fun.I would distract the enemy using my tricorder, stun him with my gun and then knock him out with a punch or nerve pinch. You can use the tricorder to distract the enemy, jam weapons, hack turrets etc.Using the weapons was fun because they all have their iconic traits and designs, they feel unique. You can also upgrade them to have better stun effects and such.Lastly I appreciated all the different settings you traveled through, it gave the game a good sense of adventure. The overly clunky controls and inconsistent graphical quality are the two main problems the game has, if you are able to ignore this and focus on the positives you get a game with a decent storyline and fun stealthy gameplay.

As a huge fan of the franchise and every single incantation of Star Trek and being an avid gamer, I was really looking forward to this but was worried it wouldn't live up to expectations. Having played the vast majority of new games on the market, I was also curious as to how the developers would deal with such an enormous potential customer base.First things first and although they don't make or break a game, the graphics range from adequate to very good. The 'new' Enterprise and characters are there in all their shinyness, the game play is a mixture of Mass Effect 3, GOW3 and probably Tomb Raider (climbing, swimming)and Army of Two because you are either Kirk or Spock, who 'do' the maps, the other characters are in the background. The chosen enemy is the Gorn who Trek fans will be familiar with, there are plenty of weapons, 'ammunition' boxes, types of weapons to pick up and even different choices of uniform. The choice of enemy I thought was a bit strange when you could have chosen from a vast variety, Klingon, Romulan etc etc but it works with the Gorn who are trying to dominate solar systems. One thing I did find a bit strange early on was the ship to ship space battles, which were/are a bit 'Legacy' like in the game play, I think this could have been done a bit better but the maps like traversing the external part of an orbiting space station and having to use a portable transporter are great, as are the tri-corders for finding your way about and discovering things. You can play Co-Op with another player if you choose to do so, one being Kirk the other Spock and can go through the levels together. I would highly recommend this especially if your a Trek fan or into Sci-Fi games, it has the humour, characters, music and scale of the programs and I can see more games in the future especially as Trek has a new lease of life with the films.

I guess upon original release, at full price pretty much every reviewers sent a copy was reluctant to rate this game very highly for obvious reasons - its not the greatest game you're ever going to play, but used - for a few quid - its actually very enjoyable. It's not the most challenging thing you're ever going to play but sometimes all you want is something that just gets on with it, A-B. Gameplay is highly liniar, controls are a little clunky - I don't know about co-op and multiplayer mode, but playing off-line playing as either Playable character (Kirk or Spock) with the games inbuilt AI works okay. The story's not that bad, ties in with the onscreen world of the current film franchise well and re-introduces the Gorn as credible villains rather than the big, green bulky-guy in the lizard mask Bill Shatner had to fight in the OS episode "Arena".Not great, not taxing but find of fun, I enjoyed it.Coming off a binge of PS1 era Tomb Raider its just so nice playing something where you aren't dying, literally, every 3 minutes and its nice the fact they actually originated an original story for the game, not try to piggy-back it off whatever ongoing movie release - plus the vocal cast features the current cast, some of the dialogue is rather snappy - there's a nice line where Kirk comments how he like a female character and Spock retorts: "There are females you don't like?" - its cheesy and doesn't take itself terribly seriously.4/5

Although I have been interested in the Star Trek franchise for a while I initially put off buying this game. Having heard some bad reviews, I wasn't prepared to fork out £40 on it.But as with every game that spawns from a movie I knew the price would fall shortly after, so I waited. (I'd like to stress that this game is not based on the movies but rather in between the 1st and 2nd of the Star Trek reboot with Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto). When it reached about £10 I went for it, as I could resist it any longer and I was quite impressed. The graphics overall had a few glitchy moments but were not bad- 7.5/10The sound was truly excellent with all the voice actors from the film participating-9.5/10The game time was a decent 8 - 12 hours depending on your gameplay style- 7/10The gameplay itself was alright, third person with a lot of repetitive code cracking schemes and story problems/objectives- 5.5/10The story was pretty good with some tense moments and classic Star Trek quotes and personality capture well-8/10Finally, if you're buying for the multiplayer I wouldn't bother, its just the story with a friend but glitches out most of the time online, but ok with a friend at your location-2/10The game was very enjoyable to a fan like myself but I think might not appeal to player who want a simple sci-fi shooter game, I'll be playing again but I think for others its a one time play through.

