I purchased my GSA1100 in the happy days when Amazon was offering these for under £75. It was bargain at that. It even came with a case. The first saw had an issue with the blade chuck but Amazon were on the case and replaced it promptly - thanks. The saw is Chinese made and (apart from the chuck issue) seems well made. It lacks pendulum saw action, so it's more a simpler robust tool. The trigger feel is really good to control the blade speed. I appreciated the hook when working on a raised platform. I bought the saw to cut out some seriously hard 100kg oak beams that were around 220 x 300mm. The saw did this perfectly using carbide blades. It didn't get noticeably warm, let alone over-heat and gave every impression of not being strained. So for that matter did the excellent carbide blades which have doubled in price now! Maybe the reciprocating version would have been a minute or two quicker cutting the oak but it is much more expensive tool. For under £75 this was an absolute bargain, hence five-stars. Now it is almost twice the price maybe not, but it's a justifiable four-stars.One final point about the chuck: The chuck gripped firmly on the first saw I had to return but failed to unlock the first time I used it. The chuck on the second saw was a bit looser in terms of grip but worked. There seems to be a design or tolerance issue. If the blade gets sufficiently hot, the paint on the blade seems to stick the chuck closed. A light tap on the release bar with mallet (note light and mallet) should free it, whereas all sorts of twisting won't. A drop of silicon oil on the blade insert might also help.

This is what it claims to be: a powerful, heavy duty professional saw. I usually opt for the pro versions of power tools, as sooner or later there's a job that needs the extra power. It's certainly not short on power, but at 4kg it has to be admitted that this Sabre saw is quite a handful.Note: I have updated this review after more prolonged use. Previously I said that the the pistol grip of the pro version is uncomfortable. It's worse than uncomfortable - I now have a severe blister on the thumb! The 1st and 2nd fingers are needed to control the speed, which requires a light touch on the trigger. This means that they can do little to help take the weigh of this very heavy tool, leaving the thumb to take most of the load. This is not good ergonomic design. This pistol grip design won't be a problem on bench work where the saw can be held with both hands. But for anything requiring one handed use, for example reaching up into trees to cut back branches, it's seriously difficult and uncomfortable to hold. That said, it's hugely powerful and does the job brilliantly, and less hassle (and less dangerous!) than a chain saw. But for garden work I think that the 700 or 900 watt Sabre saw would probably be more than enough, and lighter to hold.

Not a tradesperson, just a keen DIY'er who loves Bosch tools. Was torn between this and the 18 volt cordless saw - but went for this one as I had some hefty wood to cut, and although I've got a couple of 6 amp batteries, didn't want to keep having to charge. This coupled with Bosch blades was unstoppable, and made light work of the job.If I'm being critical, there are a couple of things I wasn't keen on. It warms up very quickly when holding, so good gloves are essential, and the blade change system isn't the best - it can be awkward to change blades after a lot of cutting, and I found some PTFE or at least WD40 kept the system from jamming. The mechanism on the cordless saw looks better,or at least more user friendly. But if you remember to use a light lubricant coating, this saw works fine. But at this price I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a good quality saw. There's very little vibration in use and it's Bosch, so should last.

Great product. You pay a little more for the professional Bosch but feels better than the rest. I am a DIY and garden user. Common saw interface means you can buy cheap blades as I tend to hit nails or stones when digging out roots but the saw itself carries on. Took a little time to get used to the safety lock out switch and is makes it safe to carry one handed whilst connected to mains but still can be used one handed when in possition to cut if you are strong enough and careful. By the way you also get an excellent Bosch Carry case not mentioned anywhere rather than a bag I had with my previous Skil sabre saw (a Bosch Brand). It started smoking and eventually cut out but it was 14 years old.Though about fixing it but the spares would have been more than the cost of this without warranty. It was not just the brushes. Spare blades I had obviously fit as common interface.

This has some power, to the extent where my other half was a bit scared to use it!I have a Dewalt 18 volt battery one, which is very good, but my job was to really get into some overgrown bamboo (I'm talking thick as my wrist), and needed something that wouldn't requite continual battery charging as I wanted to get the job done in a day. It's heavier and larger than the battery Dewalt, but noticeably more powerful, I appreciate rechargable battery has its convenience, but it has made me rethink a few things in regards to power tools.I got this from Amazon as it was the cheapest quality saw available at the time (Dewalt, Blue Bosch, Matikta or Metabo),and it came with a carry case which is always an important factor for me.I did buy the Faithful banded saws from Amazon also, they were more than suitable for the job, bamboo is hard and will dull blades quickly.

