The Stanmore II is not my first Marshall product. I already own the first generation of Stanmore and Woburn and the portable Stockwell. I can therefore say that I know quite well the Marshall lineup.Stanmore II is the sweet spot within the product range as it is compact but capable of high performance. The Acton is too tiny and cannot play at a similar volume or ensure the same bass response. On the other hand, the Woburn can be even louder and richer in bass range thanks to its two woofers. If space is not an issue Woburn can deliver the best performance but your neighbors may not appreciate it as much you do.All in all the Stanmore II is a very good product that will please any user, even the most demanding:• Built quality: As any Marshall products, it is built paying attention to details. It is entirely covered with high quality black vinyl, details are made of real brass and knobs are rubberized for easier grip.• Features: Stanmore II offers very good connectivity thanks to RCA, 3.5mm Jack and Bluetooth 5.0. The wireless connection allows to keep two devices connected at a time and, by playing a song on one of them, the other one will be automatically paused if already playing. In addition to this the App allows to pair multiple Marshall products together and fine tune the sound with 5 bands EQ. Bluetooth connection is low latency and ensures no lag between video and audio while watching a movie. All the knobs of Stanmore II are digital and show the level with nice red leds whose intensity can be dimmed.• Sound quality: if compared to the previous generation there is a difference in timbre of sound. Stanmore I was smoother with less extension to the high end. Probably with Stanmore II new tweeters have been used to increase efficiency and this led to a well detailed sound which is sharper than before. Overall sound quality is very good and the DSP makes sure that the sound is always balanced and undistorted.• Optical audio: the Stanmore II lost the optical connection that was available in the first generation. Beware of this in case you want to use it also as a soundbar for your TV and that with a few £ an external converter can be added and connected to RCA input.• Volume management: this is definitely a step forward on the previous generation. Stanmore I and the connected Bluetooth device had two different volumes that had to be adjusted individually. With Stanmore II the master volume is unique and can be set either from the speaker or from a phone. By spinning the knob on the speaker, you will see the volume on your phone increase or decrease accordingly.• Play/Pause/Skip button: a multifunctional button, missing in Stanmore I, has been added. It is very useful.

I've always loved the look and feel of Marshall speakers, not to mention the sound, most importantly. Until recently I didn't even know that they'd gone parallel to their line of guitar amps and added home music speakers, so I was really excited to try this. The speaker comes with just the power cable. I'd liked to have seen an aux cable included, but I get why they didn't, as it's meant to be standalone Bluetooth, especially with Alexa involved now. All the same it can't imagine an aux cable being an expensive addition by Marshall. The build quality is absolutely fantastic. It has the hallmarks of the Marshall guitar amp I had, years ago. The leather-like black finish, brushed brass colour knobs and back plates, and the textured material front section. When switched on you easily choose whether you're using aux, wireless or Bluetooth, with a red light indicating your choice. I like that as you turn the volume up or down the level is indicated by little red lights, which is a nice modern touch. The sound quality is excellent. It's doesn't have the best clarity – I have a pair of Creative desktop speakers which have more clarity – but it nonetheless has a very rounded sound, which features good bass too, though obviously the sassiest track won't be best on a speaker like this. I did experience some vibration on higher registers, where even turning the volume down didn't rectify this. A couple of times I had to actually switch over to my other speakers for certain tracks because of this, which is disappointing. The Bluetooth connectivity is fast – I connected my iPhone and Mac without issue. I did have issues with lag though, which is very disappointing. This makes watching anything not an option. I know these are specifically music speakers, but I still didn't expect lag like this on video. The app is terrible, to put it frankly. It worked well for about a week and then all of a sudden refused to connect with my phone. I deleted, reset, re-signed in to the wireless router but all to no avail. So I no longer can use the app.I've given this four stars, but it really is more like a 3.7 or 3.8 if I were to give a more detailed rating. I do really like this speaker – it had some major plus points, but there are issues I didn't expect for a speaker of this price.

This review is for the Stanmore II version of the speakerI've never been one to use words like 'beautiful' or 'exquisite' to describe items of tech but both of those really are well and truly justified here.On arrival, the first thing that struck me was the weight, this thing weighs several kilos and that reflects the fact it isn't just cheap plastic but a real premium piece of kit.Once opened the actual speaker itself is a real eye catching piece of hardware and the retro look and feel really do make it a sight to behold with the brass detailing standing out. The unit itself is made of beautiful wood with black vinyl covering to enforce that retro feel and style.Once powered up for the first time there were some firmware updates and usually set up rigmarole to go through. Not exactly seamless, the instructions could definitely be improved, but not too much trouble and within a short time it was connected to my Alexa and the Bluetooth pairing was signaled with a rather amusing guitar riff.Although it is described as a Bluetooth speaker it does have built in wi-fi as well so supports pretty much any modern day connection you could want, i've even managed to connect mine to my TV as an additional speaker. Bluetooth was decent enough but the difference when connecting via wi-fi was very noticeable so i'd definitely recommend that connection where possibleThe sounds that come from it really are impressive, deep, rich bass with no crackling or tinny sounds of any sort and the max volume really is ridiculously loud, much louder than I think any home would need. The only real drawback I would say is that there is no remote so you have to control it and set it all up using the Marshall app.One of my favorite items I've ever got off amazon that's for sure

