Which reciprocating saw to buy was really a no brainer for me as I already have three 3AH Makita batteries for other tools. This is my first reciprocating saw I'm no expert on them, so bear that in mind. What you get is the saw body, that's it, nothing else, no box, paperwork or blades. The saw is a bit larger and heavier than I expected, but I suppose that is just the nature of the beast. First job was to dismantle and re-purpose an old pallet for use as shelving for the shed. The saw coped way better than I expected (though still hard going) with cutting along the grain through the separating blocks and nails, quicker and much much easier than using a hand saw. / hack saw, I was well pleased, and used this saw exclusively for the whole project. Next up was chopping a stack of small branches for firewood, and old floorboards into lengths for kindling, tasks which getting the chainsaw out for is a bit of overkill really, and using a chainsaw on wood which may contain hidden nails is always a bit fraught. The saw coped admirably, and proved just the thing for the job, slicing through small wet branches and floorboards with ease. The only question is, why didn't I buy one of these years ago? .... it's brilliant and I'll be using it a lot. It does drain batteries pretty quickly, not a big problem currently for me, but if I was buying batteries specifically for this, I'd go for the highest capacity I could find / afford.

Usual Makita high standard, quite heavy, but these tools generally are, as they are made to work hard for long periods. Toolless blade change is a great help as is toolless shoe adjustment, good strong twin LED's with afterglow. No battery fuel gauge though. This unit is very high demand, so if you are running it constantly I would advise having at least 3x 4amp batteries or 2x 5amp otherwise it will drain them faster than you can charge them. That aside, I am very happy with mine, rafter hook is handy. Blades only mount forwards or backwards, they do not go sideways like some of the deWalt units

This tool is simply amazing. I use it for tasks like pulling out old windows and doors in my house, cutting nails and screws in hard-to-reach places and cutting boards and plates that just need a rough cut to get things done. Effective and very durable. It eats a 3.0amp battery fairly quickly, but this tool is not for long cuts and precision work. It gets the job done, and does it very very well. Extremely pleased. This has the quick release of saw blades, no tools. The smaller cheaper version has tool-release. Dont be cheap and buy the smaller model, buy this one. :-)

I know this tool was sold as ‘body only’ and at a very good price, but I did at least expect a manual. The tool was delivered loose rolled in some poppy wrap in an Amazon box and that was it. I was able to download the manual from the Makita website and was pleased I did. Although I have owned this type of saw before the manual covered so much with regard to the various adjustments and maintenance of the tool. And the safety section had important information with regard to the Makita batteries I already own. I'm happy though but only because of the price.

This saw is fantastic. It's spent today cutting down bushes. A 3.0Ah battery lasts quite a long time with start stop branch cutting. I also found the saw surprisingly quiet. It's not silent but is certainly quieter than the battery jigsaws I've used. It's not a replacement for the chainsaw but certainly tackles shrubbery well. Next on it's todo list is cutting joists, but I don't see it having any issues.

I bought this and a bosch one. Kept the bosh one although this was clearly the better saw, it was so heavy it needed to be operated with 2 hands - wheras the cheaper, more plasticy, probably-worse Bosch one was so light I could hold branches/trees in one hand and operate the saw with the other. Nice saw apart from weight.

This machine is perfect bought it for cutting up trees for me log burner . But since then I have tuck it to work and used it for many tasks . How did I live with out it . It vibrates a lot though while using it . But has loads of power . 3ah last a rather long time cutting logs too

Excellent build quality as expected. Quick change blade - make sure the saw will not operate. Used for pruning, small logs, ripping out built in units for work etc. Uses battery power therefore make sure you have a charged spare. I don't like the "cheap" blades!

have had this saw for a month now and used it on several jobs and as I hoped, but expected it was a high quality saw. registered it with Makita uk and got my 3 year manufacturers warranty. so convenient no having to find a power source.

So many uses. Hook is handy when working off steps/ladder or swinging in a tree. There is quite a lot of vibration though and after a couple of hours continued use I did start to develop

I haven't long had it and have only used it a few times, but I love it. It has great features, feels really solid and robust and is great to use. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

Very good saw. Blades lock system works well. Use 3AH or more powerfull bateries, the lifetime of 1.5AH batteries is very short.

Top quality product. Packaging by amazon.co.uk was poor and without a Users Manual for the product purchased.
