I love Lego, always have and (hopefully) always will, but not all Lego sets are equal. Some offer great builds, some offer great fun and great value, but trying to get all that in one little set can be a hard nut to crack; especially when a set is trying to represent something recognisable ('iconic'?) from the real world.Let me get it out of the way with, Lego's 'Audi Sport Quattro S1' is, by some distance, the best little 'Speed Champions' set that I've seen, built and thoroughly enjoyed. Is it perfect? No, but it's very (VERY) close, with a solid built, some great surfacing and shape techniques and, well, the final product is spot on (for fun today, and memories of Group B Rallying). When opening up the box,I was a little puzzled as to what size, and how, it would all come together, but as always the detailed, full colour, instructions laid out the build, corresponding with the (two) bags (there's actually more, with smaller parts sub-divided).The build starts from 'the bottom up', with the main chassis, building upwards to define just the right shapes and details for the 'S1' Audi Sport.Highlights are the 'spot lights', 'barge boards' and 'bulging wheel arches', along with the colour printed bonnet and 'C pillar' details. The only low points (and it's a personal thing), are the 'non-opening doors' (I've not seen working doors on any of the Speed Champion sets yet) and the (many) small stickers, that are needed. The build fits the (included) printed 'Audi Sport' minifigure, who has both helmet and hair (almost 'helmet hair'), but it's the cockpit details, with dash, gearshift and handbrake (as well just enough space for a pair of minifigures) that tops it off.The multi-part wheels also allow you to chose between 'turbo' style or 'five-spoke' finish'.Given the size (these always feel larger, but more substantial than a non- 'Speed Champions' type vehicle build), and details (they even remembered to get the exhaust tip right!) it's actually pretty god value for money.I might just've been nice to (going back to the old days), have the option for 'non-S1' early Quattro look, without the front splitter and large rear wing.

This set is a really nice introduction to the new 8 stud wide Speed Champion series by LEGO.The legendary Audi Quattro makes a great set to start on, it's a fairly slab sided design in real life which helps make it translate over to LEGO very well.Packed in a much more substantial box size than previous Speed Champions sets, this is the first hint at the increased piece count of these new larger models. The increased size of the new 8 stud wide construction models allows for more detail as well as a bigger cockpit interior. The new chassis piece now allowing 2 minifigures to sit side by side inside the cockpit for the first time, something the 6 stud wide sets didn't have space for.The Audi model itself is alot bulker than the old 6 stud models and has a fairly substantial increase in size and part count.Like some previous sets, 2 different designs of wheel trim are included. The downside of this of course is the increase in RRP from £12.99 to £17.99.This is not an insignificant increase, however for the extra detail and part count and the pure increase in size this is a reasonable price difference, however it does move the price more to a gift price (£20) rather than a saved pocket money (£10) amount.Another downside is the reliance on stickers for the Speed Champions range. I choose not to use stickers on my builds so I miss out on some detail, I just have the pre printed bonnet and c pillars on my car as shown in the pictures. Understandably printing all the parts would be prohibitively expensive in this case.Pros:Increase in size and detail.New chassis piece allowing 2 minifigs seating side by side.Accurate depiction of the source vehicle.Cons:Large percentage price increase.Still heavily reliant on stickers.Maybe to wide to go in a city scene on LEGO base plates.Overall this is a great addition to the Speed Champions line and it's great to see some older, legendary cars being made, not just modern ones. This was a 1st day purchase for me at full retail price and I'm happy with that. Please note the yellow and tan parts under the car are not part of the set and just there for effect.

When I saw that they were making the 1980s Audi Quattro I was super excited to purchase it. It’s a legendary car in the rally world one of the first to effectively use 4WD and dominate the sport making an estimated 500hp+ which even by today’s standards in a 2.1L in-line 5 is still amazing. Now then after some history let’s get to the build I was happy to see some of the body detailing was printed on the bricks but too bad not the majority. But the completed set definitely looks just like the boxy wide fender real thing. Another great Lego iteration of a classic car. Only issue is now the Speed Champions cars are wider why not 14.99 anymore and can accommodate two seated minifigure’s (which is a plus especially this set that the racer would have a co-pilot,only one figure in this set though) but if you have been collecting the previous Speed Champions ones this now looks out of place and not as Lego like as before which also were a tribute to the designer to make the car look just right but making it a one minifigure seater as in most Lego sets. Still a great set and fun to build an still recommend it but it will have to find a new spot on the self for it to sit. Happy building!