This is a mains powered amp and speaker with Alexa and inputs from Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and a 3.5mm stereo jack; there isn’t an input for a guitar though. The specification states that it has two 15 watt and one 30 watt amplifiers but clearly that is not RMS rating as it’s not that loud. For a little mono speaker the sound is pretty good, but as you will see below, setup wasn’t straight forward. The construction is good and it wouldn’t look out of place on a book shelf. The initial setup is via Wi-Fi. It initially picked up my 5GHz normal and DFS channels, but kept dropping out of the DFS channel, so it was switched to the normal 5GHz channel. The Marshall Voice app downloaded and automatically downloaded and installed a firmware update for the speaker. Bluetooth was showing as enabled and connected on the Marshall speaker and a Samsung Tab S Tablet, but it would not play any tracks from the Tab S. The Marshall user guide refers to downloading the Marshall Bluetooth app, I did that but it still wouldn’t play tracks. I eventually removed both Marshall apps and the tracks played immediately. Bluetooth 5.0 is installed but it doesn't have aptXBack in the day in certain environments, we were warned that a mobile phone could be switched on (hacked) without your knowledge, and your conversations would be transmitted to that person / organisation. So I’m wary of Alexa, Siri et al, and if you don’t need that facility Marshall offer a cheaper version of this speaker. For the price of this speaker you could buy a decent pair of wireless headphones. For radio around the house we use a BOOM 3 Bluetooth job that is much cheaper than the Marshall and it’s portable.

I've had a Bose Sounddock for a long time and used a bluetooth adapter since iPhones moved to the lightning connector (yes it's that old) and so it was about time I upgraded. I needed something that sounds good but also can fill a decent sized room if needed, and if it looked nice then it's a bonus. The Marshall not only had classic looks but has an impressive sound. It will easily fill most lounge's unless you live in a mansion, and has very good equalizer settings within the phone app. What's nice is there's volume and tone controls on the unit itself which plays into the retro looks somewhat and also feeds into the look of the guitar amp background of Marshall. You can control the sound quickly from these controls (just bass and treble) or with more detail using the app which has a more usual equalizer setting.Bluetooth connection was quick and easy. The sound does distort slightly is really pushed to maximum volume, however the volume is then pretty loud and not really somewhere you'd want to go. To be honest if you needed to go that loud you'd probably be wanting to look for a proper full stereo system or at least getting a pair of these to use in combination.Overall, really pleased with the Stanmore II. Looks great (especially if you like the Marshall guitar amp look) and has more than enough quality sound/volume for most rooms in the average house and even shouldn't be a problem outdoors for bbq's etc.

I’ve got a few different Bluetooth speakers, and others which are wired but this one is top in terms of both volume and the vibrancy of the music. Price-wise it’s a little more expensive than some of them but I really do think it’s worth it. It has a deep, rich character to the sound which brings the music to life. I’ve noticed that even on tracks that I’m very familiar with I can hear more detail than before, and the sound is clear and distortion-free at all volume levels, even the highest. The room-filling sound is excellent and the only limitation for me has been that it is a single unit, and I’d love the chance to link it with another one for a more spatial sound.I have the black version so it has the great retro looks of a traditional Marshall speaker which I like, and excellent build quality too. I’ve mostly used it with MP3 tracks though my smartphone, the majority of which are high bitrate for better quality sound. The app is only for the new range of Marshall speakers including this one, and whilst I found it useful when first using the speaker for upgrading the installed software I haven’t felt the need to use it since. A quick tip is to let the software update fully before you start using the speaker for listening – it takes a while but don’t be tempted to speed through the process or you’ll notice breaks in the music playback. Patience is a virtue, and this speaker is worth the wait.

I wanted something to improve the sound of my already fabulous Roberts digital radio, which conveniently has a line out. This does the trick beautifully, and is so easy to set up for a wrinklie like me - rather than prat about pairing things with bluebook, facetooth, or whatever its called*, I plugged in the speaker, ran the cable from the radio to the speaker switched it on and adjusted the treble and bass controls. Within a few moments of opening the box I was in business. As good as it gets from the point of view of setting up.The sound is first rate - it reminds me of a radiogramme made in the 30s but without the hiss and hum. Many reviewers seem to be rock fans so I wondered if the sound would perhaps be a bit too strong in the bass to work well with orchestral music but it is fine - just switch the treble up.I can also run podcasts direct from my kindle to the speaker via the cable, again getting a faultless sound. A note of caution - Roberts radios can be quite temperamental and its probably a good idea to switch the radio off before removing the cable.I'm surprised that the speaker does not have a carry handle, as it is reasonably portable.*I know really - this was a joke, or an attempt at one.