The blade is very thin, but the actual sawing technique is very good. I find it too heavy to handle, so I don't use it as such, but I watched someone else use it, and it made light work of sawing a piece of wood smooth and straight, not wonky had a manual saw was used. Overall, it's a good brand and good quality, and make sawing a piece of wood done in half the time with better results. The only negative is the weight of the handle which comprises the motor. It's not lightweight enough for me to use, which is disappointing because I originally bought it for myself to use, but instead I have to get someone else to use it to do things for me.

Since purchase I have sawn down several 4" to 6" (100mm -150mm in new money) trees with little effort, one Pergola with 4 No 4x4" supports, several wild bushes with up to 2" numerous trunks to cut through and a number of heavy duty angle irons holding up a modern ensuite basin. This is an absolute dream of a tool and I cant imagine the difficult effort that would have been required without it. I bought several blades as well but the 1st wood and 1st steel remain as good as new. 10/10 for everything about the tool. Bit heavy and you have to hang onto it but boy does it cut the mustard! Buy quality and mostly you cant go wrong. John H

I expect this tool to last many years compared to the budget versions you see. The always on light is good as you know you left it switched on to avoid someone removing your fingers during a blade change. The you need to push an unlock button to operate the switch but this is on both sides so fine for lefties as well.Bosch seem to have a blade for everything, from cast iron to foam and everything inbetween.Yes you pay a premium, you get a 3 year warranty but the only time I ever needed to use this (for Bosch multi cutter I had hammered) the tool was collected Monday and returned Wednesday. Says it all really.

Ok so i bought this for cutting hedgerow back, and it did a good job, then one day i needed to cut through metal structural mesh for concrete foundations and all i had was this... so i put the metal blade in (included) and basically it cut through it like butter, i was speechless, angle grinders, petrol disk cutters couldn't do it better, in fact this is WAY quieter at doing it, and it doesn't chuck sparks everywhere which is a huge bonus in confined spaces such as attics!! It impressed everyone on site. Highly recommend this. Normally buy Makita, don't be a brand addict, this tool is exceptional.

Bought this to replace Makita Recip saw that fell to bits after many years of hard work, once I sorted how to load the blade I have found no negative points about this saw. It is a typically solid Bosch Professional power tool, from day one when it was used to cut down a hundred year old house roof that had seen better days, to being used on the new roof, as well as for cutting metal, taking up floors, as well as on other jobs. A good all round performer. To conclude have been very impressed with it and have no problems in reccomending it.

This Bosch Saw has done the job I needed it initially to do. Which was to level off 4X4 inch fence posts. Variable speed control is useful when starting the cut. Power was adequate to perform swift cuts. Blade change is easy enough when you get use to it. While cutting remember to press guard onto work, if possible, as this improves ease of use and accuracy.I get the impression it is built to last but I will edit this review if it does not. I tend to find all my Bosch electric tools last well.Would buy again

A solidly built bit of kit from Bosch. Makes short work of cutting timber etc when paired with the right, high quality blade for the job.The quick release mechanism can get clogged up but with a squirt of lube and good maintenance, problem solved.Because it is so well built, it is quite a heavy tool to use but the useful hanging hook allows you to take a well deserved break. This is a tool everyone should own.Comes in a really tough, blow moulded storage box with loads of room for blades and bits and bobs.

11.4.2017

As expected from a Bosch Pro tool. Works well, loads of power and should last for ages. Two criticisms though:I primarily bought this to split pallets by cutting through the nails. The unit is BIG so it's not ideal for getting inside small spaces. The metal blade you get with it is verrrrry bendy and flexible - I broke it after two pallets. Poor technique probably but I had to splash out more cash on replacements blades. The replacements are much stiffer and I expect will last a lot longer.

Out of the box worked well as first time user of reciprocating saw, I have nothing to compare it too, thought there was alot of vibration while using it and is slightly heavy for long term use, it could have done with supporting handle at the front, inserting the saw blade found this a bit fiddly, managed to cut a fair bit in half hr, used two Saxton blades they dulled quickly didn't use the bosch blades yet they seem thicker and more solid compared to the Saxton blades over all good saw.

24.1.2021

This is a heavy machine. I have had a problem with the blade jamming, but after taking off the clip connector at the blade end I managed to free it. It wasn't a third party blade it was a Bosch blade. However, I have done a good few hours of working with it, and it did the jobs perfectly. Extremely efficient at cutting anything I threw at it. The jammed blade has made me a bit wary, but that might or might not have been my fault. We will see as time goes on to see if it happens again.
