Lego kick off their 2009 releases with a series of kits from The Clone Wars which includes for the first time, Count Dooku's Solar Sailer.Despite the fact that the model is half scale it is actually a good representation of Dooku's Punworcca 116-class Interstellar Sloop. Built using a similar design to 2003's 4478 Geonosian Fighter, this kit has a linear construction as opposed to the traditional vertical build. The aft section opens on each side and there is room for Count Dooku's Flitknot Speeder bike inside the aft bay. The front cockpit bubble hinges open and there is a small removable control column in which the FA-4 Pilot Droid can stand. Landing legs on both sides hinge out about 30 degrees and lower down into position. The upper and lower hull points can also lift up and hinge out to 80 degrees. Unfortunately, the cannot open out like the version in the film to deploy the sail so the ship looks better in the compact mode. There is also a neat feature on each side for the missiles. You push the lever towards the front and a mechanism fires a purple tipped flick missile from the upper and lower port simultaneously. With two on each side you can rapid 4 all four at once. The Flitknot Speeder bike has been updated from 2003's 7103 Jedi Duel with the correct coloring and better details. It has poistionable control bar and a clip ion the side for Dooku's lightsabre. The Solar Sailer is 28 cm long, 10 cm wide and ranges from 11 - 42 cm high depending on how far you open the sail arms. The Flitknot speeder is 11.5 cm long, 3 cm wide and 3.5 cm highYou get four figures with the kit, 2 new and 2 reissues. The reissues are a welcome pair of IG-100 Magnaguard droids. Each one comes with a sand coloured cloak and a purple tipped electrostaff. Collectors who purchased 2008's 7673 Magnaguard Starfighter will now have a full set of 4 to guard General Grievous. There is also an FA-4 Pilot Droid. This is a little disappointing as it is a standard B1 Battle droid body in white but has an inverted leg of a Lego skeleton figure for a head. It would've been nice if Lego could have at least done a head for the droid or done some markings on the limb so it didn't look like a leg. Finally, and for the first time in the Clone Wars style we get an excellent Count Dooku figure. The facial expression is great, as is the severe grey hairstyle. Dooku comes equipped with a brown cloak, brown hood and his angled hilt red lightsabre. The kit comprises 339 pieces (not including figures, missiles and weapons), has 15 decals to apply and takes about 30 minutes to build.I can see modellers adapting this one to deploy the sails, which wouldn't be to difficult but that aside it's still a good kit. Released as a Lego and Toys 'R' us exclusive it's available now for £40 at a store near you.A great kit and definitely one for those wishing to expand their Separatist Forces.