Marshall are a well known name in the production of speakers and amplifiers so I was pleased to get this for review.Firstly it looks good with a very retro design. You simply plug it in and it's good to go. Initially my one downloaded an update but this took less than a minute. You also download the Marshall Voice app which assists with connection.I paired my iPad with it easily and also my Android phone. Spotify linked straightaway too. It's got Alexa pre installed and this is a nice addition. We already have an Echo in one room so put this speaker in the living room where she apparently hears everything and interjects now and then having "heard" a question. She actually hasn't heard any questions but it's quite good fun to hear her answer what she thinks she did hear!Sound quality as would be expected from this brand is amazing and there are various ways of adjusting and equalising on the device. All in all this is a lovely speaker and we anticipate many years of use.

This is an absolutely fantastic Bluetooth speaker. The build quality is really exceptional; everything about it screams quality and robustness, from the Marshall logo on the grille to the red lights on the dials and the on-off rocker switch that recalls a guitar amp. It's neither small nor light, but that's what helps it deliver rich, clear, rounded sound. It was really easy to set up and pair with my phone, and now I can play music stored on my phone, radio (via the BBC Sounds app), mixes from Mixcloud or Soundcloud – all sorts. I love being able to tweak the treble and bass and often do so when listening to speech radio, which requires less bass. It's a shame there's no internal battery so it has to be plugged in to a power socket all the time; it would be great to be able to move it into the garden for a barbecue, say. But that's a very minor quibble. I love this speaker and thoroughly recommend it.

DNA is a unique thing: Cher, Johnny Cash, Madonna, Ray Charles, David Bowie, Joe Cocker, Freddie Mercury, Bjork, Michael Jackson ... when you hear any of them sing you know who it is that's singing, and that is exactly the same for the Marshall Stanmore II Voice: The sound from the Stanmore II is full with clarity, punch, and fizz. The rich, enveloping notes that emanate from Marshall amps (I own a Marshall Valvestate 2000 AVT) and speakers is part of their DNA, and that is what you get when you buy Marshall: Uniqueness - it is there, you just have to listen.Oh yeah, it also comes with an app that replicates the functions of those controls built-in to the Stamore II plus a host of other functions, such as EQ settings for those that like to fine-tune their sound. Follow the instructions for connecting to WiFi and youll have the Stanmore II Voice up and running in no time.

This speaker can be bluetooth connected by downloading it’s app via the Marshall headphones web page.I haven’t done this, I use it via my iPod through an auxiliary jack. It can also be connected to a record player etc via RCA.I really like this speaker the sound quality is very good for both music and speech. Also it looks great! It has a bass reflex which really puts the bass to the fore so I turn the bass level down to get the sound I want.Rock music sounds very good as does ’30’s blues and ’40’s swing and Spoken word. The speaker itself is very well made, wood construction with a vynl cover & a brushed finished brass control panel on the top of the speaker with brass trim across the front &the iconic Marshall logo across the front.Inside is a woofer 1 x 50 watt class d amplifier & 2 x 15 Watt class D tweeters.Has a bass reflex & a max SPL:101dB@1m

Excellent speaker. Need power cable though. Bass are great ! Treble and medium are excellent. If you are a meloman you will love the speaker. I bought two of these to have the stereo mode and it is even better.Cons : The Marshall App is a bit on the edge... not working very well and cannot fond the speaker straight. You have to delete and reinstall the app a few times before you finally found the speaker and can couple them... Even when it is done you still have your app not capable to connect to the speaker after few seconds. You have to close the app and re start it to have access to the equaliser/volume setting for example...

I literally don't even know where to begin. The sound quality is just amazing. It's got such a crisp sound and I love that you can tweak the treble and bass. It's so super powerful too. Yet to play it at max volume. But it's doesn't lose sound quality the louder it gets. I'm amazed by what you get for a small(ish) bluetooth speaker. Connects to your phone or other device quickly too. And let's not forget about the fact that it looks beautiful. Adore how it just brought the whole look I was going for in the dining room together.

This is the best speaker ever. Absolutely fantastic sound output, treble and bass which can be adjusted. Sound quality is super. I play music and use as a home cinema and it is awesome. I was taken back on how clear the sound is. It’s also very loud. Looks premium with brass finish surrounded by gorgeous grills and a sleek leather finish. It is really easy to set up via Bluetooth phone, tablet or TV, also works with AUX. Would absolutely recommend this, I was beyond impressed and really pleased.

Build quality is solid & superb. Sound quality is excellent, FLAC files are exquisite. A little distortion detected with bass up full, but easily adjustable by voice, hand or app. Alexa wifi connection wasnt the easiest, but once done, it works well. Dual mics ensure voices are heard easily. You'll need:Alexa app for account & skills.Marshall app to connect & set up.Its a Quality box of tricks..Small in size. Huge in capability. Massive in sound5* for build & sound.4* for connectivity
