This was a set which I was on the fence about for a long time. Sure it looks kinda cool, but I prefer the ships and other vehicles for my Star Wars Lego collection, and always found other things more worthy of my £50ish. But I picked this up in the "reduced to clear" section after Christmas, and I have to say I was extremely impressed. Now Porgs seem to be a bit divisive - they're this generation's Ewoks, so the fans either love them or loathe them. If you hate Porgs anyway then you're really going to get nothing out of this set. If, on the other hand, you love the little critters, then read on!So first of all the build is broken down into 6 bags. As is the tendency with Star Wars Lego, these bags are sorted sequentially, so you build bag 1 in its entirety before moving onto bag 2 etc. The set totals in at just over 800 pieces, so it's a nice average-large build, and the build clocked in at just under 3 hours for myself as an adult, if only on a technicality. The first thing I have to say about the set is that it's frankly a work of design genius by the boffins at Lego. I've built 16 Star Wars Lego sets prior to this one, and you can always get a rough idea of how it's going to come together from the outset, but to make a large scale model of an organic, feathered creature out of bricks really is impressive. The first bag of the build is very much along the Technic Lego lines, so expect lots of pegs slotting into holes. This forms the core of the Porg, and the following bags are more traditional Lego builds where the chest, wings, back and head all come together to attach to that central frame. One thing which will delight a lot of fans is that there are no stickers, aside from the large one which goes on the Ultimate Collectors Series-stlye information plaque. Instead, all of the intricate detailing on the Porg comes from custom feathery pieces, or small one-square pieces. Lots, and lots, and lots of small pieces! This is the only reason I'm taking a star off and not giving it a full 5 - although the box does suggest an age range of 9-14, I think builders on the younger end of that range might find it a bit fiddly. As Lego tend to do, they kindly provide a few spares of some of the most commonly used and easily lost pieces, but even I found myself sighing heavily in places, so youngsters with a little less patience may get frustrated.Once it's built, it's a fantastic looking figure. Obviously this isn't going to be as interactive as something like an X-Wing Fighter, but the ability to make the Porg open its mouth and flap its wings slightly at the press of its tail is a nice touch. Definitely more of a display piece than a play item. The mini-Porg which comes with the plaque is also a fun little addition. Admittedly I would have preferred it a bit more like a mini figure, like the BB-8, but instead it's made up of a custom headpiece and then a body made up of various standard Lego bricks. Still, he'll be most welcome in my Lego Millennium Falcon to keep Chewie company! As for the price, like all licensed Lego sets it's a bit expensive at £60. £45-50 is definitely reasonable for the enjoyment of the set, and if you're lucky enough to get it under £40 (I snatched mine for £38) then it's completely worth it.

However you feel about The Last Jedi as a movie in general, it did bring us porgs, which most people seem to agree are quite sweet little creatures. LEGO has immortalised the porg in a good-sized model (20cm tall) which if you love them just that much, could make a fitting ornament in your home. You get a reasonably hefty build from the model, taking a good couple of hours. Much of the construction isn't very exciting as the port features a pretty solid body. Things get a little more interesting when finishing off the details on the exterior, and putting together the mechanism for flapping the wings and opening the mouth is cool, but overall it's a bit of a plod.Once completed, pushing on the creature's tail will cause the mouth to open and the wings to flap. This works really well and is a nice little feature to show off. You also get a 'fact plate' to sit alongside the completed model, complete with a tiny porg mini-build. I'm not sure how useful the mini-porg is to the overall set, but it matches the scale of porgs in other LEGO Star Wars sets so makes some sense in showing the scale up to its much larger brethren. The finished porg is nicely detailed from every angle and looks pretty good on display, but this will very much depend on how much you love porgs. It isn't really a toy and shouldn't be bought as such, it isn't sturdy enough to survive play intact. If you absolutely must own a porg within your Star Wars collection though, the price isn't too bad and it looks good, so definitely worth a look.

I love Star Wars and I love Lego and I have growing collection of Lego Star Wars figures and models.I really wasn't too sure about this figure when I first saw it, but now that I have built it, I absolutely love it!Standing about eight inches tall and constructed from 811 pieces, this figure is gorgeous and intricate. As with most modern Lego kits, there are quite a few unique custom pieces that are only used in this kit, but I would say there are less in this kit than I have seen in some others. It took about two hours to construct and I would say the difficulty level is low to moderate. There's nothing really tricky, but as with a lot of Lego instructions, the colour representations of the bricks in the booklet weren't always that accurate, and I found myself using same shape but wrong colour (grey instead of black for example) bricks and then having to back track and take them apart. Other than that it's a really great model! The mini Porg on the information plaque is a lovely touch and the opening mouth and flapping wings are just the icing on the cake!Highly recommended. Even if you don't fall in love with it at first sight, you will once you have built it!Here's a time-lapse video of me putting him (or her) together!

The name may sound odd and you may mistake the name from the infamous Borg, however, this little creature, which is cross between Pingu, a Puffin and a Hamster. The Lego model itself is very detailed and great for Lego Star Wars enthusiasts. It states 9 years, but even a competent seven year old can make this with a bit of patient and perseverance. My son managed to finish this over two days and the end result is an impressive Lego build which looks really cool. It is upto the usual Lego high standards. It is colourful and even if you drop it, you'll find you maybe lose the wing but it is easily put together again.Considering my son loves Star Wars and Lego for that fact. The Porg looks good on his desk.Actually the Porg is a great gift for any child, be it boy or girl.Once you've completed this you can press the tail till your hearts content and watch Porg open its mouth and make that Porgee sound. Yes, Porgs do make this Porgee sound.I really like this Lego Star Wars Porg. Its just unusual and oddly it looks great on my sons desk, now if I move it, the desk looks oddly out of place without it.The Last Jedi Porg is a must for any Star Wars Lego fan, great addition to the family.