Star Trek is a very enjoyable third person shooter which is very entertaining. The story is set after the events of the 2009 film and revolves around an invasion by the Gorn who are portrayed as vicious lizards of varying sub-species.You have the choice to play as either Kirk or Spock, each having there own attributes (Kirk shooter - Spock stealth) using various weapons and the tricorder as the trouble shooter. The player must progress through the game either through force or stealth, working your way through the different environments making your way through puzzles and enemies.Gameplay is very standard, sometimes a little sticky in places but nothing that can't be handled. Graphics are very good, not the best you'll ever see but still very good and the story line, although a little tedious in places, is very good to.Overall Star Trek is a very enjoyable game which for all the Star Trek fans out there is well worth while playing, maybe not so if your a standard gamer but still a good game none the less.

This is a fun outing steeped in the new Star Trek universe. If you're a Trekkie then there's lots to be had from this title: Great soundtrack; Original cast voiceovers and dialogue; and the opportunity to see more of the new Enterprise interior. Oh and not forgetting the phasers!Don't expect a script masterpiece however - it's flaky at best. The Gorn, whilst fulfilling their role as the bad guys quite well, don't provide much of a challenge (and oddly come in a variety of different colours) so you're able to blast through the game on normal difficulty without too much trouble. This game has received a lot of unfair criticism (complaints ranging from graphics to bugs to the puzzles)but provided you take it for what it is: a fun outing with the characters you know and love then you'll get on well with it. I've finished it with Kirk and I'll play through it again as Spock in the future.[Update] Now the price has been slashed in half then Trekkies really have no excuse not to buy it!

The game appeases my inner Star Trek fan than it does my inner Gamer. Lots of in-mission levels set on the Enterprise give a true scale of the ship and it is interesting to see all of Engineering, Sickbay and the shuttlebay in all their detail. There are not as many references to previous shows or Original series elements, but that kind of fits in with the new films as they try hard not to alienate their new fanbase by delving too much into the older Trek fanbase. If you are a hardcore gamer, you will most likely find little in this game, however as a Trek fan, it is a must buy.Two high points of note in particular are:1. The dialogue, which has nailed the feel of each character.Bar Uhura who sounds bored to tears.2. Musical score, which sets up the tones of each level perfectly. It emphasizes the eerie feelings on New Vulcan, feelings of exploration on the Gorn Planet and heroics when on the Enterprise.

If you're a ''Trekie'' as I like to call myself, then this is the perfect game for you. I love Star Trek and I loved the latest film and this game is EPIC!!! I haven't completed it yet but so far you can play as either Kirk or Spok, you might be able to change character the further you get into the game. The graphics are really good and detailed. I got this game for Xbox 360 for my birthday and I'm not usually a big gamer but from starting to play this I just don't want to stop playing it! It's that good!.

One question to nearly all the the reviews about this game, why did u all buy it then, if u think it's rubbish, It's just a game. The developers/ publishers worked really hard, the fantastic cast which the amazing, enjoyable actors put there own talented voices. I was so excited about replaying this again, I'm so pleased I'v bought it naw, but this time for fantastic Windows 10. If u guys not got anything good to say about the STAR TREK game please don't say anything live long & prosper

Admittedly, on the first day I tried it I had trouble, due to a malfunction with the AI - I reached the first door and Spock just stopped and wouldn't help me pull it open. However a day later, the problem was solved and I instantly progressed through the level. Other than that, this game is great. The banter between Kirk and Spock is top notch, just as it is in the reboot movies. Also, at such a cheap price, this game is actually worth every penny.

If you're a hardcore gamer, move on. If (like me) you enjoy star trek, video games and sharing both with the wife, and then this is for you.The game is clearly trying to emulate the Mass Effect franchise, and fails dismally. Graphics aren't bad, the game features the voices of the actors from the movie but game play is mediocre. Add to this a bunch of irritating bugs and any serious gamer will be switching off very soon. Definitely one for the fans

Not a bad game at all but let down by some rubbish AI that keeps disappearing then reappearing and NOT really supporting you when it comes to watching your back in fights. Found it a bit buggy in places where the AI seems to be invisible, maybe this will be fixed with a patch. On the whole its not exactly the calibre of games like Lost Planet or Dead Space but its still worth buying. Have played a good percentage of the game and enjoyed it so far.

Great storyline and great game. If your a fan of JJ trek then will love this game, its a great prequel to Into Darkness to get you in the mood. The gameplay and AI can be a bit a of a hindrance at times but the basic thought is there and there's some interesting bits to make it feel more like Trek like rerouteing power to change where a turret is shooting. Graphics also leave a lot to be desired these days, but I wouldn't exactly call them bad.