The increased width and length on the new Speed Champions certainly makes them stand out from their predecessors. Better proportions, increased detail, and enough room for 2 minifigures. This is my first and only of the 8 stud Speed Champions so far and I must say I'm quite pleased. The build is, of course, different. It took me nearly 2 hours to open, sort, build, and carefully apply stickers as I went. Speaking of stickers, there doesn't seem to be a significant increase in the number of stickers to apply here, but still plenty to drive your patience. The completed vehicle is nicely detailed inside and out. The widebody fenders, various vents and intakes, the splitter and spoiler, and the fog light assembly are well done. My only gripes are the 1/2 stud offset of the steering wheel in relation to the driver and the lack of a roll cage, but I don't suppose either of these could easily be fixed. Overall, it's a faithful Lego model the iconic group B rally car that paved the way. I'm hoping to see some Scooby love and it's Mitsubishi rival in the future. That'd be a great 2 pack!

Having recently become addicted to lego (It started with microfighters but now moved on to bigger kits) I took the bait on this when the price dropped to £12.99. At this price it was an absolute bargain. I buy these as an end of day treat when I finish work (healthier than cake). It's a great little kit and was well suited to my end of day 'reward' taking about half an hour to complete. My only criticisms would be that I'm not a fan of the stickers in lego kits. I would prefer if these things were pre-printed. This kit was unusual in that there was a mix of stickers and pre-printed part (i.e the bonnet). My other criticism would be that the way the windscreen/roof attaches is a bit flimsy in that it does not secure at the back of the roof. That's fine when it's a display model but a couple of times when I've picked it up the roof has detached from the rest of the car resulting in the car almost (thanks to quick reactions) dropping on the floor. Other than that. It's Lego and it's awesome !

I should want to say that I have had my independent time of being able to construct my classic LEGO Speed Champions 1985 Audi Sport Quattro S1 racing car on 12th June 2020.Throughout my experience, I used a booklet of detailed instructions of how to build this item in two different parts and it was brilliant to do on my own.The features on this product are peculiar because there are several combinations of applying the headlights onto your car, changing the colour of brown hair to a helmet on your racing driver mini-figure and removing the rims of the tyres on this car.In addition, the accuracy of this car is almost complete except, there is an image on the back of the box which says ''Michelin''and I am not sure how the history of it was first introduced in 1985.Aside from my previous comment, I purchased this product which was at good value and that's why I got it for my collection this week.See attached photographs.

It seems odd for me to say this, but I haven't bought a new Lego set in over a year. I've got hundreds of Star Wars and Creator sets dotted about the house, but I'd fallen a little bit out of love of late. Expensive and quite repetitive, certainly in the Star Wars line. However, this Group B Audi Quattro S1 brought me right back in a heartbeat. It's wonderful. I really enjoyed building it, and the angular lines of Lego lend themselves to a boxy 1980's car such as this. It was relatively modestly priced too. My only grip is a common one with the Speed series, and that's that there are a lot of stickers to apply.I'd implore Lego to add a few more Group B rally cars to their Speed series.I'd love to line my Audi up alongside a MG Metro 6R4, Peugeot 205 T16, Lancia Delta S4 and a Ford RS200. Go on Lego, you know you want to.