My boys have been Lego fans and have been for years. I am also a fan because it gets them off their electronic devices and makes them do something creative. It requires some problem solving skills and it is constructive. The set is typical Lego quality. I would expect nothing less. It has over 800 pieces. It took my boys a good few hours about to make it and the concentration required kept them quiet. Another reason I like Lego! It has working parts. It has a nice display stand. It is about 20 cm in height and looks quite impressive. Must say though my boys were far more enthusiastic when building the Lego Star War vessels or vehicles or ships.I think they also like the result of building the ships far more and playing with them for hours on end. I am not sure I see them playing with this model much and it is probably not designed for that purpose. This is probably more one for display. It is also probably for the avid Star Wars fan who wants models of everything. As I said earlier this is typical Lego quality. you know what you are getting when you buy Lego and this set is no different. Lego is quality and this is a good model.

This is a good set made with the quality and design we have all come to expect of Lego. At around £50 it is within most people’s budget and clearly targeted at children (9+ years), rather than the larger more expensive sets which let’s be honest; only adults or spoilt kids will ever get access to.Challenging to construct due to the number of small similar looking pieces it might test the patience of some; but isn’t that what Lego is about? It also means you get your money’s worth (£ x hrs of entertainment) and will keep the kids busy for hours.Whilst I can’t see this being the most popular set it does offer an alternative to ships etc, and maybe one for those of us who are partial to ‘cute’.Apparently the PORGs were only in the film because there were birds all over the island and it was easier to CGI something over the top than it was to delete them entirely from filming! Not sure how true this is, but sounds plausible.

This 'Sea Dwelling Bird' is a Star Wars character, from The Last Jedi, and this model is particularly well detailed with extra features including moving wings and an opening mouth. I think the overall detailing is particularly good and I like the authentic colour scheme. At 811 total puzzle pieces it's far from a simple construction but full instructions are included. Younger children will need quite a lot of help and supervision. The figure has a display stand, approx. 2 in/6 cm tall, with a presentation plaque and although this isn't a large figure, model stands approx. 7 in/19 cm tall, it certainly makes an impact. Recommended for children over 9 years and certainly not for much younger children due to all of the small pieces. No batteries required. My grandson loves this figure but it's not really something to play with and is much more a display model than a toy.

This is probably a very unusual set for Lego to make and an unusual one to buy. Last Jedi was not a great film and the Porg birds were only in it for a few minutes and didn't exactly add to the film other than to be mildly annoying. So I can see why people would not want a Lego rendition. But you would be wrong! It is such a cute model - it looks like the sort of thing you see at a Lego Park. Bricky and blocky but somehow curved and beautiful. It stands about 8" high and it is just SO cute. In my family there was a scramble between wife and 9 year old to build it.Construction wise it is very good with a Technic core that moves the mouth and wings overlaid with lots of curved detailing. If you like the Lego Birds set then I think you will like this.

Nothing like a good movie tie in - Porgs, you either love them or hate them - and in this case, Lego have done a fantastic job.You get an interesting build mixing lego and technic internal elements with articulation - which is unusual in the SW range. Also unusual is the inclusion of the stats card - usually something only given on the UCS series. I think this is something of a nod towards the Porg and their reception - by making the model in the first place and then adding in the UCS type card it’s almost like “we know lots of you hate them, but we love them so lets go all out”It’s a very good model - almost no play value once built aside from ‘eating’ things but still entertaining and looksgood on the shelf.

I haven't seen The Last Jedi but I know some fans were critical of it. I'm guessing the Porg - a cross between a Puffin and an Ewok - is one reason to criticise it, but this Lego set does offer an intricate build with a technic mechanism inside it.Pressing down on the Porg's tale slightly raises its wings and opens its mouth. This is not a UCS set but does include a display card and a Porg minifigure. The level of design and the complexity of the build does put this on the same level as UCS sets. Collectors may not appreciate the appearance of this figure but will appreciate the design and the build. This is definitely a display piece although it may not sit well with the other pieces on a collector's shelf.

The Porg kit is an intricate and effective model that can be built in 1-2 hours from the instruction booklet. the inner structure is built first and is pretty straightforward. The majority of the build time is taken up putting together the parts that make up the back, sides, front, wings and finally the head of the model. Many of the parts used on these areas are very small and this means that it is occasionally difficult to be certain of exactly what goes where. On a couple of occasions I thought I was missing a part, only to realise I'd made a small mistake in an earlier step.Overall I'm impressed and would recommend it as a great gift for a Star Wars lego fan.

Following on from the BB8 Lego model that became available a year or so again we now have a Porg model! The pack comes with instructions and 6 labeled bags of Lego and took several hours spread over a few evenings to build.Great fun for any Lego and Star Wars fan - warning it’s not really suitable for younger children as the finished model is more to be admired than played with. I’d say a minimum age of 8/9 would enjoy building this with help from an older child or adult....

What's not to like? It's Lego and it's a Porg. Bought for son who found the construction challenging enough not to get bored or finish it too quickly. Moving parts are charming and the whole things looks pretty decent given it's an 'organic' build rather than a ship, droid, vehicle or building. Recommended

The product was excellent. Delivery was a disgrace. Package left on door step in the rain. Box soaking. Luckily product fine. Tracking said it was handed to resident ... It wasn't. Did a "chat" on my account last night and heard nothing today regarding this.

I dropped a star from this set because of the construction of the mouth, my kids one seems to keep falling off (yes I know its a "model" not a "toy" but I would have hoped for a more robust build from Lego)