With the shift to 8-stud wide construction this year Lego has achieved greater accuracy and realism with the cars they portray, more than ever before. Speed Champions has a great track record of variety with the cars they choose but for me personally, this was an absolute dream come true. It cannot be overstated how much respect was shown in replicating this rally legend. The proportions to the real car are so spot on. The higher price point with these new models, at least based off this one, is more than justified. But I do love this car deeply and there is a clear bias there. Bravo Lego, for the people this model was aimed for, it shows nothing short of the highest respects, here's hoping something else from the Group B era crops up further down the line~

The true personality of the '85 Audi S1 has been captured by this set without question. From the lowered stance of the car to the tailpipe; from the powerful colors and lines down to the stickers, this set is pure brilliance. And the headlights! Just perfect! The new format of 8-studs wide is the future of Speed Champions and it's easy to see why with this set. The extra two studs round out the dimensions in such a way it brings a whole new dynamic to the line. Slightly bigger (25%!), it makes for a greater presence of the vehicle. You can fit two mini-figs inside! Finally, driver and co-pilot is possible!A highly recommended set for a such famous and historic WRC car,and a welcomed introduction to the new and exciting 8-stud format.

I love the Speed Champion Series and look forward to see what car will be released next. Extra 2 bricks width lends itself perfectly to replicate the Audi. I have all the previous cars in the range but I find the new size cars are the best of them all. Was a bit concerned that the price had gone up before I received my order but, I find the price is totally justified now that I have built the AUDI, F8 and the Nismo. I agree with some of the other reviews that other rally cars would make great additions to the series but would think that a mixture of car disciplines in every new release would ensure there will be something for all car tastes.I would also like to see some of the previous releases re-modeled in the new size.

The Quattro S1 is among the first wave of the bigger and wider Lego Speed Champions cars, and easily one of the best of the bunch. The model captures many of the real Quattro rally car's iconic details, from the massive spoiler, six-light arrangement and wide-body aesthetic. I'm really delighted that I can now fit a co-driver in a car of this scale, but it is VERY tight in there, so may take some re-positioning. This set also has lots of stickers, BUT you'll be pleasantly surprised (I know I was) that the hood and two side panels were digitally printed, giving the model a very high quality feel. I'd really recommend this set to young and adult fans alike because it's well-detailed,well-proportioned and very affordable.

I'm so happy to see Lego releasing rally cars in the Speed Champions series. Compared to last year's Ford Fiesta WRC, I really like the larger size of this one, especially how there's enough room to fit a co-driver inside the car. The amount of detail in the bigger model is great, and I love how it looks. But Lego really missed an opportunity here: If any race car set should come with a female driver, it should be this one! This is the car that French rally driver Michèle Mouton raced at Pikes Peak in 1985, where she won the event outright and set the course record. It would have been really cool to have her as a minifig in this set.I'll just have to swap some driver parts from another set to make this one perfect.

Purchased for me as a gift, as a petrolhead and a Lego geek this ticked a number of boxes. Always owned VW Audi group cars, but unfortunately not one of these so it’s nice to have a cut price alternative sat on my study shelf. As Lego goes it’s not a particularly challenging build, but it’s quite enjoyable. No more than a 30-40 minute build depending on your attention span. Given some of the so-so car models Lego have launched recently, this one looks fairly authentic to the original. If you love classic Audi’s or were a fan of the group B rally era then for the sake of £18 then it’s worth a punt, just a shame it doesn’t come with a sound clip from the glorious 5 banger! Get it bought.

Back in high school, Audi Quattros were my favorite cars. This stubby race version was the ultimate rally version back in the day. So out of left field that Lego would chose to make a set of one but one that I happily bought the first day it was available. It's a better car than most of the Lego attempts at real cars, in that many just don't look like the cars that they represent. Kids are not going to get what this car is but Gen X'ers like me love the chance to reconnect with the "it" cars of my youth. Fun to build, nice detailing with the rally stickers, love the lights and the wheel options.

I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the car and found out that it was 25% bigger than older cars of the same theme.I had blast building the chassis and body of the car, basically the first pouch pieces. Like some of the other cars, this car be easily modified, even though it’s not supposed to. You can remove the aero parts and make it stock S1 quite easily. You can even store the rally-lights under the hood so they dont get lost that easily.Overall I have nothing bad to say about this and I am really looking dor what else comes up next!
